How I Organize My Infusion Supplies #PICCLine
Hello GutSquad! I figured I'd give you all a quick inside look at my infusion supplies setup. I've played around with it a lot over the years but this is how I organize my supplies currently. Just a quick note that I didn't mention in the video...I get hydration therapy because I have "dumping syndrome," wherein my ostomy outputs way too much. The infusions help to replenish my fluids and keep me healthy(ish). If any of you have ports, PICCs, Hickmans, etc., please let me know how you like to organize your supplies or if you have suggestions for others out there. I always LOVE reading your comments! Sending you all my love...more videos coming soon. 😉
Thank you all sooooo much for watching...

Home Tour & Halloween Decor - HAPPY #OSTOMYAWARENESSDAY
Просмотров 8723 года назад
Hey GutSquad! Happy ostomy awareness day(one of my favorite days of the year). Today’s video is a little…different. My computer is out of commission for the moment, so I had to use iMovie to edit this one. My normal format/quality will be back soon. Also, this is my first foray into “beyond the bag” content-videos that are more about my life than my life with an ostomy. Please let me know what ...

I also did a wear test with the "duped" tegaderm rings and feel confident recommending th...

Things My Stoma Nurse Never Told Me

Decoding Stoma Shapes
Просмотров 10 тыс.4 года назад
Hello GutSquad! Coming at you with an informative video about the various shapes of stomas, what they mean, and some of their causes. As I mention (ad nauseum) in this video, please consult your surgeon, ostomy nurse, and/or GI if you experience any of the problems I mentioned. They can become very serious if left untreated. Stomas naturally fluctuate in shape/size as you heal after your stoma ...

No stoma nurse will never be qualified unless they have a double ostomy. It's been trial and error for me until the day when I hit the right combination. With short bowel syndrome I can't relax as diet and fluids play a big part of my life now, all the best ostomates.

I can’t figure out how to use the belt that came with the coloplast sample kit. There are no hook on areas on either the one or the 2 piece system.

I am currently an RN and an ileostomy pt. for 7 weeks now. Three things that I think have saved my hide (literally) is, when applying a new appliance: 1. Ensure the skin is clean and dry. 2. 3M Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film (applied after skin has been cleaned and thoroughly dried.) These are great if you’re having trouble with the flange or adhesive adhering to your skin. If you’re wondering, it is my personal and professional opinion, that Hollister’s version of the same product, “Adapt” is inferior. I have used both personally and professionally in my practice. 3. Hydrocolloid dressings that can be cut to fit over the stoma much like an ostomy flange. Then apply your flange over the hydrocolloid dressing. They can be purchased from CVS (store brand)…These can be applied over the 3M Barrier Film and are GREAT to heal and prevent moisture associated skin breakdown at and around the stoma site. These last 2 items are a bit on the “pricey” side if purchased out-of pocket and can be difficult to obtain. If you’re insured, depending on your insurance, your physician can write a script for these items and you can obtain them from your ostomy supplier with a co-pay filed with your insurance. (Coloplast 4x4 hydrocolloid dressings are personally my favorite and are more likely to be obtained from your ostomy supplier. The CVS ones work, too though.) These items are DEFINITELY worth the investment if you’re experiencing that type of moisture associated breakdown that I have on my journey. I hope this helps!

I had an emergency appendectomy, due to severe rupturing of my appendix peritonitis, major infection etc, had to have ileostomy, due to the damage to my colon about six months ago. I've hsd difficulty in the past few months with leakages, skin irritation etc. I have found that quality baby wipes with aloe vera moisturiser are very good for cleaning around my stoma and healing the skin,(also useful for diaper rash on babies). Brands are different here in Australia to the U S, so I can't recommend a particular one.

Kitchen roll in the toilet is a great way of preventing splsh back - it's more robust that toilet paper! And I change my bag in the morning before breakfast, so there's no output - you don't want to eat marshmallows - sugar is very bad for cancer! God bless.

I've been walking a thin line with my Ulcerative Colitis for the past few years and I'm currently on the last drug available to me before operation is the best option (it's been a close call a few times, especially when I was first rushed to hospital). This video has been really helpful in properly understanding the process of things. You can read all you want, but there's nothing like going through it properly with someone else, so thank you for putting this content out there for others like me to help us come to terms with what out life might be soon and how to handle it.
