Some time ago, I made a fly cutter. It works, but...
Than I made another one. It works, but...
Let's try again.

Very entertaining Michel. I would note on the expensive cutting oil, that they allegedly include some kind of chlorine and sulphur compounds that are able to convect the heat better than regular oil. I could not verify if this is true, in practice, or not. Probably very marginal benefit and making more smoke anyway. but it is ofcourse a respectable personal decision to forgo the more expensive kind.
Nice work Michel👍. The oil system seems to be working well too 👍👍
Hi Michel ☺, I'd say you have a win whith making this new cutter, and the test finish looks very good. Thanks for another interesting video mate, stay safe, best wishe's to you and your's, Stuart UK.
Are you going to install a coolant pump for the celtic? I belive it has space in the rigth leg
Hey just letting you know that i have some great chicken recipes. If you want to make them disappear again.
Nice job, Michel. Interesting race in Spa. Winners and losers and Danny Ric got a point too. Regards, Mark
Great little fly cutter Michel. I should also make some that have inserts like this one. But, so much to do with so little time...
Yes Michel changing the angle a little bit works better and looks betterthan Nº 1.As a matter of fact it is a very pretty looking tool.Thank you.
Nice one Michel I need to make one of these 👍👍😉😉 See you next time Kev
Very nice work sir. That fly cutter works great.
Hi Michel, Great Saturday morning viewing. Have a good weekend, and thanks for sharing buddy 🎉
it's the angle of the dangle not the size thats the prize 😜
It's doing the job..burr free. Finish looks great. I call that a win 👍👍 Cheers, Rusty....
Very nice! Seeing the different behaviors of the tool geometries was really interesting!
Nice work. Looking forward to the review of the motor oil coolant. Does it go everywhere ? Or does it stay on the table. I guess it depends on spindle speed. Cheers for the entertaining video.
Looks like you have another tool for your shelf. 👍
That is nice !!
You have some great fly cutters now. Very nice.
G'day Rusty. Very well done, with a nice finish.
Really nice job, well done 👍
Nice! 👍
Loving the finish you got, I really should get in and make myself something like that because I love using my fly cutter because of the great finishes, but it's way too big at times. Well done. 👍
instead of replacing the vice, you coud just have moved the big one to the next T-slot in the table
Excellent job rusty, love the diy tools..
You made that look so easy to make & with a perfect result.👍👍👍. Steve.
Nice work!
Another great vid Good onya
As always, thanks for the entertainment. Very well done! Too advanced for me. The wallet has been used... Checked my factory made 50 mm face mill with 4 inserts. It produces not much burr, as Your tool. The cutting angle is slightly less then 90 degrees. The insert is a 4 corner, romb or parallelloid shape. Making plastic feet for my drying rack turning will take place and shake 1 year of dust out of the lathe. Making a new part for a chain saw will do the same with the mill, one day...
Another fine tool, Michel. One more to add to my ever expanding list of things to make.
That’s an excellent fly cutter - I think I want to make one of those.
Looks like you have something that will work better now. How is the oil working for you? Have you considered letting the other lathe go? Maybe make room for another machine? 😉
😊
Really nice job Michel, as always, you’re work is of a very high standard and the video is both entertaining and informative 👍😀😀
Appears to have a really good finish. The motor oil appears to be working too. Another job(s) well done!
You did such a good job, that I don't even have a witty remark, great job! :) I guess that means I failed this week, you win! :):)
Some interesting designs of fly cutter. Number 111 turned out really well. Nice job 👍 Cheers Nobby
Interesting to hear the machining limits of your two lathes. I don't normally exceed 1mm cut with my Harrison 140 mine although I think it could do a bit more. Also interesting to see how you cut the pocket for the insert. Cheers
Love the pencils. Machine and coolant maintenance has to be done 😁
Another quality made in Belgium tool.
you did that beautifully again. on to making beautiful things with your new tool👍🏻
Your larger lathes paying for itself in the time it's saving you. Great result for both tool and machine. Cheers Tony
👍😎
This is a nice result and huge improvement in cutting quality. 👍 From memory I think I read in a Geo. H Thomas book about plans for a two cutter fly cutter with the spacing of the roughing bit a little shallower and at a slightly larger radius then the finishing cutter (HSS), making every cut a finishing pass. I can see making the equivalent with inserts. I'll edit the name of the book when I get to my library. (edit) Geo H Thomas, "Workshop Techniques", "The Facing Cutter", pp. 162-163, Fig 17-4
Nice cutter Michel, I grade you A+. Have a nice day! The motor oil appears to be a great success.
Hi Michel, the new lathe made mincemeat of that new holder and the finish was excellent as well. The finished holder gave a great finish we could see the reflection. Well done!! Have a great weekend
Video is excellent. Enjoyed it as usual. Have a good weekend.
Living and learning! Nice work and it produced a very nice finish! Have a good week Michel!
I never know what speed to run the cutter.
I used to buy damaged drums of oil that were leaking or mangled from local depots when I lived in Texas. I would mix it with diesel to run in equipment and use the thinner oils or atf for cutting fluids. Living in Alaska now, I no longer have that luxury. I still use atf for cutting oil, though.
It might be a bit challenging putting that pencil behind your ear. 😀
You're right. I didn't think of that.
