I'll never wear anything but my 1969 Red Mk2 1680 Sub with the rattly, loose, a bit sloppy Rolex USA hollow rivet for really special occasions, or my 1984 16800 for daily use. I'll leave the "bling" newer subs to the young bucks trying to impress their dates who don't know better. They look a bit "plastic-like" to me......just my opinion though 100%. Something about writing "Rolex" on the watch 20+ times in different locations makes it looks like it has a "I'm real damn it" inferiority complex. It almost exudes a sense of paranoya. It looks "loud", like it's "shouting Rolex"..... if that's a thing. The '69 Red Sub hasn't been duplicated as far as I know, and never will be, and you just know what it is instantly, it doesn't have to "tell you" a thing....... it just is. Classy and subtle AF.

Great review. The case of the G is Not exacly the same as the DW. It is slightly wider with a little less lug to lug which on my wrist is very noticeable when wearing.

Rolex doesn't offer laser welding. When giving the watch to them for a service you also have to mention specifically that you do not want a polish if the watch is a bit older. Cartier advises for example that polishing should not be done more than three times in the lifetime of a watch.

The number one reason I do not buy a 6 digit Rolex is the welded bracelet/clasp and crown.

I know it’s iconic, but I can’t give Rolex my money. If people can’t just buy it when they want it, the brand isn’t for me. I understand all the reasons people can’t just go buy one, but that’s not for me. There are so many other watch brands that make equivalent/ or better watches for less money and are far more accessible. Omega, Zenith, Grand Seiko, Glasshutte Original, Breitling, IWC, Tudor, VC, JLC, Blancpain. I digress. Rolex is going to dig their own grave in the next 20 years. Just my humble opinion.

Please, do NOT use a metal screwdriver, or anything metal, to remove the bezel. There are plenty of plastic pry bars (IFixIt makes a great one) - they work just as well and no risk of damage to the case.

Fortunately, I only like digital watches and the G-Shock 5000 series are my "collectables". The G-5600UE, is my daily beater and it's a great watch for the price. The solar charging was the selling point.

I find modern GMTMASTER or SUB a little bit too nice. It is sterile. You put them on your wrist and you want to like them but they sit too high, they are a jewellery item that you don’t want to scratch them. Whereas the pre ceramic fit like a glove, they are more tool like and built the reputation that Rolex now enjoys. You can liken it to a new Mercedes vs an Old Mercedes. The newer is more expensive and you are meant to be happy with it but it is often a let down. The old Mercedes, BMW, Peugeot or whatever just satisfies. Maybe it is because you have less expectation from it. I don’t know. That is how I feel about Rolex.

Really we either like it or we dont. I like the latest upgrades but those prices burn.
