👏oilers fan!
Thanks for showing the comparison between ancient copper and Baileys red!
I enjoy watching your kiln openings and tutorials Kim, thank you. Love your glaze combos and you’ve given me hope for the muddy waters I could never get to work. I’m glazing a porcelain bowl with it with a slight variation! I’ll share it soon. Thanks again!❤
Nice that you still share being busy and all! Thank you❤
Wow I don’t know if I’ve seen the mulberry with indigo rain combo before. I love it! The aurora green with the copper is great as well. The refired platter is amaaaazing!! So sad it cracked darn it!! If you put a 2 part epoxy, that is food safe, on both sides of the platter it will be food safe for you. And good for you for remembering to put cones in and on all the shelves. Lol. I found that putting taller things on my bottom shelf has realllly helped even out my kiln. I can soo relate to the glazeathon for sure. All spring and summer, even into the fall, I slipcast and made pots. Glazed very little. Fired 3 very full kiln loads and have hundreds of pits to glaze during the winter. We are just starting to get real cold here in Iowa!! Oh Todd. My gosh the trees are absolutely gorgeous! That’s amazing!! I saw some in the background of your last video. Glad that I could help with the leather glaze. I pray you find something you can do about your shipping.
Thanks for sharing Cold and white here and more snow on the way yuk. Stay warm
Nice intro! I do relate to the glaze-a-thon. I've been doing the same. I am thinking of trying your sunrise combo, except with pearl white over instead of river birch. I'll let you know if it turns out...or if it runs off the pot! I've been using Mayco's copper float instead of ancient copper. I think it's kinda inbetween the new and old AC. Love the trees Todd! You could also string them with fairy lights on the outside if you want. Thanks for sharing your combos!
Thank you! Look forward to seeing how your piece turns out with the Pearl white! I do use copper float as well, I think I like the more rustic look for this piece!
Love your stuff always look forward to you two sharing. I just wanted to say when I use Copper Float (cone 6) it is so close to the old Ancient Copper, not sure if I can tell the difference. I myself am not trilled with the new Ancient Copper, so Copper Float is my now new go to. Maybe you already knew, just wanted to share just incase you didn't. :) Vickie
Same here. Very disappointed in the new AC.
Your design inspired me to make a few of these bowls in preparation for my annual holiday sale. The bowls came out of the bisque and looked great. Unfortunately the glazing was less successful. The glaze on each ran down onto the kiln shelf (didn't have big enough "cookies"!) right at the bottom of the cut. I guess glaze was pooling on top of the cut and when combined with the glaze on the tallest part of the wall was too thick and ran like glaze sometimes does around the base of a handle. 😥 A good learning experience and lots of practise in grinding. My "seconds" bin is now quite full! Still love the shape and will be trying again. Thanks for showing us your process.👏
Kim, thank you for making this video! How many lbs of clay do you start with?
Brilliant, many thanks! I will definitely give this a try. How kind of you to share your skills ❤
Thank you so much that was excellent
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it 😊
How about calling that glaze combo black sand beach 😊
Thanks so much Kim, so very helpful. As there is no way I can throw that amount of clay I think that I will try making one with a slab. 😀 Thankyou for sharing your knowledge.
You are very welcome, same principle for a slab!
Thanks for the great video. I love the wheel the most too and the glazing is my least favorite mostly because it's so time consuming and the hardest to get consistent results at.
So true, glazing can be such a disappointment, especially when you have in your mind how it will turn out and it doesn’t at all look the way you thought it would!
Thank you Kim! I am definitely going to try this when Christmas is over! I now have two new wheels so I am able to make bigger things!❤
That’s awesome Ellen! Did you get two wheels do you could use different color clays?
@ yeah I did! One shimpoo whisper and the shimpo s3, lucky me! And it is easy! One for trimming and one for throwing! And like you say for different colors of clay! But best of all they stop when I want too!! Did you see my video throwing with my old wheel?? That did not stop when I wanted it to😂😂😂
Thank you. I will be tring this.😊
You are welcome!
Wow Kim that is ALOT of clay!!! Wow!! Great tutorial!!❤
Thank you 😊
Excellent tutorial Kim! I’ve been making these for years, both on the wheel and slab built.I like your use of the shredder. It really made nice smooth edges. I remember you saying in a glaze video that sometimes yours crack when drying, I wrap each of mine in 100% cotton, then in plastic for 2 days. It gives the clay a chance to homogenize. I find I no longer have issues with cracking. That was a tip from Naomi Clement. Thank you so much for sharing! 😊
That’s a great tip, I will have to try that!
@ even an old cotton bedsheet would work. I had the worst issues with my handles… this was a game changer! Good luck, I look forward to hearing if it makes a difference for you. 🙏
I could make the wonky bowl NP THANKS FOR SHARING
😂
Thanks for sharing Kim! I’ve never made one like this, I’ll give it a try!❤️👍🏻
I’ll look forward to seeing yours when it comes out of the kiln 😊
Thanks for the relaxing show :) learn something new everyday , happy weekend 🇨🇦🙌🏼
😂 thank you Christine
What an amazing way to look at things. I know this post was old but must have been meant for me to see at this point in my life because I am going to try to embrace the fire and look forward to what comes out on the other end. Thank you for this ! ! !
So glad this impacted you! I’ve been thinking I should do more videos, so thanks for commenting!
Thank you for sharing - I hope to try one of these the next time I get on the wheel.
You're welcome, it's a fun one to make!
Very interesting! Thanks. How many pounds of clay do you start with for these?
I have no idea 😂 Probably around 6lbs but I never weigh them!
Thanks for this tute, Kim. I have been making mine from a slab but I would like to try your version. ❤. Thanks for sharing!
Can’t wait to see how yours turns out!
You are a fabulous teacher. Thanks for explaining the stiffness of the clay. Great tutorial, Diane Tewes❤
Awe thank you 😊
This is a great tutorial! An easy way I make plaster bats is using a springform cheesecake pan.
That’s a great idea!!!
2 things try Pirate ship and put the cup in the freezer then tap with a hammer and usually the cookie pops off
Thank you for the suggestions! I did finally go with one of those company’s today, purolator just didn’t get back to me, I’m sure they are crazy busy! I went with ship time, they are all probably very similar! I was surprised how cheap the rates were in most cases! Hopefully everything will arrive safe and sound!
Your muddy waters is so much prettier than mine...mine turned out really brown and mat
I make sure that there are a lot of crystals!
Wow! You guys are really cranking out the kiln loads, I love it, you always have something for me to watch 😄. I love that you have names for your glaze combos. I really have to try the engobes, I have all the sample sizes of them but haven't played with them yet. Your Woodland Berry is one of my favourite combos of yours, I have to try it. Thank you for sharing all of your beautiful combos x
Thank you Jane! Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Purolator is contracted to Canada Post.
That’s probably why I feel like I could trust them with my packages! I’m a loyal Canada post customer 😊
Thank you for using Purolator!
I’m not a potter, butI dislike puralator the most! I’ve had several packages ordered through Amazon, using puralator, and I have never gotten them. They just ended up being shipped back to the seller. Whoever Sarah Walton uses to ship in Canada is great. I think it was Chit chat or something like that
I sent out a whole bunch today with purolator and now I’m hoping I never see them again 😂
Your kiln openings are always inspiring. ❤️
Thank you 😊
I do care - it helps if I want to order something
Thank you 😊
Please always make a video of your kiln openings!! lol. Ooh la la. That lone star is gorgeous!!
I love your casual talk and stories so never think they are boring. Thank you for sharing and being so open. Love all of your pottery so keep doing what you're doing. :)
Thank you so much 😊
Please always make a video of your kiln openings!! lol. Ooh la la. That lone star is gorgeous!! I just realized, do you both have the same glasses? Lol. I was thinking with your muddy water bowls you could just add 2 layers of leather and then one coat of the muddy waters. On the top half. Leather is the base glaze and it’s also incredibly stable. That might save you some time grinding bottoms. Lol. I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with that strike!! That’s tough. Oh no you said it!! Hahaha. Every dang time you say that! How funny! For big pieces definitely think about double boxing with a bigger box and padding between the two boxes. ❤
Thank you, I was just wondering today what the base glaze of muddy waters was and was going to look it up!!
@ Oh great! Well there you go. Lol
Your pots have really good color combinations. One time you talked about rose quartz and what cone you use to get a nice color. I followed you what you did and my piece had a pretty glaze. Thanks
I am glad to hear your piece turned out well!
Aqua Abyss
Thanks for sharing I am not a shipper but a buyer and Fedx has always been the cheapest option for me and fast delivery . I buy some of my soap making supply from BC and pottery supplies from Winninpeg, I have to pick it up in town because I am rural, I think the last order from BC was 2 days and Winninpeg is the next day, Never any dents always arrive in good shape, Canada post is 2 to 3 days
That’s good to know, I will look into them as well!
@@undsethpottery You should Email Sounding stone they are very helpful and would most likely share info on the good and bad
Ya, that Canada Post strike is a thorn in our side at the moment! I use the service ClickShip. However, I have not had to ship yet so I don't know what it looks like on the site yet. I will be doing an email subscriber sale and WILL have to ship. I will let you know. Thanks for your info on your couriers advice! Ooooo...I didn't think of ANGEL FEATHERS!😂😇🪽 Thanks you, two!
❤
That’s a gorgeous kiln load.
Good kiln load as ever. I love all your combinations. Could I ask for some advice. I made a large oval platter at my pottery group. It is put on silica sand when kilned. Unfortunately it cracked into pieces. There was no glaze on the inside of the cracks How do you get your platters so flat. I love them. Going to have another go next week. Any tips would gratefully be received. Jeanette 🇬🇧
Platters can been so frustrating, between cracking and warping! Todd dries them very slow on a piece of drywall, under plastic, the drywall absorbs some of the moisture which helps with even drying!
Thank you so much for sharing your glazes! I’ve learned so much from you two!
You're very welcome 😊
Love the names! + On the muddy waters plater... how many coats and what do you fire to (i.e where in the kiln did it sit)? My muddy waters does not have enough blue and comes out matte (that said my kiln got to cone 7 this time). Much thanks for all your efforts - your glazes are beautiful!
I usually put the muddy waters on the middle shelves and my fitting gets to cone 5.5. With muddy waters you have to make sure you get lots of crystals, I do three good coats!
Hey Kim! New follower here, is this the hoffman schedule?
It’s a little different but the Hoffman schedule works good as well! What I do is in the description!
I love the names for your glaze combos! At what stage do you apply the engobes?
Thank you! IT depends, I as the engobe before bisque if it’s a piece that needs a dipping glaze! I apply it to the bisque piece if I’m just hand painting glaze as it doesn’t really matter!
