  • After over 20 years in Photoshop, I'm switching over to Krita. I don't really agree with Adobe's direction as a company, but also using a totally free app really aligns with my mentality for this channel.
    So content will refocus on Blender and Krita as the POWER DUO free programs for this channel. Onward!

    Krita is becoming better and better! ❤
    I wish they add vector layer that can be drawn using brush other than calligraphy brush. Someone is already requesting it, I hope they will add it soon

      I haven't investigated vector tools in Krita at all yet. I've been using Affinity Designer for vector. They have a vector brush engine. Every single stroke is a vector. Which means you can change the brush tip *after* making a mark. You can also change the shape of the mark, as it's just a series of editable points. It's pretty amazing!
      But yeah, Krita has come a LONG WAY since I last used it. Leveled up very similar to Blender. Now they make a perfect duo.

      @@SourPlanet I never tried affinity, it sounds like what clip studio paint does! Every stroke of brush is vector, you can change size, type of brush, pinch it in midway unlike raster layer, it was awesome feature!
      Yes! Open source community really awesome, what they have achieved so far make them even more competitive in properiarty program.
      Blender is great
      Krita catching up
      Godot too

    Well, then I'd say welcome to the Krita Gang, my dude.
    I switched myself from Clip Studio Paint when I converted my setup to Linux so we may learn this together ^^
    Already found some pretty nice settings in the brush engine and interesting things in the filter menus.

      Love me some Clip Studio. My favorite paid app for sure.
      Krita brush engine is super fun. Whatever it lacks from Photoshop it more than makes up for in actual usability. I haven't messed with Filters at all yet. I'll check 'em out!

      @@alex_oiman I totally understand. Switching career paths myself. I work with a lot of students and a lot of them are having similar concerns for sure.
      I don't feel like there's a good answer currently. The players in tech are embracing oblivion and ignoring the ramifications, as always.
      I think our tiny little gain is that art for arts sake is making a comeback in a big way. Of course we have to ignore massive problems to even see that... but it's there, and we can face it for some relief.

    great to see more people leaving photoshop. regardless of where they land.
    i switched to krita 4 years ago and basically made a full switch to linux entirely going on 2 years now

      Photoshop really has moved in Stockholm Syndrome territory. They were on top for SO LONG that people can't imagine anything else being good. Same for Wacom tablets.
      It's totally possible to get a Cintiq alternative for under $200 and a free painting app, and use it for pro work. It's my hope that people will see that and continue to ditch Photoshop. Their stance on AI is untenable, imo.

    Amazing! I love krita anda blender. I tried many programs like Photoshop and Corel painter, but I never felt confortable with any of those programs

    • @SourPlanet
      @SourPlanet  10 месяцев назад

      I could definitely see that. Krita is a very "slim" app. Blender is the same way. They whittled down the feature set to be robust yet not bloated - and kept the interface uncluttered.

    Krita is a great program. I have clip studio and krita and jump back and forth depending on which tools I like to use. Clip studio the only tool I wish I had in krita is the vector blob kinda brush. can draw a shape and it instantly fills with the foreground color. doing lasso and then filling it with a color is the same kinda thing but breaks my flow.

    • @SourPlanet
      @SourPlanet  10 месяцев назад

      I also jump back and forth.. and totally agree about the lasso fill thing. Every program should have that tool. It's simply incomparable. I'd probably pay the cost of CS just to have it in Krita ha.

      @SourPlanet Its quite a bit better than the photoshop timeline I’ve found. Especially for drawing and layer handling. Dermot O Connor has great videos showing how use the timeline to traditionally animate in Krita

    what about Gimp?

    • @SourPlanet
      @SourPlanet  10 месяцев назад +1

      I mention it briefly in the video. I have tried Gimp a few times over the years. It's never felt right for me. I gave it one last shot and simply couldn't get pressure sensitivity working correctly on either my laptop (Wacom EMR) nor my workstation (XP-pen). Figured if it was meant to be it woulda been by now.
      Krita, on the other hand, went smoothly right from the getgo. So I took off running with it and decided to permanently shelve Gimp.

    • @TacoBear_Studios
      @TacoBear_Studios 10 месяцев назад +1

      @SourPlanet Understandable I also tried gimp but for some strange reason it like having being used to Fruit Loops and downgrading to fruit rings, an off-brand cereal.
