I Bought A 23 Year Old Vinyl Cutter | Will it work?
I bought a 23 year old used vinyl cutter for $80 bucks. The GCC Panther or as Sign Warehouse called it the Vinyl Express GRC-61 24" Servo driven plotter with Digital LCD display. No stand and the cutter did not have the USB to connect the cutter to my Windows 7 PC with Flexi 12 Pro, I had to use a USB Serial Adapter and connect the 9pin to the 28 pin on the plotter.
A few tips and tricks I remembered along the way, like hardware flow control and what it does to interact with the cutter.

How To Make a Co2 Laser Stand
Просмотров 57010 месяцев назад
I bought a "new to me" 50watt 12x20 CO2 laser, now I just need somewhere to put it. I figured I would make a simple, cheap and easy stand for it. I used 8 pieces of 2x4x93, 1 4x8 4 ply 1/2in sheet of plywood and a box of 3in drywall screws. Total time was about 2 hours from start to finish. It came out great, super sturdy with plenty of room under for the chiller and air pump.

When I ordered Ronan last time they too arrived looking like that, warped and paint running out. I have been using Ronan for about 30 years now, but they messed up their paint. Several of the cans they sent me are pretty much unusable , they would not skin over, instead they turn into a huge messy chewing gum like paste. Will not buy it again.

It's kinda of funny how I found your channel. I'm coming from the laser world and recently got interested in vinyl stickers and signs. Naturally, I thought why not use my laser? It's been impossible for me to find a PVC free vinyl that is laser safe. There are of course HTV that are laser safe, but I've not found any sticker vinyl. Do you know of any laser safe sticker vinyl and have you thought about using your laser to cut vinyl? I'm just getting started with my side business, but vinyl stickers seem like a good item to offer and also a way to accentuate some of my laser projects. I've interested to see your growth and how you apply your years of expertise to this new market. Best Jeff

Gerber makes outstanding hardware. These machines are built to last. They are very well engineered. I currently work for a fella in Alabama who's been in business for 40 years and he's been using Gerber products since they hit the market. He first started out with Gerber's Omega software suite and has continued to use it all these years. We currently use Gerber's Sabre 408 CNC router for big projects and more recently we just dusted off our Edge 2 printer that's been sitting for 15 years, looking to add it back to the workspace. We have a set of Mimaki machines for large format 54" materials, but the cost in keeping inventory and the losses in waste using those machines is becoming problematic. We decided to get the Edge down and get it back up and running so we can handle smaller projects with ease, negating the need for lamination and provide better products to customers faster and cheaper than we're able to do right now. For what this shop does these days, the Edge 2 and accompanying Envision plotter is more economical and far easier to use for the majority of our work, especially since boss loves Gerber's software and is super proficient with it. I'm super excited to see it in action. I've only been here for 5 years, so I've never seen these machines working. Right now we have issues getting the machine to communicate with our workstations. The machine we're using has the correct ECP compatible parallel port and we have the correct cable for the machine, but we keep running into a driver not found error. On top of that, the printer head needs to be replaced. The printer is currently only printing about 8 inches wide instead of the full 11.3 inches. Aside from the dead space in the head, it's working just fine at least from what I could tell from the built in print test the machine has.

This isn't really a video about alignment. From what I can tell there is no way to align this particular machine's height from left to right side other than reshaping the plastic spacer under the teflon with sandpaper. They come from the factory out of alignment and only get worse. Adjusting the carriage won't make a difference as it will still be off the same distance on each side as the frame is the the 'aligned' carriage.

No, I'm officially retired from sign making. Still have the etsy shop but don't sell there anymore.

@@TheSignGuyI have used one daily for about 8 years and I love it. I also have a USCutter plotter but it’s by far inferior to the Mimaki which for the price difference is expected.
