MSR WhisperLite Cooking Stove - Review and How to Use
If you are looking for a cooking stove for your next motorcycle trip then this could be a product to consider. The MSR WhisperLite cooking stove's main advantage is the fact that it uses regular gasoline from your motorcycle.
It's not the most compact option when you consider that you need to carry an extra bottle with it but if you don't want to rely on a gas canister that could be a good option for you.
My opinion is from the perspective of a motorcycle rider but may be useful video also if you are a camper or backpacker.

    Seems like a lot of extra volume to carry just to be able to use the fuel of your bike for cooking. I guess for really extended trips where you cannot get fresh gas canisters it would be nice, but otherwise I do not see much sense in this system, for myself at least.

    How often do you lubricate your chain?

    • @RoiaMoto
      @RoiaMoto 22 часа назад

      There is no fixed amount of time or miles. The best is to observe the chain noise and appearance. For instance. During my last trip I was riding a lot of sand, dust… daily cleaning and lubrication at the end of the day. However if I’m just riding between home and work, just tarmac without rain, I can go easily a full week without even touching the chain(probably more).

    n.1: is not necessarily a problem if it happens slowly as in over the period of many days/weeks! A lower level in the reservoir over a long period of time is due to brake-pads wearing down and the brake-system behind the reservoir requiring more fluid to press in the pistons, to compensate for the material that is now worn off the pads. That's why you also have the rubber pad that lies on top of the fluid coming down with it, it ensures that no vacuum can stop the fluid from going into the system and keeps out any air that could introduce moisture. n.7/bonus: I think you could add that keeping the chrome part of the suspension clean, down to the bottom, is vital for preventing leaking fork-seals. I even go as far as lightly lubricating it with Ballistol oil after cleaning it and compressing the fork a few times after applying the oil for it to go under the seals and keep them a bit moist, then wiping off the excess.

    • @RoiaMoto
      @RoiaMoto 6 дней назад

      Fully agree. Indeed what I mentioned in here are daily/frequent checks. I wouldn’t expect the brake fluid to drop quickly but over a longer period of time it will go down as the brake pads wear out. Good point about the front suspension!! Thanks for sharing

  • @guille_snapshooter
    @guille_snapshooter 7 дней назад

    Don’t top off the brake reservoir !. If the liquid is low and there is no visible leak that means the brake pads are worn, since the piston has to be further out of the caliper when the pads are worn there is more brake fluid on the caliper itself

    • @RoiaMoto
      @RoiaMoto 6 дней назад

      Hi Guillermo and thanks for the comment! Maybe a miss understanding. As I mentioned in the video, these are *daily* checks. I’m pretty sure it’s not possible to wear down your brake pad and notice a drop in brake fluid daily. If your brake fluid goes down within one day, that’s a problem that I cant imagine is connected with the brake pads wearing.

      Hi Thomas! I’ll reply in English as my German is not good enough 😅. My pleasure! This was the first video of the channel and I couldn’t let the rain stop me from doing it 😂. I bought this rear shock and front spring second hand. Luckily the set up was perfect for me (spring rate). I paid 500€ for everything. The difference is substantial. I can definitely notice the suspension is much better. I just came back from motorcycle trip with a friend of mine that has the 300 Rally with the stock suspension and the difference when riding on the same terrain is noticeable. The increase in performance is more accentuated when going over large consecutive bumps and holes. The rear shock simply reacts faster, doesn’t bottom out and it does not “kick” you up. Also the higher the speeds the more you will notice the improvement. My friend with the stock rear shock could complete the trip just like a did. So, is it a noticeable upgrade? Yes. Is it mandatory? No. You can enjoy the stock rear shock to complete any trip you want. Regarding the height. I’m 1,75cm and my rear shock lowers the motorcycle by 30mm. In my opinion this is a must also for you. You have to consider that the stock rear shock is extremely soft. When you sit on your 300 Rally, your body weight will lower the motorcycle by some 50-70mm. If you install an upgraded rear shock this will not happen. So even though my rear shock is 30mm shorter, in practice it feels about the same as the stock rear shock when I sit on it. If you don’t install a lower rear shock the motorcycle will feel much taller.

    Great tutorial, never imagined a shock with external reservoir would fit in the 300L. Had mine just over a year now and thinking of replacing the shock as I weigh about 110kg and definitely hit its limits as my experience and speed has increased. What do you think about only replacing the shock? As I dont have any complaints about the forks, just dont like the really hard kick I get from the rear as it rebounds from a full compression, thanks

    • @RoiaMoto
      @RoiaMoto 13 дней назад

      Thanks for the comment!! With all of my protective gear my rider weight is about 90-95kg. Depends how much I’ve been eating 😂. I just came back from a motorcycle trip with a friend of mine that has the 300 Rally with the stock rear shock and the difference is substantial. You will notice the difference the faster you go, larger bumps and holes and specially if there are consecutive holes/bumps where the rear shock has less time to re-estabilize. At 110kg you are probably losing close to 60-70% of your suspension travel just with your body weight. I think you will benefit a lot from it. With that said, my friend with the stock rear shock was able to complete the motorcycle trip just like I did. If you’ve got the extra cash to splurge I don’t think you will be disappointed. There is no problem to upgrade only the rear shock and leave the original front spring. However changing the front spring should not cost too much. Can be done with +- 100 U$. If you are already pulling the trigger on the expensive upgrade for the rear shock, might as well just add a bit more for the front spring as well.

      @@RoiaMoto ah you're a featherweight then! But good to hear you think the resr alone should be ok cheers, I'll probably just do the shock to begin with as it looks a fairly easy job compared to the forks, if I feel the forks are letting me down I'll think about them later, but I then wonder if I got a stronger/stiffer spring up front if I'd start to have the same rebound problems without any changes to rebound damping, but I'll take it one step at a time I think, hopefully the shock will let me keep pace with the others through the whoops on the trails without the worry of being kicked up and off the bike by the rear!

    I sent a similar comment but did not see it post. Have you ever used Birchwood Casey aluminum black on your rim scratches. Having multiple black rim off road bikes, I get a quite a few scratches from changing tires and the terrain. The product has a chemical reaction with the aluminum, permanently changing the color black, masking the scratch. The best part, it’s not paint. It could be a great product review for your channel. Hi Keith! I had never heard about this product but looks quite interesting! I specially like the fact that it’s not a paint but an actual chemical reaction!

    I was looking at the Enduro version with Gore-Tex lining, do you have any feedback on them? How are they different? Would the enduro sole be better when off the motorcycle than the MX sole?

      @RoiaMoto 19 дней назад

      Hi mate I have never tried the enduro version so I can’t share my personal experience. A few comments I can make based on the data sheet. The sole should be better, however I haven’t found the sole of the standard SG22 to be a problem. The goretex makes it water proof but you must match it with an over the boot trousers. Don’t let water get inside by sipping in via your legs. If the Enduro version gets wet, it’s expected to take longer to try. Usually products that have a Gortex layers breath less. Expect higher temperatures inside your boot. If you ride often in a cold/wet environment, for example UK/Sweden, it might make sense. If however you ride in Australia, Im not sure it’s worth it.
