Sean o Falluin regenerative farming Ireland
Добавлен 22 ноя 2014
Hello and welcome to our channel. Regenerative farming Ireland on trail is what I am about. I am putting to use all of the regenerative /adaptive farming practices in an effort to produce using traditional cattle breeds, an animal fit to thrive in harsh wet conditions free from all the previously and still promoted chemical inputs on land or beast. We run a 12 month grazing system where all animals are outwintered in their natural environment mimicking there instinctive urge to migrate and keep on the move.
We are putting to the test weather regenerative farming can prove to not only meet but be a carbon negative operation, rebuild our depleted soils bring back biodiversity fix the water cycle and ecosystems. All while producing a heathly chemical and drug free nutritionally dence super food we call beef.
I am a firm believer that is not the cow but the how. Make agriculture great again and save the small Irish traditional family farms.

I look forward to seeing what happens with the ponies and the rushes
Great stuff Sean. We’re flying through November hopefully it stays like this . Does the donkey mix with the ponies or stays on their own ? 👍🏻
Good stuff
Sean you might've shown it in a previous video, but what way do you work getting water to them? Have a similar operation going with horses here and use an IBC container mounted on a trailer with a hose attached, but if you've a different way it'd be great to see it.
Grey mare is a bit tender on her feet or stiff Sean if you had missed it
Thanks john ill take a look🙌
AMAZING Sean as ever
Thank you Gerry . I've not seen as good a November in years
Another lovely update. The weather is very good at the moment, long may it last. All looking cold weather ready. Thank you.
Thank you Marie. I've the foal well settled at home. Will be great to get them out again asap.
Sorry got helping a friend this morning early and just got back. Love your videos so sorry I got a late start.
Sean I always enjoy your videos.
Cattle looking well and content in this cold weather. Very jealous of you out in the fresh air and brightness. Spare a thought for me on the 1 hour 30 min commute each way to work. Keep er lit
Tá an aimsir go hiontach!
Lovely captured footage views ! .. and as always beautiful sharing adventure upload and share ! .. appreciate your efforts and hard work for sharing your beautiful sharing lifestyle adventure documentary ! .. thanks again my friend ! ..
I was watching the grey horse at the start and wondered if it was tender, then seeing things, then stiffness in the front left/right looking at it. Most likely I was seeing things!
Great shot of the mist there, great video as usual Seán.
Just the right amount of cold at the moment beats the rain hands down.there lookin good sean, don't remind us of last year.little MAE done OK too.
Very interesting sean
Thanks Noel
Any man with ponies, horses or donkeys won't sell them if they wanted to they'd be gone there's always some grá there even if no money. I'd say keep the numbers as is. They want you pushing up numbers in cows for no reason other than they see no benefit in the ponies. If a donkey is the one thing keeping a man happy no point getting rid of him, some lads are that way they're pets while cattle are work. Would you have an extra few cows next year with heifers when you didn't sell, that'll be enough of an increase if so to see how things go then 👍
Well kieran thank you. My logic now that I'm prioritising cattle is the ponies are being kept at almost zero cost. Even though on average I can make the same margin with them as cattle. No one would tell me to not keep a topper or a hedge cutting yet they all cost money to run . And they don't push out replacement toppers every year. 🙌
@seanofalluinregenerativefa4569 yes true enough you can't lose there really. For the most part cows are going well just need the calves to follow too. 🤣 toppers don't give birth unfortunately On another note val martin's election videos are worth checking, he'll need every bit of help he can get 👍
Good looking ponies.
Thank you for a lovely update. Lovely to hear your story of the ponies and sheep and finally the cattle. Delighted you started this journey because we all have the privilege of travelling with you. Most enjoyable . Keepup the good work.
Thank you Marie. Over the years I felt i was always searching for a system I could be happy with . And I just felt I had to force things to look right or to get growth . Battling "weeds" and puring inputs in. Now I really feel like there's harmony. A long deep breath of fresh air. That my sound cuckoo but I really believe that🙏
@seanofalluinregenerativefa4569 the very best of luck to you and keep up the good work
At least you have made a very bad day better. Coming in very late after a day that makes you wonder if it’s worth it and your videos brightens it up.
Your some man to get so much from so little😂
Thanks Gerry 🙌
When you have a churned up spot, you can move your fencing to exclude the area, and just give them a slight bit more of the neighboring paddock to compensate. Aim for the silage or haylage to be where you wnat the ponies to be, not where you want them off.
Now you have Lee. I've made a little video of it and now plan to do so every month until I'm back . Should be interesting to see what recovery we get over the winter. Mighty weather here too Lee. Best autumn early winter in a decade I'd say
Very interesting story on how it all began Seán, I like the Donkey 😊
Well padraig would you believe it was a donkey I first tricked around with as a boy then came the ponies
Cattle, ponies and ground look great Sean. Fair play big man 👌
Thank you Michael 🙌
All your animals look healthy and happy a credit to you
Thank you Tom. Mighty weather
Very interesting info.ponies before cattle,.its working very well for you.Hope U keep at it.Did you have to dose any for fluke yet.Belties are no 1.
Looking good Sean. Are the cattle or the ponies more profitable? Keeping in mind you want to run both would you consider adding numbers in the more profitable ones and cutting in the other to maximize their potential while also keeping your system moving.
Well Ian the thing about the ponies is they could break even or get a very good price . The cattle a less volatile when it comes to market, it's all about keeping costs down and you'll get paid . I tend to carry the ponies as long as I can like the cattle they sell far better when they are reared and ready for backing
@@seanofalluinregenerativefa4569 sounds like you should cut back on the ponies and add a few cows haha
Enjoyed your story on how you started.
I would like to thank the Ponies for starting you on this journey. Have truly enjoyed this fine herd and the wondering man that shares it with us. Good day Sean
Sean I want to ask you a question I don’t want to know how much you got got for your bullock but did you get more than he would in themart
Well Denis . The truth is the smaller framed animal isn't the best seller in marts or the fact the animal was 100'/. Grass fed and finished out door all his life on a diverse ecosystem. All of that would have been lost in the mart. The further we can take the animal the better it is for the farmer. So when we take it directly to your freezer with a full history recorded of their life from birth to plate it thankfully helps financially to continue producing beef in that environmentally conscious way. So in sort yes however there's more work involved but we get paid for it 🙌
@ glad to know it paid off I’m just sorry I’m not in Ireland
your one of the few people that can out winter cattle/ponies and do it well .
Thank you lad appreciate that 🙌
Do you trade the ponies, or show them, or just have them because you like them
I send them on to a friend of mine he breaks them gets them jumping and we sell them on
Bless Friday morning from Montreal Canada .. and welcome back my friend ! .. and there you go again, absolutely another spectacular beautiful shooting filming footage compilation documentary countryside adventure and gorgeous settings presentation camera work looks super awesome super amazing view and super sharp and clearly captured ! .. thanks again and have a wonderful blessed day ahead ! ..
Could you show us your water set up again please and what type of hose you use?
I will mark 🙌
Looking great Sean. I’d love to see some of the fields the cows came off of 3-4 weeks ago and see how they look
Well Ian I'll do a bit of a walk back through. The weather has been very favourable so far thank God
Hi Sean. Do you feed out any mould in the silage to the cows?
Well Mark I peg it all out every last bit. Cows pick through it and leave what they don't want . I've actually witnessed them shake it out with the mouths too at times . I've also watched them seek out mould for eating. Has to be some want or benefit in a bit of it. Penicillin maybe
All stock looking very well especially maverick, she has really filled out. Your system suits you with the cattle and ponies. Are the calves with galloway breeding born polled ?. Just wondering. Thanks for a great update
Hi Marie yes all belties have come polled . From the cow side and rudys. I'm expecting some to have horns next year with jasper only carrying one copy of the polly gene.
Good video
Thank you my friend
Well sean its an experiment u won't no unless u try and do you try,id say its a good method but as u said time will tell, still you have grass thats natural with no added chemical fertiliser. 👍
Enjoyed today's video 📹 😅
I saw your cattle from the road yesterday, they’re looking well. I see your new Mansion is coming along nicely on the other side of the road 😂😂😂
🤫🤫🤫😉
Love it “who’s coughing” 🐂🐂 😆☀️
Bless Monday morning from Montreal QC Canada and welcome back my friend !! .. gorgeous filming edition captured camera work and as always beautiful upload and share ! .. TQ ! ..
the downside of keeping ponies difficult to sell not like cattle
Not the connemara pony. Most reliable jumping pony in the world. Big international sales on throughout the year .
They are Connemaras will always sell for good money
I have a stupid question,is it worth clipping the fields after the horses get done?
Well john no not stupid at all I thought about doing it tbh. And still might. The only thing about the rushes is they are dying off now any how. It could be an idea to clean after the second winter rotation in spring.
Roundup in a weedlicker applied when they are green & growing is the cheapest way to clear rushes.
Not a bad thing to be able to change your mind, would U be better off with good hay or haylage if you also have to feed the ponies.
Sean, I find it interesting that the ponies can find enough to satisfy themselves after the cows have taken so much off the field and deposited so much manure. From our distant view, it doesn’t look like there is enough there for the ponies but you’ve found a system that seems to work and it’s quite symbiotic which must be so important when you have limited acres. There’s great education in your videos and your creative and flexible approach to responsible farming. The fact that you produce what is premium beef (and essentially organic) from your farm is a great credit to you. 🇮🇪🇸🇬
Interesting video Sean , you’ve created your own system. Did you always have that little white Shetland pony ?
Hi do you buy in all your hay and silage I"ve never seen you make a video of you making any yourself and what does it cost over a full winter. Always enjoy your videos.👍
Well Philip yes I buy in everything. All the land I have access to I graze. There are a few reasons why I buy it in 1 I've only a small acreage 2 it allows me to graze every field all year round 3 it pays to do so as it is my fertility for the the coming year 4 I don't need to have big machinery to handle it
Thanks for that.
Good man Sean, cows are looking well. Donkey is deadly
Thank you
