      @@hikeskool I know this is a late reply but in case you haven't gotten an answer yet, the N64 port is enjoyable for what it is, but as it's a direct port, you can feel many hiccups (extremely small levels for example). The new MachineGames expansion is enjoyable as well, with my gripes about it being more on the minute gameplay side of things (like an over reliance on throwing a million mutants at you). If you wished to have the enemy count and objective based story/gameplay of the Q2 expansions but the out and out power fantasy of baseq2 with a bit of Quake 1 story and theme tie ins, the new expansion is going to be your cup of tea.

    God I love Nightdive Studios! They have to be up there currently as one of my favorite gaming studios because not only do they remaster some old and sometimes forgotten games, they go above and beyond! They could've easily just give the games a shiny new coat of paint, put it out and call it a day. But no. They do So much more. It's not just the updated Graphics, Sounds etc... that get a nice upgrade, it's also the added content they include to make the game a more complete experience. And that's including cut content that I didn't even know about so seeing those things being implemented is just awesome. I've really enjoyed Nightdive's remasters of Shadow Man, Turok 1 and 2, Quake 1 and 2, and now with the recent announcement of Turok 3, I'm 1 very happy camper lol. Can't wait to see what else they decide to bring back.

Whereas Dark Forces I remember playing it years ago for a like 10 minutes I think. Not cause it was bad or anything. I was just in the middle of trying out all the different Star Wars games at the same time cause I got the Humble Bundle for it, and I just ended up not playing more of it lol.@@GTXDash

    1:10 the whole nonsense around hating the old and "bad" Graphics is just coonsumer brain rot typically for the average gamer these days.
    If an aesthetic is clearly readable ,consistent and
    Has all the essential details then it has good graphics.
    But the problem with newer gamers is that old school FPS navigation is too much for the average coonsumer with intelligence equivalent to the lobotomized strogg.

    • @todesziege
      @todesziege 11 месяцев назад +1

      It gets even worse, because modern games are frequently absolutely terrible when it comes to being readable.

    • @necrosteel5013
      @necrosteel5013 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@todesziege exactly what I have noticed too, there are cases where readability is purposeful obscured for gameplay function and risk factor.
      But modern games don't usually do that and thus the readability being poorer is a detriment.

  • @SuperFriendBFG
    @SuperFriendBFG 11 месяцев назад +2

    The Bot Support, as you perhaps alluded to is a big one. The bots can be loaded in co-op games, by the way, so you can run through the entire game with friendly bots following you around, and they will follow for the most part. That latter feature though, it is not officially supported, was something they included for fun. That being said the tools to modify the bot waypoints are built right into the game, so you can do so as you find issues with bot pathing. Use the "addbot" command (without quotes) in the Console.
    The Scanline filter is actually incredibly customizable, you can do so with a series of console commands. I don't know them by heart, sadly.

    • @phalxor
      @phalxor 11 месяцев назад

      if we are discussing unsupported features you can play with 31? bots if you change the maxclients command which i think technically supports up to 32 players although you can set it to something wild like 255 and it will show up like that in the server browser. there are also built in commands for allowing the downloading of custom maps models sounds and the like so I would hope for mod support at some point also

    • @SuperFriendBFG
      @SuperFriendBFG 11 месяцев назад

      @@phalxor Oh yeah, there's probably quite a few small little "unsupported" features. I think what that really means is if you choose to increase player counts and such, you may not be able to play with crossplay enabled, which is completely fair.

    @zander2758 4 месяца назад +1

    Quake 2 remaster is really cool, one of the features they also added is the improved enemy AI and new map sections, quake 2 had some things scrapped due to time constraints and they brought it back for the remaster and its great and those features made me like quake 2 quite a bit more, features i don't like can just be turned off in the menus or with console commands which is good to see.

  • @NeilAC78

    The main issue with this remaster is they failed to do more with primary part of the Q2 experience - the online multiplayer. They should have provided dedicated servers for DM, dual, 4x4, CTF, and plus some of the classic mods like CTF, Lithium, Rocket Arena etc. Bethesda could have easily spun up a bunch of dedicated VM's with server mods across the continents and then gradually run off the less utilized ones. Poor planning.

    Hey! Good video! I agree that playing the Quake's is much better than AAA games nowadays. Quake 3 is the perfect arena shooter and I'm very happy with the Q2 remaster. But you forgot the best part: It's on console, supports mouse and keyboard and it's crossplatform! THAT's AWESOME! No Windows needed, no Steam or any of this crap that PC sadists enjoy. Just a console, a keyboard and a mouse. Simple as it should be.

      To me, Call of the Machine (the new campaign) I think is better than vanilla Q2 and is quite a different experience with far greater amounts of enemies with more elaborate maps. Its very Doom-like in that regard. Q2 64 however is the opposite. It's simpler than even the original set of maps in some ways. There is a problem.
    Unlike the PC version, the Console version lacks the *"Always Run"* enable/disable setting, forcing players to play the Campaign and Local MP at breakneck speeds.
    When the game first came out, I put it in disabled because I thought the running speed was too high.
    We're testing the latter playing in 2-Player Split Screen, and being forced to move at such high speeds makes for an experience that's quite jarring. 😟

      I don't think ive ever turned off run. I guess its more needed for controllers.

      @@GTXDash Just needed that setting to be available so I could slow things down. Don't understand why it's missing on Consoles.

    I'm having a blast playing brutal Doom or project brutality with various free map packs. It blows modern AAA games out of the water, and it doesn't turn my PC into a radiator.
    I'd rather give a few bucks to the modders who made these games than give EA a cent.

    Nah, quake 2 sucks balls, it did back then when I first played it and it still does now. Try Duke Nukem 64, it's arguably better than Duke 3D, THAT game was fun, Quake gets old fast.
