    • @SourPlanet
      @SourPlanet 2 месяца назад

      Hi! So at 1:54 I'm using a mask. I put a mask on the tree layer and then I selected the mask. I switched to a brush which is good for leaf shapes and I painted on the layer while the mask is selected. Since my foreground color is black, anywhere I added paint to the mask hides the layer content. Using this method I can take the simple original shape of the tree and "cut" leaf silhouettes out. At 3:44 I'm simply painting below all the other layers with a big fuzzy soft round brush. This changes the sky color while the layers above in the layers panel remain unaffected.

    I'm so happy to have come across this video. THANK YOU this saves me so much time on cell shading in photoshop! Also I wanted to say your final result came out awesome. How were you using "levels" and "hsl" at 16:30 for the sky reflection? I think it's so interesting how many layer styles used for the rendering. I'm so use to using these more for photography and retouching I never thought to see these tools utilized for painting the way you did it!

    • @SourPlanet
      @SourPlanet 5 месяцев назад

      You're welcome! Yeah, I use a ton of photo editing features. Helps the painting have more variety and subtle tones. For the sky, I used an adjustment layer at the top of the soldier's clipping stack. So it effects everything related to the soldier. I tinted everything to be a lot more blue. Adjustment layers come with a mask attached to them, so I filled that mask with black-- which hides the effect completely. Then I grabbed a brush and painted white into the mask of the adjustment layer where ever I wanted ambient blue skylight on the soldier. White on the mask reveals the adjustment layers effect, which "paints" the blue tint into our view.

    • @SourPlanet

      I haven't investigated vector tools in Krita at all yet. I've been using Affinity Designer for vector. They have a vector brush engine. Every single stroke is a vector. Which means you can change the brush tip *after* making a mark. You can also change the shape of the mark, as it's just a series of editable points. It's pretty amazing! But yeah, Krita has come a LONG WAY since I last used it. Leveled up very similar to Blender. Now they make a perfect duo.

      It wasn't too specific to 2.34, but I did use a more cinemascope resolution. What I usually do is make a new canvas that's 239 wide by 100 tall. Then I go to image>image size in the menu and resize to a larger resolution. I base that resize choice on how much detail I need. If I'm just sketching, then probably 1200 wide and 72px res. This keeps the file nimble while I sketch. Later on- at detail phase- I size up to something more like 4k res.

      Yes, that's true. I didn't even think of it because I do often lay in flats then start editing the palette by just double tapping each layer. I've been exploring the properties dialogue a lot lately. Some powerful tools showing up there! Especially on raster layers.

    Thank you for a tutorial that has given me the knowledge that exist within a great teacher. I may be late finding this, but I'm glad I did. Again, thank you for the lesson.

      Very welcome! It's a simple thing, but so many tiny steps to make it actually work out.

      I've learned in life that the simplest things can often be the most difficult to learn and master, that's why I was so grateful for your tutorial. You made it easy to follow and understand, allowing me to be productive with my blender experience. Thank you so much. @@SourPlanet
