    Class 3 is an American NFA term. We still get that exact shotgun up here, the 590A1 14 inch 5+1. I own one and love it, found it much easier to maneuver than the 20 inch.

      I see. Thanks so much for clearing that up. I get pieces of knowledge from watching some of my favourite American gun guys but this is something I haven’t heard of and it’s good to be able to understand what it is.
      So I imagine being an NFA item just means additional paperwork for you guys? How does it work?
      Also I can completely get on board with a 14” model. I think here it could be considered restricted, depending how it’s classified by the RCMP - but nevertheless I can completely agree that a 14” barrel would be preferable - especially in a shotgun focused on security use.

    • @hail9444
      @hail9444 6 месяцев назад +5

      Oh no I am Canadian. It is non-restricted in Canada. Probably the only advantage we have in firearms law is we get short shotguns without the bullshit.
      You can go even shorter, a 12 inch churchill 612 or 8.5 inch dlask 870 shorty are both non restricted.
      NFA stuff is similar to a restricted transfer up here + a $200 fee to the feds.

      @@hail9444 ahhh I see. Yeah I heard some guys call it a “tax stamp” too. Similar things have to be done for some suppressors and stocks too I think.
      Speaking of which, the British government is planning to deregulate suppressors completely and I hope if we have a new government they have the sense to do the same. It would create more tax money for them from people just buying them. But more importantly it will actually help reduce noise pollution and help people avoid hearing loss. Here’s hoping.

      SBS are pretty cool, but at that point, KSG might start to make more sense since it is still shorter with a full length barrel.
      7+7+1 beats most things and would likely be way more than you need anyway.
      That being said, I still prefer the 1301 and Benelli M4 tho.😉

    I have a Mossberg 590A III with a 14inch barrel. The barrel is thicker than my other Mossberg (a 590S with a Magpul stock). The 590A eats 3 inch and 2 3/4 inch shells. It came with a standard stock where you can hold 4 x 2 3/4 inch shell in addition to the 5+1 onboard and whatever you have in the side saddle. Yes did ever lock up when I first racked it. But after a few good sprays of G95, a couple of hundred times of racking it and putting 2 or 3 boxes of shotshells through it's fine. Shot gun racking is certainly addictive so just keep it up until it runs smooth.

    Oh wow I didn't realize you can have more then 5 carriages in a shot gun in canada, thanks for that! So if it has a magazine , you limited to 5 plus one In chamber ? Or 5 total ?
    Also how do you feel about the Mossberg® 590S Optic-Ready Pump-Action Shotgun?
    Also , if it says 3" chamber , thar means it will fit any shell size up to 3" ?
    Sorry I just got my PAL license for non-restricted and restricted so I'm super excited!!

    • @canadianoperator
      @canadianoperator  3 дня назад

      Well, the limit is still 5 for any semi auto firearm that can discharge center fire ammunition and which has a detectable magazine.
      So, a lump shotgun can have unlimited rounds in its magazine because the magazine is not detachable and the action is not semi auto.
      Or, a bolt action can have a 20 round magazine because the action is not semi auto.
      This is different when hunting however. When hunting you can only have 3 shells in your shotgun, two in the magazine and one in the chamber.

    i never understood the point of the ghost ring sights... all they do is obstruct the target. sweet gun though.

      @canadianoperator  4 месяца назад

      A lot of similar sights do that. Especially these style, and on pistols and some rifles too.
      Yeah very cool gun :) lots of fun to shoot.

    Are you able to cowitness a red dot with the iron sights? The rear ghost ghost ring looks like it can go pretty high

    • @canadianoperator
      @canadianoperator  Месяц назад

      With the right mount you should be able to, but it all depends on the mount and style/height of the irons. I'm sure you could find a combination that would work. I could always try it on my red dot and see if I can, since I do have a co-witness mount for it.

      @@wv50bmgUnfortunately this kind of thing involves a ton of research and definitely some trial and error. There are so many different kinds of sights and optics out there that it would be very hard to just guess if a particular pairing would work. I’d recommend looking up the sights and optics that you want to use together and compare their measurements to get the best idea if they would be compatible. Contacting manufacturers may also be a good way to get this information. Sadly I wouldn’t be able to tell you off the top of my head if that combination would work. Best of luck!

    SG fall under the 20 MM bore diameter amendment.

    • @canadianoperator
      @canadianoperator  6 месяцев назад

      The bore diameter amendment refers to (and was based on) projectile size. The projectiles in buckshot for example (00 buck) are 30 caliber. That is an intrinsic design of a shotgun. The diameter of the bore is required to allow 9 of them to be fired out of a shell. So that argument doesn't hold any water. This is a non restricted firearm. And even if it were the case, it wouldn't make any difference on firearms already produced, as C-21 is forward looking in nature, and the evergreening clause ONLY applies to firearms new to the FRT which were designed AND manufactured after C-21 became law. That means that the 590A1 is completely unaffected.

    When getting this mossberg did the action release come very sticky?

    • @canadianoperator

      It was and is a little sticky. I did some reading on this and it seems it just needs to wear in and then should be fine.

    There are military specifications(mil spec) and guidelines for guns and gear use by the military. When contracts are open for bidders to submit pump action shotguns. There are mil spec requirements that the guns must follow. IE certain parts must be steel, not plastic….
    Any manufacture claiming to be Mil Spec, should also list the mil spec number for such a claim or its just an advertising gimmick.
    The forends are the weak link on the Mossberg. They are prone to breakage over time. Also, they lock up when firing. You can not have rearward pressure on pump when you pull the trigger or it locks the action. Once you release the pump it will cycle but, its not a speed pump.
