    Highly recommend Midsommarkransen, Telefonplan, Hägerstensåsen, Aspudden if you want close proximity to the city center and cultural life (lots of cafés and local artists in these areas, also multiple cinemas, theaters and parks). If you're looking for a slightly bigger flat then Blackeberg or Bagarmossen are perfect for families, with lots of nature.

    Interesting what you mentioned about food, when I grew up sometimes neighbours would bring out tables, and everyone brought food, and we ate from everything. So it may just be a local thing. Although I don't see neighbours celebrating together that often anymore, maybe if you live in houses and people know eachother well, which was the case when I grew up. But back then the naive swedes didn't always lock their doors cause nothing ever happend.

    I'm swedish, my honest opinion is that midsummer eve should be our national day. It's almost like a christmas celebration but it is in the summer with your community. 6th of june is quite new, and it's like "what should I do? Maybe hang out with the family and eat something unhealthy". To me midsummer is more about the nature, community etc, to me it feel a lot more like something that should be our national day. We hang out, drop our rationality, jump around frogs etc. It's honest and a bit naive. When I speak to friends I know from other countries that have participated with us, they're like "what have you been smoking?!", but they still participate and laugh.

    Midsummer probably is the Swedish holiday that have the most following counting all age.groups. Yule may win among children, parents and older people, but not by much. And the group left, teenager and young adults midsummer wins out by a lot. When young Swedes start to get more interested in partying and the other sex than family the fact that midsummer in its core is a fertility rite starts to hit home.

      In US Prom or Valentines day may be the best time to get laid, in Sweden it is midsummer. From we started counting centuries ago until last decade, the month most kid was born (during a decade single years sometimes differed) always was March (nine months after midsummer). And I thing the change probably have moire to do with better contraceptives and awareness than in behavioral change.

    Okey.. another "swedish concept" to learn.. and that is "knytkalas".. I think its more common out in the countryside.. becuse I did spend many years of my youth on a farm! In anyway, those farmers lived a distance frome each others.. but they liked to attend typical swedish festivitys! Like in good old days, when they meet there spouse! In anyway it was "knytkalas", bring your own food and and the "farmers comunity" did the rest! Another concept that is "normal" in sweden.. bring your own wine/beer/alcohol, to a party.. especialy if one is young.. becuse any alcohol in sweden is f''''ing expensive! There is more going on in the "swedish mindset".. one of this is "debt of gratitude".. its kinda work different.. its kinda people avoid you/your party, becuse they think they cant "pay back" by invite you to there own celebrations/parties!! It still trickle down to how much one know each other.. its kind of the same as in Stoneage. mothers talk to each others and the males get to be football coaches for there kids team.. especialy if they is born in UK!

    • @Gelis8
      @Gelis8 2 дня назад

      I don't know if I'm misunderstanding what you're writing. But at "knytkalas", you bring your own food and offer your food to everyone. Other guests do the same so it becomes a buffet for everyone. If you bring your own food to yourself and do not invite others for the food and other guests do the same, it is not a "knytkalas". But as you wrote in the countryside, so-called "logdans" are usually organized by the farmergroup and there you usually bring your own food just for yourself, but for example the comunity arranges music and the barn etc etc.

      @@Gelis8 We can probably discuse "knytkalas", "logdans", "farmers festivitys", "garden parties".. and having a party with close or new friends! Anyway there is a pletora of combinations.. its like you said some is.. bring somthing to the party, for all to share.. those is often close friends and/or neighbours! The problem for foreginers is then to know wich sort of invitation one did get?

    For every midsummer I have ever been too (I'm over 50), someone organizes but do not actually make all the food beyond some of the basics like bread. Instead everyone attending gets to bring a different dish or snacks to complete the whole feast. And that goes for the lunch as well as in the evening. And then everyone shares. Usually the only thing people bring for themselves is the alcohol. Which is almost always the case in Sweden since it's expensive :)

      @@LivingSwedish It enriches your celebration to know and feel the ties back in history, and know why you celebrate, I feel atleast. I think both Germany and the UK has Maypoles, but actually in May? It's a little different here though. I won't go on about it, my tip is to visit Nordiska museet on Djurgården if you haven't already. It too belongs to the swedish people, just like Skansen does and they have a permanent exhibit about our holidays and their history. (Should be digital guides in multiple languages.) Those two places does teach a lot about Sweden, it's history, people etc. The people working there are great to ask too. There are lots more to do and see there too of course. I don't know how much you and the family likes museums, but I think it's really nice. 😊

    Hej Uli. Jag har aldrig hört talas om detta beteende. vi har alltid delat maten och även spriten och drickat. Detta är någon nymodighet p.g.a pandemin och de stigande priserna, Om man skall göra på det viset men då kan man säga eller skriva det i inbjudan att det är( Knytkalas) detta innebär att man står för egen förning (mat). Jag skulle personligen skämmas om jag gjorde något dylikt. att inte bjuda mina gäster. Skulle man mot all förmodan tvingas till att göra på detta sätt skulle jag hellre dela notan . Ungdomar brukar medföra eget och det är ju naturligt eftersom de oftast inte har ett arbete och går i skolan. Knytkalas har funnits i evigheter och innebär att du medför något till bordet , precis som spanjorernas tapas luncher eller middagar. var och en köper en rätt ställer på bordet och alla tar av allt dricker och har kul. Knytkalas brukar bero på liten kassa eller att vederbörande värd inte har möjlighet eller tid att laga all mat. Är det t.ex. kräftskiva kan man bestämma ett visst märke på kräftorna för att tillagning mm skall bli lika , en del kanske köper Jumbo och andra tusenbröder. Jag blir förfärad av att se att de bjuder in gäster oftast utländska som inte vet och förstår kulturen och lämnar dem därhän. På sådana kalas har vi i min krets alltid satt värd och värdinna nära sådana gäster för att kunna förklara saker ,seder och bruk och vara allmänt behjälplig, att lämna sådana gäster för sig själva i en bordsände och inte bry sig är skamligt och okultiverat. Oftast gör man upp vilken som ansvarar för nästa års kalas och då har man tid för planering av allt. Är jag så snål att gästerna äter prinskorv och jag själv grillat då ska jag inte ta på mig att vara värd, Svenskar är ett givmilt och kultiverat folk , inte ett grottfolk Hoppas jag rätat ut en del frågetecken åt er.Mvh:KJ.

    Do Swedes think it would have been the same in Sweden 100 years ago? I mean I have never been to Sweden. But I have a theory - perhaps completely wrong - that people in the West are generally just more socially lazy without even realizing it due to the comforts of modern life. It may have been that 100 years ago people were more interdependent and more sociable out of necessity and its not as necessary to be sociable and make friends nowadays. Obviously, there weren't people travelling around the world to such a great extent as todays and there are obviously differences in people's personality from one nation to another; but i hear often that in one country or another its hard to make friends - how do we know it is nothing innately cultural but just social laziness and other demographic reasons (such as smaller families, etc). And I am not judging anyone, I am no better in this respect than anyone.

    I disliked most of the fancy house new houses because they lacked character. The exception is the Gotland house which had “his and hers” bathtubs; the plan was unique (uhhh maybe the drawbridge was too unique 😆 ) but the fixtures where high-end and well placed by a designer and architect. The Gothenburg house looked like it was designed for new money, American taste (very common here in Los Angeles and very barf 🤮 ). I would like for you do a video list with median-priced homes $200 to 800k homes. IF YOU’RE SWEDISH AND READING THIS: PLEASE STOP PAINTING YOUR INTERIORS WITH INSTITUTION GREY AND TITANIUM WHITE 🤪😘

    The comments here talk more about similarities between Sweden & Germany than differences, in the sense that both people focus on petty matters and both people care so much about alcoholic beverages, notwithstanding the fact that things are organised differently in each country. In my own experience, the biggest difference is that Germany, as a State, is super-bureaucratic, following more or less the same patterns as Greece, my home counry, renown for its nightmarish bureaucracy, where Sweden is probably the least bureaucratic place that I have even been to. Also, the Swedish "uppfostran" to never bother and not invade others is quite unique and I miss it when I travel to other countries. However, with mass immigration in recent decades, the "new Swedes" now dominating city life in places like Stockholm, that fine principle is for ever gone, I am afraid...

    So basically, for a non college educated 45 year old man with a 6,000 USD pension would basically have to hit the nightclub as soon as he arrives and ask the first woman that he sees to marry him and have a child with him just so that he can find a place to live..🤔

    I love these videos ❤. All these houses were too big and bland and bleak furnishings 🤢

    Nice vlog...Wow 3 Yrs! Congratulations I hesitate to bring this subject up because your videos are positive with pleasentries and very informative ... but unless you live under a rock ...the global news and on RUclips, there's frequent reporting about Sweden having a serious a gun violence problem. If you care to share info, l just want to ask you is it rampant? or is it contained, or confined within the so-called no go zones? Does it spill out and /or is it a problem for all communities? Where is all this violence happening ? They're saying the problem is the worst in the EU..What happened??? Many vloggers on sm, who chat about moving to Sweden, paint a picture of mostly idyllic living and rarely address this topic. I hope it's get fixed... I hope you and family get to remain in SE. BTW!... I picked up quite a good bit of Swedish watching the reality series Wahlgrens Värld🎉 Allow that show to become white noise as you work etc .. 😂

      Thanks for your questions! I once talked about it in one of my videos ("The Dark Side of Sweden") 7 months ago. When it comes to a realistic view, I only know about it from the news. The problems are there and need to be addressed but the reality is still an idyllic life (most of the time). It doesn't make sense to talk about it a lot and spread fear and negativity. And it wouldn't be realistic for my life. This is where I can contribute ;) Hope that helped a little!
