How Releasing Games Kills Piracy
The main key reason people pirate games is usually only because a game is either unavailable, or too expensive. In this video I wanted to illustrate how simply keeping games available, no matter the format, will help prevent piracy by offering that convenience for new consumers, as well as keeping prior releases on the cheap side for those with ulterior tastes.

How Faithful Can a Remake Be?
Просмотров 5 тыс.21 день назад
Told ya it'd take me 2 months :p No sponsor segments this time. There's been a lot of discussion regarding video game remakes as of late so I figure I'd throw my two cents in. I'm probably a minority but I'm usually more accepting of remakes compared to others because as games then I feel many titles can indeed be improved. And while changes of any kind may be divisive........if it does result ...
How to Deal with Mr. X
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.2 месяца назад
As much as I'd love to do a dedicated review of Resident Evil 2, there's a bunch of those already so i'll probably wait. Till then I'd like to deep dive into Mr. X as he's such an infamous part of the Resident Evil 2 experience. I've been on both sides of the spectrum between those who love his constant harassments, and those who want nothing to do with him when he's around. As someone who gene...
Emulators Vs. Retroarch
Просмотров 100 тыс.4 месяца назад
I try to go over the general experience of using unofficial emulators and their standalone software, compared to using Retroarch. Playing on unofficial emulators can be a daunting task for those who've never pursued it. Solutions for that demographic do exist such as Retroarch. Unfortunately while Retroarch is the most popular and known emulator hub, it's still not without issues that can make ...
Why I Bought the RetroTink4K
Просмотров 25 тыс.5 месяцев назад
You may have heard of the RetroTink4K. Specifically regarding the outrageous price. For most, such a high entree fee would most certainly not be worth it. However I found extremely beneficial use with the Tink4K that makes it worth every penny. The CRT filters. With old CRT displays getting more challenging to find, and modern retro releases not including good CRT filters in most cases, the Tin...
Ode to the Octagonal Gate
Просмотров 11 тыс.7 месяцев назад
I've been thinking about a small little aspect in gaming and that's the use of an octagonal gate on Nintendo's first few 3D consoles. It wasn't until the Wii U when they ditched the Octagonal Gate. Because of this the libraries for N64, GameCube, and Wii have frequently been challenging to enjoy with modern controllers simply because the octagonal gate is missing. May seem like a pointless issu...

A Totally Calm and Collected REACTION of the (6/18/2024) NINTENDO DIRECT

So I managed to catch that new Nintendo Direct that aired earlier this morning. Always a good time to watch stuff live. Prepare to witness one of the very few times I legit lose my composure to an announcement. Usually I'm quite composed and stoic over hype related stuff. Anyhoos, just a fun lil reaction. Should hopefully have the next vid finished real soon.
Why I Don't Like *Most* HD Texture Packs
Просмотров 52 тыс.8 месяцев назад
I have been told many a times to simply just get a texture pack if I feel retro games at higher res provide less than desirable visuals. Unfortunately I find most texture packs from fans and devs, aren't quite the fix most would insist they are. I feel more comfortable playing retro games with their original visuals, displayed in an original format at lower resolutions. I understand this is a b...
Elden Ring: My First Impressions
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.9 месяцев назад
Only a never ending game like Elden Ring could ever call for first impressions only after beating the game. This gargantuan game was a predominant reason why uploads have slowed down a bit. It's not an exaggeration with just how huge and long this game is and even after finishing it there's still got to be 10s of 100s of hours of content for me to try. Either way, the game is done, and it is on...

Learning to LOVE The Legend of Zelda (NES)

The Legend of Zelda is a game that I never had much interest in playing growing up, simply from the dated nature of it nowadays. However recently there's been a rekindled interest in really giving this game a chance, and the results were certainly interesting. Despite how aged this game may seem nowadays, I am now of the belief that this game is still just as playable as it was then and can be ...

Punch Out!!: The PERFECT Remaster/Remake/Reboot!!
personally i feel the line "piracy is a service problem" almost daily whenever i notice some game looking interesting i read "This item is currently unavailable in your region" or get directed towards the google homepage because for some reason most game distribution services dealing with fanservice heavy anime styled games usually tend to explicitly geoblock germany from even just knowing that something exists most noteworthy ones coming to mind are steam and dlsite lately (dlsite also expanded the geoblock to the purchased goods download area so I CANT EVEN PLAY MY GAMES WHICH I LEGALLY BOUGHT WITHOUT A VPN SUBSCRIPTION) hence why i have to resort to piracy to just be able to play a lot of games, but the increasing issues with payment processing dont really make things easier on everyone, so even a VPN powered spending spree aint an option if you cannot even pay for most games anymore i mean i know several games specifically which i like and if ever given the option WILL drop my money on just to vote with my wallet and say "i like that, i pay for that" i mean I JUST WANT TO BUY A FLIPPIN 2 BUCKS GAME BECAUSE I LIKE IT A LOT, JUST LET ME PAY FOR PLAYING MIRROR FOR EFFS SAKE Q_Q thanks for reading me vent over some cheap hentai game i like a lot and wanna pay for ._.
For me personally, I only pirate video games that are 100% being Not sold anymore While I do also own the original copies as well with the consoles they are on. The problem though is the Toxic PC Pirates that are making the situation worse, Those types of people never tend to keep their mouth shut and they are the reasoning why companies have trust issues with their fan base, It could unfortunately be our faults. I am honestly really happy people like you are starting to realize that sometimes piracy isn't good and more people need to realize that.
As I always say: Piracy (Of older games) is a necessary evil.
PCSX2 is still king, don't @ me]
this game was the first time I played Mario 64, I loved it when I was somewhat little and I still like it then, it’s very convenient too
Nintendo can cry about piracy all they want. If they didn't constantly take down fan games at a rate that makes me believe they are jealous that a small group of super nerds can make better games then them I might be singing a different tune but as things are now, I will pirate with pride. Maybe don't spit in the face of your most passionate and dedicated fans. Wild concept, I know.
And if you don't give us the games that are actually good then we Boycott and use our Money on other thing's and rub it in the Corpo's faces to show them you don't control us.
Pirating games is as easy if not easier than using steam ?
No you can share backups for free the problem is free means free no optional patreon or Kofi I disagree with how strict it is but you can share roms legally.
If you take people's hard earned money after unreleasing a game then theft is not piracy. Stop trying to stick up from the corporate goombas who could care less about consumption
It's not scalping to sell a used game that is not for sale anymore from the retailer.
Every game by definition a remake those are film terms to remaster a game would mean to at most modify the original code. The closest thing to a remaster is the superstar saga but even then they didn't up rez textures for everything they changed some textures whole sale and galaxy was coded differently.
Used games aren't expensive because "gamers" price the games it's because out of production games for out of production consoles are finite treating them as anything other than collectors items is silly.
"But that only works when it's affordable, which is where gamers f*** it up" *picture of thousand year door going for $85* that's a steal yo
You’d think Metroid Prime 2 would go _up_ after Prime Remastered released because now more people want to play it and it’s still just as unavailable. I would say that people who resell old games are scalpers by definition. But I think it’s harsh to say. When I think of a scalper, I think of someone who buys up large quantities of a product to create scarcity so they can turn a short term profit. They are real PoS. But I consider resellers who buy something and hold onto it for a long time to be investors. Yeah, you’re taking advantage of people who missed their chance to buy something but it’s an even playing field. There’s no FOMO or urgency. It’s just you selling something you own at its perceived value whether you kept it sealed or played it for 100 hours and it’s time to sell it. That’s a major draw for owning physical media. I just want to create this disparity so when it comes time for me to sell some of my games, collectibles, or LEGO sets, I’m not seen as a dirty scalper.
Yo! Twilight Princess is your favorite video game of all time too?! Based!
I’d like to proudly boast that the only level of “piracy” I’ve committed was dumping all of my Wii and Wii U games _that I own_ so I could play them at a better quality the way I want to. Well, there was that one time… when- it’s just- never mind. It’s nothing. Don’t worry about it! OKAY, FINE! I installed the Delta Emulator on my phone and my coworker showed me how to download a GBA ROM of Mario Kart. It was just ONE TIME! I barely played it! How else am I supposed to play it? I don’t have a GBA. SUE ME! …no, nonono, wait wait wait!
Piracy is not theft. Not even the US government argues that. Online piracy is a copyright infringement issue
"You don't own your digital games." - Ubisoft. 🦜🏴☠ ⛵ I'm going sailing. 2:28 What a bad example, most of those SEGA games are abandoned and can't be played on anything else but Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and emulators.
8:40 i understand this point, i really do, but sometimes, games are held back by their hardware, and i found that out when playing ps2 and 3 games on emulator, cranking up that resolution scaling and being able to see all the detail that the Yakuza devs put into the environment, detail that was effectively lost in a game running at like 288p interlaced
Piracy is Copyright Infrigement not stealing.
Piracy isn't theft. But property is. Pirates get copy of pirated game. But owning copy of game whether pirated or not is still owning property. Therefore all pirates are now under arrest
We need to stop acting like digital "purchases" are a good alternative to the physical thing.
My big reason why I don’t do piracy or do piracy websites for games or anything else, it’s because that I don’t feel like I want to risk giving my phone or laptop or computer a virus just play a 20-year-old game, or anything else for that matter
I do buy original physical retro games because I'm already a collector and got into it before prices got ridiculous. But the prices have become outrageous and is sucking the joy out of the hobby. I do understand why new people interested in older games choose to download/pirate old retro games. And it shouldn't be anything illegal about it. Even if a remake or remaster exists. Because it is not the original version of the game, no longer being for sale. If people want an original PS2 title. And said original PS2 title is out of print. And isn't available in a physical store, or storefront like GOG where you could hypothetically buy a legal ISO and burn it to a disc or download it to your computer to emulate etc. It should be considered abandonware if a company does not make it available for sale in one form or another, and is not supported for a period of let's say 15 years. Pirating/downloading the ready and available remake/remaster is not unfair to still be considered illegal though. Until that system is also unavailable and no longer for sale, and 15 years have passed since it was last supported. I rarely pirate anything these days because most modern games aren't even worth pirating. And the modern games that interest me (which are mostly indie and AA) are worth paying for. Also as you say piracy is mostly a hassle. And is only a problem or threat to anything when the intended legal way is more of a hassle and generally very anti customer. Like AAA games. I WANTED to buy the upcomming Civ 7. I was generally interested. Maybe not on day one because I find the price a little bit steep. But later on at least. But when I saw that the game forces Denuvo down my throat. And the pirate version will probably perform and run better because of it. I will wait an see if they crack Denuvo and I will pirate it instead, unless they acturally remove denuvo by then. The only games and reason I pirate anything these days are when games come with shit bloatware like Denuvo and other excessive DRM. And require additional launchers like Uplay and/or constant online connectivity for singleplayer games. I Bought Ghost of Tsushima for full price on PC because of no Denuvo, no mandatory PS account etc. Make it simple and accessible like Sony did with that game and piracy is nothing these companies need to worry about.
Bro piracy is not theft. You don't have to say you believe this to cover your ass.
Forcing an online connection and signing in though their own network account pushes users to piracy. Purchased a single player story game and can't play it because their servers are down. Hello piracy.
Also Fun Fact -Madden 09 on Xbox is close to 100 dollars. Your out your mind if imma shell out 100 for a game that in the 5 dollars bin for the last 10 years. I would advise everybody to get your own dumping tools and ripping tools to backup and preserve game files.
malding because poor
There is a army of games that I wish I could buy on Steam or GoG, but guess what? it's not available...
As far as it goes, scalpers and “some” game stores (classic game stores) can pound sand if they think imma pay XYZ for some “rare” game when all these systems are degrading and wearing out. I’m gonna continually find what I wanna play on the high seas. I even buy them China knock offs off amazon to back up on my PC. I have a deep backlog that if gaming were to end I’m golden also with mods like for example World At War Remastered project , Vice City Restoration Project and NFL Blitz 20-24 roster update to Blitz 2000 I’m good for a while.
Piracy to me is super convenient and easy since I have really fast internet and my country has no restrictions on downloading stuff. Also no chance in hell i'm going to rely on old junk hardware over the braindead easy to use PCSX2, DuckStation and Dolphin emulators. Piracy is definitely not "tedious" as you've said.
1:41 i liked those segments in your retroarch video
They also treat renting and buying used copies very similar to piracy. Just goes to show you where their priorities are...
dont forget PC games, many rely on old servers to verify your copy to play. Like Games for Windows live. I've bought plenty of physical copies of old games for PC only to install them and then have an activation screen come up that is literally impossible to pass since it relies on dead services, or the key has already been claimed by someone else. So I need to get a cracked version from the web. Sometimes, those cracked versions dont even exist. Half life 2, I bought every version released, and every single one requires a steam account to play, even though all the files are installed, just needing decryption. I don't want to put my retro PCs on the internet, vunerable to viruses (simply connecting them to a router can get malware). regardless, steam doesnt even support old operating systems anymore. Its such a headache
Small correction, piracy is not theft, its copyright infringement, like if i made a perfect copy of the monalisa, i wouldn't steal it, it's still in a Museum, I just have a copy of the picture, you would only steal a game if you stole the pcs of the game devs and have the source code.
retroarch does have alot of settings and can ve a mess to learn for the first time, but i absolutely adore it. once everything is set up you have the most well built shader system available for any emulator and nearly every system that can be emulated accessible and managable through the same ui! plus with it being so easy to port to other platforms i can set up a cloud storage solution to automatically synchronise my save files between my pc, laptop, steam deck and emulation handheld automatically! i get why people are averse to it, but i think its worth the effort to learn
Your pronunciation of compilation gives me life.
I had Zelda TP on the Wii and while it was my favorite Zelda game, it wasn't my favorite game. I never really liked the inconsistent and fiddly waggle controls. After I discovered that TP was on the GameCube, I fell in love with it all over again. Zelda TP on the GameCube is my favorite game.
Copying is not theft, if I have it yours you have it too. One for me and one for you, that's what copies can do.
Piracy isn't theft it's copy right infringement. Copying things isn't theft because nothing is lost. That's like saying opening up a book then writing down the words on every page at Barnes and noble is theft. It isn't but it's weird to do. But yes I agree. I don't pirate games I could easily buy and I definitely don't pirate indie games. If I pirate it's because it's too hard to access the original game in a convenient method that isn't riddled with issues.
Is Minecraft story mode being archived piracy?
Is a Nintendo game being archived piracy?
No? Archiving games is not piracy.
I always appreciate the crisp footage you use for 5th and 6th gen 3D games. Looks really good.
Piracy = theft >I go and pirate a game 60 million times >Company losses 3.6 billion dollars >Company goes bankrupt Yeah I'm pretty sure that's how it works
Yeah, if you, YES YOU, specifically you, STEAL a game, you pirating THIEF! Then, the poor, innocent billion dollar company will go BANKRUPT, and Mario will be dragged out back Old Yeller style.
The good old 4chan meme. Make company bankrupt, then "return" the pirated games to get refund money and purchase the company before it has time to recover from the temporary financial loss.
Yeah this is a pretty good example of why the whole "One pirated copy = one loss sale" Is not necessarily always true.
Makes sense that since at the time this game released we had other things that had frenetic, non-stop action with virtually very little downtime, this game's deliberate slowness earnt it criticisms from people that wanted it to do something it didn't want to be. With the myriad of other games that have no downtime, I would not even mind an entire game like Twilight Princess' prologue with nothing but atmosphere, nice vibes and a charming cast that you get to live with for a bit.
“If buying isn’t owning than piracy isn’t stealing”. I’ve been hearing this quote after steam put something saying your buying a license which I feel mixed about that. I would love to buy games if it comes available. And as for retro games I know many stores that I go and visits to get old and used games and even work at a retro game store too.
19:55 That's most people in the RUclips comments apparently though
piracy may be illegal, but it is not theft. even Nintendo got that one right.
16:25 I'd love to hear an explanation. Not that I can agree or disagree because I've never used one. It just seems like an odd hot take
Ergonomically it's awkward to hold in my hands. Makes it hard to have access to all the buttons. The shoulder buttons in particular aren't satisfying to press from how small they are, especially compared to the N64s Z button. Finally the analog stick isn't completely like a real GameCube stick. Feels good, but not quite like GCN or even Wii nunchuck stick. It also has some deadzone but that could just be from how old is. Frankly I'd recommend a third party alternative as they are improved in ways. I don't think the Hori would satisfy N64 controller purists. Definetly wouldn't be worth $100 unless you're a hard core collector.
@Mr.Welbig Interesting, would you say the original controller is better?
@ If the stick is in great shape, and you like that design, then oh yea.
Deleting pixels from your digital store so people give their money to someone else. Keep it up!
