I appreciate that you talk about the firing schedules. I’m looking for help to better understand firing schedules impact on glazes and how to use firing to address misbehaved glasses. Most of all, thank you so much for sharing.
I love your kiln openings - thanks! My desert dusk doesn’t have nearly the amount or size of crystals that yours does, and I have stirred it over and over. Might have to order some more and hope it’s better.
Amazing opening as usual 😊 I have to admit that I was not so crazy about the desert dusk on my baking dish… I think it might be my kiln schedule… need to go higher. Thank you so much for sharing all your combinations and details about your schedule ❤
I hope you rested up for your open studio event and it goes better than planned! I had a thought about the Desert Dust pieces you did. Mostly the mugs. I have not used it too much myself because I wasn’t sure of the color, not my thing. But as I was looking at what you pulled out of the kiln, I thought that brown or black enrobe on the bottom of the mugs would be really cool! I think I may try that! Love your channel 💜
Hi Kim! Wonderful kilnopening! I saw your short in the middle of the night 😂 (3 o’clock), went back to sleep and watch the kilnopening! ❤love it! Greetings from the Netherlands! And a 1000 viewers! Hope I will get that too! On to 300 right now🎉🎉
Gorgeous work!!! Will you please do a demo painting on the gold? I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but mine comes out with dark spots. I thought I need to paint the gold on thicker, but it still came out spotty.
I will do a video next time I’m splitting gold! The glaze underneath does affect the gold! If you have a Matt glaze the gold will have a Matt appearance!
I love all of your combos with black engobe! Now I see why you don’t overlap the glazes with the engobe much. Looks better with no overlap and the glazes stay vibrant. Genius 😊 thanks for sharing the firing schedule changes, that seems to have solved your sangria and hopefully kimchi issues. I just started firing a kiln last year and so it’s informative to see how they can be finetuned. Did you fire your decals and gold luster together in the kiln? Just curious since I have been using both but last time a couple of my decals rubbed right off after firing.-Liana PS hope your studio tour goes awesome
The sanbao decals and gold both fire to 018 so I do them together Never any problems! The expression decals fire to 016 so I fire them separately! If I wanted to add gold to the expression decals I would fire to the hotter temperature first (which would be the 016 decals) and then add the gold in a separate firing, hope that makes sense!
Wow! Fabulous kiln load!! People really love pumpkins in all kinds of crazy colors! I just wanted to ask you, after you sand the bottoms how do you get all of the bisque paste off the pots? I’ve found that I actually have to wash all of the pieces afterwards and it’s so much work. I’ve tried just rinsing them but that just isn’t enough. Thanks so much and CONGRATULATIONS ON 1000!! You so deserve it!!
Thank you, you are always so encouraging 😊 I have advancer shelves do I don’t have to worry about kiln wash sticking to my engobe! You might be able to just lightly hand sand!
@@undsethpottery That’s so sweet of you! Thank you. I mean on my regular pots as well, not only the engobes. I do only handbuild so my bottoms are rough sometimes.
@@micheledickey4066 I just sand and then wash them! I find the best is to wash them with a sponge before you bisque fire, this smooths out the rough areas without putting dust in the air!
@@undsethpottery Thank you so much. I never hear anyone talk about having to wash their pots after sanding so I was really wondering what everyone else does. Thanks again.
As always so many beautiful glaze combinations. Cirrus flow is gorgeous 😅lol. Excuse my question, I'm so new at this. Your glaze firing is entered in as a ramp schedule being 4 segments. So no. 1 is the first temperature segment you enter then no. 2, 3 and 4 being the last. You aren't adding this to the pre- programmed cone 5 firing schedule in your kiln. Say.......at the start and the end. I hope I'm explaining my self properly. Excuse my ignorance. Goodnight 😊
Great kiln opening! Loved all the glaze combos. Congrats on over 1000 subscribers! I hope your studio was a success.
Thank you 😊

Thank you 😊
I wonder if the crystals get bigger with the type of firing!
Hey Kim!! Thanks so much for the shout out! I gave u a few on my latest too! Gotta do that black n pink looooove! Good luck with your tours. Nat xx
Thank you so much Nat!!
Thanks again, kim. CONGRATS on making 1000! So fun to pull in a little cash for glazes, heh? Much success on your studio tour event!
Thank you so much Audrey!
I would call that bowl muddy falls 😊
Yes that’s a good name!
Love love love the black engobe, cirrus flow, texured turquoise, aurora green mugs. Will have to try it. Love watching your videos
Thank you 😊 hope you have great success!!

Thank you! This is my first time using it, so maybe it does depend on a slow cool firing! I love it though!
great combos I too am a morning person 4 am now makes my day when I can hame my am coffee to a kiln opning thank you
That is a couple hours earlier than me 😂

The textured dessert dishes look great. How many coats of glaze did you use on these for the texture to show through?
I did 3x
Love those pink pumpkins! Who says they have to be orange?

No, it’s a program that you need to put in! I will do a video because I’ve had a lot of people asking how to program the firing schedule
