I have been waiting for this tutorial for a while. A big thanks. The clusters I tried to process, were awful. I tried the desaturate the starts, make them round and the results was disgusting. Hopefully now I would be able to make a better work. Many thanks.
Thanks for another great video! Just imaged M13 yesterday. But with my "big" NexStar 6SE on my little Startracker Star Adventurer GTi I am always at the edge of what's possible. I guess last night my balancing wasn't done well because I just have a bit of movement in almost every pictures. Thus even the stack of the 20 best or all the 180 lights have much elongated stars where your settings don't really work because my data is way worse than yours. Still learned a lot again as in every single video of yours I watch! Thx!!
Thanks so much! Are you able to stack some of the images? If so, take a look at this to fix the elongated stars in the final stack. ruclips.net/video/VNAcOcpubgQ/видео.html
@@DeepSpaceAstro already ran your script and the result was - how should I put it - "interesting" 🤣! But in my experience it's better for me to concentrate on getting better data than fiddling too long trying to pull out something where there's actually nothing. But nothing is said too hard, I'm still quite happy with the result. And I just can't stop being amazed at what is hidden out there in the dark, M13 is just amazingly beautiful 😍🤩!
Thank you so much for this. Have just reprocessed M13 and there is a huge improvement over my previous effort. I did have trouble with artifacts stretching with GHS in siril but they did not appear when using arcsinh stretch in PS.
Thanks for another find tutorial. I've learned a lot from you. couple questions: 1. In your earlier deconvolution video you ran Blind DC first. Is that not necessary? 2. You stretched w/independant Channel Values. Why not Human or Even Weighted to show star color per "Enhance Your Galaxy Images with Siril"? (That video really helped with my galaxy & star cluster Seestar photos.)
Thanks! In the deconvolution video I show 2 ways to do it. The blind is just one way. You can absolutely do that when stretching. There's no one way to do most things when processing. It's all about preference.
Another great video Rich 😊. Very informative as always and I'll try and apply your process to one of my M13 images taken around a couple of months ago. Cheers 👍
Hey Rich!! Love the videos my friend! In using the Dwarf 2, I sometimes get some walking noise in my stacked images. It's much better now that I polar align the Dwarf, but can Siril remove this noise?
Another great video Rich. Straight forward, concentrated messages and instructions. I use a free version of Lightroom after using GraXpert and Siril and I stack in ASI (not so good, but i'll get to that) Your channel is awesome, it helps enjoying the hobby, saves us money and time. Thanks Rich. 👌✌👍
I predict this video will be a slow burner for a long time, as when you type in "Process Globular cluster" into RUclips you get crickets (nothing). Good video and your explanation and delivery were good. I have lots of Omega Centauri data with my 24" dobsonian i will now revisit and see what your technique brings. Subscirbed All the best Damo
I was surprised by the two-star selection for the deconvolution PSF. I’ve typical gotten rid of the smallest one-half by highlighting and clicking in an A-sorted list, then deleted the largest ones. Am I over killing it? Or worse, averaging in too many oddball objects into the PSF? Because I also typically need to stay 5 or fewer iterations and max step 2 to avoid black halos. Then I did M56 using the 0.1 and 0.7 limits and could iterate 10 step 3 without artifacts.
Yeah it's the range I've always used. I believe that came from the documentation as a recommendation, and it's always worked well for me. At then end of the day, it's what you like for you data. Deconvolution is one of those things that you can spend a lot of time on.
Hi I have a question? I'm looking into buying Pixinsight and was wondering if you owned it and if so do you prefer pixinsight or sirlil or do they both have their own uses? If you do have pixinsight do you regret buying it since you seem to use Sirlil a lot? I'm hesitant on the price and just want to make sure. Thanks for any information you have.
I do own PI. I've been sticking mostly with Siril, because of the channel and it does what I need. PI is great and there are a ton more tools, some of which can make some steps easier, but I'd say if you're getting good results with Siril there's no need to make that jump right now.
I have a dumb question concerning subs. Each light sub we take has all the data needed to make an image. If two subs that are identical are stacked, the sum of data from two subs is better than the individual sub viewed alone. So, let's say we take 30, 5 minutes subs that are all sharp, free of atmospheric distortion, and contain about the same SNR. Say you stack these subs and get a decent image, how would that be different than taking one good 5 minute sub, duplicating it 30 times and then stacking and processing that image?
Not a dumb question at all. In fact, I wondered the same when I started out, but unfortunately it doesn't work like that. Stacking works by averaging the data. If the images were the same there wouldn't be anything to average since photons arrive at different times in different positions on the sensor. A simple analogy I've seen is it's the same difference between reading a 300 page book, and reading the first page 300 times.
I've still been trying to hop back and forth between Siril and GraXpert, too. Some combinations of actions just DO NOT work. Thanks for the reality check.
I'll be very happy when I can navigate Siril this well.
Cheers mate! Literally looking for a video on processing globular clusters and you’ve posted it
@@CosmoHammers Awesome! Hope toy find it useful
Brilliant Rich, please keep them coming you have helped me so much in my processing.
Glad to hear that! Thanks!
Great video; thank you for covering this! Also, congrats on 10k subscribers!
Glad you liked it, and thank you!
Perfect! I have been struggling with processing these!!!
Hope it helps!
Wow! This looks fantastic. I never would have thought of this workflow. Another great tutorial, Rich! Thank you so much.

Good trick to process only the starmask to get rid of the center haze, I will use it for my clusters. Thanks for your videos

Correct. One or the other to get your PSF. Doing both buys you nothing.

Thanks! Yes it's free and open source.

Hi Rich. When you crop, wouldn't you need to adjust the focal distance in color calibration?
I believe PCC takes that into consideration, so no. If you watch the focal length value in PCC, you'll see it changes if you cropped prior.
@@DeepSpaceAstro is that only if it's in the exif data?
The focal length is in the fits header of the .fits file. Not exactly sure what PCC is doing, but if you crop, then run PCC, you'll see it change.
@@DeepSpaceAstro cool. Thanks!

3.0.2
Is the process the same for open clusters as well?
It's all about how you would like the image to look. Give it a try.
