Basement Home Gym Tour 2024
Come along with me on a brief Basement Home Gym Tour to show the current state of my home gym. There have been many changes over the last 5 years but I feel like I have an efficient setup for my style of training. During this gym tour, I show the equipment used, the setup and use of the small space and even how I store some pieces out of the way. My basement space is rather limited, but this home gym tour shows how storage methods are key getting the most out of your space.

BOSs deadlift jack with rollers

Version 2.0 of Bells of Steel's (BOSs) deadlift jack with rollers is a decent offering for a budget price. This deadlift jack is basic, but does a great job of making your deadlift sessions more efficient. This latest version now has rollers to easily center your bar on the jack or platform and is a great upgrade that doesn't affect the price point. Find out if this deadlift jack with rollers i...

Train with me while I attempt a new Bench Rep Max Personal Record. I end this block's Rep Max attempt week with an attempt at a new PR and hopefully back to where I was 2 years ago. Due to some old injuries, Bench press has been my toughest lift and I think I'm on the road to redemption. Will I be able to hit a new Bench PR on the platform in May? Let's train!

Don't avoid Heavy Dumbbells Mad Spotter Pro Dumbbell Hangars Are Here To Help!
I hate the loose fit. They are loose on my Prime rack, so it isn't a metric issue. It isn't loose because there is only a single wrap, as my stock Prime J-hooks (original, not 2.0) are VERY tight and those are the exact same design: a single wrap with the pin above. Ghost hooks are loose because they are too large. The Prime hooks aren't loose because they pinch the upright tightly, like after your washer tip. Now I'm off to add some washers, thanks for the idea!
Happy to help!
I’m not a structural engineer but I was a welder for a few years. Those welds on the original seem more than adequate to do the job they are intended to do, as long as the weld is properly done.
I would agree but better to be safe than sorry (from a liability standpoint).
I got the black mad dog slingshot XXL iam 6 foot 248 pounds fits perfect i can even have my elbow sleeves on with them on my bench pr is 320 but when i have the slingshot on i can bench 365 i knoe thats not my pr but it does help with your bench but i knoe thats not my pr
Yeah, the ability to overwork the pecs with the aid of the slingshot is useful!
My calves are 15”. Thinking of sizing down to a L instead of XL pioneers, should I buy true to size instead?
I would definitely buy true to size! Most feel they run small/tight and you will feel like they are super tight or too small to begin with. Going down in size may be impossible to get on.
My calves are also 15” and I ordered an XL. Was able to pull them on but they were impossible to remove. I even used pliers to grab onto the material and could not get them past my calves again. Once my feet started going numb I cut them off. I recommend going to a XXL.
@@dho.onthesteel Thanks for sharing! It's hard to relate to the size of these until you have them.
Still relevant today, amazing video.
Appreciate that, glad you found it helpful.
Solid work right there.
Thanks Cuz!
I’m thinking about getting these, they will serve my purpose for all my lighter dumbbell exercises. I love my Pepin dumbbell handles, they will still serve me on anything heavier than 60 pounds.
Yeah, Joel, they're pretty good and simple to use. I also like the fact that they get shorter with the lighter weights, rather than maintaining a long skeleton.
I always thought good form was arms at a 90..Monday I did it like I normally do 90 degrees and in the front of my rotator after doing 325 for 2..my shoulder was in pain and I couldn't do dips the next day ..I ordered on Monday
That's a strong bench Nick! I hope this helps!!
I just pulled the trigger on this, they are running a 10 percent off discount right now and I’ve been considering getting it this year anyway. I’m looking forward to using it for my leg extensions and curls.
Nice grab buddy! I hope you enjoy using it!
Nice fix!
Thanks.
Good to hear about your customer service experience. Glad it was a good one. I can echo that. On my second order of plates from Hansu, one of the 10kg plates was missing. Package ripped open, cardboard sleeve present but the plastic wrapper and the plate itself had dropped out. I emailed them a photo and without trouble they mailed a new pair of 10kgs. Those arrived in great condition (so I have 3 now, actually 5 including my first order). Customer service was great.
Glad to hear your experience was positive as well.
Such a goated review. So thorough. Thank you!
My pleasure, appreciate the kind words!
Wouldn’t you think you can get full range of motion if you were standing say the rouge t bar box.
Absolutely and I thought of buying it just for that, but ultimately changed my mind.
@ I think I’m going to go that route and get it. And for the front end of the belt squat lifting up, are you able to put a 100lb dumbbell on top of it to keep it down?
@ I couldn’t say because I’ve never tried it. It also depends on how you setup your rack: I have mine on horse stall mats so if you are on a flat surface and there is no sinking into rubber, you may be able to get better alignment and then tighten it down better so it doesn’t lift.
Great video. My Flat bench is based on the old school routine of 5 sets of 5 reps. After several workouts using the red sling shot on approx. 35% of my sets, I determined that it gives me the ability to bench 35 pounds more weight. I do my first 3 sets of 5, without the sling shot and then add my 35lbs. and do 2 more sets with the sling shot. Through trial and error, this has been my most successful routine using the sling shot without becoming dependent on it.
Great plan!
Iam 6 foot tall and weigh 248 what size and fit slingshot should i get good review too i just subbed
That’s tough to say. You weigh 15 lbs more than me so sounds like you’re stockier - therefore I’d suggest one size up from mine. However, that’s just a rudimentary guess on my part without knowing what you truly look like.
Question. If you have the lat low row weight stack system. Can you get by with out the front feet on a 4 post rack or would you still need the feet unless you went with the 6 post rack?
I don't think you'll "need" the front feet, but it is nice to have for insurance.
Great gym👌
Thanks!
Appreciate the honest and great review of your channel! Awesome that rep added the selector upgrade to the plate loaded build at nearly the same cost! I’ll smash the sub button for you!
Thanks and always my pleasure
I train bench twice a week and i only use on one of those days when im almost maxed out on weight..and then go to failure. Then drop the weight and go again to failure and then again with reduced weight. The days i dont use I bench big and can feel the difference. Im not reliant on it its an aide not a constant.
Smart
So I am curious about these racks since my ceiling clearance is borderline. Theyre advertised as 93" but Ive heard the boxes they come in actually say 90" and they empirically measure 92"... Can anymore confirm???
I couldn’t say myself, but if anyone knows please chime in.
Getting ready to build my home gym and this review just solidified my decision to go with the PR4000. Thanks for the detailed review!
My pleasure
I’m looking to buy the selectorized for my pr4000. On installation do you need to worry about anchoring the attachment to the ground or will it bolt down to the rack good enough?
Bolting to rack is sufficient
This is the absolute best detailed information about the pr4000
Thanks Harold
Where in PA are you from?
Just north of Philly in Lower Bucks
This is my favorite basement gym because of the exceptional use of a small space and the premium feel of it all. I’ve seen countless home gyms and have one of my own so I love watching these. The way you set things up is top notch
Really appreciate the kind words Benjamin!
Hi Marcus. I would really appreciate your help on choosing the right size for my Stoic knee sleeves. My knee is 37cm, so according to the size chart I should get a medium (36.5-39 cm). But I am a bit worried it will be loose as the small size is 33.5-36 cm. Should I go for medium or small? I am a beginner, so I am gaining muscle faster. This would be my first knee sleeves, so I don’t want it to be too tight. Thanks in advance.
If Stoic has not changed their design since I purchased mine a few years back, then these are more pliable than the newer generation of sleeves from Pioneer and SBD, as well as others. That said, it’s better to go smaller when falling between 2 sizes because they break in over time and won’t feel as tight in 6 months as they did on day 1. The newer types are less forgiving and break in slightly, but not nearly as much as my Stoics did. I could have gone a size smaller on my Stoics because they slide right on without having to fold the top & bottom first. Good luck!
@@twistedbarbell3950 Thanks so much. One more question if you don’t mind. Does our knee joint circumference change as we get stronger/muscular ?
@@shiropadipto701 doubtful and if it did, the sleeve would continue to break in with any growth. Not a whole lot of muscle tissue around the knee itself and it’s extremely challenging to add size to the calf. The only part that may grow would be the lower quadriceps, where the sleeve is the largest anyway.
@@twistedbarbell3950 Thank you; buying small. Keep up the good work, Marcus.
That's a solid setup for a gym!
Thanks!
Bought this jack based solely off of this review. Extremely pleased with my purchase, thank you for the thorough overview. I too wanted the Kleva initially, but after owning this I don’t think there is a need to spend more than twice as much for it.
Glad the review was helpful and that you’re happy with the jack.
Very nice place!!
Thanks!
great vid.
Thanks
Great video! Awesome gym too! I have QuickDraws also. You have no issues with Bowflex stand? I think rep is coming out with a stand for the reppin and QuickDraw, supposedly for both, and I was thinking of getting something that works in case they don’t come out with a multi functioning stand.
Thanks Jason and yes, no issues with the Bowflex stand
Excellent review!
Thanks John
Very nice
Thanks
Love the color schemes. Everything comes together so well!
Thank you!
Thanks for the video. What's the reason why you've switched your Darko Lifting Barbell Anchor to The Dock?
Thanks for watching. At my height and with the 83" uprights, I sometimes hit the anchor with plates when walking out squats. The dock is tucked nicely at the back, instead, but both are great.
Great tour and use of the space! I like how you sold your Rogue Echo Bike in favor of the Peleton. I just did the opposite. But at the end of the day, people should do the exercises they like! Looking forward to the review of the Freak Athlete.
thank you! Yes, it's funny you mention the Peloton because the guy who bought my Rogue Echo says he was selling his Peleton!
Very Nice 👌🏼!
Thanks
That is an amazing set up. I don’t think you could have designed it any better. Fully functional and tons of capability. Impressive!
Thanks 🙏
Do you still have your x-mark barbell? I’ve had mine for a few years now and I love it!
I do not actually. Guy who bought my Rogue echo bike asked if he could buy some bars off me and I sold him the pair of XMarks (Olympic and ez curl).
Why was the head ref tapping your shoulders on your 3rd bench?
I’m hearing impaired…I always ask them to make sure I could hear their commands over all of the crowd noise and music, so they often agree to tap me on commands, which is nice!
Nice, digging that Ghost Strong barbell jack, jelly!
Yeah, it’s unfortunate they don’t make/sell them anymore
I did pull the trigger on my 80in rep rack with the plate loaded lat/low row thanks to your reviews. Used your link. I also found their double black diamond power bar in full stainless for $320 in their Death Valley/Clearance. Like you just mentioned, the stainless steel upgrade is worth it. I was on the fence about the curl bar but I think I'm going to pull the trigger during Black Friday. I'll make sure to use the link. Thanks again.
I’m glad my reviews have helped you with your choices. That’s a great deal on the double black diamond bar - congrats! Also appreciate your use of my affiliate link!
Great home gym, Marcus! If the fat pad came with the ML bench press then they account that for. From Rogue website: Please Note: No matter which pad option you choose, it will measure a standard 17.5” off the ground. Units ordered with a fat pad are shipped with a shorter front foot and back crossmember to maintain this consistent pad height.
Thanks Jose. Yeah, that’s what I was supposed to get, and was assured it would be the right height, but it wasn’t.
Great job presenting these dumbells with your review, demonstration, and honest opinion. Thank You
Thanks and My pleasure
Nice 🏋♂️
Thanks ✌
Yes! Love it! 🫡
Thanks
Thanks for the update! Keep it coming!!!
You bet!
Sweet setup! Do you prefer the Rep round sandwich J cups or the flat sandwich J cups?
Tough one to choose...The flats are great, but there's a lot of surface for the bar to roll forward and backwards. The rounds solve that problem by having just a channel for the bar, but the front lip is a bit tall. They each have their merits and faults.
Nice gym!
Thanks!
I have found an awkward resistance when i get to 140lbs or higher on the up and down motion of the weight. Not sure why that is the case. It glides super smooth at 130 or under.
That’s definitely odd. I would inspect your cables inch by inch. The extra stress of weight over 130 may be twisting/kinking your cables. Good luck
