Todd take heart, I had lots of cracking on joined pieces… until I was told to score… then add your vinegar or magic water…. Then score again (making slip). I do this on both pieces to join. Now I never ever get cracking! Kim is such a master potter, and I thought it would be nice to have reassurance from a newer (10 years) potter. Good luck! Looking forward to seeing more mugs!
Another wonderful opening. Do you mind sharing what you used on the first mugs? (Buck and horse) it’s such a beautiful neutral. Thank you! Have a wonderful weekend. I always enjoy these so much
Hey guys I’m surprised Todd hasn’t broken anything yet he must be very coordinated lol. Oh Thankyou for the shoutout and clarification on the seaweed! I didn’t know that maybe that’s why I haven’t liked it! I shall persist! Yr daughter’s mug is sooo pretty. Looks like a green toffee apple! 🍏 oh I’m in the magic mirror haha too funny! Todd’s face when u said tampons OMGGGG hahaha I’m still laughing!! Even in Australia we say if u want a man to leave a room talk about tampons haha! Ohhh yessss pottery post!!!! Dedicated pottery delivery service!!! Love it! Omg that was so fun Thankyou! Nat xx
Hi Kim and Todd, I love your videos and I’m sorry about the Strike. I hope it will get resolved soon! I love the cardinal mugs. Tell Todd to use vinegar on the joints. I don’t make much handbuilding pieces but I always hear from other people that vinegar creates a strong bond. Thanks for sharing your glazes!❤️
You’re saying sanbao correctly with the bow as in bow down. Todd I can’t imagine you keeping much to yourself! Hahaha. Oh no Todd I’m so sorry. I’ve found that mugs with bottoms work the best!! Wow those were handbuilt?? It’s a beautiful mug, seriously! I love the handle as welll. You can do it Todd!!! Those mugs would be a fun gag gift! Omg you two make me laugh so much!! I’m so very sorry about the post office not being open for so long. Wow I can’t imagine. Just to make things fair, both of your rants were warranted!❤❤❤
Well if nothing else you made some of us laugh. Your rants turn into a comedy skit , lol, too funny. Thank you so much for the information on seaweed. I love how generous pottery people are with helping each other . I watched Nats opening with seaweed on that piece. I’m about to open my kiln which has my first attempt at northern lights in it. I’ve only just bought obsidian. It will be more interesting now. Artist who mixes black from several mediums. I usually mix it from ultramarine blue and a brown, or deep red and phalo green so there’s a lot of blue in the mix. I’m guessing most black glazes have a lot of blue in them.
@ im not an expert but possibly depending on the amount of different pigments , if you mix red yellow and blue in artist paints you either get a brown or a muddy grey. One primary needs to be dominant. So you’d need to put one on without the other underneath I think. Audrey Burm might know more , she’s a watercolour painter too, watercolour is a particularly tricky medium to mix without making mud. :)
If you are looking for a substitute green glaze, Earth Nation Ceramics has a video out of a test he ran on River Moss, an Amaco dipping glaze. The graphic on the packaging makes it look very olive green, but his results showed it to be a dark, clear green.
Oh no pantone! A weird brown is the color of the year 😅 and here i am making bright jewel tones. I was sure it was going to be a kind of orange color 😂 So interesting about obsidian and seaweed! It always overwhelms anything i put over it 🖤 Sorry about your mug bottoms they look like they have really nice handles tho
Roper room never said my name either nor could I get the little license plates with my name I have been scared my whole life. I get my stuff shipped from sounding stone and Fed ex it has always been the cheapest maybe they have a business rate
We all need to rant at times and I think that is a good subject to share about. I did see something in the news that couriers were going to refuse pick ups due to their own busy-ness. This too shall pass.
I am glad that you did not cut out that portion about shipping ! It is so frustrating and that CanPar story is unbelievable! I use the platform click ship which I think is much like ship station and I really like it but truthfully, I have not sent anything yet, and will be doing on, Sunday. I may get the same notice from the Purolator option. Anyway, thanks for the kiln unload it was really great. Love the decals. Agreed, color of the year sucks. So frustrating for Todd with those mugs but I love the, " I see lisa, and I see ellen....." Hahaha !
Purolator is back online, on my shipping platform but they have raised all the prices, every order is $8-10 more! So I switched again to net parcel and the purolator prices are less! So strange!
Todd could make some saucers and glaze glue them and they would make cute planters or pencil / paintbrush holders. I feel his disappointment but tell him not to give up. Glazing is my hurdle and as hard as it is I keep trying and for every success my failures are getting less and less.

@ it’s beautiful! Thanks so much

Cauld you use your bottomless mugs for some sort of garden stack
FYI you could sell those mugs as bottomless coffee cups for the coffee lover lol
😂
I agree! Never having my name said on Romper Room was scarring. It meant i wasn’t seen.
Great opening, as always

A coil blended on the inside of the mug as well as scoring the seam well will solve your mug separations.

Yes my black glaze also has a lot of cobalt but the seaweed never looks good on it for some reason!

I feel your pain, Todd. I too never had my name mentioned with Romper Room!!
Those mugs aren't a loss! As a coffee drinker I'd love a bottomless cup of coffee..😅 (I'll see myself out)
😂
I love that green mug 😍 When did Todd give up his juggling? He’s a bit rusty… xx

He could use those bottomless mugs as test glaze mugs and could even use them for pen holders or spoons.
Or plant holders for herbs.

Sorry about your mug bottoms they look like they have really nice handles tho
Todd? You can use it as a holder for plants when they fell over! So it stay up straight! I think that would look great🎉
My weird but trustworthy mug bottom procedure is to put the circle on the inside of the cylinder. Give it a go.
I will let Todd know, thank you for the suggestion!
Todd! Pottery is a lesson in patience. Be patient, your mugs are great, try again.💪
Roper room never said my name either nor could I get the little license plates with my name I have been scared my whole life. I get my stuff shipped from sounding stone and Fed ex it has always been the cheapest maybe they have a business rate
Yes they definitely get a business rate!
We all need to rant at times and I think that is a good subject to share about. I did see something in the news that couriers were going to refuse pick ups due to their own busy-ness. This too shall pass.
So for Todd's bottomless mugs, can't you make and fire bottoms and then Fuze them to the mugs with glaze?

@undsethpottery Oh, weird! Thanks for the info, Kim! 🎄
I love those cardinal mugs. What glazes did you use and the clay?
That is the red brick engobe x3, then 2 x honey flux 1x River birch
@ thank you
What if you made the bottomless mugs into little bird feeders or a wind chime base? I can picture both by turning them horizontally!
Totally!
PS I was scarred by Romper Room too !
😂

Yes pottery does make us tenacious
