Thank you for making this. New to astrophotography with the Seestar and spent all weekend fumbling through the Siril tutorials. I learned more of the basic in 18 min with you then in the several hours of trial and error.
Happy to hear that it was helpful! Thanks!
I'm new to astrophotograhy, just got a Seestar. This was really helpful for a newbie! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Sir. It took me a good amount of time. But with your help I was able to go step by step pausing the video. Making all the appropriate files and actually processing the image I collected of m51 Whirlpool Galaxy. Thank you so much. I'm still so new and still have so much to learn. But I had success! Thank you so much. I was on here before ranting and venting lol. But got it to work. Thank you. I plan on watching every single video you have on siril and studying it like I'm in college. Thanks for helping this welder with his first laptop stack and process an image.
Fantastic! So glad to hear you pushed threw and figured it out! Trust me, I've been there with the aggravation, but as you found out, it's worth it! Congrats!
Awesome video! Appreciate it!
Thanks!
Awesome tutorial! Thanks Ciril and Rich!!

Excellent Siril tutorial for processing Seestar S50 images, Much appreciated.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks!
Much appreciated!
Thank you!
Easily one of the best video guides in regards to Siril for beginners.
+sub
I did just received my Seestar.
Now a waiting game for clear skies as it always rains here in Wales.
Gonna try Siril once I get some data!
Welcome aboard and thank you!
Thanks again for always going the extra mile for us Ritch! Besides the wonderful content I really appreciate that you zoom into the various areas on the screen to make it easier for us to follow along. Warm greetings from South Africa!
Thank you for the comment! Happy to hear the videos have been helpful!
One of the easiest to follow Siril for beginners tutorial that I have seen. Thanks!
Thanks!
Thank You Rich! I have been stuck with Siril for weeks up to a point of frustration... until I came to your video; I have followed it several times until I assimilated all your advices and steps. (The same way I did with your other tutorials about Siril). I am a beginner and I do appreciate your help so much. Thank you once again!!!
Glad I could help!
Great video for Seestar thanks
Thank you!
Bravo ! joli traitement. 👌
Thanks again for the data!
Thanks!
Thank you!
The script works perfect. Even with several not perfectly aligned sessions.
Super helpful as always! Thanks for this. I'll take anything that simplifies the processing. The script is a vast improvement over the Seestar stack.
Thanks!
Thank you for explaining-not just the script-but how to use Siril!
Glad it was helpful for you! Thanks!
Merci pour ce tuto simple et efficace
Heureux que cela ait été utile ! Merci!
Thanks. Still trying to learn Siril. This should help.
I have siril installed, and a seestar. Now I just need better weather :) Great tutorial.
You and me both! Weather has been horrible for us! Thanks!
Great video!
The final images look incredibly better using Siril, Graxpert and GIMP.
Thanks!
As someone just starting to muddle their way through this, this lesson was invaluable. But, at what point in the process would Graxpert and GIMP be used? (sorry for the lazy question, I'm just getting overdone in tutorials).
I have been goofing with the Seestar and Siril. I have images from last light (M13) and some from a moth ago of Orion. I can’t wait to try out your suggestions and the new script. Thank you.
Thanks and good luck with it!
Thanks for the info. My husband has a Seestar but isn't interested in doing any processing on the images; however, I have my own imaging rigs and am just starting to learn Siril after using Photoshop. Very helpful video for me to do a quick edit on his data. If this is available for Linux, I will try to get him up and running on doing this.
Yes there's a version of Siril for Linux, and this script will work with it.
Thanks
Thank you!
This guy is real good. Watch all of his Siril tutorials, you will not regret the time investment
Thanks for that!
Great Tutorial (could be a tiny bit slower on the where you are clicking, but the pause button does work)
Thanks!
Thanks for this. Super helpful and subscribed because of it. Question: Were the exposures 10, 20, or 30 seconds?
That was data sent to me by someone because I don't have a Seestar. I believe they were 30s but can't remember for certain.
Excellent tutorial!!! Thank you!! I have a question: If you shoot multiple nights (sessions) with the Seestar, should I put all the light files in together in the lights folder?
Thanks! You are the best instructor!😊
Yes that should work just fine with the Seestar.
I don’t know if you follow Trevor at Astro Backyard. His newest post also mentions that tossing out data that is not the greatest is tough to do but is helping the final image. To hear it twice in a row just hammers the point into my thick skull. Again Thanks.
I do, and yes even today I struggle with doing that sometimes. 😁
You are the best man! Thank you from Jordan. I am lucky to have found your channel.
I have a question. I have too many light frames of a single object (over 3,000). What I usually do is stack every 200 frames and save them as linear, without any processing like auto-stretching. I save the results directly after running the Seestar script. Let's say I have 3,000 frames. After stacking every 200 frames, I have 15 linear FIT stacked frames. Then, I run the Seestar script again with those 15 stacked frames and continue with post-processing, etc.
Is this method the right way to deal with so many frames?
You can although it's not ideal. If you could stack them all at once, it's better, but I understand the challenge. If you can, I'd stack as much as you can (more than the 200) per stack. Thanks!
Great tutorial, but it leaves me conflicted. I jumped into astrophotography a few months ago. I purchased the SVBony 80mmED refractor and a Skywatcher AZ GTi mount. Also bought a pristine Canon T5i body and adapter. I've become reasonably proficient with capture and processing software and have managed to capture some pretty decent images. However, I am 70 years old and in not so great health, and setting up for a night's imaging session is somewhat difficult. My quandary is whether I should stick with the more traditional astrophotography route (especially since I've made the financial investment) or go the Seestar route. Seeing what can be done with Seestar images in Siril just adds to my confusion.
Thanks! Honestly I don't think the smart scopes can produce images as well as a traditional setup can. Don't get me wrong they do a good job, it's just they can only perform the way the manufacture designs them too. There's no upgrading the optics, camera, etc. They're a great fit for beginners and folks in situations such as yours. It comes down to each individuals needs and preferences.
@@DeepSpaceAstro This helps a lot. I had not thought about having no option to update the smart scopes. Thanks!
Thanks for this clear and easy to understand video. Having followed successfully I have processed the resultant stacked image, however having compared the result with the SeeStar internal stack I find the SeeStar stack gives the better final result. Am I missing something here? Why should one preprocessing method be different from the other?
This is more of a primer for Siril. Watch my other videos on how to use the other tools within Siril i.e. Generalized Hyperbolic Stretch, Starnet, Deconvolution, etc. Siril gives you control of the final image and in doing so can get you a better final image.
Thanks for your reply yesterday but I didn’t explain myself properly. I have been processing SeeStar stacked data in Siril for a while now using the guidance from your earlier video’s including GraXpert, Starnet and AstroSharp and I have had some amazing successes. Having then stacked the same data using the new Seestar preprocessing script in Siril and then following the identical image processing work flow, the stacked data coming directly from the SeeStar has always proved to give the better final result. What I really don’t understand why would you go to the trouble of stacking again in Siril when it has already been stacked for you by the SeeStar? What your video has made possible is to combine the light frames from different sessions which is in itself brilliant. Thanks again!!
The data that you pull out of the Seestar isn't already stacked. You're pulling the raw individual images, unprocessed or stacked. The script also rejects the subs that have bad stars due to sub-par tracking. I don't own one, so I really can't do a side-by-side comparison. I suppose if you had a good session where the stars/data were really good, the Seestar may be doing a good enough job. One benefit of Siril is it allows you to learn the whole stacking and processing side of things, if you ever decided to go with a more traditional setup.
Hi, thanks for the video, where I can find the script? Thanks
I cover everything in the video, including where and how to install the script.
Does this script work with only the Orion Nebula or with other deep sky objects like the Andromeda galaxy?
Yes it works with anything out of the Seestar
Sorry am new to this...
when you run the script, is it stacking the image?
Yes. Just follow the steps in the video and you'll be good.
@@DeepSpaceAstro much appreciated
Is there a way to have a different output directory for my stacked images? My lights are saved on my desktop however I don’t have the space to stack and save the images to the same location. I am trying to have the stack saved to a SSD and it won’t let me have a working directory on the SSD but I am not seeing a way to change the save location. Sorry for the convoluted question.
You should be able to click the blue house button and select your other drive. Copy all of your data from the desktop to that working directory and then run the script
@@DeepSpaceAstro got it! Just realized it wouldn’t recognize my lights folder because I capitalized the “L”. I’m noticing now it has a problem with Seestar’s pre-stacked fit files. Unfortunately I have 3 or 4 imaging sessions that were saved as a stack only about 4 hours of data out of my 15 hours of M81. I’m getting “number of layers (1) is not consistent with sequence. Do I need to pull those out?
@FITMEDICS Yeah you don't want to use want it stacked. Just the individual fits files
@@DeepSpaceAstro copy that. It’s a bummer cause when the Seestar firmware was updated it unchecked the “save individual exposures” box and like I said I got about 4 hours of data that I guess is lost. But thanks for your help my friend!
Thanks for all that you do. I am running windows 10 and everything you do looks different on my computer. I have tried this numerous times and I cannot get it to work. I give up. Moveing to Star tools because Siril just does not work for me at all ever. And even when I do process using Siril with data from my Seestar the finished product looks like crap! Sorry about the rant but it is just very frustrating.
I might be able to help you, but I'll need specifics. I understand your frustration, I've been there.
Hey I would appreciate your help. I have the same beautiful picture of M 42 except mine is peppered with noise. You have a nice black space background I don't. How do I get rid of this? Thanks
Try more exposures or longer exposure times. You can also use the adjustments sliders in the Histogram Transformation tool to try and get the background darker.
@@DeepSpaceAstro Thanks for the help. Appreciated. Keep up the great tutorials and pictures. Clear skies!
Hi I feel kind of silly. I'm new to my Seestar, and when I try to take my image from the device I only have a single FITS file that starts with "Stacked" It's doesn't give me any files that start with "Light" like your example. Any idea what I should be doing differently?
That's the already stacked image. You need all of the individual images taken during your session. Unfortunately, I don't own a Seestar so I can't tell you where you need to look. Try asking in one of the FB groups. Sorry.
Im learning from the tutorials but I'm just not understanding how to extract all the single fits files from the main file so that i can look and see if there are any jpeg or other type files that need to be deleted before running the seestar script. Can someone help me with this, please?
Unfortunately I don't have a Seestar to give you the exact steps, but you want to pull the individual fits files from the Seestar for processing, not jpegs. Maybe someone else will chime in and explain how to do that.
@DeepSpaceAstro thanks for your response! What I did was download a fits file from a Seestar f/b group. It is of ngc 6888 and contains 3125 10s exposures. I see in the tutorial that you have a list of individual fit files. I'm just trying to get to that point. Yes, hopefully there will be other responses here.
All my pictures always end up being super grainy. Is there any way to fix that? I tried darkening it but it makes the image unrecognizable
More exposures can help if you don't have that many. You could also try denoising the image with GraXpert. ruclips.net/video/OmHBvWwU6zE/видео.html
@@DeepSpaceAstro Thanks for the reply! How many exposures would you recommend though? I took a 50 minute exposure of m100 last night and it didn’t turn out very well.
Script downloaded as PDF
I just tested it and it didn't download as a pdf. Are you following the download instructions from the video and using the link in the description?
Why is my script saving as a PDF ??
If downloaded several times still stuck
I don't know how that's possible. Does it have a .pdf extension on the filename? Can you paste the what you see from the console when it saves the file?
@@DeepSpaceAstro Windows settings must recognize SSF extension as an Adobe one in some cases...
Thanks!
Thank you!
