I'll set my calendar for December I 11th! Thanks for the heads up! I'm glad to see Dwarf gave to approval! Oh, and by the way, happy anniversary! Will it be on the Dwarf video post where you put it on the cement slab sun dial? Thanks 🙏 Ron & Maryellen 👥
I just got an ad for this device and thought, it couldn't be any good but now I randomly discovered this video. For the size and simplicity it's very surprising :)
My wife and I are going to New Zealand next year for a holiday and this would be ideal to take on a plane as hand luggage to do astrophotography in the southern hemisphere, good review and I am amazed how small the unit is.
What an amazing time we live in! With instruments like the Dwarf II and the Seestar telescopes available astronomy is becoming something that can be enjoyed by just about anyone!
I was using film on a hand crank tracker that I made in the 90's. This is amazing technology.... astrophotography isn't easy, but this is a game changer for the novice.
I've seen MANY reviews about the Dwarf 2, but by far this review is the MOST comprehensive. I'm very impressed with the effort put into this video. Thank you so much. Once again, you hit this one out of the park! You are making me take a serious look at this unit.
I agree. I own a Dwarf 2 and I learned several things from your video that I did not know after using it for 3 months. Great job, Rich. I also have gotten much value from you Siril videos. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
I’ve owned a Dwarf for about 6 months now and you quickly became my go to for Siril tutorials for post processing from it. I bought it for astro but you’ve taught me so much about the other features that I haven’t really thought about using. I’ll definitely give it a go. Thanks for the great work.
My husband found your videos and have been talking about them ever since and editing his photos all the time from what he learns. He's been mentioning this dwarf telescope and I'm trying to help him win it. I think it looks really neat!
I've been using Dwarf 2 since April and love it. I found your channel while trying to learn Siril and it quickly became my favorite. You give better explanations than anyone else I've found. My niece would love one, hope I win it so I can give it to her.
I recently bought a Dwarf II, and I'm really enjoying using it. I have seen more objects in the few months that I've owned it, than in the few years of having my 130mm relector scope. I would suggest that anyone who has access to a 3D printer to print a Bahtinov mask. It just needs to temporarily press fit into the threads on the adapter. I autofocus first, then use the mask to fine tune the focus. It really improves the image quality.
Absolutely brilliant Rich as usual. Having watched so many of your Siril tutorials these last 12 months you’ve taught me so much. This video was a pleasant change and it increases my awareness of what is available to pursue our fantastic hobby. In the last week I’ve began imaging again after 2 spinal surgery operations, the first time since April! I made some basic errors but overcame them quickly, then the clouds rolled in after just an hour. I used Siril and Graxpert and ended up with a pleasant image in spite of the weather. Not sure if you know, but Graxpert has just been updated again! Love your videos ….. keep them coming 🤝
That's great to hear that you're on the mend! Glad the videos have been helpful, wish I could help with the clouds! ☹️They plague us all at times. Yep I did see they updated their AI version. I've been using it exclusively now. Nice we don't have to download anything put the program any longer. Hope you continue healing fast!
Excellent video. What I like about your videos is that you don't waste time. In 30 mins you showed us every feature the D2 has to offer which is what sets it apart from other smart scopes. I've watched many other videos that are longer but cover less because they over talk and over explain. Thanks for all your hard work!
Thank you for the clear breakdown of the features and functionality! The Dwarf II might be the right level of commitment / fiddliness for a friend of mine who loves astrophotography images, but doesn't have the patience for the (endless) trouble-shooting.
Hey Rich, im not an avid commenter, im more of a lurker, but since I get the chance I just wanna tell you that your siril tutorials were a lifesaver for me.
I already have a Dwarf 2 but the images I've been able to capture are amazing. Is there any open-source software that can help eliminate the core blowout on nebula's like Orion? @@DeepSpaceAstro
Thanks for the informative review. I live in a place where clouds can appear quickly and all too often by the time you've set up, polar aligned etc with a traditional scope and mount, it's cloudy. With this you can be up and running and make more of that half hour of clear sky. And as you said, ideal for those who can't make the commitment of time and money.
Your videos have been an extreme help to me processing in siril, I'm still learning everyday and constantly going back to image after image everytime I watch a new one to try to put the techniques in motion to improve my image. You've been a massive help and I appreciate your hard work!
These smart devices are awesome and at a great price. I have an Askar FRA180 w Star adventurer, a small ASI462 and a ASIAIR all costing over 2K. This unit is under 1K in Australia and is portable. Thank you for your content with Siril and new gear reviews.
Enjoyed, good review and guide. This scope is also going be good for us older astrophotographers when setting up a large rig just gets to be too much but we want to keep taking images.
This is the best review video on the Dwarf II that I've watched thus far. I was quite intrigued with the ability to adjust the various colors (e.g. white, red, green, and blue) of the image. This saves a person that is new to astrophotography from having to manually do this in a program such as Adobe Photoshop.
Years ago I was fortunate enough to have access to an observatory and took photos with a 24 inch telescope. It was fun, but also frustrating at times. This telescope has allowed me to get back out there. I agree that the photos are not as sharp and detailed as with a DSLR, but this is ALOT easier to work with. I am looking forward to the new app. It is supposed make using the Dwarf 2 go from fun to fantastic!
That's great to hear. Anything to get you back under the stars! I've been testing the new beta firmware and app, and I think everyone is going to love it!
Excellent review, as usual. Your channel is my GoTo for all the SIRIL related updates. But I also found this is one of the most comprehensive review of Dwarf 2. It clears many of our doubts. We are thinking of getting one of these for for our Astronomy club. This smart telescope have an excellent potential to be used as EAA tool in our public outreach astronomy night sky events.
Great review. I've been contemplating on picking up one of these. I've seen many reviews, but I believe yours was the only one I've seen that made use of the light pollution filter and connecting to a power bank while shooting. I would love to see the results when in equatorial mode. I used to shoot astrophotography back when there were no digital cameras, all film. It's amazing what technology brings to the hobby. I would love to someday own a dwarf but it would be a real joy to win one. Thanks for the awesome video and clear skies!!!
Great video Rich, love all your content. You got me hooked on your Siril tutorials, and now thanks to your Dwarf II videos, I'm thinking about buying one of these small EAA scopes to do some widefield stuff while my main scope is busy doing it's thing. Thanks for the content!
You have converted me into a Dwarf follower. Thanks for your fantastic series on the Dwarf II. I am now a subscriber and follower to your channel. Looking forward to your future videos!.. Clear skies!
Hey Rich, typically watching for your excellence on Siril. If you make another video on the unit. Comment on whether it can be adapted for an equatorial mount, other filters, saving individual files for stacking on Siril. Cheers.
Great tutorial & assessment. I have several different manufactures models of these "robot" guys( vespera, equinox, SeeStar). I am experimenting with how their individual data can integrate with each other's data and looking at what is the best results that can be achieved. This really helps. Thank you!
I think we will see more telescopes like dwarflab. It is an amazing telescope to easily take pictures. After watching your review, im even more impressed by this little one.❤
yup I kinda like the idea of instant setup even if it comes at the cost of alt az vs EQ tracking. I wonder how good would this do for filming the swimming meets with the tracking feature :) hate having to choose between swanky photos and filming the event ... I wonder what would happen if you put a Barlow shorty on the Tele lens ...
So the cell unscrews from the Barlow that I have. That was the first thing I tried when I received the unit. I didn't expect to achieve focus with it on, and I was right. ☹️
I like the thoroughness on the give away. Also after all the videos of yours I've seen it's strange to see you outside. I've been looking looking at a smart scope for my kid as an easy way to introduce her to astronomy, I've even suggested to her school to have an astro club and get some of the smart scopes but sadly they didn't go for it.
Haha. Yeah I had all kinds of technical issues with shooting outside. Mic dying, lighting, etc. I hate the audio on this one, but learned a lot about all of that by getting out of my office. That's too bad about the school. I think that's a great idea!
Nice review Rich - thanks as always ! I like the portability and all the different camera features/settings that are available. I can see throwing that in the car and taking it to some remote areas without having to carry too much gear. What about dew ? Is that a concern or does it have a built-in heater ?
Thanks. That was an informative introduction. I am keeping an eye on smart scope development because I may eventually buy one. I have a manual 6" Dob I built 20 years ago and do some lunar and planetary drift videos. Unfortunately, my Bortle 9 location and view limited yard have made DSOs difficult. At 75, the idea of travelling to setup traditional AP gear is daunting. So, I am using remote imaging locations for that, and you to teach me how to process my images in SiRil. An even bigger thanks for that valuable service.
I just bought the Seestar which is on back order. I would love to check this out. I’m new to astronomy and astrophotography so I have a lot to learn. Good video.
One little note - you can basically turn the Dwarf 2 to an equatorial mount system by putting it on an angled tripod head. A few astrophotography youtubers have done videos about it. Seems relatively simple.
As someone who is trying to do astrophotography living in a small apartment, devices like this are always very interesting. Space is such a premium these days.
hey Rich, Thank you very much for your contributions and this review! It looks like a nice thing to have around while you're fiddling with the other camera. you can at least show something for sure when you get home for the night spent out freezing to photograph some stars ;)
Love your normal Siril content and you also did a great job with the dwarf review. I always wanted to get something like the dwarf but here recently with all the existing, new and upcoming roboscopes, it's pretty hard to decide on something to get. I guess it's a good problem to have😂. Keep up the good work!❤
Great demo! I've been interested in Astrophotography for a long time but the equipment and learning curve seemed daunting. This could be a great entry point. Cheers, 🤘
I trying to dip my toe into astrophotography, but finding it overwhelming...... your tutorials are great and easy to follow. The Dwarf II looks like an amazing gadget and gateway into this complex, but rewarding hobby. Keep up the great work p.s. hope you didn't damage the light pollution filter when it "pinged" out the holder 😀
The Dwarf is pretty awesome for its price point and size! It is a lot more capable that I thought it would be and super easy to use! It got me back into astro after years of equipment issues.
Great video! And great channel. Found you looking for Siril tutorials 😊. It looks like a great option for traveling with. Do you know if you can mount it in equatorial mode to negate the field rotation? I was under the impression that this might be possible.
As always your explanation and presentation is top notch. This was one of the best video tutorial on the Dwarf 2. I do like these new gadgets and find them enjoyable and would probably attract new blood to this hobby due to its simplicity. Thank you for being so thorough and give us an honest review.
Awesome review! This would be great for my parents. They have a celestron go-to scope, but they have no idea how to do the star alignment so they never use it lol
@DeepSpaceAstro well I also found an entire setup on MP and talked them down to 700. I'm new but I'm not so new that I didn't understand that was the much better route money wise as well lol. I still can't believe the deal I got.
Another awesome video Rich , smart scopes are great way to get people into this beautiful hobby .Dwarf looks like solid unit . Your Siril series really was a game changer for me .Thank you
The Dwarf seems really cool! I'm a hobby landscape photographer and have dabbled in astrophotography with little luck. Equipment and all. This looks like a great way to get into it!
👽👽Congratulations to @mbeeg75! The winner of the Dwarf II Smart Telescope!! Thanks everyone! This was a lot of fun! 🎁🎁
Awesome! Thank you Dwarf Lab!

My wife and I are going to New Zealand next year for a holiday and this would be ideal to take on a plane as hand luggage to do astrophotography in the southern hemisphere, good review and I am amazed how small the unit is.
Thanks! Being able to take this literally anywhere is a big bonus!
I am getting old now and any device that lets me stay indoors and keep warm is a goer for me. This Dwarf II does all the work for you , brilliant
Yep. It definitely has its place
What an amazing time we live in! With instruments like the Dwarf II and the Seestar telescopes available astronomy is becoming something that can be enjoyed by just about anyone!
That's definitely true!

Tutorial is saved ready for when I've saved up for my dwarf. Definitely one of the most detailed run through I've seen yet.
Awesome, thank you!

Looks to be a great little tool to easily show others exciting images of the night sky in real time, thanks for sharing!
It is!
As I do lots of outreach I love the idea of using this, you could even let the kids control the camera. Something to seriously think about.
Absolutely! The kids take to tech so easily nowadays, this would be a piece of cake for them!
Fingers crossed, this would be great when I’m travelling.
Definitely thinking about getting one of these for my kids to be able to enjoy the night sky whilst I'm faffing around setting my scope up!
The perfect way to get the young ones interested in the hobby!
Way to get to the FINISH LINE!!!!!!

pretty cool device for some simple no sweat AP, would be nice to bring on a hike or something like that. Still light years behind a proper AP setup

I trying to dip my toe into astrophotography, but finding it overwhelming...... your tutorials are great and easy to follow. The Dwarf II looks like an amazing gadget and gateway into this complex, but rewarding hobby. Keep up the great work
p.s. hope you didn't damage the light pollution filter when it "pinged" out the holder 😀
Awesome, thank you! It survived. I got lucky! 😉
Would make a good beginning/kid scope
Absolutely!
Good review. It went over all of the features of the Dwarf with good detail. I'm thinking of getting one.
Thank you!
The Dwarf is pretty awesome for its price point and size! It is a lot more capable that I thought it would be and super easy to use! It got me back into astro after years of equipment issues.
That's awesome!
Great review mate. Ive learnt so much from your usual Siril tutorials. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! Happy to hear they've helped!
Very good review, nice to see a serious astrophotographer look at an inexpensive smart telescope. Thanks!
Thank you!
Great video! And great channel. Found you looking for Siril tutorials 😊. It looks like a great option for traveling with. Do you know if you can mount it in equatorial mode to negate the field rotation? I was under the impression that this might be possible.
Thanks! Yep you can! I've seen other videos where they polar align and angle it to their latitude with success.
As always your explanation and presentation is top notch. This was one of the best video tutorial on the Dwarf 2. I do like these new gadgets and find them enjoyable and would probably attract new blood to this hobby due to its simplicity. Thank you for being so thorough and give us an honest review.
Thanks so much!
Planning a road trip with my son this month and would love to do some astrophotography and get amazing shots
Good luck!
Awesome review! This would be great for my parents. They have a celestron go-to scope, but they have no idea how to do the star alignment so they never use it lol
Thanks! Sounds like this would be a good fit for them.
I almost got one of these. But went with a dlsr and tracker for now. But I love the goto.
You'll get much better results with that setup, but the Dwarf is still fun to use!
@DeepSpaceAstro well I also found an entire setup on MP and talked them down to 700. I'm new but I'm not so new that I didn't understand that was the much better route money wise as well lol. I still can't believe the deal I got.
I think this Dwarf would be a great travel scope!
It would be!
Great video. Can’t wait for the 2.0 update
Another awesome video Rich , smart scopes are great way to get people into this beautiful hobby .Dwarf looks like solid unit . Your Siril series really was a game changer for me .Thank you
Thanks! I believe they are too! Glad to hear the videos have been helpful!
The Dwarf seems really cool! I'm a hobby landscape photographer and have dabbled in astrophotography with little luck. Equipment and all. This looks like a great way to get into it!
Yeah it makes it pretty easy!
Nice review Rich and I appreciate all your Siril tutorials! Super helpful!
Glad you like them! Thanks!
Let's get you those metrics Rich 💯 nice review
