She's also one of the talents who started from the very bottom in Hololive, and this song is basically both a love letter to fans and also a story of her personal journey. Here's some extra notes: 1. Personally, I think the "shooting star" part is more about self doubt. While she's always been pretty confident with her voice, she is (or was) not confident at all about aiming high as a career singer. Before this song she's already quite known as a memelord, but for various personal and technical reasons she took a very long time to finish this song (a.k.a her first OG song). She was just not in a position where she could become a "shooting star" as she was not brave or ready enough to wish for it. 2. This song was recorded during pandemic lockdown, one of the limitation for the production (no recording to studio!) 3. A lot of people have talked about this, but I need to reiterate: Her performance of ALiCE&U in Holofest 3 is absolutely phenomenal. Not only her vocal is even better there, the live music (string, piano, drum, etc) greatly enhanced the good composition that you already praised here to another level. She also sung the final part with Ayunda (deep) voice, which has less symbolism but resulting in an even stronger emotion for that part. 4. This song and her concert performances have made her reputation as a singer grow, and now is an exciting time to be a Risuners! Of course she still need to take her time to grow from almost nothing and very little budget, but she have released another song (1:15 AM) and she already has some exciting music stuffs being cooked (nothing is explicitly announced in public yet but she have allowed us to start gradually hyping stuffs, soon TM). One of the thing that is already announced is that she, Moona, Reine, and Kobo are going to have a music concert tour in 4 countries (ID, US, SG, MY) in this November - December. If anyone here live in one of those countries, if possible please give them a support!
The self doubt also shows in "I will try to shine", which changes to a confident "this is my time to shine" at the end. This entire song gives me shivers, I swear.
>If anyone here live in one of those countries, if possible please give them a support! yeah dude, i live in ID and want to support her by coming to her concert, but guess what? the ticket already sold out in less than 10mins, good for them and very sad for me
@@amubot You must have missed the news somehow: They opened new seats several days ago, including a new tribune seats that are even cheaper (180k). They have announced this several times in streams as well, I'm surprised to see a lot of people are still unaware of it.
The lyrics also use her character lore as the framing of that message to her fans. In the character lore she has built, the "diva voice" is Ayunda, a witch who transferred her soul into the body of her squirrel familiar (Risu) in order to escape persecution. In the lyrics of the song, this Ayunda voice is writing a song as a thank you for accepting her, which is responded to by the Risu voice near the end. There is another little easter egg in the song title. Pre-debut, she was wanting to use the character name 'Alice', but right before another vtuber debuted using the name Alice, so she changed it. Still liking the name, though, she choose 'A. Risu', which would be read as 'Alice' by a Japanese speaker. The song title is a callback to that. None of that is terribly important, I just thought it was neat that she squeezed so many little gifts to her fans into the song.
You would definitely love a lot of her covers, but I think her best rendition of Alice&U was definitely her 1st 3D appearance during the HoloFes 2022! Also some HoloID (Moona, Risu, Kobo, Reine) will have a Concert Tour in 4 SEA contries, and AnimeNYC around november! So people going to that concert would hear her live and be flabbergasted how good the ID girls are! Another thing to add is that there is a New Singing Goddess in HoloEN, Nerissa Ravencroft. I suggest you react to her covers to see this gem of a vocalist!
I don't remember the exact details but years ago, Risu went for vocal training wanting to improve. At her first lesson, she sang to her singing teacher, who proceeded to go "there's nothing I can teach you, you're already perfect." IIRC Risu has never (maybe until very recently) received vocal training. Everything you heard was simply just her natural control over her voice, a talent that multiple Hololive talents (heh) have expressed their unending jealously of.
As cool as that experience was, a comment like that from a coach should be a sign for Risu to get a different instructor. Some of most technically proficient singers may use multiple vocal coaches, since music is not a hard science. No coach understands every genre or style and often coaches have specialties.
@@友-16 Yeah my memory of that story is more along the lines of "_I_ have nothing more _I_ can teach you". Which sounds more like that vocal coach admitting they were outclassed, and sort of admitting she should find a (different/better) coach.
@@SuperSpy00bob Ah yup, that definitely sounds right. Sorry for the misinfo! It's just been so long I have only the scraps of the story left in my brain to tell! But yes, thanks for the correction!
@@友-16 Definitely, when I heard of this story, I was afraid Risu would take it as gospel and not seek improvement anymore. Glad she found another coach.
51:35 A little funfact about her "squirrel voice": Most at the time she uses this voice in her streams, meanwhile she uses her "diva voice" in karaoke streams or special occasions. Many fans sees is as two Risus: the energetic, clumsy, trollish Risu with her squirrel voice, and the more seducing & charming Ayunda with a lower pitch. 49:54 You can interpret it, like instead normally singing, she's directly sending her message to her fans (Risuners) with her normal squirrel voice, the same way she speaks to her viewers on stream. She's personally thanking everyone by singing it in her usual voice.
The "weird" voice she uses at the end is to represent her Lore: she is a witch (Ayunda) who had to escape and fused with a squirrel (Risu). So she has a more mature voice and a child-like one in the same body and switches a lot during streams and songs.
I just got to the part where you deep-dived into the Dmin into F#maj key change and it made me smile how its abruptness made you stop and think. It's one of those things that I'm relatively used to from Japanese composers, right down to the use of a non-diatonic C# chord in Dmin right before key changing to F#. Granted, most of the time I've seen it done, it wasn't as abrupt. Usually I've seen it done in the context of a the minor key's bVI-bVII-i chord progression, where they sneak in the relative major's vii° chord right before ending with a _major_ I, which functions as the bVI of the key being changed to. As a pivot chord, this song's VII does the same job as the more common variant of the vii° chord I've seen, but the context surrounding it gives it such a distinct flavor in comparison. Great stuff.
Thank you for this, Ravenclaw! Someone described Risu as that character in an anime who could be stronger than the main character but instead just wants to chill and do silly things, which is such a perfect description
Thank you for another Hololive song analysis video! I so love listening to you breaking down the music theory behind them. I'm sure these videos take a lot of time and effort to make, so I just want to say how much we appreciate you for making them!
Yay, a Risu analysis! Lovely to see her appreciated for being the vocal beast that she is. "Hololive's Celine Dion", to quote a certain reaper. You're right on point with how often vtubers use the "public persona / duality" theme in their songs. In Hololive alone Moona does in in "High Tide" and "Perisai Jitu", Towa in "Palette", Gura in "Reflect", Calli in "Resting Power", Sakamata Chloe in "Marionette" (do check her out, she's got a raw, but very interesting voice), Akai Haato / Haachama in "Infinity" (but Haachama's personas are a deep rabbit hole in itself), and so on, and so on. There's so many different executions of this theme, but they're all so creative and insightful it never gets old. As far as Holo divas go, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the OG, AZKi. Her song on the nature of a virtual idol's career, "Inochi", is a classic at this point. Re the tri-lingual flex, it's like a common thing for ID girls. They're all doing great in JP and EN, and utilise both those and their native language in music, and it's always so cool. Also there's a super fun song called "Holotori Dance", where Hololive's "bird" girls from JP, ID and EN branches sing in three languages and pretty much every line is a bird-related pun. It's a massive earworm too. The ending part about lyrics and accents fitting the rhythm was very interesting -- I knew there's something unusual in the phrasing here and there, but I didn't have the theoretical background to account it for anything else than "foreign accent". On the topic, you should definitely check out the superpopular songs Yoasobi do in both JP and EN, eg. Idol or Into The Night -- they're specifically writing the EN lyrics so they mirror the JP rhythm/phrasing to a tee, to the point you might not realise it's in English until you have the lyric sheet in front of you. Mindblowing stuff. Also Hololive girls did like 20 covers of "Idol", so that could be fun analysis material too :D
I'm sure someone else mentioned this already, but Suisei's comment during a live watchalong of Risu singing was "Ayunda Risu... what the heck are you?"

There's another hololive talent who debuted not long ago with CRAZY vocals: Nerissa Ravencroft from Hololive EN Advent. Btw most japanese fans (and japanese talents) never listened to Risu until one day she appeared in HoloFES and in front of all the fans floored everyone with this song, she gained a ton of subs after her performance and a ton of JP members called her a Disney Princess.
This is not really related to the video BUT there is this HololiveEN girl, Hakos Baelz, who happens to be australian, that made a series of short videos on her channel "promoting" vegemite among JP members. You may want watch those only for your amusement. Plus she has this song, Psycho, that is pretty good too, but a totally different genre from ALiCE&u.

Thank you for your in-depth analysis and appreciation of Risu's Alice&u, you really gave her justice on her singing prowess. I hope you also analyzed her recent 1:15 AM OG song, it's a very moody song with thick 80's city pop vibe that I love it so much, perfect song for a long drive in a highway, or just chilling alone in my room. This song is very underrated and it breaks my heart that this song can't even break 1 million view even after 6 month. As you know most of Hololive talent had to fund their own OG song, and as incredible as Risu's talent is, she is still "small", and not as rich, compared to her Hololive peers and can't produce more song even if she really wanted to. So looking at 1:15 AM performance really breaking my heart. One thing I applaud about Risu is she didn't afraid to choose a genre that not really popular to begin with, so I really hope you give her in-depth review of the super unique and very chill 1:15 AM song. Thank you!
I’ve been waiting for this breakdown. Just the lyrical word choice. Let’s goooo I’m glad you found the lyrics message. That’s such a great Easter egg in the song.
(1st OG)Alice&u for me, is like "when a singer got first OG song, full of effort" For some reason I feel Alice&U is like Risu itself. (2nd OG) 1:15 am is like adventure, and exploring a new path, and yea without proper tuning because of the deadline. (3rd OG) sing out, I don't have a word for this, i love it. And yeah I comments this before last part, sorry And also Sorry for my bad English.

New to this channel, but if you haven’t heard them yet, I HIGHLY recommend Kanata Amane -Unravel (specifically her 3D concert version) Hakos Baelz -A Million Miles Away Towa Tokoyami -Error These are all covers, but they are AMAZING! And not a member of Hololive, but almost any song by Ironmouse is a must (especially if it’s her using her operatic voice)

So people going to that concert would hear her live and be flabbergasted how good the ID girls are!
Another thing to add is that there is a New Singing Goddess in HoloEN, Nerissa Ravencroft. I suggest you react to her covers to see this gem of a vocalist!
Have heard a couple of Nerissa’s covers - yep she’s the real deal. Great lyricist too.
I don't remember the exact details but years ago, Risu went for vocal training wanting to improve. At her first lesson, she sang to her singing teacher, who proceeded to go "there's nothing I can teach you, you're already perfect."
IIRC Risu has never (maybe until very recently) received vocal training.
@@SuperSpy00bob that _ | _ tho, I thought her teacher gave her a middle finger like "fucc you! Have nothing more I can teach you!"
@@友-16 Definitely, when I heard of this story, I was afraid Risu would take it as gospel and not seek improvement anymore. Glad she found another coach.
51:35 A little funfact about her "squirrel voice":
Most at the time she uses this voice in her streams, meanwhile she uses her "diva voice" in karaoke streams or special occasions.
Many fans sees is as two Risus: the energetic, clumsy, trollish Risu with her squirrel voice, and the more seducing & charming Ayunda with a lower pitch.
49:54 You can interpret it, like instead normally singing,
she's directly sending her message to her fans (Risuners) with her normal squirrel voice, the same way she speaks to her viewers on stream.
She's personally thanking everyone by singing it in her usual voice.
Damn, an analysis that's longer than Stellar Stellar! Def worth the 10 month wait xD
Love all the Suisei emote edits 😂
Great stuff.
interesting, thanks Red!
Aw cheers! They're a lot of fun to make too
I only discovered this song lately and this video is precious to me. thank you for your great work!
I don't know much about misic, but after a few videos, I'm surprised how much of a song can be told through music alone.
YEP music is mad, glad you came by!
Also Hololive girls did like 20 covers of "Idol", so that could be fun analysis material too :D
realizing that alice&u has a story based purely on listening to specific aspects of the track is honestly impressive.
Love your Reaction + Analysis videos!
I learned so much and make me realize how beautiful the songs are!
Happy you learned something!
I'm sure someone else mentioned this already, but Suisei's comment during a live watchalong of Risu singing was "Ayunda Risu... what the heck are you?"
I really love the suisei stamps all over the place, they make me laugh so much
8:07 nuts 🐿️
Im so late to seeing this 🤣 I'm glad you finally got around to checking her out. She is so amazingly talented.
Alice&u reaction and deep analysis let's fkn GOOOOOOO
.
Other people in the comments probably had said everything about this song, so I'm just gonna say: *Thank you for reacting and analyzing Risu's first original song!* 🙏

Oh whoops, almost forgot, on October 31st, you're gonna see something interesting from Risu, so don't miss it!!!
Hi Raven!
I’m so happy thar you’ve started noticing this squirrel- though her live performance at hololive 3rd fes really takes the cake!
Hopefully there’s still some blue-ray lying around but please do check it out if you had a chance! This squirrel is beside suisei whenever she performs as “ayunda”.
Every live shows of her in each holofes is really noteworthy.
Best reaction. Best analysis, breakdown, and explanation. Best video.
Risu is amazing, just as this analysis
45:45 yeah, i get that feeling where there is no word that really captures a moment, so you just kinda make a noise.
Incoming view spike.
Also, this upload is 5 days too early. Real fans will get it.
Yeah, releasing this 5 days later woulda been nuts
Your code analysis is excellent.

Thank you so much for such an in depth analysis, your insight is always a treat, I was enchanted by this song since it came out but i could never put into words why it felt so especial, but i understand that Risu really went all out on this song, as you said it really is her legacy for us to to marvel at.
Risu is the true diva of holoID, but she chose the meme path
There is a reason why many Hololive member calls Risu "The Celine Dion of Hololive" ^^
She has a incredible voice range and amazing control of her voice! Risu is an outstanding singer!
Thank you for the reaction and analysis!
I have to say, as someone who has seen a great deal of react content, your videos are the best BAR NONE.
Ayeee ty!
Feryquitous composed this song for Risu.
Feryquitous also wrote songs for other big vsingers such as Koko.
3 of such songs come to mind:
- Bliss
- Abstractions Void
- Senkou no Kanata
Would love to see any of these songs get analyzed by you.
Feryquitous's chords are always insane
@@ブランク-x2i
Feryquitous recently wrote a song for albemuth and while it is a good song, it might be my least favorite Feryquitous vtuber/vsinger song.
albemuth feryquitous song here: watch?v=SKrk4YSiub4
Ayunda Risu Hololive Indonesia 🤎
thank you for the reaction video
This Comment is 2 weeks late but
If you take the all the first word from the song(from Verse 1 through Pre chorus) it will spell Ayunda Risu Hololive Indonesia.
Ayunda Risu 「ALiCE&u」
[Verse 1]
Are my eyes deceiving me?
Your soul starts to fade
Unleash your magic to me
Now it's time not to worry
Do believe in me
A journey we have to see
Rurira rarira
Incomplete melody
Sung with a sweet but yet a sad symphony
Unwavering spirit that you told me
How can I do it when you're not even here
Oh, let me

Let out the words I could say to you right now, I can only tell you a bit
Overwhelm me with your kindness is a gift that I could never ever trade with anything
Let the time send this song to your ears
I hope one day you will sing it to me
Versatile melody that I tried to write
Everyday I would pray in my heart 'cause I'm reaching the sky

DO you want me to be here?
Nulling all the emotions you're supposed to feel
Even voice I wanna hear
[Pre-Chorus]
Shalala shalila
Incomplete melody
Arriving in your ears like it's destiny.
3:16 This is the reaction I've been waiting for since you reacted to Holomember's King.
I teared up when i heard her perform this during 3rd Fes.
3:16 *_NOOO!!!_* 😆
Yeah, she's cracked.
Cracking nuts since debut.
this is such a great way to learn/review music theory
Always appreciate the analysis of these songs and hearing what other people think. I admit, mostly the lyrics because a lot of the music theory goes over my head, but I do pick up and understand bits and pieces.
I expect like 10 to 15 minutes reaction + analysis, but got an hour long one instead.
Bless you madam
Let’s goooo
I’m glad you found the lyrics message. That’s such a great Easter egg in the song.
finally, another hololive reaction from ravenclaw. I've missed your reactions.
The wait is worth.
She sang this song at Hololive 3rd festival , that version is awsome , especially the last part.
(1st OG)Alice&u for me, is like "when a singer got first OG song, full of effort"
For some reason I feel Alice&U is like Risu itself.
(2nd OG) 1:15 am is like adventure, and exploring a new path, and yea without proper tuning because of the deadline.
(3rd OG) sing out, I don't have a word for this, i love it.
And yeah I comments this before last part, sorry
And also Sorry for my bad English.
You offer so much more depth than other channels, thank you for the deep dive!
I hope you'll have a chance to cover Towa's new album sometime, I think the variety of songs makes it very interesting!
Seconding more Towa, her music production is shaping to be my favorite in the whole Hololive
I really like how you explain the music theory. You literally explain the mv with the music theory, great video!
You are absolutely powering through some great Hololive songs. Thank you for your in-depth discussions, your analysis makes the resultant synthesis all the more satisfying.
Glad to see you covering this one, its such a treasure
Lol i love the suisei faces on the notes and editing!
One of my favorite Hololive singers is getting more recognition! LETSGO!
A very great analysis of risu's first song. Thank you for sharing with us. I learn a lot.
It's always a good day when you release a reaction video.
Thank you for the reaction and anlysis :)
(P.S: I don't know if anyone has mentioned her before, but I would love to hear your thoughts on HololiveEN's newest big singer, Nerissa Ravencroft)
❤i like this video analysis..
New to this channel, but if you haven’t heard them yet, I HIGHLY recommend
Kanata Amane -Unravel (specifically her 3D concert version)
Hakos Baelz -A Million Miles Away
Towa Tokoyami -Error
These are all covers, but they are AMAZING!
And not a member of Hololive, but almost any song by Ironmouse is a must (especially if it’s her using her operatic voice)
yeah, this song is really masterpiece
Thanks for the reaction qnd analysis.. the song that changes my life
Thank you so much for everything. I learn a lot from you about music theory
Loved the video! Best reaction and analysis I've ever seen.
24:15 huh i guess it makes even more sense because in the MV this is the part where it shows a book being turned, this is so effing coool
LESGOOOO Finally! Thank you :D
Once again, another immensely enjoyable analysis. I look forward to more.
Another great Hololive music analysis! I'm always happy to see Risu get recognition, her voice is one of the best in the whole company, and this was a very personal song for her. Her 3rd fes performance of it was probably the most powerful and captivating Hololive stage performance I've seen.
Estuve esperando con ansias este momento
Same here. Very appreciative of these videos you make as someone who did not appreciate music until College. I learn so much that I started seeing music in a different perspective.
Woww, your dedication to music is awesome. 👏👏👏
When you were talking about the irregularities of the lyrics, I was hoping you'd get to see the lyrics as a whole, and you did 😂
I had the same thoughts, moreso in the weird structure of each line until I realized that too thanks to comments on her video. Great to see you still doing Hololive react/analysis!
Thank you for the reaction! Great video as always
You can read it "Alice and U" or "I listen you"
FYI:"if you look at the lyric the it will for her name" she is really an unpolished diamond, a very talented singer
You can also read it as "A Risu & U"
First time viewing one of your Hololive reactions - I have some catching up to do there. Enjoyed the detailed analysis of the music. You have a good singing voice, BTW.
I like the MV,the 「frame」make the video more like a letter, its like she write down her feeling and send messages to us.
Ngl i love this type of analysis since im not a musician and love to learn how things are done. Also long live the squirrel!
Long live the squirrel! And glad to know you find the music theory interesting!
Thank you for the amazing reaction and analysis.
Keep up the good work!
Hey your back and a risu reaction!
i love this kind of farytail(?) beat?
so that's why I love Akirose - Shallys and maybe Rose of the Lamp too (really recommend! lol)
Love Shallys. Would enjoy a reaction/analysis from Ravenclaw as well (especially with the lyrics lol)
When Hololive manager met Risu they pretty much immediately wanted a duet between Risu and Suisei, I don’t think they got one though
Finally, I've been waiting for you to react and analys this song and risu's voice
Thanks
Thank youu i like your reaction and analysis!!
Agrees with the waltz pendulum, kind of like a group of bittersweet songs cause of the memory. My favorite type of song are 3/4 or 6/8, so happy that one of Risu's OG song is in this time signature.
57:21 Even with all these complex notes and Lyric she still put in an EasterEgg in the song.
Truly a Memelord.

Thank you for covering Risu! You have the best music analysis videos I've seen on RUclips. I really enjoy your insight and learn a lot everytime you do one of these videos!
Always excited to see you reacting to Hololive talents. You are very concise with your reaction and not just about talents but music in general. It's always interesting to listen to you explain them bit by bit.
thanks ravenclaw! love to see more musical analysis + the raw reactions you have! I appreciate that you share the more educated insight you have on these songs, its charming! (more hololive analysis/reactions please!!!!)
finally another great holomem's reaction ive been waiting for!! i know you would deliver it as always!
You should check iofi’s 3D spotlight, she sings a song in multiple languages including sign language
Just wanna let u know that Risu have new Original song "Sing Out"
