      Yeah, and I voted for JT in 2015 because he ran on a platform of eliminating "First past the post" elections so we could have a REAL democracy. Well that never happened. PP will rah-rah about Liberal gun bans so he can get votes, then once he gets your votes, he'll 180 on it so he can endear himself to urban Ontarians which is why C-21 exists in the first place.

    While the number of options has certainly diminished, there are still some restricted long guns you can get with an RPAL. Politically, the more RPAL owners, the more potential sway we may have in terms of political will. For example, there are 2.3 million licensed firearms owners...a complete handgun ban would be harder to "sell" if 80% of us were RPAL holders vs. only 10%. I have always said, get it now while you still can.

    I have had my PAL license for about a year, and recently completed the RPal safety standalone course. I have also received my course report back in the mail. I can't find anywhere on the RCMP website on how to specifically apply for the RPal as an add-on, and can't find much advice as most people take the back-to-back NR and R course and apply for both at once. On the RCMP firearm application tab, it says you can only apply online if you've never had a valid PAL before.
    Tldr; I already have my PAL, how do I apply for RPal add on?

    Get your RPAL while you still can, even if you never plan to own a gun. Circumstances change, both personal and political, and you may one day need a firearm. I think a conservative win may be a firearms owner win but Trudeau should have taught you that urban politicians making rules around firearms is a recipe for disaster. As long as your criminal background check is clean, you should be fine. I regret letting mine lapse. Lost out (temporarily, I hope) on the chance to get a pistol or AR15. Got it activated now and I’m making up for lost time. I’m fortunate enough to live on a large rural property where I can legal shoot in my own yard, and I’m loving that.

    Also if you do own restricted firearms and you are living with a partner he or she should also have their RPAL whenever restricted firearms are present in the dwelling where you both live. As a RPAL licence holder you can write a letter for your common law or spouse to say these restricted firearms are on loan to he or she so they can take them to the range as well provided they have the RPAL licence.

    • @canadianoperator
      @canadianoperator  2 месяца назад +6

      This is a great point. More to that, if police ever question whether your spouse has access to the firearms and the answer is yes but they don’t have a license, you’re in BIG trouble.
      Of course, that begs the question, do you even talk to the police? To which the answer is no, no you don’t, never, for any reason. :)

      @gregl2459 2 месяца назад +1

      @@canadianoperator that was one of the points I was trying to make but ran out of time to make my comment. Also on the same post I made earlier I was told that the letter you write for your spouse to borrow said restricted firearms you don’t have to put a time limit on the letter or as to basically loan them out to your spouse indefinitely so if any problems arise those firearms would be on loan to him or her until you pass away. There are a few loopholes that exist I’d suggest getting Firearm Legal Defence Insurance I have it because the laws are changing all the time! CYA

    • @canadianoperator
      @canadianoperator  2 месяца назад +2

      @@gregl2459This letter business would really not help you with respect to restricted firearms. That’s because they are registered. So if you wanted to have paperwork showing you loaned them to your spouse, you’d need to have a borrowing permit, even if it’s for the same address. It would be the only official recognized documentation to prove that your partner is allowed to be in possession of those firearms.

    I had my RPAL but dropped it for a few reasons. 1- a handgun is useless in Canada! My brother owned 250 acres but could not fire his pistol on his own land. 2- if you have a PAL and the RCMP want to inspect your storage facilities, they must give you notice, but if you have an RPAL they can inspect anytime without warning. 3- if you use a handgun to defend your home, it is likely you will be punished more than the home invader!

    • @canadianoperator
      @canadianoperator  2 месяца назад +3

      Have to disagree here. Despite the current legislation, handguns and the RPAL are not useless. It only depends on your use case and whether it’s practical for you. The RCMP can’t just show up and search your property. They need either reasonable grounds to believe you are a danger to someone, which would have had to have been reported, or a search warrant. In both cases, they’d need to be able to articulate why they wanted to search. Lastly, if you use any firearm to defend your home you are liable under the law based on interpretation of section 33/34 by a judge. That has nothing to do with whether you have an RPAL or not.

      I don’t think there is any difference between whether the person has a business or individual license. You can obtain a borrowing and temporary storage permit and BORROW the gun. To rent implies you’re paying to borrow it it from a stranger (business) which I don’t think is what this process is intended for.
      The only time you’re renting a gun is when you’re at the premises of a range that rents it to you for the duration of your stay at the range. For that, an ATT or TSP is not required as the firearm is not moving off the property.

  • @Swisba
    @Swisba 2 месяца назад +1

    RPALs are useless unless you have access to a range and a membership, which is near impossible to get unless you know somebody. I’ve tried in 3 different provinces and the wait times for range memberships was probably longer than to get a license. Not to mention the restricted category includes many rifles that are clearly non restricted. It’s a matter of principle to not own registered firearms. I wasn’t adult durring the time when registration was brought in for non restricted but I’ll never own or register a firearm myself.

    • @canadianoperator
      @canadianoperator  2 месяца назад +2

      I disagree. Wilderness protection, pest management, hunting, recreational shooting, competitive shooting… many reasons to have a PAL. The reason there are waiting times to join ranges and clubs is because they’re in demand. I waited 9 months to join one, and 6 to join another. That’s not bad at all. So, just because your experience didn’t lend itself to being practical, doesn’t mean that RPALs are useless.
