Hey I know it may be a bit weird to mention another youtube source as an answer to something you have raised. But I do have one. The idea is to stabilize your buttonbands (so they don't pull sideways and "scallop") by sewing in a piece of ribbon to stabilize it. We ofton see it in commercial sweaters. Here is useful video from anoother caster I follow. . ruclips.net/video/4Z0juhk7kwY/видео.html . Maybe this could be useful--or not...

OK I'm watching this a few days late. So my comments might not really matter, even from the last post I sent. On black v. brown: I believe you are overall a more chocolate brown person than a black one. That said, that wonderful black vest with the diagonal button bands will look fabulous on you and complement many outfits. Just my opinion.

About the lovely skirt: I'd prefer the vent to the side-slits; they don't have to be as long as your model skirt (but could be); my advice is to avoid funny-looking overlaps, etc. by NOT doing ribbing [point off this kind of vent--inobtrusive], but just the simplest smallest finish that could avoid the rolling that stockinette likes to do. Could a crochet finish do that? I don't know. Your on-line pronouncer is wrong!!!!! Accent on second syllable: Clem--At-is. [name of a flower.]

in regards to the info in the corner, I usually watch on my phone, so couldn't read it at all last week - in fact I almost didn't notice it amongst the knitting-while-watching. This week I'm watching on my laptop and it is still quite small, especially in the type of font you've used. You could also have this info in the video description or links to your projects on ravelry perhaps?

I completely understand the button issue - when you spend tens of hour working on a knit or sewn piece of clothing, you don't want to use mediocre buttons. Since I am a ceramicist, I just started making my own. I even do custom glazes for them to match my fabric, because why not 🙃✨️

Hey Nora, in regards to your idea of adding a slit in the back of your skirt I would recommend a technique I used recently in a striped cardigan I knit. When you are knitting flat you knit selvage stitches on either edge. Right side rows: k1, slip 1 with yarn in front, k1, then continue in stockinette to last 3 stitches K1, sl1 wyif, k1. Wrong side rows: sl1 wyif, k1, sl1 wyif, purl all stitches to last 3, sl1 wyif, k1, sl1 wyif. You have to twist the 2 colors of yarn your working with every row but it creates a beautiful slim finished edge that looks like a tiny rolled I-cord and your twists to carry the other color of yarn are hidden inside. Give it a try. It was a game changer for me.

  • @sarahgordon1679

For the vent I think a double knit adhesive would look really pretty and match the vibe of the skirt.

  • @woxanna
    @woxanna 4 дня назад

Hi Nora, I think you can just keep knitting in the round and steek the slit. Add about 10-12 extra stitches (or more) in the center back then whip stitch the steek edges & use a pretty ribbon so if it flares you see the pretty ribbon show. You might want to add the 2 stitch bind-off around the edge of the slit to give it a more polished finish. Good luck.

I support your idea for a back vent, especially because you're trying to copycat your storebought skirt. I would just slip the first stitch of every row for a clean edge. I'm hesitant to say do ribbing because stripes always look slightly different on ribbing than stockinette.

Yes, I would say a vent is very necessary to be able to walk. Maybe knit the waist band and attach it, because that will also change the length of the skirt And yes, blocking after the band is attached is a good time decide if it is time to start a vent. Good luck It is looking so cute.

For sure, you look better in the chocolate brown. It's obviously your colour! However, like most of us, black is a great staple and you look good in it too. You could do the long sleeve version of the diagonal pattern in chocolate!

I think a vent with the ribbing could work well. Most vents in skirts have some overlap, which just splitting for a vent won't give you. If you cast on one part of the ribbing over some of the stitches in the skirts, that could give you the overlap you might need

I appreciate your sharing about blocking. Should have listened to you sooner. I'm now on my third attempt to knit the Pressed Flowers Cardigan. I blocked the hem only to find it grew almost 20%!!!! I've never had yarn grow so much!! If only I would have blocked my first attempt when I thought it was too small. The vent in the back is a great idea. Worried about it curling inward - maybe do about 6 stitches of 1x1 ribbing at the edges of the vent?? Love your font choice and the pattern info popping up in the bottom left corner.

I agree with you about a vent for the skirt and the placement. For finishing you could do a placket type finish. I knitted a Henley style sweater that has that button placket. You could take that idea & flip it to be the vent finish. And if you wanted the vent to be “adjustable “ you could add a button or two. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Black is an essential color for a wardrobe, however; yes it does wash out your face. Thought: wear that rich brown or other colors near your face and wear black for pants/skirts. You are awesome, thank you for being my Sunday morning stitch btch partner. I knit at the VA while I'm waiting for husband to finish appointments. It is amazing how many of the Vets will reach out with stories about a Mom or wife or sister in law that knited and how I reminded them of their (often passed) loved one. My Dad says the same thing, I bring to mind his grandmother and how she used to recruit him to help her roll yarn balls.

I love your little short stories. Some people don't like it when they attract eyes and comments when creating in the wild. Like you, I feel tickled by the inquisitive onlookers. Even though more and more people are playing with sticks and strings these days, it still amazes the general public when they see someone making. Theres no feeling like someone asking " did you make that?" If you did make it, you proudly say "yes, I did". I have even said "I didn't make it, but I could" Good times. As always your creations are beautiful and so well thought out. Im thinking small vent on either side to even out any stretching or puckering.

Hi Nora, I like the paper label in the corner to stay put, so if I miss the name I don't have to rewind 😁

I think the black is very striking on you. Brown is pretty too! But since they're different, I love both colors. - Kimberly

I think 2 slits would be cute. They wouldn't need to be that long. U could do a yfsl last st, and it would give a nice edge and u can still do ur rubbing. I dnt think u would see the slits to much either keeping the look of the skirt true.

I love the way the Clematis vest is coming along - can't wait to see the finished product! Regarding the person who couldnt believe you had made your sweater, ive always made a distinction between something that looks "homemade" versus something that is "handmade". Perhaps this person has only ever seen "homemade" things which might look a little clumsy or wonky, as opposed to your "handmade" items which are always well executed and perfectly fitted for your body and purpose. Keep up the good work!

Thank you!! Isn’t that interesting that there really is such a distinction between the two? I’m happy to be the person who shows non-knitters that they can simply make the things they would have otherwise purchased in the store! I’ll always take it as a compliment too 🥰 thank you

I was waiting for a car repair too this week and a woman asked me what I was knitting and I showed her my Gem sweater in progress. We chatted for a while. She used to crochet and apparently I inspired her to learn to knit. It’s always fun when something like that happens

In Oklahoma we say Clem-A-tis but the “A” sound is like in apple. The words on the left side of the screen were too small for me to read in that font. I think a slit in your skirt will be more comfortable. Look forward to your videos every weekend!!!

You may not need a vent because knitted fabric is stretchier than regular fabric

Oh Nora, I could feel your frustration as you told the story of trying to do a sewn bind off in the car. The minute you started telling the story, I could only imagine how many different places that yarn could catch on! I get so impatient with those bind offs - especially the long ones, but I tell you, it seems that no matter how few stitches there are, the yarn will catch or twist onto something - and yes, there always seems to be a thousand yards left over when I'm done. I guess that's better than running out. I love your story about "little Nora". Can you even imagine her, decades from now, telling someone (maybe her children), "I knit because one day I met this very sweet, beautiful lady in a coffee shop and she had my same name and she was knitting and I wanted to be just like her". 😊

I never mind taking the time to do a bind off, but I will NEVER do one outside of my couch again. 😂 omg little Nora 💛 the idea of that is just so so precious and so sweet
