    Reminds me of the old days of teleporting and dodging everywhere, asmd combos and getting 8 balled out of existence. All newer games don't seem to have the same feel and satisfaction that unreal does. Very customisable and non stop action.

    Nice overview! It's worth noting that Deck in UT99, UT3 and UT4 still had jump boots to make it out the acid pit, although yeah, you just can't beat Deck-17 from 2K4. :3

      Jump boots in UT99 kinda sucked because while equipped with the boots you couldn't jump normally unless you wanted to jump 3 stories. I'm glad they fixed this in UT3 by having it only activate with a double jump.

      @@GTXDash Yeah, UT99 jump boots were pretty dated for its time, so I can at least appreciate how UT3 handled them. If absolutely nothing else, there's always translocators and piston jumps to help get you around lol.

    Unreal Tournament 3 has some tricky movement techs that allow you to do some of these jumps, you kind of can wall jump and kind of can double jump, by specifically doing both, if your collision hull is colliding with world geometry you can dodge in the other side of the angle you courently have, so frome front, 180 turn, shallow attack, shallow nounce forward, you can then press space again in mid air to kill your forward momentum to get some extra vertical momentim, takes some getting used to but allows some cool traversal you couldn't in UT99, the sides of small ramps do count, you can bounce off of scafoldings, elevators, guard rails, rubbles, window frames, ETC, if you physically can bump into it, you can bounce off of it.
    Unreal Tournament 4 had both removed, replaced and improved on it, you had Modern Warfare 2019's crouch slide with a sort of long jump short hop you could do out of it which you could chain into more faster crouch slides, like in Apex Legends, you had a nerfed version of DooM 2016's clamber for slightly failed crouch jumps, a Mirror's Edge style wall run you could chain, just like the OG ME, you had the Halo 2 beta "sprint" where running forward in a straight line gave you a speed boost, which you could then kinda gear shift by dodging forward, a mechanic that got added to Quake Champion's Clutch as he's a refferance to Xan, the 2K4 double jump had returned and you could dodge out of a wall run. UT4's movement was neat and good players could basically parkour up to anywhere from anywhere, pro dueling sometimes looks like what could be Mirror's Edge Deathmatch.

    The only reason deck 17 has a jump pad is because the entire game didn't have jump boots.
    Once jumps boots were reintroduced, there was no reason to keep that jump pad in particular.
    The boots give you more freedom anyway. You can jump anywhere instead of just that one pad.

      Yeah. That makes sense. I guess the reason why I prefer deck17 is because the boots are limited to how often and how many people can use it any given time.

    You forgot the jump boots added in UT99. In 2004, there are no jump boots, ergo, there is a jump pad instead.

      Yep. But a jump pad is always there, for convenience.

    If you hold the alt fire button WHILE charging up rockets, it gives you an alternation on the rocket fire pattern

      Yeah I know. I almost exclusively use the spiral pattern mode.

    You can assign weapons to other keys. Used to have Flak on Q and Shock gun on E, for example.

      What I mean is cannot bind the flak cannon to 3 or shock rifle to 2

    Is the Deck 16 of both Unreal Championship games the same as the version from the 2004 edition? I think not many people talk about those games. Also, the version from Unreal Tournament 4 looks like some early Doom Snapmap.

      Yeah. It's unfortunate that UC2 only got a release on Xbox. UC1 is just a console port of 2003 which didn't have a Deck map variant. And as far as I can tell, neither did UC2

    QCDE has a deck and deck 17 map ;) (a quake champion doom mod with UT weapons addon :p )

    9:08 Try to use "setres 1920x1080" console command. This is should be work in any unreal engine game, I think.

    I made DmDeck16_v2.unr,
    keeping original I added some brushes from DM-Deck16][,
    many pathnode fixes,
    added jumpboots,
    added portal with trap laser,
    added Amplifier (UDamage) replaced from Redeemer (UT99).
    In the original map it was not completed by the author,
    so I took care of completing Deck16_v2 (Unreal1)

    IIRC in UT3 you have to use Impact Hammer to jump from platform to main area.

      Yeah, I'm not a fan of losing health just to get to a ledge that's a few feet away. However, later I realised that I should've used The Impact Hammer to get to the Damage Amplifier rather than rocket jump. So it definitely has its traversal uses.

    In UT3 you should use the boot to do the same you did in UT2k4. The jump pad was not there to make the boots important and a meaningful item to get. Otherthing is that UT3 was designed to be much more grounded then 2k4 that's why they removed the dodge double jump. Also you aren't using wall dodge to get from the bridge to the other side. You can wall dodge the ramp and get to the door way connecting to the rocket.

      Damn, you're right. I remember doing it all the time in UT99 many years ago and it just never occurred to me to do it again in UT2004. 🤦‍♂️

      And dead ends or weapon placements dont actually matter that much. At least not at the time when we played the original tournament with modem. If you had good reaction times you can actually win everything there is. We used to play on German clan serveer back at the time and we were always 2 of the top even though i was always second because i lovbed flak cannon and mostly me killing myself awarded me with most suicides in every map. Flak cannon was fun but careless use was even more laugh and fun :D

      2004 is an update of 2003. And 2003 didn't have Deck16/17.

    The art-style of UT3 ruined the deck, which is part of a spaceship in its origins.

      Not really an "art-style" problem, more like a change in the maps location. UT4 would've brought back the OG deck but... yeah. Epic kinda killed a game that still has a huge fanbase.
