This Horrifying Baking Fail Might Make You Cry.
You lost me at corn syrup. It's unhealthy and I stay away from too much corn in my diet.
My mother from Newfoundland made a version of this almost weekly with raisins in the dough that we called raisin pudding. The sauce was a very basic butter/brown sugar combination and the dough had no eggs. I found a recipe later in a book for it and it was called Poor Man's pudding. This video version looks deliciously upscale!
My RUclips friend Linda with Easy cooking with Linda B recommended you to me and I’m so glad she did! Your scotcharoos look amazing! I love how you edit your videos , I notice because I’m also a RUclips creator. 😂 Great video! 😊
Ughhh I’m diabetic. I can’t watch this 😢
Right up until the moment you poured the batter in the pan I was wondering what this was. I make a Denver pudding cake that’s baked this way.
Honestly, this video was intense in a really good way! I could feel your depth of concentration and focus as you orchestrated every movement!! Incredible!! Great camera work too!! Most definitely ASMR!
Thank goodness there is a ‘silver lining’!! Well done, Renee!! 👏🏻👏🏻
I remember a similar pudding made with golden syrup from my childhood in Australia.
OH! Golden syrup is a great idea. I may try that at some point. Love it! Thank you!
@@kitchenintheshire I've been wondering if it would work to use apple cider and put chopped-up apple in the batter.
I have been looking for this recipe, we used a whole package of butterscotch chips instead of peanut butter.. It was a favorite! My best friend and I were always baking cookies and pies in those days. Your power went out! You kept going! ❤❤❤❤ What we use our celli's for? Thanks for sharing! I use a double boiler to melt chocolate. Burning chocolate ruins it and you have to start over.
Interesting idea regarding the butterscotch chips!! A double boiler is also a nice way to melt chocolate! Thank you so much for the comments!!!
Your coping skills are off the charts! You absolutely personified "Keep.Calm And Carry On"! An amazing tutorial delivered by a chef with nerves of steel. Brava!
😂 That was a moment, for sure. Our generator never goes down like that! And thank you for the chef compliment, but I’m more like Home Cook Mimi. 😂
I suggest using a wooden spoon 🥄 for less metal on metal noise in the audio ❤
Thank you so much for this comment. Love it. Very helpful.
Hi new subscriber here from British Columbia, Canada Your video popped up to be checked out, so now im here lol, ill be trying these soon thanks
Welcome!!! Let me know how they turn out!!
No…thank YOU! Those not only look delish, they are also really pretty. Definitely going to make these. Nice save, too, Renée, when the lights went out! 🫥
Thank you so much!! They are really delicious. I was so surprised when the lights didn’t come right back on!! It was a special moment. 😂
yowza - these look scrumpdillyicous...even though i can't eat sugar much (it has to be < 10g per serving, which, um, methinks these are not), i surely want to...maybe will make for holiday guests - yum and thank you
They really are delicious! Making them for holiday guests sounds like a great idea! Thank you for the comments!
Well, well Renee…you did it again!! Now I HAVE to make these Scotcharoos!! 😄. I made your blueberry pudding twice and they came out delicious both times!! You are amazing!! ☺️. Off to the kitchen I go!!!
Yay!!! Thank you so much for the encouraging words!!! Let me know how they turn out!
@ absolutely, I will!! Perhaps, I’ll do a video as long as it is okay with you!
Love that idea!
These look incredible!! Very impressed at your calm demeanor when the power went out. The split screen shot of the generator was 😂
Yes. The power going out was a special moment. 🤣. Thankfully, they turned out ok!
I have never heard of that treat before, that will be a good treat for the coming Holidays...Thank you!
You’re welcome! They are great for the Holidays! Let me know how they turn out, if you decide to make them!
Everything you make I gotta try making, looks so good!❤😊

YUM! Love the lights out quick thinking!
They look delicious! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you. These are a definite family favorite!
ooo yum - made this last night - fabulous! thanks for the recipe!
I’m so glad you made this. I’m now going to make it for the upcoming week!! Thank you for the comments!
Thank you for this. I was wondering what to make for dessert. Subbed.
Oh yay!! How did it turn out?
I love putting sugar on top of muffins, but I usually forget. Blueberry is definitely one of my favorite muffins, and I can’t wait to try your recipe. I also like lemon poppyseed blackberry muffins. Sounds like a lot but fairly simple. Think I got the recipe from…Sally’s baking addiction.
Amazing video! This will be next on my to do list!
Ma'am! ..... poor man's pudding? Are you sure? Poor man's pudding is more like an old sweet potato that fell on the floor and rolled under the fridge and you find it 4 days later and mash it with a fork and put a sprinkle of cinnamon on it to disguise the mold. No maple syrup of any kind. This looks/sounds delicious. Thanks for passing it along.
THANK YOU for saying imperial measurements as well as the other measurements!
Renee, you are way too funny!! 🤣
To all those commenting on how expensive maple syrup is , maybe use golden syrup or thinned down jam or seasonal fruit .
Make whiskey whipped cream to put on top, yumm
People in the US... "pancake syrup" (artificially flavored corn syrup) is not Maple Syrup. That very first shot looked delicious and then you mixed maple syrup and heavy cream and I absolutely swooned. That looks incredible. I make actually make one today. Can you warm it back up after it cools? I think I could eat the whole thing but that wouldn't be a good idea. I will say, as expensive as maple syrup is in the US, that's not food for poor people down here.
… my mom used to make this cake. Ottawa Valley girl here 👵🧙🍁🥰
dan fontaine is legit. This is a rich man's poor man pudding.
I think Christmas day in your home would be a delectable feast
My 70+ year old father was visiting Montreal and was a little lost. He approached a police officer and asked for directions. The police officer wouldn’t even speak to my poor dad because my Bostonian father didn’t speak French.
These muffins look so delicious! Appreciate the tip about flouring the frozen blueberries, too. My favourites are cranberry, as well as banana & walnuts. But my parents, and partner love blueberry muffins, I’ve got all the ingredients to give them a try.
Been to Montreal a bunch. went on my honeymoon to Quebec City😊 Staid across from the Frontenac so we could look at it 🥰
This looks so good and easy thanks for the recipe. I have one question could I use either vanilla or almond extract in the place of butter extract?
My three-year-old granddaughter loves cookies but if there are raisins or chocolate chips in them she destroys the cookies picking them out first. Then she eats the rest of the cookie. I was looking for a recipe that did not have "stuff" in them but also tasted good and these fit the bill. She helps me make them and it is a plus to not have to chill the dough and we don't have to wait to bake them. She loves to add the ingredients and roll the dough in the sugar/cornmeal mixture. Great recipe. Don't leave out the butter extract!
Your recipe makes a really great cookie. I made them yesterday. Getting the butter blended into that fruit paste was a hassle, though! Since my food processor was already messy from the raisins and ginger, I used it to get that mixture blended in a flash - added the eggs at that time, too. Bonus, the processor bowl was easier to clean. The orange icing takes these cookies over the top. These are good, good, & good.
ghi from montreal glad you enjoyed our pudding chomeur i love it too.
Honeymoon at the Frontenac Hotel where dessert was memorable and simple: a thick slice of good white country bread with a dollop of unsweetened whipped cream sprinkled with maple sugar.
I love hearing your laughter, making it a truly interesting recipe. You're one of us, M'am!.
The cake looks fabulous! But it makes me lonesome for Canada. Just hearing your voice makes me wish I were there..... All those quirky, lovely, interesting foods you have. I shall be trying this recipe. Thank you for sharing.
Renee, those pumpkin spice latte bars look amazing! That shine on the glaze was just perfect!! The best part…is that they look simple enough to make!! Thank you for sharing!! 🥰
Have I to put Vanillaextrakt or may I leave it?
Thank you for sharing your recipe! Reminds me of how my Mom made her “no bake” cheesecake! I’ll be saving your video, so I can make it for her & my Dad. Mom always used a large rectangle glass dish to house hers. I never knew about the lemon juice, I’ll try that when I prepare this. Watching from Ontario, Canada. We went to Quebec City in high school. I went to Montreal, as well, with friends. We toured around with horse & buggy, they are wonderful memories.
Loose the loud music. Very distracting.
its like a pancake recipe with syrup on top!!
I absolutely loved this video!! It’s a gloomy day here on the Olympic Peninsula today (Nov. 2, 2024), and I’ve been feeling a little down in the dumps, as they say. And this video and the clever sound track had me laughing so hard I almost fell off my chair! At my age, 75 and with all sorts of problems with my hands and shoulders, I would never attempt to make bread dough. I would uber cheat by using one of those pop up doughs you can get at the store. They make ones for breadsticks, and they are pretty darn good. But, again, gotta say I loved this video. Thank you, Renee, and thanks to whoever did the soundtrack to you kneading! 😂😂
Woozy bottle - I worked for Kroger Corporate in Cincinnati for a few years and one of my buyers was the one who purchased containers for many of the Kroger products made in their food manufacturing plants (Kroger is the largest producer of food items in the United States from bakery items sent to the stores to all the canned and bottled products like green beans and such). I mention all this because Kroger is where I learned the word "woozy" as the easier to say, shortened version of the word Worchestershire sauce. Everyone at Kroger uses the term "woozy" to refer to that longer named sauce! Just a little bit of my own "history" with that word. I won't swear it originated at Kroger, but it was and is used regularly because it's so much easier to say!
