Thanks to @raygorley9797 for pointing out my mistake for the formula used in the Blue channel when compositing the final image. It should be B Q*(HaCS-med(HaCS))*.2 not R Q*(HaCS-med(HaCS))*.2. I've corrected it below. In this video, we'll dive into the powerful technique of adding H-alpha (Ha) data to RGB images of galaxies using continuum subtraction in Siril. I pre-ordered mine a few weeks back and hope to see it around the new year (hopefully). I am looking forward to this unit for my "travel scope" away from my suburban city lights. Thanks for this video. It showed me what it's capable of for scenery pics. Looking forward to your follow-up video when you finally get some good nights. Cheers!
Yup...AI De-Noise does not work on Win 10. Errors out every time. Will try my Win 11 machine
It's supported on Win10. What's the error you're seeing?
Excellent video, Very looking forward to this version. Do we know when it will be released? maybe next year?
There's no announced date. We all just have to wait and see. Thanks!
Wow! Great feature! One question: with Deconvolution now available in GraXpert, what would be the "proper" workflow? Should I run Crop, Background Extraction, and Deconvolution in GraXpert, then move to Siril for PCC, StarNet removal, and GHS to adjust the background image with proper saturation? After that, should I return to GraXpert for denoising (linear data) and finish with star recomposition in Siril (or Photoshop)? What do you think of this workflow? Before GraXpert's Deconvolution feature, I used to run Siril's Deconvolution right after PCC.
I use GraXpert to run BGE, Decon, and then Denoise. Then jump in Siril for PCC, star removal, stretching, and then add back the stars. That's just my process though. FYI, all 3 functions in GraXpert should be ran while the data is still linear, not stretched. You can do it after stretching if you want though. It's just the recommendation. In the end, do whatever gives you the results you like.
Well done!
Thank you!
I use a one shot color camera and my emission nebulae all come out looking red, from the hydrogen alpha. I do EAA with no post processing. I see a lot of folks make beautiful works of art. Someone online told me that astrophotography is photographing something that cannot be seen. This looks very interesting. I may try it.
Best ever workflow video on this process! Well Done!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks!
damit we lost rich
🤣 Nope I'm still here!
I'm getting an error message for each partial of "cannot perform debayering on image with more than one channel." These are VLC extractions from a 2 minute video of the Moon. Any pointers?
This script isn't for solar system objects. You can either try manually with Siril ruclips.net/video/OyAmOKCTGLc/видео.html, or a better fit would be AutoStakkert
@@DeepSpaceAstro Thanks for putting up with a newbie comment. I'm learning fast, thanks in large part to you.
You are fantastic! I'm just getting into Astrophotography and you are fantastic! I'm learning so much from you!!
Glad to hear the videos are helpful! Thanks!
PRO-TIP - use 0.5X playback speed when working along with the video!
The thing that worries me the most about this kind of device is that you're dependent on an app from the manufacturer to use it. Which means that when it comes to retaining support for your device in the future, you're dependent on the manufacturer's _perpetual_ good will and continued existence. Now, with ZWO, I'm not too worried for the near to mid future; they've been around for a while, and it doesn't look like they're on their way out. Then again, neither did Orion/Meade. But eventually, support will drop. At some point perhaps the app will no longer be updated, and with Android's ever changing app policies, be dropped from the app store for non-compliance. Or perhaps ZWO goes bankrupt or bought out for their IP, with the new owners not interested in supporting the existing products. You know, like what happened to Pebble when they got bought out by Fitbit back in 2016. So eventually, this will become e-waste, due to depending on an ecosystem that won't be around forever, and on the continued efforts of a party that only invests in the app because it helps sell the hardware. What happens when they discontinue this line of hardware? Seen this sort of thing far too often lately. If it requires an app, and it doesn't have an open protocol so that the community can create their own apps, you're just renting it for an uncertain amount of time, for a one-time fee.
Seestar_alp already exists.
great Vid, thanks Rick from downunder
Thanks!
Thanks!
Thank you!
Great first look! The guest most should be super helpful for star parties. Project it to a bunch of iPads or something. Object tracking is also cool, I haven't had a chance to test it out, I live near an Airport so I want to see if it can track fast moving airplanes or if I'm going to kill the motors.
Thank Naz! Wow didn't even think about star parties and guest mode! Great idea!
I have a skywatcher pro2i with a 70ed svbony refractor and modified dslr. I was thinking of upgrading to the skywatcher gti or seestar but leaning towards the gti. I think I would get bored of the seestar too soon...
hours of data with a hyperstar runnging at F2. That is a lot of data with the super low F value. I have a Gen 4. I bought it a few years ago. but i have been so sick my astrophotograph hobby has not gone anywhere. Hopefully I will finally get to use it soon. Depends on my condition. soon, I hope.
Sorry to hear that... Hope you get back on your feet soon and are able to put that HyperStar to good use!
Hi Rich, i used Siril some years ago and it’s first time I have seen something like that. IT IS so fantastic Thank you very much for your video. And all others of course
You are very welcome! Thanks!
Hi again Question I have noticed that it says deconvolution object only Does it mean stars are not deconvoluted ?
That's correct. I believe they're working on another AI model for deconvoluting the stars.
@ It was sharpened the for sure My question if is all about sharpening Can’t we do the same thing on Ps Or on graxpert prevent the noise as sharpening?
I've just got a see star and typically stack via autostakarrt, sequator etc. Siril has always seemed so hard but you've just saved me a lot of stress. Thank you 😊
Happy to hear it helped! Thanks!
Wow, well done! Fantastic tutorial! Thank you.
Thanks!
Sorry for being so curious, I'm a BMW engineer😊
Not only planetary!!!! Perfect for DSO!
Quick question. What preprocessing script options do we have in siril, once multiple sessions are stacked through sirilic?
Nothing changes if you stack with SiriLic. Process the image as you would if you stacked in Siril.
I have learned so much with so much more to go. One question I do have is, when I Siril process a fit file and get it to look like what I want then save as jpg, it looks the same as the fit. However, when I save as a tiff file, normal or astro, the photo is way too bright and I have to reprocess in a photo editing program, lowering darks, lights and slight increase on contrast. It happens on every tiff I create... WHY??? Am I doing something wrong? I am saving as 32 bit tiff. Could that be the culprit?
Yep. Save it as 16-bit and you should be good.
Thanks for continuing to bring us updates on the latest free tools, such as this. As one who only very occasionally explores the imaging side of astronomy, it doesn't profit me to invest in something quite expensive, such as Pixinsight. One thing I hate to see in fact is certain standalone developers eventually integrating into PI only and thereby eliminating all free or independent paid access, so these tools are excellent, direct competitors without the costly price tag. I have gone back to a bunch of my old stacks and reprocessing with the latest tools to see if I can tease out more detail. So far, I have had a good deal of success especially with AI image enlargement using the free Upscayl! One thing I'll note, however, is that my PCs are all old and non-AVX, so it took some modifications to get both Upscayl and even Starnet to work, but well worth it. Thanks again for your constant updates, reviews, and tutorials. By the way, I have only had luck running GraXpert in Ubuntu. I couldn't get the prior latest stable release to run in Win 10 (installs but I get an error when trying to start up), so it will be interesting to see if this beta will run when I try it later.
Thanks! Happy to hear to hear the videos have helped!
is there a specific location on the computer where Siril looks for these folders? i have created the folders and put files inside but it stop executing the script because it doesn't read any files.
You only need one folder for this script, and it needs to be named lights. Then set your working directory to the folder where there you placed the lights folder in. So for example, C:\DSOName\Lights. C:\DSOName would be your working directory.
@@DeepSpaceAstro Thank you very much! And for the quick response!!
Hi Rich, has the Graxpert issue with autostrech been resolved?
Not that I'm aware of, and I'm not sure it's something that can be fixed. It may be more around the AutoStretch being too aggressive that gives it that look. When you drop to linear view and stretch, every thing looks ok.
Thanks for getting back to me! Love your observatory! What is your "day job"?
Thanks! I'm a tech consultant.
Hello! New to astrophotography. If I am using a mono cam, do I want to stack all the images then start adjusting the wavelets? Or should I adjust the wavelets in each filter then create the composite image from there, possibly adjusting the wavelets further?
If I use wavelets I always perform them on the stack, after stretching.
Yes!!
I'm using Siri 1.2.4 when I go to Pixel Math and add the registered files, the variables assigned to each image file is 1_B, 1_G, 2_Ha and 1_R. If I change the variable name to B, G, Ha and R, the equation Ha-Q*(R-med(R)) fails because it doesn't recognize the first R. Is there a setting I am missing?
It's case sensitive. Are you sure you're matching what you're using in the formula with the variable name? If so, then what's the error?
@@DeepSpaceAstro thanks for replying.. Okay, here's what happened..Yes, I know that they are case sensitive, but is seems like the value of R is corrupt or something. I followed your video as closely as I could. In retrospect I actually got to where I had created the HaCS.fit file. I used a Q of .285 ... saved the file and went back into Pixel Math to use the formula R+Q*(HaCS-med(HaCS)) for R and a Q=3. When I went to apply the console would say that character 1 was invalid.. (I'm going on memory). So I thought I would start all over and redo the process. When I get to Ha-Q*(R-med(R)) the second time around, I get the same syntax error, but at character 7.. in reality the console says error on Ha-.285*(R-med(R)) at character 10. Does any of my explanation make sense? I was looking for a way to clear the register for R
@@DeepSpaceAstro can I send you screen shots of my console and Pixel Math?
Sure

What’s up with the song? Nothing to do with the video 🤣
🤣
Thanks for everything you're doing for the community Rich. Will this script work with the latest 1.2.4 or do I have to go back to that specific beta version?
Yep it will. Thanks!
Lord have mercy!! if I was spending anywhere close to that amount of money , it better be spot on. I mean engineering development better design it to go snap-snap together like legos. You have ALL RIGHTS to give them a piece of your mind. I’m a fuser, but I would have been so pissed if I had all the problems you did. I’m not dyi person. That shit better work like expected! should never have to spend more money to assemble. Did you go to the business bureau?
I learned a lot from your videos. Just wanna say thank you.
You're welcome! Glad they're helpful.
This is brilliant Rich I'll probably wait for the non beta release before I try it out but I'll definitely be keeping my eye on it
My experiences with C/2023 A3: I was able to register and stack the (starless) comet images without first doing an autostretch. I then worked only on the final stacked starless and stacked starmask. Regarding the starmask, which also was stacked unstretched (as in your workflow), I put that through the regular workflow of Moffatt identification and desaturation along with everything else I would normally do with a deep sky object. I worked separately on each, stretched them separately, and then used the star recomposition for a final re-merging and tweaks at the very end. I never could get away with doing a PCC on a single image before registration. I don't suppose I can post a couple photos of that result here? One thing that always plagued me: if the head of the comet was far apart in some of the subs, I had artifacts. I had to remove quite a few subs to avoid that. And let me hasten to add, this was for the same night of imaging. The comet registration has limited capabilities. It seems to assume that everything falls in a line between the first and last comet heads that you identify. It's a simplifying step to do that. Deep Sky Stack has the user identify the location of every comet in the stacking series. In spite of that, I didn't find that DSS gives a better result than Siril. This is really hard stuff.
Yeah it can be tricky some times. Sorry to hear you're having issues
I've not been able to get it to work; first time it rebooted my computer, the subsequent attempts just resulted in error messages. I try a complete fresh install and see if I can get it to work.
If you can't get it going, they have support on Discord.
@@DeepSpaceAstro Thanks Rich, I updated my graphics driver, complete uninstall(including the models and preferences) and reinstall; that seems to have done the trick.
