Aussie Ravenclaw and Schyph give Episode 1 of Oshi no Ko S2 scores that are way too high. BUT THAT PRODUCTION QUALITY... We're trialing live stream watch parties so I can catch new stuff and get through anime series faster (WHAT A CONCEPT). Still working through some small things ie. we'll have YT chat overlay/better mic quality for next ep. But if you're here... you're here for the guided rant...

    Yeah Template has an interesting MV, and I've thought about it a few times to try and figure it out. I think you're pretty much in the right area, being about different types of toxic fans. Obsession or, as you put it 'white knighting', and whatever else might be going on. A very interesting contrast for me is one of Towa's songs, Reimei, which IIRC came out around the same time. It seems to be more about needing the support of fans (who aren't toxic, hopefully, lol). On that note I'd be curious to see you analyze some of Towa's songs sometime.

    Wow, this came out of nowhere! I'd never have guessed we'd get a S2 reaction for a show that wasn't even in your AniList, especially when it's just started airing! Oshi no Ko is a series I have mixed feelings about. I really liked the beginning of the story, but everything after Tokyo Blade is a blur in my memory, and I have been actively disliking the current manga arc, so I wasn't planning on keeping watching it, but now I guess I will. Following the theme about adaptations, I believe they skipped the setup for the arc, which feels odd, and I find the opening segment questionable, with its numerous character shots, but I've generally liked the rest of what I've seen. Regarding the other mentioned anime, I've heard a lot of praise for Mushoku Tensei, but even fans of the series tend to go "yeah, understandable" if someone doesn't wanna watch the show because of the MC. Everything I heard about him is... rough, really rough. More than just flawed, he seems to be very uncomfortable to watch. I haven't watched The Promised Neverland in a traditional way, having seen just anime reactions to it, but having read the manga, I'd say that while there is a significant difference between them, I think the anime is passable/enjoyable as its own experience, just likely less so, if you read the manga. One thing I remember, though I might be misremembering, is that the anime has its characters voice out their inner thoughts, which considering the setting, is REALLY stupid, but again, I think it can be enjoyed. Season 2 is just... beyond awful, and this is coming from someone who dropped the manga in the arc that S2 was supposed to cover. Back to Oshi no Ko, I also enjoyed what I heard from the ending. Unlike you, I don't think I have a musical ear, so you may find these unimpressive, but I'd recommend checking out Kira Kira no Hai from Dungeon Meshi, Wareta Ringo from Shinsekai Yori, and Dear Future from Mawaru Penguindrum. I usually like anime songs, but hardly put them into "wow, these are really good" territory, these three are some of the ones that I actually really like.

    • @ravenclawreacts
      @ravenclawreacts 4 часа назад

      ohh another manga reader! I'd be interested in your thoughts on adaptation choices as we go. Yep having live watch parties was somewhat unplanned, but I was convinced to give Season 2 a go. I get the feeling this is the kind of series where someone who hasn't read the original manga will be more forgiving, so that's a win for me. Re: music, the fact that you have a category of rare songs that you actually really like is already a good sign of having a musical ear!

    Japanese song writers actually uses very similar music techniques. I don't know if it's cultural, but the underlying tone hasn't changed very much through the last 10 years... Mumei's Mumei is always a good song to listen to. But if you're looking for slower songs, Ninomae Ina's is pretty good too.

    ive had the absolute luck to have michizure be the very first ayase song i've ever heard 😂the second one was idol, which is one of the most distinct as you've pointed out i have no music theory knowledge at all (and slowly absorbing yours via these vods, rly looking forward to my fav true girls show!) but when i checked out other ayase songs after listening to those first two a bunch i could tell immediately how similar they were, and seeing it dissected here was mindblowing! now, for my Opinions(tm): -the brass in michizure doesnt sound 'plasticky' to me, just... distant, far in the background, so a lot of the lows get lost? i think they're very expressive but mostly sits back so suisei's vocals can sit very nicely on top of everything; also, now with having seen ayase songs be strung and laid out like this, i think suisei's vocal take for michizure really lets her personal flair shine through, so now i appreciate it even more -the key changes in mister actually sounds like a progression to me (my very first time listening to it here) and i just gave it a full listen... a song about a robot apparently? so the jarring key changes does serve to fit the lyrics (it drops right as it's revealed that the girl is a robot, 'my mechanical heart'), and the instruments and singing feeling like it's very precise and stilted in a way does fit the theme... then again i am a dissonant melodies enjoyer -re: music industry, it's definitely the reality of 'comissioning art for commercial purposes', with deadlines to meet and a 'strong identity' required to market... i went through the 'lets produce a brand -> well that limits me to this and this and i wont be able to do that -> ah f* it lets just go indie' circle of hell myself, now on to the circle (currently practicing guitar to get good enough to record) i'm in HSH if you'd like to chat about music analysis!

    I have listen to the drum part for the longest time and TIL the bass drum are on 2 and 4 I always thought of it as the bass drum part were doing slow 4/4 with snare on the upbeat of 4 every 2 measures 😂 The analysis on the stress is so interesting. Also the drum part at the slow part had irregular tempo for hi-hats and the bass and snare rhythm are dragged longer with 2 different set of rhythm. So many cool parts about the song.

    I love Gunjou (the first song that made me look out for Yoasobi songs), and enjoy other Ayase songs before Kaibutsu and Idol i.e. when every hit anime gotta have an opening by Yoasobi . Great analysis as always, and very educational! I hadn't listened to enough Ayase songs to notice the sameness, and without that knowledge I'd say Michizure is a decent track but not the strongest on the album. However, when you played the clips back-to-back the "Ayase flavor" became super obvious, and halfway through your song creation process I couldn't help but hear parts of Michizure in several of the examples.

    Kept us waiting huh? Well worth it though. Hope all is good with you. Can't wait to see the rest of the videos. And of course Suisei would be fine dropping off a building, she is the center of gravity after all.

    I like Michizure, but mostly because I kinda like the techniques that Yoasobi abuses. Just a matter of personal taste honestly. If you like it every new Yoasobi song is awesome because they are all similar.
