Ok.. your channel has quickly become one of my favorites! I’m binge watching your videos while home with the flu and am learning SO much from you! Thank you for all of the care and expertise you put into your videos!😊
Oh thank you so much for commenting! This is the best compliment a creator on RUclips can hear. I’m so sorry you are sick, but so happy I can help make the time go by faster. Feel better soon!
Lisa, those came out so beautifully. I'm certain your daughter was over the moon. I was so tickled to see your video pop up, it was just what I needed on this snowy day in Ohio. Always a cozy time in your studio. Watching in my studio (I've been working on my Holiday Coloring Book) I'm thankful for you, Lee
Ohhh Yay! I'm so glad I could be with you on a cold snowy day :) I was hoping everyone might need a little RUclips therapy after the holiday. How exciting for your coloring book!!!
Great video! I am a glazing hater largely because I don’t have a good process and I tend to hurry. Your video is very helpful on both those issues. Thanks!
Thank you so so much!! I really do tho I that breaking down all the steps and taking your time, not trying to give it a go all at once really helps. Hope to convert you to loving glaze day at some point 😂
Thank you so much! She did love it and it was so much fun to give to her. I'm not sure she wants to make an appearance on her moms youtube channel otherwise I'd post the video I got of her opening it :)
Your range of emotions as you share each step of a project is so endearing! I get nervous during glazing and watching your approach and “fixes” along the way is greatly appreciated. No wonder your channel is growing so well. Keep up the good work, I’ll be watching each video 😊
Oh my that you so so much for your comment! I’m really enjoying making videos and like to picture you all in the studio with me 😊 so flattered that you are enjoying it so much. Thanks for all the support! I’m a fellow early riser myself!
Lisa hi, glazing and I don't go hand in hand. I feel it's such an important step in finishing a piece you have made, and that worries me and all the pieces I have done, I've not been particularly happy with. Because we're in class for such a short time, I want to try and make some nice pieces. 2 or 3 terms ago, I discussed and agreed with my tutor that I would so surface design with carving and or using underglazes, we have a new type, they are easy to use and so true to their colour and then just add a transparent glaze over. This has helped along with planning the glazing. Next week is our last week before the holidays, so have 4 or t small bowls to do, keep everything crossed for me 😅, this video has been good, thankyou😊 as a ps, the bowls are beautiful. I hoped your daughter loved it, the colour combo is gorgeous well done
Oh I have all my fingers and toes crossed for your bowls and last week in the studio before the holidays! I remember a teacher telling me once how important glazing was, but I just didn't enjoy it and only wanted to be on the wheel. After a while I certainly got more into glazes and learned to love it. I totally get it though, it's just not the most fun for many. I'm glad you found a technique for you thats working with the underglazes! Thats fantastic. Best of luck to you this week :)
I really enjoy your videos. I do feel it’s important to share that any surface that will in contact with food or liquids needs to be glazed (with food-safe glaze) to be considered “food safe”. Try using Stroke and Coat on the edges before bisque firing. It will act as a resist for the final glaze and is food safe.
Are you going to give us a tour of your redesigned studio when it's done? I would love to see how you organize your areas. Also, if you use wax resist on the rims, how do you make them food safe without glazing that portion? Maybe I missed that part. But I totally love your videos. You are inspiring.
You bet I will!! It’s in progress right now but only framed out and most of the electrical is done. I will probably make a progress video here soon and then a final tour once I’m moved back in ☺️ For the rim, the clay I use is considered food safe on its own per the US standards. The bigger issue you have to worry about is that your clay body is fully vitrified and has a very low absorption rate (less than .5%) otherwise it can absorb liquid and potential stain. I’ve tested my clay body quite a lot (actually tried to soak it in wine/coffee etc.) and cannot get it to stain if I wanted to. Hope that helps!
I admire your meticulous process. I slap glazes on and hope for the best so I guess the outcome shows the difference, HA! I do have one question. Why do you go through the second step with the decal of using transfer tape? Can't you just apply the decal to t he pottery and get the same result? I would think that if you rub the decal firmly enough that it would stick. Your daughter is a lucky girl! Your matcha pots are both beautiful and I love teal. Nice work!! 😍
Thank you so so much! About the transfer tape, you could potentially use just the decal but those stinkers are kinda like working with saran wrap, the tend to stick to themselves and be a pain so the transfer tape makes it a bit easier, also if you are doing lettering or have 'internals' of images (think of like the hole in a letter, like A or O) where you'd have to get the two pieces lined up accurately, the transfer tape makes that really easy. Hope that makes sense!
Lisa thank you an other great video! There is so many tips and trick it’s always makes sense to watch it couple of times :) I have a difficult question, I’m trying to come up with some idea. I have an old Amaco wax resist. Unfortunately it probably dried out even in the closed original bucket. Maybe you have an idea how to make it “workable” again? Maybe the only way - to buy an other one 🤔😅
Thank you so much!!! I have been there too with the wax hardening up and in the past I’ve just tossed it but another subscriber here recently told me you should be able to heat it up and let it melt again and hopefully it will reconstitute. Worth a try for sure, I’m not sure if you would microwave it or just put the whole container in some boiling water maybe? I’d test myself but I don’t have any that has gone hard on me at the moment 😕good luck! Keep me posted on what you try
You’re welcome! It’s actually quite smooth on my clay body, but you can always use diamonds sanding pad just a bit if your have a groggier body. I’ll try to show that in a future video!

Thank you so much Stacy! That’s the kindest thing to say I really appreciate it and I’m looking forward to making more videos in the new year. 😊

I LOVE glaze days!!
Me too!!! I mean, I love just about any day in the studio :) Thanks for watching!

Thank you so much for this comment, it’s actually a topic I plan to address in my next video stay tuned!
Hi Lisa, I also do woodwork. I live in western SD so if you're ever in this neck of the woods let me know, we could have coffee or tea.
No kidding that’s fantastic! Coffee or tea would be lovely 😊
Yes, all that fiddly work paid off.
Nice having that baby kiln available for "Oh my God, it's gotta be done tomorrow!" jobs.
It is a huge blessing for sure! Thanks for watching ☺️

Thanks for the video. Do you leave your waxed rim with the bare clay ? It looks stunning but how would it feel on a mug that was being drank from ?

@@Lisa.Riland OK great ! I LOVE how it looks ! Thanks for all your great content. I’ve learned so much !
@aprillemaster8142 you are so welcome, that makes me so happy to hear!!
@aprillemaster8142 you are very welcome! Thanks for watching ☺️
Great job! Do you sell your work?
Thank you so much! I have sold a little here and there but not in quite a while. Maybe I'll make that a 2025 goal :)
Im an odd ball I love glazing.
Yay! I'm not alone :)
