16mm Kodachrome movie film had just been introduced by Kodak. This was the same filmstock used to create Viewmaster reels, which also appeared that year. Suddenly color film was available to the masses, and the World's Fair was a great subject. We're fortunate that this footage has been preserved - acetate film stock is not a permanent medium.

Fantastic quality! I believe my father went there ... You can imagine the impression that would have made on a 10 year old boy at the time!

A little difficult to tell, but it looks like the train was painted in Pennsylvania Railroad Tuscan Red with gold stripes? Would have been VERY appropriate for Pittsburgh! 😊

Learned to drive, weaving around those tracks! Remember the trolley driver had to get out and reach up and put the electrical arm back on the cable when it jumped off. The way I remember it it only happened occasionally, but the first time it happened to me I thought "what the heck happened"?

I've been going to Kennywood since the 1960s, and have taken my kids & grand-kids there even though I lived out-of-state. Can anyone tell me more about the chimp on the merry-go-round? Was he a daily fixture there?

I was looking for the "you have to be as tall as the Howdy Doodie" stand up at the ride entrances. Loved going to Kennywood, especially when it started to get dark and the lights came on.

Hey, look at that red Edsel following the streetcar at 5:27! I love that "down and dirty" shot from inside a PCC streetcar starting at 6:59 apparently going over a bridge with an approaching PCC on the left and the steel mill building in the background. "Pure Pittsburgh." Thanks for sharing this film of not only Pittsburgh streetcars but also of the people from back in the day, the vintage vehicles and buildings/businesses! Glad I rode on a couple of Pittsburgh PCC's back in the summer of 1982 when I was attending ultrasonics school at that time.
