What is the Kurzweil Pitcher? A Comb Filter in disguise?
A RUclips user asked if the Pitcher from Kurzweil is really just a Comb Filter. I just had to find out what's really going on with that effect.......and how it can be used.

What the Hell happened to Guitar Hero???
I recall reading an interview with Carlos around 1987 where he described newer Boogies (Mark III) as harsh, trebly, and annoying. And I couldn't agree with him more. I hated the Mark III and up. I couldn't stan the Rectos. The only Boogie I owned was a 50 Caliber combo. I loved that amp. It was along the lines tonally of a good modded Marshall, something like a Soldano. My issue with the amp was that it was too compressed. I couldn't get the kind of big, bright, open distortion I could get out of a good modded Marshall or Soldano. I was playing in hard rock/metal bands on the Sunset Strip in those days and the 50 Cal served me very well. A big, loud sound from a smaller box, easier to movie than a Marshall stack, not half as heavy as a Mark III combo, and a lot better sounding to my ears. I can understand of a player like Carlos, a professional legend who knows what he likes and can get anything, chooses to leave one company for another. He's going to us what serves his tone best. Randall knew what Carlos likes and as he's not with the company anymore, I can see why he moved on to greener pastures. The music won't wait.
I’ve never played a Mark III but it seems to be the least liked of all Marks. Even more interesting is the other guitar player in Santana’s band. Saw them 2022. That guy plays a Rectifier. I couldn’t believe it, but it worked in Carlos’s band. 👍🤪
No. 1.

that was a good one lol

"Don't recommend this channel." 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You literally have the worst pfp I've ever seen in my whole history on YT
I'll take a Burny, thanks...
Appreciate the analysis, but I'm curious how these sound on program material or tracks. That buzzing fly noise doesn't really give me a reference on how or where to use it. Thanks
Yes that's the most important question, how does it sound on a track for example. If you watch towards the end of the video, I use it while playing a synth pad. I patched a rotary encoder to the fundamental pitch in the Pitcher, and played a simple melody over the Pad. It's quite fun to do. This is the last minute or so of the video.
Zzzzzzz So this is a GUITAR Effect box. Not a recording studio reverb unit.
It’s a studio FX unit, the majority of the Fx are verbs. Quite a good unit actually
So maybe show a mix or something with it. I have a few guitars, but I am a touring fiddler. I have a studio with a real console that I bought from a founding member of the Doobie Brothers who I had business arrangements with. I have been looking around for another reverb to accent my current ones, but not to use as a guitar effect. I use a PCM 70 and a Sony R7 now. I can use more reverbs in mixes as long as they have Gates. I have gates here, but it is easier to use something like the PCM 70 that can gate itself. All I see on RUclips are a bunch of goofy guitar players showing off with different reverbs. I can play electric. I have a custom made stereo amp that can send 400 watts her half stack on my Marshall cabs. I never use reverb on that because when you do the sound gets lost in the room. I can use a 240 ms delay. That works without getting lost. Your presentation convinced me that the Kurzweil is not going to pay off for me. It is made for guitar players and not recording studios. In a mix you have a soundscape. Like a landscape only with sounds, and the sounds are placed in different sonic environments. It sets each singer or musician apart from the other AND without masking the others. This is done with gates, delays, reverbs and pans. To have a company design the interface by using note references tells you everything. How many techs know music nomenclature? I would say, from my experience, NONE. They come in from more of an engineering side. They understand ms and frequency. Musicians are all about making their performance sound impressive. Recording engineers and producers are all about making the recording sound impressive.
Sounds incredible.
Thank you, I really appreciate it. It sounds better when used Live.
When you see a guy shaking his hands, get out.
Did you update replace the screens on your KSP-8 and the remote? Same screen on both. Buy two.
You're a cheater. You had your fun and dumped it.

@@SaintLuminus never sell your gear
Great Video. Love your channel! It’s Hybrid for me with or without pedals. I play in 4 different bands/projects. A backup for a fusion, rock, Americana, jazz funk band. My own trio. My wife’s project; a wedding band and a 60’s thru early 2000’s Decades Cover band. Good part is songs cross over with three of the band projects. So I need pedals for filling sonic space and tones. But for the Trio, only the amp. It really is preference. Walter Trout and Keith Richards approach to this does make sense. “Your volume and tone knobs as Joe Bonamassa says are your first pedals for sounds really.” No one needs pedals but they sure can be fun to use.
😬😬😬😬
Just got this for $80, fantastic presentation, really informative.
The unit is ridiculously good. You can tell it was created by a bunch of very clever people.
This was great! I loved it. Part of what makes it so funny is that it's pretty spot on. No matter what speakers/ headphones i use, stuff always sounds different in person in my own rig. Thanks for the laughs. Keep up the good work!
Hey thanks Tony. Yeah I'm just having some fun here with some good natured ribbing. Oh yes, I just recorded a live performance video, and its so fascinating how different the recording is compared to what I was actually hearing & most importantly feeling on stage. Wild stuff sometimes. Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed the vid, appreciate it.
😊question,what gaize strings used...?
Can this get good metal tones at low volume with traditional speaker cab, but without an attenuator? I hear people say bad things about EL84 tubes.
I have 2 of these coming in June for my Axe Fx III. Using Marshall sounds for a Pat Travers Tribute band. Can't wait to hear them loud and proud with the A/DA Flanger and Strymon Lex in stereo. The waiting IS the hardest part..
Ohhhhh, I be that would sound amazing. For sure.....waiting is really hard to do.
Thanks for the video. May I ask you some questions? 1) was the plethora connected to the Amp FX Loop? How did you get the stereo sound? Many thanks
The Plethora is connected to the front of the amp in mono. The amp is connected to a loadbox, then I take the line out of the loadbox to a small mixer where I mix in stereo effects. The stereo mix goes to a stereo SS amplifier then on to two speaker cabs. There's other ways to achieve stereo but this is how I did it when I made this video.
@@SaintLuminus Thanks a lot for your reply. I was thinking of connecting the Plethora to the FX Loop of my mono ampli and then sending to the PA the stereo out of the Plethora3 (enriched with the embedded cab rig sim) and using the cabinet of the ampli as my monitor.
@@alessiograziani6355 You still have to have a return to the amp or you won’t get any sound to the cab. I have redone my stereo rig using two amps and the Fx loop. I plan on doing a vid on that soon
@@SaintLuminus ok, I'll wait for this video, because I really like your sound in this video. Many thanks again
@@alessiograziani6355 🙏 Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.

Marks are amazing amps...and this is without the most powerful tone shaping control. \m/
Absolutely! In fact I went through the Andy Timmons Mkv 25 video with Doug West again, and had some aha moments. Also went back through the manual again today, and it gave me more ideas. As you know, the tonal options are nearly limitless.
Saw Mr.Trout early this year he was boring as shit. He was shredding the blues for most of the gig and his amp sound was really monotonous. if anyone needed some pedal relief it was him. His Mesa Boogie amp sounded thin and harsh a Marshall amp would have been much better.
You need to make an appointment to have the wax dug out of your ears.
@@padfoliowould getting rid of the wax get his solos out of the minor pentatonic scale.
Take a look on 'Rig Rundown - Carlos Santana', where Santanas pedalboard is shown (871 second). This shows that he has been using the Dumble an Bludotone Amps for many years (see 2009 on top of the board). ruclips.net/video/MBNm0Ax4Vzc/видео.html
Yes, and notice that his Mesa snakeskin MkI is also used in that video
Your sarcasm is amazing 👏 😉
Haha. I’ll take that as a compliment. 🤪 Thanks for watching, appreciate it
@SaintLuminus , It is a compliment! You did a great job man! 👍
@@XPJV 🙏 I felt the guitar community could use a little good natured ribbing. lol. Thanks again.
Was this supposed to be funny? 🤷♂️
It’s satire.
Love the satire here. I’d say we all need more gear reviews like this.
Hey thanks Jerry. It’s all in good fun, and sometimes things get ridiculous on gear forums like The Gear Page. I was hoping people would have a sense of humor. Indeed, if you like it….more to come. Thanks for letting me know 🙏🙏
@@SaintLuminus Well done, sir. Even though I am an unrepentant gear head, a good laugh at myself and the doofy cork sniffery in the community is darn healthy, I’d say.

Hmm I wonder if the 3 H90's was a stab at me lol.
Well the video is meant to be good natured ribbing. 😆We guitarists are a funny bunch.
@@SaintLuminus I still have no regrets for my 3 H90's :P
@@BrockDavisson man, I have 2 H90s. One for the front of the amp. One for the stereo effects for post am. I run a stereo rig.
I'm still a Digitech fan, but I'm currently grooving on the Amplitube.
I have the Digitech Ricochet. Great & fun product
Ive been playing for several years and play all kinds of music and see no reason for such an expensive delay with so many crazy options. Just give me a quality sounding simple delay that’s all you need. A lot of people buy these and barely use 3/4 of what it can do such a waste.
@@BkBk-gy6vr Most guys will buy a pedal like this because its brand new and looks cool on their board.
@@BkBk-gy6vr Good thing it's NOT a delay.... lol
@@BrockDavisson oh gee you got me there buddy ok I meant Reverb. Yep your one that wasted your money.
5000 $ for a Bludotone ... I am not surprised by the price, when you see Mesa Boogie charges you 3000 $ for the little Mark V 25 10" combo ....
Dumble , Dumble, Dumble.....Klon, Klon,KLon....2 things i'm sick of hearing about ... Now Bludotone ?? who the hell is that ?
That looks like rosewood man cause pau ferro is usually lighter orange. But if thats pau ferro, u lucky bastard!
Unless you think Suhr is lying about the fretboard wood. I’m going by what Suhr is stating. In the end, how does the guitar play??? Like a dream 👍🎶
@@SaintLuminus yessir! U actually r very lucky cus i went on reverb and the pau ferro fretboards are usually very light with sometimes a semi dark one. Yours i very dark and it looks very nice and tight. Some ppl say pau ferro tonality is between rosewood and ebony which is very desirable! I love everything bout that Standard u got there!
@@kenny69lover What I can say is that I most definitely love the sound and feel of this guitar. Still finding new sounds on this one. :)
Well done.
Thank you! Glad it was something you enjoyed. :)
I would've listened to this all shrooomed out
Well I did ask my audience that night to collectively take a ride with me up into the Heavens. Glad you would've come along.
Excellent effects! It woulda been amazing if you could have done this while driving a Mitsubishi Eclipse and playing Yngwie Malmsteen's "Eclipse" on an ESP Eclipse. Okay I'll stop... :D
That’s too much eclipse for 1 video 🤪😂😂
This song absolutely rocks
Hell Yes! I tried playing this way back when I first started playing guitar. I'm it sounded like ass, but it was so much fun to try and play it! Fantastic tune!
We've gone from "Play something fast!" to "Play something tasty!"
I certainly hope more people want to hear something tasty. What about tasty and fast?????
Hey man, just outta curiosity what’s the difference between the chord mode and regular? I’ve never seen anybody talk about that besides you on here. Thinkin about picking one of these up soon!
Claasic mode is the classic Whammy algorithm. Great for single note solos. Chord mode is a modern algorithm from the Whammy DT. Of course its best for raising/lowering the pitch of whole chords. But rules are always meant to be broken. With the Classic Mode, you'll find more artifacts when trying manipulate chords. However you might find the artifacts pleasing. Vice versa, you may find the Chords mode sounds great on single notes.
@@SaintLuminus alright perfect thank you! You just got a new subscriber:)
@@lennoncarroll6805 🙏 Thanks so much, appreciate it. More stuff to come. 👍👍
I Have had this great pedal for more than 3 years and now I found those chord mode... manuals are made to be read! 😮😅
@@javiermg2988 Yeah manuals can provide some good information. We are at a weird point nowadays because most guitarists don't want to read manuals. So most companies are putting out manuals with very little information. Its weird.
Great understanding of what Les did in 1948. My birthday was in 1942 and I had listened to all of these recordings when I was at the age of 9 or 10. Little did I know in 1960 I would meet Les at the front door of his house, but didn't realize it was him. I thought it was a a carpenter working at his house. Les was always incognito and always answered his door when someone would knock. The story would get even more important when he came to see my family The Doyles perform in1965. That was the fateful day he asked me and my sister to come up to his house. It started the 45 years of working with him as his Luthier, engineer at Fat Tuesdays and both Iridiums and also co inventor.
Whaaattt? Holy Moly! What a story! Thank you for sharing this gem. I appreciate it. Really I think every single electric guitar player owes a debt of gratitude to Les and Leo Fender.
Pareces un brujo
Your playing got smoother since the last demo I watched of this amp. I own one as well but haven't been able to get to it often enough because I'm staying with my 94yr old father and it is at my condo down Philly. 45min. away. Playing out of a little 10w Blackstar. Yeah , 2 different animals for sure and my Strat. Have all my pedals at my house and a PRS McCarty 594 10 top. Sure am missing all those goodies but it's a pretty easy decision to keep him out of a home. Sorry bout the rant and thanks for another run through !!
Thank you, yes I work on smoothing out my playing on a daily basis. Thanks for sharing your story. Yeah this amp can be crazy loud for a room or an apartment.
Whatever sounds good is good 🎸🔊🔊
Most definitely 👍
Awesome, the only pedal that gets as close to a divebomb without a floyd. Plan on using it for obnoxiousness kerry king type solos in my deathgrind band.
Absolutely!!! I use it for a divebomb, but also to go up an octave because you generally can’t do that with a whammy bar.
Sound solid as hell ngl
Thank you, I appreciate it 🙏🎸
The badcat jet black is amazing !!
Oh man. Dying absolutely dying to try one out. 🎸🎶
I own the 212 cabinet and when you apply the use of low and high cut eq the cabinet sings and sounds absolutely incredible. As much as real cabs have more definition and clarity, for a musician who needs to play a wide range of genres and sounds the Laney LFR 212 is an excellent choice of speaker to pair with a modeller. Guthrie and Jack Gardner both use these cabinets and sound great through them. I am a function band musician myself and these cabinets are perfect for that kind of gig.
Thanks for this 👍 I’m very interested in trying one out some day.
Love the level of detail in exploring this amp. I've had one since first released and it's been amazing. Hate how difficult RUclips made it to find this when searching for videos related to this amp though!
Yeah I really think this amp is underrated. Even after all of these years of ownership, I'm still finding new tones. Thank you for watching, appreciate it.
Les called his invention, his 'little black box', and Eddie Van Halen asked Les where he could get himself a 'little black box'. That was from the 80s HBO special, "Les Paul and Friends", and the the friends included Eddie, Brian Setzer, Steve Miller, BB King, David Gilmore. That's all that I can remember, right now, but there's some great guitar playing going on.
Nice! I’ll have to check that out. 👍
@@SaintLuminus Jan Hammer is there, too, and plays a lot. Carly Simon, also. I think. Everybody played a couple of their own songs, mostly. Jeff Beck and Imelda May do a nice tribute to Les Paul and Mary Ford, on the first half of "Jeff Beck's Rock and Roll Party" video, that you might enjoy.
