Retroarch has its place, but I don't think its place is the mainline PC emulation scene. It is much easier, quicker and more reliable(The Dolphin core is basically a meme compared to mainline standalone Dolphin) to just handle diffrent systems and configurations for those systems individually. Sadly, it seems like some emus like the current best standalone DS emulator do not care about implementing some of Retroarch's features, like Retroachivement support, so it will keep some kind of relevance for the foreseeable future.

i think it's cool how far this product has come. ill never get one as i far too married to emulation after selling all my consoles like 10 years ago. i play on a 99' dell vga crt and wouldn't have it any other way. i thought at first i would want scanlines. but it turns upscaling 3d consoles and the magical glow and ultra low response times on a vga looks incredible.. almost surreal when i first got it. best $50 i've spent in a long time. maybe ever considering the amount of time i've spent on it since picking it up

Something that bugs me about Nintendo's handling of legacy content on the Switch is the complete dropping of the virtual console. It was far from perfect, but I don't see why it couldn't exist in tandem with Switch Online. Rope people in with the service and give the option to buy the games you want to keep permanently (until the inevitable store closure). Most people won't have the money to buy the entire shop library, and I'm sure Nintendo would still charge for online play because that's just the unfortunate industry standard. So either way they'd get people's money.

Can you play this game on PC?

I would probably never buy a retrotink 4k, even if I could easily afford one, but it's been clear to me from the beginning that this is a very good product. It is a big improvement over the Retrotink 5x Pro, and that's REALLY saying something. Its ability to simulate CRT phosphers, and its wide range of very useful settings and functions make it a great alternative to using an actual CRT. Yes, it's expensive, but all of the space savings and power savings of not having to use a CRT, and being able to have a CRT like experience with a large modern flat panel, make it a great product. The cost isn't really that high for people who really care about it, and it will be great for retro gaming cafes.

I gave up with retroarch when I couldnt save my settings. I had all overide options ON for saving after I quit. Nothing saved. Tried to manually save my setting on the menu "Not Saving. Override Active." OKAY. Turned those off and then tried again. Same error. Reset config, reinstalled. Tried it all. I dont want to have to fucking remap and turn on retroachiements on everytime I play Ape Escape so i gave up. All done

I havent finished the video yet but i will say this. The d-pad wasnt that awful. It was the buttons. That ruined it. Y was run and A was jump? why wasnt it B for jump? no thanks!

Are there any mods or hacks that can fix the CEMU version? Conversely, are there any must have mods for the Dolphin GC version? I want to play this again soon. I agree with every minor nitpick in this video.

Honestly, having a specific short theme telling the player to rush the boss down is the coolest part of TP and SS.

I didn't like RetroArch at 1st cos the UI seems so confusing but once you wrap your head around it it's really simple and convenient. My biggest complaint with it apart from the UI is that some of the cores are so outdated that your better off just using the standalone emulator.

I like retroarch because it applies CRT shader of my choice to many consoles automatically.

They really messed up the Epona controls on the HD version.

I know this release was seen as a disappointment, but I’m glad I got to play all these games again. I finally got to 100% Mario 64 which I had never done before!

About a year back I got obsessed by silent hill 1, I looked into emulating the game since 200$ plus whatever a ps1 costs was obismal. Soon after I finished the game ( fucking amazing game BTW) I then was told by some guy at a gamestop that I should play the best game ever to exist, donkey kong country 2, at first I had a hard time with the look ( half life 1 gave me a headache so this was no different) but then soon after I ran into the minecart level and this game showed the atmosphere and soundtrack full and showing like your grandpa at a lockeroom in a gym. Ever since I've taken a new perspective on games, before this I believed that new games were the best. Now I belive the best games have a following well after it's prime.

standalone emulators all the way...retroarch is shit, lb is better, at least in looks :) i made all my games to launch from just double click on their own exe file, and all shortcuts are in their console folder inside Games folder on desktop :)

I'm surprised you didn't put a tack into the argument a lot of people have against the "midnas desperate hour" section where her music will be interrupted by bokoblins fight music if you get too close. To me you spend about 1 to 2 minutes to get to castle town and it doesnt interrupt from then on. Thats hardly any time to care that much.

When you were describing the unique spring resistance, the word texture came to mind. Those old sticks have texture to their movement, and they get tighter as you move away from center.

In The all-stars version if you finish the game you start back in world 1 but you do not have infinite P-wing, the full of p_wing is exclusive to the NES version American version and pal version. Family computer version does not have it since during the credit pressing start does nothing at all.

You did not clear it 100% because you miss the nipper plant in world 7, that is why you can redo toad house and hammer bros, and castle and spade game, the hammer bros. on the map are not required for 100% but while you are playing through if they are 3 left over in the map and you skip all 3 you risk getting soft lock in this version the exception to this if you finish 100% and for some reason the nipper plant are require for 100% but not the hammer bros. Hand trap in world 8 are also required for 100%.

Their is a tanoki suit in mini-castle 1 in world 7, this is just in case you don't have anything in reserve that help. after entering the door that the p-swtich made appear, you just don't go pass the pipe vertical pipe like an idot, you go in. The Mod call the randomizer makes sure it does not randomize does so it is possible to leave and not break the puzzle. Also if you took a good look the background kind of look similar to the backroom more of the dry part of the pool room. Also the Backroom the pool room no enemies it is all empty

The reason why they hate the mario voice was because of Super mario advance because it does not stop talking since it talk everytime you take a vegtable out, and it gets really annyoing. And since it is really common so it is like spam talk. The other Super Mario Advance that is not the 1st one the speek is mush more control and less spam like so I prefer that way

how to make the coins airship spond. it as to be in world 1, 3, 5, 6 and their must be a hammer bros. left over on the map screen, coins as to be multiple of 11, and the 10 digit of your score as to match it after the timer gives score, so in normal level if you have a match you have to finish the level on even number, but if you are 5 away from matching end on a odd number so it change to match, It appear after you clear out a N-spade that was because it does not put your remaining time for score when N-spade is done because you got 30 coins makeing at 66 and your 10 score digit was already at 6.

Why are you skiping fun bonus room, in 5-2 if you take the path up the pipe before the moutain gets you to a giant block with 3 1-up mushroom, you need to be super mario to access it but their is a mushroom in their so you can access the Giant block.

Retroarch interface is awful

I do both. Im still married to original hardware, because I like the feel or original hardware, and the ritual of taking the game off the shelf, popping it in, and running it on the console. But as you said, hardware is starting to fail, its starting to become rare, and its starting to become expensive. I'm about to send my Xbox in to get serviced because of failing capacitors, broken disc drive, and to prevent HDD failure, and it's looking to be around $200 for all that. And that's just one console. Not to mention the dozens of NES/SNES/GB/GBA/N64 games I have that need batteries replaced, and I just haven't because I don't know how to solder, and don't want to spend the money sending like 20 expensive games in the mail to get new batteries. Gone are the days you could get a good, working CRT for free. I bought mine for about $60 (27" Panasonic Tau), but a good Trinitron or PVM will run you upwards of $100 easily. And you have to make sure it has the right inputs for your consoles, and even then will eventually fail. There arent any CRT repair people in my area. Hell, calibrating it is a pain in the ass, and mine certainly doesn't have perfect picture. I have some edge wobble, and I find the reds to be too strong. But I'm not talented enough to calibrate my TV perfectly, so I live with the defects. For that reason, the Retrotink 4k looks better and better. And once my CRT inevitably dies on me in a few years, if I can't quickly and cheaply find a replacement, I'm 100% just going to go the Retrotink route. Of course emulation is getting better too. Duckstation, ppsspp, bsnes, and mgba are fantastic. PCSX2 can be a bit of a pain in the ass, but once you get the settings right on that, it looks really good too. And Reshade Filters emulate the CRT look excellently on modern displays. Playing Final Fantasy VIII upscaled to 4k on Duckstation with a CRT filter on looks A LOT better than even the official FFVIII remaster. My absolute favorite part of emulation though is romhacks and fan patches that remove censorship, retranslate foreign games, or provide fan translations for games never brought to the U.S. You could throw these roms on Everdrives to play on original hardware, but it's just an extra annoying step. When it comes to playing uncensored, imported, or expensive games I've been priced out on, I definitely just go the emulation route. I'm also a fan of some of the "in-between" options. I love the NES and SNES Classic consoles, they're really easy to mod to add more games, and I personally think the included CRT filters on those look really good, the SNES one especially is convincing. And clone consoles like the Retron 5 provide a convenient way to play old games on your TV. It's technically emulation, but gives you the feel of playing your physical collection. And I think the raw pixels output on that looks decent (though the CRT filters could be better on that). You can even run games off a SD card on the Retron 5 by tricking it into thinking you're running a patch.

I did try the Japanese NES version of Super mario bros. 3 and it does not make it harder the extra damage and they also made Wendy koopa the one from world 3 less aggressive because of one hit your small mario no matter what power-up

I sold my original Switch during the shortage in 2020 and by pure chance this was the one game I held onto. Now that I picked up an OLED I’m enjoying playing it and the rarity of it really surprised me.

you know the horror game the backroom maybe mario game have a connection to the backroom or the mario universe is also part of the backroom, the creator of Mario game did say that it is just a theatre play, Super mario bros.3 in the backroom they are some section that look like a theatre play but it is the real environment and not an actuall theatre play. So what if Super mario bros.3 just look like a theatre play but it is not, that would indicate Super mario is always in the backroom but the children friendly version of it.

With the Spade game. On The GBA version I did some testing and something spaming work on getting a full picture, something spaming gets you a full mushroom, and something a full fire flower, and something a full star, and something a different type of missing. It all depend on the frame you enter the spade, and then the frame you press to stop the picture. It give the illusion of random with that since your playing on the Game cube Game boy player.

After defeating the mid-castle as long the lock was not a mandatory lock to progress, but in the all-stars version after the mid-castle that does not have a mandatory lock, you still have to manually save so the lock-path remain open.

Agreed 👍 its so headache inducing, the only good thing that I got out of retroarch was it's sega saturn Corey (almost all standard emulators had some kind of problem or not even workings with me) but with the beetle Core and kronos? It did helped but otherwise? I won't bother with it at all . Using Launchbox was fun especially trying to add the stuff that you want to users forever, just finished using Mesan and I'll be adding it soon to my Launchbox......but about Ares Emulator, how is it with Arcade games ? I would like to change Mame if Ares is better 😅
