My odor control of choice is baking soda. I've been using it for years in my pouch. I just scoop a little bit in with the end of a flat pouch clip and it does a great job of absorbing any odor, just like when you put an open box of it in the fridge.

Hi Della, thank you so much for sharing this tip! I've personally never heard of this one before but I'll have to give it a shot next time I run out of lubricating deodorant. Sounds really easy and most people probably have baking soda lying around the house.

Definitely gonna try this. I’m so tired of making my family suffer the scent in our tiny house. Idk why I never thought of baking soda but I will absolutely try it!

Hey Cecily, great suggestions! Drinking cranberry juice has always helped to minimize odor for me and I'll definitely try the tic tac method as I always keep some mints around.

I use a few drops of mouthwash, so much cheaper then buying those odor control products

Pepto bismol twice a day will take away ALL the smell. When smell is gone you can stop the Pepto bismol. If smell starts again start the pepto bismol again. The smell usually leaves in 3 or 4 days. This was a real game changer for me.

Hi Mike! Thank you so much for adding this suggestion. I had never heard of it before and will being going out to CVS for Pepto Bismol ASAP so I can try it myself. 😊

@@CecilyLivingBeyondtheBag the very first time I did it, it took about a week to get rid rid of the odor. But since then 2-3 days gets rid of the odor. It's been about 5 years and I've experienced no down side. I average using the pepto bismol about 2 or 3 days a month. Once the strong odor in the beginning is gone it's very easy to control. Best of luck to you and if this can help at least one person I'd be happy. I know how I felt when it worked and I want others to feel the same. Changed my life, I didn't feel like a damaged goods anymore.

My husband has it. I found the blunt effects works but it may leave oily residue on floor.. works well on soft surfaces. I dilute it with alcohol and water and spray it on soft surfaces in the room. Works well

When the new pouch, you can lube that top area with the stoma for stopping the pancake, however, 2,3,4,5…time’s empty out the waste, lub from bottom will not stop the pancake. So it is annoying.
Question : the bag have “ charcoal filter” and it is not meet well with “peppermint “ and your tic-tac is wintergreen flavored, The smell is totally odd with minty and charcoal… ( fiber freshener also unable to cover up that odd smell)
Let me know what your thoughts and appreciate!! Thank you and your super awesome!

I don't know your medical condition maybe that's why your doc said that.
I've had mine for 2 months and I have been eating lots of cooked veggies. I haven't heard about it causing blockage considering veggies usually have good fiber. Just chew your food a lot before you swallow and you shouldn't have a problem. I'm no doctor , just a ileostomate. Salad is my favorite food and I haven't had issues with that either. Wish you well.

I've had mine 40 YEARS, and have found by trial and error foods I either limit or avoid. I can eat raw carrots, but avoid cooked carrots, and I do avoid Brussel sprouts. I can eat popcorn, but if there are a lot of hard kernels I either avoid them, or at home spit them out. I've had multiple surgeries to repair enterostomal hernias, so unfortunately my ileostomy can have a VERY strong odor. My incredible wife of 49 years kindly lets me know when it gets offensive. BTW, I've been able to do virtually every activity throughout my life, including swimming, (1000 yards at a time), snow skiing, international travel, (Israel, Egypt, Europe, Kenya, Greece, DR, and over 40 states in the US. I did lose a good pair of scissors in Eqypt, so you do have to be careful about customs, they can do what they want in some countries.

I've had my ileostomy 4 weeks. I was told low fibre low fat for 6 weeks then bring back fibre a vegetable at a time to see if I tolerate it. I was also told I can eat broccoli tops but not stalks straight away, I have done and have been fine.

I was a medical provider and those ostomy patients young & old, ALL stink. They come from different races, genders & backgrounds and that smell doesn't stop. There is no preventing or masking it. These people are delusional if they think tic-tacs will help it. They need to STAY HOME!

    • @solangelalebron1348

@@michelebreen1705 Diaper genie just traps the smell inside that vial. So when you open it, the garbage stinks. It's not like a toilet where you just flush the poop down and then submerge the dirty cloth diaper in water with strong enough chemicals like vinegar and lime to kill bacteria. You're living a delusion. Diaper Genie stinks inside until you get rid of those garbage bags.
