The first time I heard the prototype name "Doom: Year Zero". My expression was like 😳! I think Dark Ages, albeit a bit generic, is a much better name. But what would've sounded even better would've been "Doom Zero". A part of me wonders if that would've actually have been the name if it wasn't for my WAD. But the other part of me is also like: id Software could've still called it Doom Zero if they really wanted to, regardless of some fan made mod. So who knows.

Question: I don't currently have a CRT monitor, just a pretty good CRT TV next to my desk. I don't think Windows can output 240p anymore, right? In which case, is my best bet to get a downscaler (e.g. Extron Emotia) and use it on an output of 640x480 if I want to display emulated retro games on the CRT TV?

5:25 unfortunately not really. These cheap adapters work well for any 17" but will bottleneck some 19" and most higher end 21" plus monitors that can achieve big refresh rate and resolution ( 1920×1440, 2048×1536...) I'm using a Sunix dpu3000 but you can find the Synaptics VMM2322 chip in other adapters like the ICY BOX or the Delock. Nice video tho, good job!

I found a new sweet spot for modern games on my Dell E770s: 1280x800 at 85 Hz. It's more legible than 1024x768 while also being buttery smooth. A lot of modern games have small text that doesn't scale well. Sometimes I just want the full screen so I play at 1200x900 at 75 Hz or 1280x960 at 70 Hz.

I grew up with Valve, so I simply stick with CTRL to crouch and E to interact with the environment. I never had a game that demanded weapon switching with leaning capabilities. I remember System Shock having leaning mechanics but nothing that demands rebinding keys over. And then my controls are based on the typical situations. My lower row keys have weapons effective in close quarters. Then for flurry/gatling type weapons: F and G respectively. 1 and 2 the starting/last-resorting melee/ranged weapons. R for railgun... then everything else has exceptions (and for some bizarre reason I have Q3's machinegun bound to Q) My list: 1 - Gauntlet (UT: Impact hammer) 2 - Enforcer 3 - Bio-rifle 4 - Grenade launcher Q - Machinegun (UT: Translocator) R - Railgun (Sniper rifle) F - Plasma gun (Q2: Hyperblaster, UT: Pulse rifle) G - Chain gun (UT: Minigun) X - Shotgun (UT: Rocket launcher) C - Rocket launcher (Flak cannon) Z - Lightning gun V - BFG10K (UT: Redeemer)

Did yall know God's Son Jesus Christ Died On The Cross and Rose Again From The Dead out of The Tomb on The 3rd Day. He Died for Everyones Sins even Mine. He Paid the Horrible Price we should have Paid. But He Paid it So We Would Have A Way into Heaven. if We Repent for Our Sins and Believe in Him and Serve Him and Obey Him. So I Encourage Those We Are Living In The Last Days I Encourage Anyone Not Saved Now Its the Time To Repent And Live For The Lord Before Its To Late and God's Final Judgment Comes. After you accept Jesus Christ into your heart and you Repent for Your Sins Your Name Gets Written Down in The Lamb's Book Of Life. and You Gotta Continue to Serve the Lord and Repent for Your Sins all the days of your life until Jesus comes back to call His Church home. Because No Ones Perfect we all Sin. but we need to Not Willfully Sin. and i will admit i have willfully sinned multiple times and I feel Guilty About it So I Repent we Were Made sinners because of Adam And Eve. but we dont need to Sin on Purpose. But We Sin All The Time Because we Humans get Angry and hurt people. and Are Hateful toward people when God commands us to Love Our Neighbors. and Pray for Our Enemies. there is all kinds of Sins. We Are Allowed to Be Frustrated at Peoples Actions. Without getting Angry and injuring People and breaking Stuff. Or Name Calling thats Wrong to. Heaven And Hell Are Real... and after Jesus Christ comes back and calls His Church home. Alot of people will be left behind because of being to caught up with the world and not believing in God. and other stuff And During that time the Anti Christ will reveal himself and Lie to People and Say Hes Jesus Christ. and he will try and Deceive the ones in Israel. and in turn Try and And Deceive the Entire World. and he will try to force People to Receive a Chip in their Right Hand or Foreheads. The Anti Christ hasn't Revealed Himself yet Though. and If you havent noticed they are trying to push for digital currency but we dont know who the Anti Christ Is. Only the ones left behind will know unless people make things right with GOD. Revelation 20:11 KJV And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. Revelation 20:12 KJV And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. Revelation 20:13 KJV And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. @mariusz76a Like with manual transmissions in sports cars, it's never gonna replace automatics. Some people can't stand manual. Some people can't stand CRTs. And that's OK. My CRTs dont replace my LCDs. And I'm not telling anyone to do that. But there's a large community that would hate it if CRTs just disappeared. Petrol-heads need their "fix", and we need ours. It's not a fad, it won't die as fast as an actual fad like fidget spinners. Eventually both CRTs and Manuals will disappear due to old things breaking. That's why we try to enjoy it while it lasts.

You were doing so well with the technical explanation of things... Then you failed to debunk black frame insertion... "I don't like it", isn't an objective argument against it's effectiveness. There are plenty of reasons not to like LCD aside from this, but I'm not about to go out and buy a bulky CRT any time soon. I've used CRT monitors, Crt Rear Projection, and Crt front projection, they have a few things in common, they suck overall. They never produce as sharp an image as the supported resolution would suggest, due to limited dot pitch. They never produce clean fine detail contrast due to inability to hold contrast in mixed light/dark content, they go out of calibration in shipping/after a few years use and require internal tweaking to re-align. The have their place, for specific content, but they suck for general use. I'd get an old 3d plasma if you want most of the benefits @ 120hz without nearly so many draw backs. Yeah people will complain "a tv isn't a monitor" as though they aren't spouting common sense, but those same people also have never actually owned a plasma and have no clue how they operate internally. If you wanted a big "crt like" low input lag display ~ 2011 that supported 120hz, had perfect viewing angles/contrast uniformity and actually had decent overall contrast (even with mixed content), you got yourself a 3d plasma and called it a day. They also had a built in flicker to fix the motion problem, albeit somewhere between 300-600 hz rather than 60 hz. This misconception that CRT's are anything like OLED needs to stop, OLED has far superior mixed contrast ability, which is what makes all those fine details really pop out at high resolution. If anything Plasma is much closer to OLED, despite the lower overall contrast. About the only benefit I agree with here is the built in anti aliasing on CRT, but it's not like it's "good" anti aliasing compared to what we have now via DLAA. It's more like FXAA, where it makes low resolution content look less like complete garbage, at the cost of reduced detail.

@user-eh1vp3ev3c the reason why I felt you didn't watch the video is because, later in the video, I said that displays like the OLED, apart from motion clarity, is vastly superior in almost everyway possible when compared to a CRT.

@@GTXDash I thought you said you had covered BFI? So which is it? If you're saying CRT is roughly on par with OLED in regards to motion clarity (with BFI enabled), then sure I can agree with that. That's assuming you play at a low enough res to actually be able to use a high refresh rate on CRT. That wasn't really my point though, even LCDs are viable with BFI, you don't have to spend Oled money to get a good monitor that isn't a CRT. there are way more factors than just "fluidity"! there are many technologies, LCD, LED, OLED, MiniLED, MicroLED, Quantum dot, Plasma, Laser TV, CRT, DLP... and that's not even considering projectors! each has their own strength and weaknesss! one feature that affected the victory of LEDs and LCDs very much, was the "Power Consumption"! a CRT tv it could draw upto 300W and those bad boys didn't have any type of power management and power savings! that's 300W all the time! LED tvs at most maybe draw 70W and with modern energy conserving technologies it could draw as little as 10W! there are many many other factors! LEDs generally have more than twice the lifespan compared to CRTs! just saying ow CRTs are more "fluid" doesn't paint the whole picture!

I don't know, my backup battery is rated for 200watts. it depends how new the model is, it's size, the manufacturer, etc. There are a thousand things I could've covered but I ended up removing a lot of the stuff in the writing phase of the making of this video and decided to focus purely on CRTs, All the different types of flat panels is beyond the scope of the video, however none of these displays come close to the motion clarity of a CRT, including Plasma. I think Plasma is a good approximation of the capabilities of CRT without the heft and weight of a CRT. But ironically, LCDs have even replaced plasma in most cases, and CRTs are easier to get your hands on than a Plasma that's in good working condition. Also, I don't agree that CRTs cant last as long as LEDs. I have a Philips CRT TV that is 35 years old that still works. Did absolutely no maintenance. But because it's so old it does use more power. However, power really isn't an issue, especially with CRT monitors since my PC uses over twice that during load/gaming on a hi refresh rate LCD, and a CRT ironically forces my PC to use less power because I don't need to run at such a high FPS since motion blur is not a thing even at 60hz/60FPS. So yeah, you're kinda right, but it's more nuanced than that.

My dad was repairing CRT TV's and monitors, so I see many different models and pictures. When LCD start taking over, I never understand why people were changing from CRT to LCD. Picture quality was so much worse but people just did not care. Thanks to my dad, I have 4 CRT Tv's saved.

The main 'latency' of an CRT is the time the phosphor needs to illuminate, so there is nothing that has no latency, but it's pretty much instant compared to any kind of digital image transfer.

So what analog signal are you using with your CRT? 🤔👍

I like to do 75 Hz at 1200x900 instead of 72, though 70 Hz at 1280x960 is just snappy enough to not be a flickering mess. I had run 1024x768 at 85 Hz for the longest time but found that legibility in some games is important so I cranked the resolution.

LCD look like sh/t when they first came out, I remember we got a 17" model, the color was very washed out, and contrast is like 500:1, not even know how much hz it was. and it cost A LOT, cuz it was new tech back in 2000.
