When Moona made her debut on live stage, she performed "High Tide". All the other Hololive members doing their watchalong streams were gobsmacked and agreed: she's not just an idol, but a world-class diva. And yet, when the ID group was in Japan doing their 3D showcase, A-chan, de facto content director and general idol herder, was stunned to realise that, while Moona was the most elegant of them all, she was also the wackiest by far.

She would also discover that Moona is the sweetest of the girls.
She spent her own money to go visit all 6 of her koheis when they first started to make sure they had everything they needed and took them out to dinner.
She looks after all of her fellow HoloID idols.
This is actually how Moona became known as Momma Moona.
A-chan would also learn that Moona's power is up there with Towa and Calli's. But Moona works hard to keep her power from overwhelming her music.
In all A-chan found all of the ID and EN ladies to be very pleasant and full of life.
She talks about how Moona was hugging Iofi, Anya and Ollie a lot to help them focus. Yes Anya and Ollie were only there to cheer on Gen 1. But Ollie in particular was nervous and antsy.
She also noted that Kiara really does hang Calli IRL lol. She was very amused when Calli would tell Kiara no and try to get away but Kiara very happily chased her anyways.
Ina apparently was really shy at first and kept hiding behind Calli or Kiara.
A-chan said the ID and EN ladies made her first festival as director fun and memorable.

In Perisai Jitu, with the PV and lyrics, you can really hear the irony in the "ha ha"s in the chorus.

Ai no Chiisana uta is what new streamer feel, when you finally got audience albeit small, the gratitude and appreciation that you feel to the people that listen to you and support you.
High Tide is when the streamer start to gain traction and start to get a growth spurt in your audience, you feel the passion, you feel invincible as you start to climbing to the top
Perisai Jitu is what the streamer felt when they already at that said "top", and realizing that it's not only sunshine there. you start to feel the pressure of the large audience that you have,
you feel tired when you always have to smile in front of your audience even tough you feel down and bad.
you smile is your shield, but how long that shield would last?
Btw "Jitu" is a very weird adjective to used on shield. Jitu in bahasa indonesia means precise (and usually used to describe a long range weapon like arrow or gun), yes it can be translated to absolute shield, but not in a sense like the strongest shield, but more like the correct shield to used even tough it's very fragile.

Love these deep dives. While the third fest is hard to watch now, Towa brought Moona onto her most recent live and the two did a duet of 'High Tide,' providing a good glimpse of the choreography of the concert.
I would love to see you dip your toes back into the Kanata pool with her recent 3d performance and her just amazing cover of 'Unravel.'
Speaking if wish list items, in case your planned videos were not over whelming enough, is an analysis of Suisei's "Spector" album and a viewing of a recent anime named "Bochi the Rock."
Thank you for showing your music analysis skills.

      "Jitu" can also means "apt".
An example of typical use of "jitu" is "solusi jitu" (apt solution, right solution).
In the context of precision or accuracy, it is typically used to describe the aiming skill instead of the weapon/tool.
In the context of Perisai Jitu, I think it is comparable to "solusi jitu".

    • @Bobbias

I think as a native English speaker, the best translation might actually be "Perfect Shield". Perfect not in the sense of unbreakable, complete, or anything, but in the sense of 'the perfect fit', 'the perfect choice in this situation'.

    • @MitsurugiYuuhi
      @MitsurugiYuuhi Год назад +3

@@divingradish yes, usually jitu is an adjective to describe the person using the item but sometimes it's also used to describe the item, like "panah jitu". and i did agree, the shield that described in the song is more like an appropriate shield to used, even tough that shield is fragile but that the only shield that "feel right" she may have any other means to protect herself but it would likely made the situation worst, i mean she may talk back to her viewer but we already seen how many streamer got destroyed because their tried to defend themself by attacking their viewer. so yeah smiling maybe the only appropriate way to defend themself, but until when can they keep it. Just like the song said.

I remember a time when Moona was not popular and she released one of her first covers (her second i believe?) And started doing numbers cuz it was pretty good and unexpected that she was a good singer. People started coming to her streams and praising her for how good it was. She laughed and told them "And you haven't seen anything yet" and then started releasing banger after banger until today, still surprising people by what she is capable of doing.
Just felt like sharing this bit of... Trivia? Since those words kept me engaged to her music, and that engagement is still vibrant today. And honestly still think there is so much more she can do and still hasnt showed

Ai no Chiisana Uta was her song of appreciation for her fans.
Trivia time: it was the theme of her level in the first Major HoloLive Fan game which was a pain in the rear for some people, but they didn't care thanks to this song.

    • @TheAndrain
      @TheAndrain Год назад +8

When it comes to your full Video. I appreciate the deep neutral look you give us to the songs. Especially Ai no Chiisana Uta. I never hated the song, but after listening to it a lot of times, I always found something... grating to it. I think you've explained it extremely well, and I suppose I didn't particularly love those "Cheesy" points of the change of key that you found (It's really hard to complain about gratitude after all.) Her Vocals were never in question to me.
To me High Tide was a real level up from Moona, I felt the badass of a HoloLive production like I'd been spoiled with since falling into the Rabbit Hole with Calli. But imagining hearing this live. Well you've probably seen Shout in Crisis, A live Band is totally doable so, Wow just imagining Moona Live would be out of this world. It's too bad her song library is just a little short. It's regrettable all of the Sirens of Indonesia are only part time singers. Maybe they'll have a live band for 4th fest? That'd be AMAZING!
Perisai Jitu... It's hard to really like someone, especially one that is beloved by way too many people. The dissonance caused by the mask used to guard one's self really does create those negative feelings. Whether it's just the adoration of so many people it just becomes a number's game, the untold truth of the dark emotions that are spawned from the stress of the position, that need to be professional and keep it up because it IS your livihood. I mean, I work in customer service, and I have a certain... smugness about who I serve, due to the hard work I've done to learn my craft and the superiority over their ignorance, but I know I can't show it, at all, ever. It's nowhere to the degree that these performers probably experience, and perhaps there is guilt behind those feelings spawned from the darkness of the human heart or even the guilt of success where you know people who are every bit your equal, or perhaps you work with them, and you only got ahead because a psychopathic rabbit (Caring Senpai) look a liking to you and your Lapis Lazuli in Minecraft!
But in the end, there are people who aren't afraid of the negative feelings that show they genuinely like every part of that person, and maybe that's another point of fear? I don't know I've experienced this a lot following Calli and her songs both her and her roommate put out. Some say this is just an outlet, they'll be okay, but I wonder if they would not be better off, going a new path? I'll get rambly on if I continue too much more, but yeah... Musically and philosophically a beautiful song that's hard on the hearts of people who truly like her for who she is, all of her.
Thank you very much for the music education overall This was very educational for me. I always learn something from your videos. Please keep up the good work, and I hope you continue to grow.
PS: Before you go all in on Risu, you have to make sure to watch a few clips or a couple of streams, just to make sure you understand who she seems outside the studio for best effect when her lungs come out.

Moona has the modeling background so she's definitely seen ups and downs even though she's probably in her mid 20ies. Her songs reflect her experiences and for her fans, we know how much it means for her to reach the scope that she has today, especially when she first showcased herself at 2nd fes (the live that she first showcased her singing strength at Hololive's yearly event) with High Tide.
Edit: She especially appreciates her genmates that has been supportive of her the entire time, so there's tons of heart-warming moments where they're just together streaming and having fun.
It's actually pretty amusing to watch you react to Perisai Jitu, especially when you start realizing the Jazz coming in.

Moona's songs are all extremely personal, at least until now. So the text and MV of High Tide are a bit of an allegory of how she was feeling at the moment (it was released on her 2nd "vtuber birthday" and shortly before reaching two years from her debut), so chance are that it's all based on the relation between herself and her vtuber persona (that also plays a lot on the symbolism of the Moon an the tides). So the red creature could be read (emphasis on "could") as just the embodiment of bad and demoralizing thoughts, and a similar reasoning could be applied to most elements of the MV. You already guessed basically all about Perisai Jitu.
For context, about the holoID girls at the last fest, it also coincided to their debut of 3D model, a debut that they were forced to postpone for basically a year due to covid lockdown. This probably influenced how strong they did go at it.
I remember a comment that summarized the performance perfectly, it did go more or less like this "The other girls tried to show how cute or talented they are. The girls from ID1 walked on the stage with the intention of slaying the viewers. And they did it."
Even if they were spread on two different nights, the effect they did was literally of Moona kicking down a door, Iofi putting people inside at their ease and then Risu coming in and overwhelming them once and for all.
(Moona sang "High Tide", Iofi "Q&A=E / Kyawaii" and Risu "Alice&U".)

I know this comment is a bit late, but I would like to add that I personally think their live performances also significantly eclipsed the studio recorded versions of those songs. Especially Risu's Alice&u, I was floored when I heard it at FES.

Gonna edit my message as I go 🏃‍♀️
I agree that Ai no Chiisana Uta is just kinda hmm…… Cheesy. Basically cheesy, and just an okay song. I thought it's just my dislike of this kinda song, so it's surprising & interesting to hear some reasons why I might feel that way
😆😆😆 Such a mood with the High Tide reaction lmaooo
The instrumentals does so well at expressing the badassness with Moona's powerful vocals and well-timed with the lyrics too that the song overall feels like a story to experience along, I just, 10/10. 👌
Many JP Holo members have said how she's like a diva/overseas pop artist when she performed High Tide on the 3rd Holofest, and I agree as she owned the stage with her strong vocals AND -hips- dance, whew
Oh LMAO, so the story uuh… on the most basic, Moona Hoshinova is a half-lunar goddess. This MV expands on that lore that I think was built up over the months that she's vtubing? Iirc Moona is a human, until she met that ancient lunar goddess Hoshinova… Or something. Frankly the comments in the MV will do better elaboration for the story + its history lol
Ah yes, Moona's vocal harmonies. She seems to love to do them so much that she reportedly accidentally sang the harmony part instead of the main vocal for High Tide on live performance, forgot on which one, I think her 3D showcase 😂
But yea, I can hear & feel the result of her love that polished the harmonies and ad libs, it's interesting
😂😂😂 Yep, you're not alone in having whiplash between the pretty happy-sounding song and the lyrics & MV www
It's interesting to watch since I'm Indonesian so I know what it's about on first listen and rather than it sounding happy, it sounds more like a lament. A faked happiness. The sound of coping if you will, lol
It's ok, you'll eventually enjoy it and maybe ha-ha-ha along with her like the other Holo ID girls as it's rather catchy 😂
Thanks for your analysis video as always!

I always thought another neat aspect of the beat in the chorus of high tide is the way the synth bass pulls in and out, like the waves of a tide. Including with the suspended beat drops, when the bass comes back in, it warps in, like it's pulling you back in after you momentarily broke away.

its always so interesting to see these breakdowns and to have someone who is actually capable of explaining what theyre hearing and why they like or dislike something is super nice I really do love these holo talents because not only do we get incredible music from them but unlike typical traditional musical artist we get to see so much more of their characters through their streams. With Moonas 1st release good thing I love corn cause i ate all of it up lol its pretty cool how you broke down the choices they made with the music with the music theory behind it. On the 2nd track what more can I say about High Tide its truly one of those moments where you can get a sense of how an artist has grown and come into their own especially she appeared in the 3rd fes to sing it live. Finally with her 3rd song it really evokes that meme of jamming to a foreign song only to find out how messed up it actually is lol even the chorus is just happy Ha Ha Has with a few backing lyrics it really doesnt betray anything unless you know the language/translation or see the video but man is it a funky vibe to jam too

The lore of Moona changed a few times I believe before it became what it is now. The High Tide video basically shows the final concept of her.
Basically Moona is the moon goddess you see in the video, and Hoshinova is the girl that would frequently walk to the coast and pray to the stars. The video shows the battle where Hoshinova potentially dies in the conflict and Moona merges the two together to let her win.
When Moona streams there tends to be two 'voices' she uses, and she uses a much lower voice when she's agitated. She's remarked before that's her 'Hoshinova' voice, but in reality I'm pretty sure that's Moona's goddess voice when she gets irritated.

Parasai Jitu’s message was, in my eyes at least, a very smart one to put behind the song she chose to sing in Indonesian because I’m willing to bet a large majority of her audience doesn’t *speak* Indonesian. (Not to downplay her Indonesian audience, just coming from the thought that hololive as a whole has a very Japanese/English audience that would stumble into her music). When you’re someone like me or you that would just find Moona’s new song and go “ooh groovy” and not necessarily catch the lyrics and message, it’s a great parallel to just catching the “mask” she’s portraying. Amazing stuff.
(Also thank you for reacting to more hololive stuff, I LOVE hearing your more theory sided perspective as a hololive fan who used to take music theory classes)

You should definitely check out more of hololive Indonesia. They have several great groups songs that are each quite different and can give you a good idea of what all the members are like. I'd love to hear your opinion on them, two in particular. The first, "Virtual Medley Lagu Daerah," is a medley of Indonesian folk songs, each one in a completely different indigenous language from the Indonesian archipelago. The second, "Bebas," which translates to "Freedom," is a cover of an Indonesian pop/rap song. Both were produced by the same Indonesian producer who has worked on several other hololive songs, and both were released consecutive years on Indonesia's Independence Day.

She will be dropping an EP! soon-ish (she didn't specify when). It'll probably contain the previous 3 songs but with 2 more new songs added and will be given their own MVs too. Thank you for checking Moona out! I've been following near her debut, and it's really fun watching her from ai no chiisana, then blowing us out of the water with High Tide, and finally giving us Perisai Jitu, which is my current favourite Moona song. I don't understand much about music, but the way you explain them makes me feel like I understand music lol, keep up the great work and musical analysis Ravenclaw!

It’s an awesome combination of acapella sea shanties, folk and pop songs. I have a feeing you might like the vibe. Keep doing what your doing!

Finally, you get to experience Moona's power! Buuuut I'm sure you know that Moona's not the only incredible talent in Hololive ID! If you want a taste of all nine talents in one song, listen to their cover of the song "Bebas" (also i just wanna see your reaction to Kobo's part in particular lol)
    For individual recommendations:
Ayunda Risu should probably be next on the list-- she was one of the King covers you listened to -- because Alice&U is an absolute must-listen in general; also, look for a hidden message in the lyrics 😉
Kobo Kanaeru's musical talent is something special, and I'd LOVE to see you listen to her original song "Mantra Hujan" followed by her cover of "Overdose," just to see your reaction to the contrast.
Kureiji Ollie's "Jollie Jollie" is a personal favorite, mostly because it's so ridiculously wholesome. Also, Ollie did a thing for a RUclips Music Weekend, where she sang half a dozen hololive songs, but she translated them all herself and sang them in Bahasa Indonesia.
Actually.... A bunch of Hololive talents have done stuff for RUclips Music Weekends, and they're all pretty cool. Probably worth a watch even if you don't react to them. Risu's is phenomenal, Moona did one where she sang these three songs, but jazz... Oh, and it would be a solid introduction to Hololive English's VSinger, IRyS. Ooh, and then after you've been introduced to IRyS, you can get into the rest of EN with Myth and Council, and all of their originals and covers, and and and.... okay, maybe I just want to see you react to all of Hololive at this point.
    (but mostly Mumei)

i want to put my 2 cents in for high tide, specifically on the person who dealt with both the music composing and lyrics, zsunder. he's a well known remixer in the orbit space (loona fandom) and as he got more popular, he started making original music inspired by loona and kpop. one of his most popular works in the fandom is the fanmade album they made with a bunch of other artists. I'm guessing what got moona interested in their work was the kda-inspired music they made (it slaps btw go check it out). i remember listening to this song going, huh this sound is familiar, and turns it out, its because i recognized it was zsunder! as of now, they have worked with hyoyeon (a girls generation member) on one of her songs. check them out! they're really fucking good!

Nice review, i did notice the lower quality of her recording of Ai no Chiisana song and the harsh like chorus at first. That's because at the time, being her first single she was using a much inferior mic setup. Only now she's using a more professional setup as heard in Perisai Jitu.

Ai No Chiisana Uta is still one of my favorite hololive songs to this day. Moona had a rough beginning to her career. She was the first and for a long time the only member who did not speak Japanese, which left her feeling isolated from her peers. She was doing well enough finding fans, but it can be hard being on your own. By comedic chance and pure chaos, she became fast friends with Pekora despite the language barrier in one of the most adorable sagas of Hololive lore, the "lapis lazuli give me" story. The words of Ai No Chiisana Uta thank her fans for helping her shine, but I always chose to believe the choice of language was for Pekora. Every time I hear the song I can feel her story again and I cry a little.

is crazy once you get into Hololive and pretty much any singer entertainer Vtuber from big companies and big crowds they all have one or two songs talking about them having to hide their feelings and showing a mask to the crowd.
Ado has this one, Suisei has this one, Moona, Aqua and many more.
is just crazy how they have to share these songs to the audience to give a little message and a reminder that they are showing you what you want to see not what they are or that they are human too and are also flawed and not the perfect being that some make them to be....

I think an interesting touch with the last song is that the laughs sound very fake like you're putting on a facade and force yourself to laugh along with everyone else. It also kind of fits considering it's hard to put an actual real laugh into a song as part of the lyrics, another weird layer of being put into a box and doing what you must to fit the mold, even if the result sometimes doesn't fit what you're actually feeling

Fun Fact : Ari Renaldi(one of the songwriter for perisai jitu and producing for it(is producing different from songwriting???)) is a really well known songwriter in the indonesian community, his songs has a similar vibe? Feeling? It was really familiar first hearing it. Very far away from the hololive sphere, so it was a surprise reading the credits for the song.
I heard most of the people are really well known people too, but i don't have a lot of music knowledge to say it confidently.

Production sometimes involves songwriting. In this case it's quite likely, since the producer is well known for being a songwriter, but often it means they get the base song written by someone else and make decisions about the arrangement, mixing, etc.
The producer is kind of like the director of a film. They are the one with the final say, and the vision for what the end product should sound like, but they also work with the other people involved to achieve that sound.
