For the neckline options maybe try a purled I-cord. That way you have a more similar texture to the rolled but with the extra structure an i-cord provides.

The top you’re wearing actually reminds me of the Cinna top by Ksenia Naidyon! I think it’s constructed left to right so could be a really interesting project. I know you specified that you were looking for a similar neckline and not the stripes but if you like the shape you could of course leave the stripes out 😊

I like the two row rolled hem for the big cabled sweater. I think it looks cool and will match the hems elsewhere. It also wouldn't be a huge time commitment if you did it and then had to frog it because you didn't like it.

Hi Nora. I test knit for Rebecca Clow three times. I tested the tolsta tank in the square neck. I opted for no bust shaping and it was great. Yes, and I’m placing my vote for the icord edge. Thank you for your great podcast. I’ve been here since week one! You are doing fantastic. Keep it up!

Your tanks and sweaters are beautiful. I admire your confidence in mixing patterns, just testing things and ripping it out. I am currently knitting the Twofer tank. It is v-neck on one side and square neck on the other. I’m using a bamboo yarn. I like the idea of it being reversible. It’s my first garment and it’s very convenient that the edges are “finished” as you work. I’m not super confident with picking up stitches.

I find the i-cord bind off suits the cables ..... a much cleaner look ...... put together look 😊

For the oversized cable sweater, I would do the i-cord or the fourth option that you mentioned.
I also am a huge fan of kutovakika. Currently I am working on the stripe hype sweater (colors and placement inspired by yours) and the sailor swift top (in her white and black combo).

As someone who is also currently knitting a Claire Vest, I cannot agree more on how well written the pattern is! It’s sooo intuitive and easy to follow. I’m knitting mine in hopes to wear it for my birthday in September :)

Love the icord finish
I honestly think that the proposed 3rd option will be the best. It will not add too much bulk, but will give you that more polished look and the little bit of stability/structure you're wanting. I can't wait to see this all done and how you style it!!
I really like the smaller rolled hem on the cabled sweater. I'm excited to see you finish that one! It's a very interesting knit. I'd love yo knit a cabled sweater someday but so far I've only knit cables on hats.
They’re certainly a labor of love, but I just adore a good cabled sweater!
I thought for sure I would like the i-cord edge best. BUT because of your sample sections, I think the purl stitches on the short rolled hem mimic the purl sections separating the cables in such a perfect way, and still give a nice finish and some structure.
Sometimes we just need to try it!! I feel similarly. I think I’ll have to try a few more options, but I like the idea of seeing the purls
I knit a chunky cabled cardigan and it’s finished along the next with just a pick up then bind off and I think it adds the right amount of structure without taking away from the cables. Also suuuuper interested to see how your vest turns out in that Noro yarn!

I wonder if a Chinese Waitress cast off would look nice on the neckline of your sweater. It might not be stretchy enough, though. Never seen it used to finish a neck edge and maybe there’s a reason for that…🤓
When I want mindless stockinette, I swatch random yarn from my stash. I’m a tight knitter so always go up one needle size from that recommended for the yarn. If I don’t like the fabric I do a second swatch. Just baby ones, about 6 by 4.5 inches. I tag the yarn with the needle size and gauge. That way my stash is labelled up ready for knitting. My tension has been consistent enough so far for that to remain accurate. I keep my swatches labelled too in a little folder, like a sample book. I guess my swatch folder is my sock 😂

I like your idea of picking up that v-neck edge & then binding right off. You might look at the Chinese waitress bind-off - it gives a really interesting finish that looks good from the front or the back, so it might be nice for your neck edge
You could crochet along the neckline which will make it a little bit neater. Anyway it will be nice!

I definitely like the I cord best, mainly because the stitch (V’s) match the rest of the sweater (stockinette) and blends right in. Unlike the rolled edge where you get the garter stitch and doesn’t blend in.
PS how do you get the same exact timing and posing for your pre and post blocking videos?!?😂
Tip for showing off wips or fo’s, try putting the garment on a hanger when holding them up, it’s a lot easier to show off the project :)

The project is probably called Vest Claire in the Ravelry page because the original language was Spanish and the pattern is titled in Spanish, but the title in the English translation is Claire Vest.

About the neckline, I have a tee with only a raw garter edge and because I wanted to keep it simple and flat, I just crocheted a slipstitch round on top to keep it from growing. Maybe that would work for you also...

Doing an i-cord on the Tolsta could make it fit perfect, might be worth trying before frogging! I would do a pick up rate of 3 for every 4 where you want it to be tighter :)
I am team i-cord edge on your sweater! The biggest benefit would be stability, but I also love the look of something so structured next to a texture that is very drapey. In my mind, the cables remind me of the flow of curtains, and even curtains need that sturdy hem to hang from. I fear a looser edge would eventually impact the stretch of the stitches it's next to.

I vote i-cord for the neckline. I don’t love i-cord on a lot of things but I think it goes great with this sweater texture.
I’m planning to make One Wild’s Soft Walk Tank. They always get fit just right and it looks like the perfect simple tank project. Plus there is an extra that helps with using any yarn/gauge for the pattern.
I like both the 2row rolled edge and the icord, though think I prefer the icord because it is stockinette, while the rolled hem shows the purl side.
Hey Nora! I totally understand how you feel about the cable sweater. I've had the same experience, where I loved the stock photo of a sweater and then realized the edges were unfinished and was like, "Uh, no. We're gonna finish these." I'm still not sure why I'm cool with it on model, but not on mine. :) With your decision for the neckline finishing, I'm wondering which finish would be most useful for how you want to wear it. If you are wanting it to be stretchy, but more structured so it won't be stretching out, I would suggest the little rolled hem. I think if you do your fav stretchy bind off, you would get more bounce back than with the icord bindoff. However, if you're wanting it to be able to rely on the structure more, I would choose the icord bindoff.
Hey, just ran over here from knit sip something (edit, Happy. Found it lol). I don't usually watch it but anyway, her what she's wearing section... She does an edging that you need girl! I think she said it's a purl, knit, knit. It has a bump, then a tiny curl back. Amazing.
Having just knit the pattern (feelgoodcablesweater)….i did it all to pattern….,I think you need a small simple edge…I’d go with just picking up stitches & then bind off. The cables are so strong I don’t think you want anything too overpowering at the neckline.Looking great tho…❤
Highly recommend the tonight top by lily kate makes. I’ve made 2 now for my daughter who is 27. It has a turtle neck but I made a folded rib neck. The finishing is so great.

For your cabled sweater I would go for the finish where you just pick up and then bind off. I recently did this for a vest I was knitting and was really surprised with how well it turned out. Also i would worry that an i-cord would pull the neckline to much :D
That low v-neck looks stunning on you!! And actually, the whole garment looks great (tho I too would finish the edges). I’d keep it and make another one rather than frogging. Also, cotton can always be shrunk a little bit by careful drying, so stretching doesn’t mean a lot.
Thank you!! I think it actually looks way better in the video than it does in real life. The edges just don’t sit quite right and I think a few less stitches would be better. My dryer is so aggressive I am terrified to throw any hand knit objects in there 😬
@@akaNoraKnits lol I stand there with my hand on the door, so I don’t forget, and often just a few minutes will bring cotton back into shape-and then of course with wear it stretches again. Think of how your jeans behave. I wouldn’t dry any wools.

What has kept me from the tolsta (both tank and tee) is the excess amount of fabric that seems to go from the shoulder edge to underarm. Maybe thats just the fit rebecca prefers but like you were showing with the bust shaping, there us just too much fabric going on there? Even in the pattern photos (i dont think her green one is modeled with the bust darts but i could be wrong?) there is just so much underarm bunching happening?!
I guess I hadn’t noticed in the pattern photos that the triangles do appear to be like folded in on the sides? So there is excess fabric that’s just kind of tucked in? It’s certainly a strange option if that’s the case in the final object. I’m curious to see how mine will fit differently after I fix it

First of all, sorry for the suggestion on the Tolsta that didn’t work.
Second, the designer did the cami in black and did a white crochet edging along the top. I don’t know how that would look with the pretty plum you have, but if you wanted something that pops?

For your sweater neck edge, how many i-cord stitches did you do? I would do just 2. I also saw below someone recommending a purled i-cord. I have to youtube that right now!
Now to the Tolsta. I agree with you so much. I was eagerly awaiting this pattern. I was going to do what your plan was/is - cami front, vest back. I have done a few v-neck tanks and the arm hole shaping/decrease rate has been very similar between the different patterns and designers. The Tolsta is very different and made no sense to me. On a closer look I saw that there is all this fabric in the armpit in Rebecca's pictures. Really don't want that! And then I realized that I actually don't like how wide the v-neck is. So I completely made up all the shaping. Luckily it turned out really well. I also found a bunch of mistakes in the pattern that shouldn't be there. A bit disappointing.
Once I finish one of my summer wips I'll cast on the vest claire and I am really excited about that one!
If you love the pattern style (I do too) I can highly recommend patterns by Susanne Mueller/Paula Strickt. She is not fully size inclusive but her patterns are really good. I just purchased her newest Tropez sweater which is actually crochet!! Wish me luck with that 😁 (I don't crochet - yet)

For the edge of the cable sweater: I used to pick up and bind off in those situations, but now I single crochet around the edge, and it gives a similar look but so much faster!

Love your podcast, Nora. I would recommend the Sabai top by Susanne Muller (PaulaStrickt) for your new yarn. I've just knitted it and it's lovely. Also, for the neckline of your cable sweater, I would pick up and then work a round of purl stitches, then bind off. I think the purl bumps would make the edge look neat.

As much as i dont like mixing knit and crochet, i would be interested to see how a row of sc would look around the neck line. It would hide the raw edge without distraction from the cables maybe xx

or a slip stitch crochet edge seems easier than picking up stitches just to bind off right away 😂 might just be because I personally hate picking up stitches

For the cabled sweater, I like the i-cord idea; but maybe at a smaller gauge to keep it from being too bulky? Also, perhaps a simple crochet slip stitch border would tidy up the edge without adding bulk. Luv seeing all the progress on it! Keep on truckin'!
I think you’re so right about something less bulky! I hadn’t thought to try a crochet slip stitch, but that could be exactly what it needs! Sounds like I have more sampling to do 😅

Hi Nora! I also knit the Tolsta tank with a vest back and cami front. I raised the front vee about an inch. Mine should be finished by now, but my applied i-cord around the neck pulled in the bottom of the vee a lot, so I need to re-do that, as well as knit the i-cord finishing around the armholes. But, otherwise I love the pattern (already have another vest version).
Re: a tank pattern you might like, I’d suggest the Mixed-Rib Cami by Florence Miller, the Seagrass Tank by Samantha Guerin, or the Leela Top by Caidree
I love the fact that the pattern allows for so much creativity! I adore the look of that Mixed-Rib Cami! I need to find the patience to do that much ribbing across a garment. I’ll have to check out the others! Thank you!!

I recently finished my Tolsta tank Cami version with Coboo. I love the idea of flipping it and wearing the back on the front. Do you think making a tank with two backs woodwork for a higher neckline?
So fun!! I totally do! I think the back has a really pretty boat neck and as long as you add a finish to the edge, it looks just right!

Well you sealed the deal I must get the tolsta tank pattern. I have watched Rebecca's videos and all these great knitters sharing their projects and now I can't stand it. I have projects with deadlines . I have wips, I have hibernating projects that I really really mean to get back to. I have stuff that needs to be frogged. But I also have purple cotton linen blend yarn and extra needles and as soon as your video is over I will have the pattern too
😂😂😂 sometimes, it’s just nice to have an easy go-to pattern that has allllll the options to suit your mood!
@akaNoraKnits it also helps pacify the husband when he scans thru the credit card charges and says with bugging eyes, another pattern?????!!!!! How many is that this month????? You can't even knit that many things in a month!! But honey it's a really good value like 12 patterns in one!
Hi Nora, im knitting the tolsta tank and have ripped back my first try as i dodnt like the fit. On my second go now and im omitting the slip stiches and plan to add an i cord, the fabric curled a lot with the slip stitch and was not good. I'm hoping this second go will be just right 😃
How interesting! I feel the same-to be fair, I also felt that way looking at the designer’s photos, so I always figured I’d add an edge to it. I think that’s the nice thing about the tolsta, that you can use it as a base for more creativity

I liked the look of the shorter rolled neck but I also don’t think I would necessarily want a rolled neck on a sweater either lol I think I’d choose the icord, I don’t think it takes away from the cables.

For the Tolsta Maybe you could just rip out the top front and do decreases exactly where you pinched it?
I was wondering the same thing, but I think that would definitely take away the ability to wear it backwards…definitely something to consider though!!
I think the 2 row rolled hem kind of keeps the vibe of the sweater while giving it a bit more structure. It is gorgeous!

hi it may be too late but couldn't you just undo the fronts and decrease out the extra dart stitches above the bust, as if you were sewing in the dart? btw I haven't watched the whole episode.

How many stitch i-cord did you use? If you think it is too bulky- could you use a fewer stitch i cord?
I think I should try a smaller i cord! I’m pretty sure I had done 5 stitches to match the back of the neck
