Hi I have a question, this is the same resin used for number plates gel numbers? Im looking into that but Im not sure what to use to make those. Thanks and great video.
How do you buy resin that will not yellow in 10 years when used outdoors exposed to sunlight? (automotive wheel center caps) ....also what do you need to print vinyl?
I don't know of any resin that will not yellow over time. I'm sure it's out there but I don't have any experience with anything other than what I used. To print vinyl you need a good design program, for outdoors a eco solvent or resin (latex) printer and a good UV stable media.
Best video I’ve found so far on doming resin. I’m about to start doming some of my vinyl stickers. When the resin cures, do the stickers still stay flexible? E.g. they will be able to stick on a curved surface?
Thank you! Yes the RDS resin I use remains flexible but it will also depend on the vinyl you are using to dome! Cast will conform better than calendared and I would say the resin does not have a memory so as long as the vinyl sticks the resin should fallow the vinyl without issues.
Can I do this over chrome with self leveling epoxy resin? I was thinking of making an emblem,1. cutting out a plastic pvc shape that would halo around my vinyl decal. 2. Stick the decal on a cut black pvc plastic piece. So I'm just wondering about part 3, can I use a syringe 💉 (no needle) and use epoxy resin. Hard is ok. I'm thinking for a tool box 🧰 logo. Thanks
Fantastic tutorial! Thanks so much! I’ve already ordered materials although I couldn’t get in touch with RDS so I ordered same kit elsewhere. What type or brand of Chrome adhesive vinyl do you use?
Thank you! Depends on what I have on hand but either RTape VinylEfx Outdoor series or the Oracal 383 Silver/Gold leaf for "everyday" stuff and it's good for about 3-5 years. If you want the BEST and longest lasting (10 year+) use quickgoldfoils.com
It would be an EPSON SURE COLOR-S Series IF I was to buy another printer. The MUTOH is tried and true, ROLANDS are pretty reliable as well, printer support and ink availability should be key.
Don't know anything about them. I thought the Sawgrass was a sublimation printer and not sure how the process will work with heat from the sublimation.
I never had on the smaller decals, maybe on the bigger ones you might need to. Make sure the resin is fully cured (a few days) before using the app tape.
Regular Med or High tack transfer paper, not the clear stuff. And generally you don't need transfer paper, just pick a corner and stick. They are thick enough you really don't need the transfer paper.
Use a little heat to get the air out, or the resin could have expired. If the resin expired it will not mix correctly or cure correctly and will be clumpy.
You need to reach out to the owners. As I said in the video they are old school and won't do any on-line orders. Once you reach out to them (email or phone) they will take care of you.
As a small single person sign shop, I truly appreciate on the tips and tricks you give. There's definitely a value here. Thank you
More then welcome. Appreciate you watching!
Wow, great video. All of your vids are great. I learn so much from you. Thank you!!
Outstanding video, and great way to expand what our shops can offer. Thank you!!
Hope it helps!
I sure appreciate the tip about the difference between 3M 75 and 3M 77. Good to know!
Not a problem, I learned the hard way 😂
I missed that part. What was the tip?
Will doming boat letters make them last longer? I did a flag background letters for a boat using a machine that prints on vinyl and are not laminated.
100% absolutely it will help with the life of the prints. Heavier ink saturation will also help with the life of the prints.
How many decals would you say you can do with one mixing kit?
The actual number depends on the size of the decals. Each Cartridge covers 55 square inches and that is about 7" X 8" area.
this is a great idea, where do I get the resin.Thank you in advance
Check link in the description.

Not sure. I've always used the resin on vinyl. That resin is very flexible and UV stable, it is a great product.
@@TheSignGuy great I will try to buy it and lets see if it works. Thanks for the reply

@@TheSignGuy Some custom center cap folks are claiming won't yellow. That's a big claim and I have zero experience.
Hello, is there a UV light you recommend? I started doming in my garage and the resin is taking forever to cure! Thank you in advance.
I've never had the need to use a UV light other than the sun.
Where can I find that gold textured paper that you used on the STICKERS sticker? And will it work on an inkjet printer? Looks amazing.
I think RTape makes that film. Search for Small Engine Turned vinyl and you should find what your looking for.
will regular clear 2 part epoxy resin from like walmart or the hardware store work?
No, that is a hard resin, the doming resin stay soft and flexible when cured.

What transfer paper do you use to transfer the domed boat letters? Thank you.
I've been using the Briteline App Tape, 99% sure it's the same as the R-Tape 4075 High Tack App Tape. So any high tack app tape should work.
Thank you so much for the response. Love your channel and content! @@TheSignGuy
I need a couple of decals domed... Can I send them to you to resin?
Sorry but I'm retired from doing signs.

Not sure, the resin I use is firm but soft and somewhat flexible. I don't have any experience with harder resins.
Do you transfer these with tranfer paper?
You can, I typically make the base in one piece so you don't have to. If your doing boat numbers , yes they need masked.
Why does the heat gun remove air bubbles?
I have no idea, I just know it works. 😅
Makes the resin thinner allowing air bubbles to rise up easier and get released

@TheSignGuy OK thanks for the reply what about a Sawgrass sg500 printer would you recommend that one.
Don't know anything about them. I thought the Sawgrass was a sublimation printer and not sure how the process will work with heat from the sublimation.
Do you use transfer tape to install the dome decal?

Do you know if I can buy similar resin at Home Depot or Amazon?
Not that I know of, it's a specialty resin from specific manufacturers.
Great video thanks a lot!
Glad you liked it!
Excuse me sir, why my doming stickers not smooth😢

Looks like the business for the epoxy is out of business. Is there another business that sell it?

@@TheSignGuy Just talked to them, so all is good.
