Fantastic Plastic 1/35 Resin Hawk Fighter (by Trevor)
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Yes. And yes. In this video, I build, modify and light up the resin model of the Hawk Fighter. The iconic and remarkably unique Warhawk starfighter was featured in season two of the television series "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century". It was piloted by a colorful character named Hawk, whose descendants were an avian species from Easter Island on Earth.

The Marauder from the 1979 television series "Buck Rogers" is an iconic starship. Good afternoon. I've been trying to adapt you refit start up sketch and I'm getting an odd result. (Using 5 pins/LEDs) The LEDs for pins 1-5 turn on at power up. Then LEDs 1-4 turn off in the sequence they should turn on. LED five just stays on. The only changes I've made to sketch is pin # and counter # to march the # of LEDs.

    I just finished 3-D printing a buck Rogers Thunderfighter starfighter… fairly large scale probably about twice the size of that… I’d like to suggest a couple of tools that might make your life a little easier… now I have a Dremel which is great but for working with plastics it’s too high speed and it just melts everything… what I ended up getting is a nail drill…. Neil salons use them to grind down fingernails and polish… Mine has an adjustable knob that allows me to find tune the speed of the tool from 1000 RPM all the way up to 45,000 RPM in 1000 increments. It’s battery powered rechargeable via USB and has a variety of tips that come with it from sanding to drilling to polishing and is ideal for fine work like modelling. It would’ve made fairly short work of drilling out the canopy glass and the other tool I have acquired recently for my modelmaking is a Sanding tool that is about half the size of a cordless Dremel that has an interchangeable sanding pad that has several different shapes from triangle square oval and comes with a variety of grits of sandpaper with adhesive backs and its fantastic for fine detail work. The Square pad is approximately 1 cm x 1 cm, I don’t know if the tool has a specific name but they are available on Temu AliExpress and other Chinese websites… I hope this helps

    • @OstrichLongneck
      @OstrichLongneck 4 месяца назад

      Those tools do sound awesome. I have a similar drill that's powered by a couple of AA batteries, but it's a low-torque little gadget that barely manages with regular model styrene. Maybe it's time for an upgrade. The sanding gadget sounds very nice, too. I'll definitely look into it, as I have a lot of resin cast models waiting in the stash. I still need to get around to building something, though. I've been a bit lazy for the last few months! Good luck with the Thunderfighter! It sounds like an exciting build, for sure!

    • @OstrichLongneck
      @OstrichLongneck 9 месяцев назад

      Hi, welcome to the Arduino 😃 Did you check all of your connections? A common mistake is to use a split-rail breadboard, where the positive and negative rails are not continuous but spilt in half, so the power doesn't run through to the LED's. If you hold the board up to the light,. you can usually see if the positive and negative rows are continuous or broken into two. if they are broken, you would need to connect the two halves with small jumper wires. I hope this helps.

    Hey Trevor, I build the nacelle fader setup exactly as you showed it and uploaded the sketch to the arduino. But as soon as I connect the 12v power supply both strips light up and flicker slightly. I wonder what I was doing wrong. I tried another arduino, I rebuild the thing from scratch, I checked the values of the resistors - nothing is out of the ordinary. Do you have any ideas as to what the problem could be? Maybe my IRF540N broke? Can those be defective? I used them in various prototyping setups by now, maybe I accidentally damaged them?

    • @OstrichLongneck
      @OstrichLongneck 7 месяцев назад

    If you use a razor saw to cut the canopy off the sprue it will not cause stress on the part.

      You are so correct! A razor saw would have been ideal for the job. I wish I had thought of using one. I think I'll be using them exclusively with clear parts from now on😁. Thanks for the great tip!

      @@OstrichLongneck One question? what speific paint brand should i get for my TU-160n model?

    • @OstrichLongneck
      @OstrichLongneck Год назад

      @@timham450 I used Mr Hobby lacquers. They have a whole bunch of whites and off-whites to create a bit of color variation, and don't need a base coat. I used mostly C316 (almost 3 bottles!) and tried to break it up by painting some panels with C69 and C311. It looks a lot better in real life - the camera didn't quite pick up all the different shades.

    Looks great. I have Natie, but I have other ideas for a diorama for that figure. I love your fallen robot diorama. It also reminds me of the Astro Boy animated movie that came out in the 2000's.

      @@OstrichLongneckFor sure. It's like the figures from ICM - I want to get a whole bunch of the 1910 series, but there's all the 1/35th scale figures that would add to them, but ICM doesn't make them all in 1/24th scale. - also, it would be awesome if Mini Art scaled up their massive 1/35th scale accessories kits to 1/24th. Barrels, metal lathes, grocery carts...that would be awesome!

      @@MonsterHobbiesModelCarGarage So true! ICM is in a class of their own, though. Their details are magnificent. It's so true what you said about the scales, though. I, for one, would love to create 24-scale dioramas with heaps of figures and accessories! There just aren't much of them, unless one goes over to the dark side an invests in a 3D printer, I guess 😒

    Excellent model Trevor! A very brave move with all the trenching - I would not have been confident I could hide them but you have managed it nicely. Does the UV resin sand nicely alongside the main body resin? I find if one is much harder than the other it all turns to custard. I had forgotten Hawk's ancestors came from Easter Island. A pity they didn't come from New Zealand (my birth place) as a species descended from the Kiwi bird would have been very different!

    • @OstrichLongneck
      @OstrichLongneck Год назад

      Hi Alon, thanks so much 😁I was surprised that the UV resin worked as well as it did. It sanded down almost seamlessly and was easy to re-scribe. LOL, if poor Hawk had Kiwi bird genes they would have had to cast Danny de Vito in a Penguin-esque version! I didn't know you are a fellow Southern hemispherian 😁 Thanks so much for dropping by! Much appreciated, as always!
