Loved belt info and tape tip. Dad joined your group in March this year. Nurse did not seem to know much about belt nor how to measure. I took Dad to medical supply company after watching a few RUclipss. The clerk measured his waist. I thought it very odd but he acted like he knew what he was doing. He said that was all he needed. Needless to say, Dad never got the belt. When I called to check on the status he said he had lost order information and wanted me to tell him. Long story short, he said we would have to pay for it first and then they would file insurance. When I asked why he said the manager said they do not make any money off of them. I will find another company. Bless you both.

My ostomy is higher than most. Because of that, I am not allowed to use the stove (heat and plastic are not a good combination). I am also not allowed to get clothes out of the top-loading washer, or lift my dogs, or take the top off of our pool table alone.

Wow! You definitely have more restrictions than most...it's encouraging to meet someone who also deals with strict lifting restrictions. I'm sure you've had to make a lot of tough adjustments since becoming an ostomate. One thing that occurs to me for the stove issue is the use of a stealth belt. I'm not sure if it would work, but a stealth belt might provide the stoma with some extra protection from heat. If you're curious about the belts, here's the link to their website: www.stealthbelt.com/. You can even customize the belts so they will fit your unusual placement. Hope this helps!

I’m newly watching you and your recommendations. I’m so glad I found you. Your so informative and I have had my colostomy bag 2 years and your teaching me things no one took the time to just let me know. I didn’t know about lifting. I’m pretty independent and my husband has a fit when he sees me lifting. I just didn’t want to be useless around our home. He does do most of the grocery shopping because I get wore out bringing them in. Please post more videos about your everyday life. There is more to life than the bag. I try to forget about it occasionally. Take care !

Thank you so much, Fonda! I can completely relate to your situation. My boyfriend is so sweet about my weight limit and insists that I lift nothing at all at home. It can get pretty frustrating to feel so powerless and out-of-control sometimes. Grocery shopping is also a struggle for me, between running around the store, bending down and reaching up to grab what I need, and lifting the bags into my cart, I feel absolutely exhausted by the end of it! Luckily, Trevor helps me with most of those things now. He and I always joke that he's the "muscle" when the clerks at Wegmans try to hand me grocery bags and he takes them instead. I would love to post more videos about my life and plan to do so when the semester ends. You're so right--there is more to life than a bag! You and I are really blessed to have such caring partners who can see past the bag, too.

Thanks so much! I hope the advice proves useful...some of these tips were hard to follow myself. I understand that it's difficult to accept new or worsening limitations on every-day life tasks, but a hospital visit or re-injury will only make life seem more dismal. I'm blessed to have people who are willing to help me, something for which I am so grateful. Trevor was so excited to speak on this topic--I'm really proud of his strength and patience with me through the moving process. And the girls eat plenty! Don't you worry ;)

Please do a follow up on how to pack boxes, suitcases and the like w/o bending. Thanks!

When I get dehydrated, I get an obstruction - it sucks!

Ah yes, the ostomate's greatest vice--hydration. So many of us struggle with staying hydrated. I'm thinking of filming a video dedicated to staying hydrated (especially for those with high-output ostomies) and your comment is just the kick in the ~front~ butt to do so!

LOL! I realized that while editing the video. I think it was just a cosmic coincidence that our outfits happened to match up so perfectly that day....it happens surprisingly often with us. "Bookends" is the perfect way to describe it 😂
