MOTORCYCLE TRAVEL NOT WHAT YOU EXPECT

  • Motorcycle adventure travelling is for me is hands down the most enjoyable way to explore the world.
    It just hit the sweet spot of physical effort, speed, adrenaline, pain, challenges, scenery.... you get to have it all.
    What you will soon realise as soon as you start your motorcycle adventure, specially if off-road is part of it, is that you must be ready to adapt. You will drop your motorcycle. You may hurt yourself. The weather may turn on you. A route you've planned is no longer accessible.
    You've got to be ready to expect the unexpected.
    In this video I share a couple of stories from my last Trans Euro Trail trip from 2023 with another 2 riders across Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro.
    If you are in the United States, get started with BDR (Backcountry discovery routes)
    ridebdr.com
    If you are in Europe, gets started with TET (Trans Euro Trail)
    transeurotrail...
    It's super important to develop skills to fix your motorcycle during your trips.
    Check out the channel for many How-to videos focused on the Honda CRF300L.

    Yup, you 100% get it. You defined adventure! As an added bonus, when you step outside your normal day to day "box" and do stuff you're not comfortable doing (because it's all new) time slows down. Days become weeks; weeks become months. It's a great way to live!! Thanks for the great video!

    Offroad newbie here, some 45 days of offroading experience since spring 2023. My GF and myself are just traveling, and training for becoming better offroad riders.
    But if we are honest and think back, yes, the achieved, overcome and sometimes failed challenges are what are deep dug in our memories.
    This video is so spot on - a big thank you!

    Great thoughts - I have been thinking about the idea of challenge a lot recently. When you think about it, thanks to the many innovations in technology that have came before us, we often live comfortable lives. Sometimes we play video games or watch TV shows to find some drama, but by taking ourselves out of our comfort zones we can find this drama for ourselves. The trick is, as you say, to do this in as controlled a way as possible so we come home safely. The CRF 300 is a great a help to this!

    Rode 16 days through 7 western States, over 4000 miles. Tent camped every night. Glorious.
    We were well prepared, but things happen. Multiple flats, a new chain that was apparently made of cheese, prohibited by snow on mountain passes, roads washed out, carb issues as well.
    A lifetime memory.

    I was going to wait until tomorrow to comment on this video, but it just started raining and all of my gear is outside. I jumped up out of bed with no time to put clothes on and rushed to gather all of my gear which I knew was dry, but I was going to gather tomorrow. I own a used '22 CRF300 L which I purchased to ride the TAT and yesterday was my first time riding it outside of my backyard. I went with a friend to an off road park where EVERYTHING seemed to go wrong. My chain came off, my friend passed me on the trail because he did not recognize me behind another rider when I was going back to check on him, no cell service and no communication devices, I got stuck in a puddle which I believe led to my bike not being able to start. It fell over and was almost underwater but still running when I stood it up. It ran enough for me to climb straight out of the hole which was 8 feet deep. The next time the bike stopped running it would not restart. I sat for 1.5 hrs waiting for someone to come by and another 1.5 hrs to have a plan to get me back to the parking lot. After a 40min tow I loaded the bike back on the trailer and headed home. This video, my experience yesterday and the sudden unexpected rain that just fell all leads me to believe that I am choosing the right sport for me and I will embrace the "suck" and look forward to whatever the future holds. I do have a few new friends because of getting stuck and my gear is inside and dry. This video could not have come at a better time for me, thanks!

      That’s the spirit. There is no other way is saying, with aventure motorcycling something will always end up happening and you will need to overcome and adapt. I think that to enjoy this sport you need to accept that challenges are part of the adventure.
      Safe ride!

    Lesson learned. Make sure everyone has a reliable motorcycle. At least semi-reliable. Being a novice, I can understand why some experienced riders might not want me along on a long journey.

    • @RoiaMoto
      @RoiaMoto  4 месяца назад +1

      I definitely recommend a reliable/newer bike. In my opinion is not worth the hassle of buying a 20+ year old motorcycle.
      This friend of mine has now bought a CRF300L rally for our next trip since he has had so many issues.
      About your comment on being a novice, at least for me, all it matters is that you prepare yourself the best you can and you are engaged.
      I have already gone on trips with some clueless guys that were not engaged. No interest to try solve the situation and "expect" the more experience riders to handle everything. That's a problem.
      But if you are a novice and despite the limited knowledge you are engaged and doing your best, most riders will be happy to have you along and help.
      chers, brother! Ride safe

    awesome video brother ! can't wait to make my first trip with the trusty CRF300L I bought and began to modify to my liking!
    I definitely want those rear AS-Fairing Guards... not sure about some crash protection bars up front? Im worried about the radiator... what are your experiences?

    • @RoiaMoto
      @RoiaMoto  4 месяца назад +1

      Thanks a lot brother! Glad you liked the video.
      The AS side luggage support is good but definitely not perfect. I had to modify some of the brackets as they were sticking out too much from the motorcycle and hurting the back of my calves. Hard to explain on a text. Once again, they are good but need a small adjustment. I wouldn’t recommend the rear rack from AS. Once again they stick out too much from the motorcycle.
      I don’t have any protection for the front section of the motorcycle and so far only my hand guards are hitting the ground. I do think is a good idea to add a radiator guard.

      @@RoiaMoto thank you for the response ! As for now, I don't know any alternatives for protecting my rear fairings especially with soft panniers mounted. I want to go for the reckless system or the GL coyote system in the future.
      If you need a recommendation for radiator guards: crash bars from Outback motortek or radiator braces from flatland racing, Adventure Spec or Yamoto !

      @@RoiaMoto As for now I don't know any alternatives to the AS-Side Luggage Support.... And I want to use Soft Panniers like the MM Reckless or the GL Coyote System without worrying about the rear plastics in a crash. So I think I will buy the AS Support and go for a different rear rack !

    I haven't traveled on motorcycles in a long time. But it is something I used to do after 2 years of riding. I went on on-road tours with my cousin. During the first tour we ever did, it was a very unexpectedly far journey that was squashed into 4-5 days, I had something bad in one the meals we had for dinner at a restaurant. That night I was not good. Emptied my stomach and could really not sleep well. The next day I had a headache and couldn't eat in the morning, but we had to continue. So we went. And when lunchtime came, we were riding through the rain somewhere along the French/Italian border, and we ended up at a restaurant/hotel in the middle of nowhere on the Italian side of the border. We came in, and I think were the only guests. There was a fire in the back of the dining room and we sat really close to it since we were both freezing from the rain. The owner was an old Italian lady, doing the entire thing. My cousin was hungry as hell and got something off the menu, but I was still feeling bad on my stomach. We told the lady somehow and she understood. So she said she will cook me something that will make me feel better. And she showed up with a soup that she made on the spot for me, which was not on the menu, and later she also made me drink a tea. Both indeed made me feel a lot better. We continued on our journey with fresh strength and warm from the fire. I will forever remember sitting on that table and the way the lady understood how I am feeling bad on my stomach and eagerly went into the kitchen saying she will prepare something for me. This is now 8 years ago and one of my best memories, despite coming from a miserable experience and feeling sick all day. I'm now getting into adventure riding after exploring myself in racing a bit. Can't wait to go on trips again.

      Beautiful story!! Thanks for taking the time to share it. Funny how 8 years later you can still recount the details of it. I’m convinced that challenging moments slow down how our brain perceives time and creates a longer lasting memory.
      Wish you many more memorable rides!

    • @RoiaMoto
      @RoiaMoto  4 месяца назад +1

      That's always helpful! I believe that if you intend on going to some isolated areas, even if just 50 miles away from civilisation in a place where you can't get help, some basic mechanical skills go along way.
      To be honest my friend had far too many issues, understandable since his motorcycle was quite old, and it would have been a disaster if we couldn't perform some basic repairs 😂. Luckily it all became good memories.
      ride safe!

    Since your friend got a CRF300Rally "After" the workout he put you through, he should at least compensate you for making you his "ward".🥵
    in return, you should gift him a zippo for the junk he chose to torture both of you with!😆
