Why You Should Get an RPAL (Restricted Firearm License) in 2024
Canadians have different reasons for wanting to own a firearm. Whether it's to hunt for food, to shoot for sport, to protect one's family... "Unlike our American neighbours to the south, we don't have a right to own them. I think we should" My rights come from God and not from government. I may be thrown in jail, by a tyrant government, for asserting my rights but I still have the right none the less. Since the Charter of Rights and Freedoms Preamble states: "Whereas Canada is founded upon principles that recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law." and since they cannot show me a document, signed by God, that grants them authority over me and the rights given to me by God, then they are my equal, not my master.

      @canadianoperator Час назад

      To be frank, rights, at least the way we understand them, don’t actually exist. If a”God” wanted you to have them, you would. And they’d be actual rights and not temporary privileges, because rights can’t be arbitrarily taken away.

    I had my RPAL but dropped it for a few reasons. 1- a handgun is useless in Canada! My brother owned 250 acres but could not fire his pistol on his own land. 2- if you have a PAL and the RCMP want to inspect your storage facilities, they must give you notice, but if you have an RPAL they can inspect anytime without warning. 3- if you use a handgun to defend your home, it is likely you will be punished more than the home invader!

    • @canadianoperator
      @canadianoperator Час назад

      Have to disagree here. Despite the current legislation, handguns and the RPAL are not useless. It only depends on your use case and whether it’s practical for you. The RCMP can’t just show up and search your property. They need either reasonable grounds to believe you are a danger to someone, which would have had to have been reported, or a search warrant. In both cases, they’d need to be able to articulate why they wanted to search. Lastly, if you use any firearm to defend your home you are liable under the law based on interpretation of section 33/34 by a judge. That has nothing to do with whether you have an RPAL or not.

    Even the renewals for PALs are slow. The RCMP site approved my renewal back in February and I still haven't received it , phone support says "It should arrive any day now but hasn't shipped yet" . Last time it was the card printer and the time before it was short staff. Do they have an excuse jar and just pick a new excuse to use every year ?

      SBR, not AR. For us that means any rifle with a barrel shorter than 18.5” - which the vast majority of ARs from the US not specifically made for the Canadian market are. Standard barrel lengths in the US range from 14-16”. Both would be considered restricted here because of their barrel length.

    I came across your channel and am curious. I am curious as to your gun laws up there. Do your gun laws change from province to province like down in the United States or are they the same across the country? I am actually surprised to see a channel about guns from Canada because I was under the assumption that your federal laws are essentially not in support of the citizens of Canada owning firearms. I hope I am way off in my assumption but judging by you and your channel, clearly I am wrong unless you are in an underground bunker off the grid somewhere in the Yukon territory with a fake name. All jokes aside, I gave you a sub. I will support every American, Canadian as well as anyone in the free world the right to own a gun. Cheers from Arizona! BTW, nice video!

    • @canadianoperator
      @canadianoperator 6 часов назад

      Thank you for the sub :) Really apostate that. So, this made me chuckle a bit. Of course we appreciate the solidarity from our brothers and sisters to the south. As for our laws, they are federal. Keeps things simple. Our firearms program is enforced by the RCMP (the Mounties, the federal police) and this is how we get our licenses and various paperwork. There are a number of different organizations around Canada that provide the training, but the training is identical as are the requirements and licenses. As for being up in the Yukon in an underground bunker with a fake name - I can neither confirm nor deny. 🤔 Thanks for watching!

  • @Swisba
    @Swisba 8 часов назад

    RPALs are useless unless you have access to a range and a membership, which is near impossible to get unless you know somebody. I’ve tried in 3 different provinces and the wait times for range memberships was probably longer than to get a license. Not to mention the restricted category includes many rifles that are clearly non restricted. It’s a matter of principle to not own registered firearms. I wasn’t adult durring the time when registration was brought in for non restricted but I’ll never own or register a firearm myself.

    • @canadianoperator
      @canadianoperator 6 часов назад

      I disagree. Wilderness protection, pest management, hunting, recreational shooting, competitive shooting… many reasons to have a PAL. The reason there are waiting times to join ranges and clubs is because they’re in demand. I waited 9 months to join one, and 6 to join another. That’s not bad at all. So, just because your experience didn’t lend itself to being practical, doesn’t mean that RPALs are useless.

    • @Swisba
      @Swisba 2 часа назад

      @@canadianoperator it’s literally for recreational shooting only. I’m only talking about RPAL and yes it is useless, and a waste of money. People with RPALs are the same people who would shrug their shoulders at another non restricted registry. You’re ok with registering your ar15 why not your savage BA or your mosberg shotgun? Just ready to jump through another one of their hoops.

  • @gregl2459
    @gregl2459 8 часов назад

    Also if you do own restricted firearms and you are living with a partner he or she should also have their RPAL whenever restricted firearms are present in the dwelling where you both live. As a RPAL licence holder you can write a letter for your common law or spouse to say these restricted firearms are on loan to he or she so they can take them to the range as well provided they have the RPAL licence.

    • @canadianoperator
      @canadianoperator 6 часов назад

      This is a great point. More to that, if police ever question whether your spouse has access to the firearms and the answer is yes but they don’t have a license, you’re in BIG trouble. Of course, that begs the question, do you even talk to the police? To which the answer is no, no you don’t, never, for any reason. :)

    • @gregl2459
      @gregl2459 4 часа назад

      @@canadianoperator that was one of the points I was trying to make but ran out of time to make my comment. Also on the same post I made earlier I was told that the letter you write for your spouse to borrow said restricted firearms you don’t have to put a time limit on the letter or as to basically loan them out to your spouse indefinitely so if any problems arise those firearms would be on loan to him or her until you pass away. There are a few loopholes that exist I’d suggest getting Firearm Legal Defence Insurance I have it because the laws are changing all the time! CYA

    • @canadianoperator
      @canadianoperator 4 часа назад

      @@gregl2459This letter business would really not help you with respect to restricted firearms. That’s because they are registered. So if you wanted to have paperwork showing you loaned them to your spouse, you’d need to have a borrowing permit, even if it’s for the same address. It would be the only official recognized documentation to prove that your partner is allowed to be in possession of those firearms.

    • @royjohnson465

    Another good reason for the rpal is to register firearms. Ex. You buy the new crypto, and want to swap the barrel. So you buy a short barrel pop it on. Make sure it’s functioning ( we have 30 days to register after the swap)then call the cfp and they’ll help walk you through the process Ps when you call cfp ask for the technical department they seem to be way more knowledgeable on this topic

    In my experience copper bullets in general need to be fired in a perfectly clean barrel. For some reason the lead and gilding metal from jacketed projectiles has an adverse effect on accuracy. That goes for rimfires and center fires alike. If you're going to use a lead free bullet then it needs to be from a clean barrel. If you fire lead then you will need to clean the barrel before switching back to lead free.

    • @canadianoperator
      @canadianoperator День назад

      That’s an interesting take, but in that case only your first round would be accurate. Copper still fouls the barrel, just not nearly as much as lead. Not to mention fouling from gasses and propellant. Interesting theory though. Perhaps worth testing more.

    • @rogerf7265
      @rogerf7265 День назад

      @@canadianoperator for some reason as long as you fire only copper the accuracy is maintained. Both Ron Spomer and Backfire have done videos about it. Nobody that I've talked to can give an explanation why it happens but they have had similar experiences.

    US citizen in WA state here. I have owned one of these for 6 years and have to say this is one of the most surprisingly accurate rifles i own. It is a 1in group at 100 meters if i do my part. I have replaced all internals available with tool steel mcarbo parts and it now sits in a tandemkross AR style stock. This rifle has never(not one time) failed to feed or fire with glock branded mags running a variety of ammo. Current round count on the firearm is around 2k. Im totally sold on this "pew pew" and others should buy without worry!

    Get your RPAL! It may take a little longer for the restricted portion, due to the lack of demand right now. lts taking longer for our local instructor to fill the restricted classes. But if you are willing to travel, you can probably get into a class sooner!

    • @canadianoperator

      I would think it would be faster and easier since the demand is low. But I do agree that willingness to travel, even an hour or so, can really help. I did mine near Hamilton and I was able to schedule a class within 2-3 weeks of requesting a spot.

    I know I shouldn't reference 'illegal gun use' but that is exactly what's happening with this massive flood of undocumented illegal alien criminals who obtain firearms in Canada. Because Canadian law allows 'non-residents' to buy weapons after a PAL course. Not Citizens Only. Undocumented criminals. Who want your stuff. We need to make ALL firearms LEGAL again. A 2A equivalent constitutional amendment. For Citizens Only.

    • @canadianoperator
      @canadianoperator 2 дня назад

      @@raphnbBolts are extremely simple to clean. All you really need to do is clean the bore and bolt. You could probably take the bolt apart and clean up the firing pin occasionally. As for the chamber and inside of the receiver, if you’re using a snake or cleaning rod with patches that will all be cleaned out easily with several pass through all the way from the back and (where you put the bolt into the receiver) through the muzzle. You could use a cleaning rod with a larger chamber brush if you wanted to. But yeah it’s super simple. Then you just want to make sure you’re putting a dab of oil on the locking lugs and bolt body and you’re good. Obviously that’s just a brief synopsis and I always recommend you follow specific instructions in any owners manual.
