This is the reason I haven't been able to post any car videos lately. I'm building my dream shop in the form of a 24x36x12 VersaTube metal building. In this video, we'll go through the process as I learn how to do it.
Building a Volvo B230 16-Valve Turbo Engine: Part 1
Просмотров 12 тыс.7 месяцев назад
I think this is technically the second episode of what I hope will be a cohesive series about my Volvo 142 Turbo project. In this video, we'll assemble the B230 bottom end that I've had in my garage for a couple years. It's getting lots of shiny, upgraded parts that should make for a durable path to a 400 horsepower Volvo.

I wanted all the switches in one place in my Land Rover Discovery, and it seems like Auxbeam has a good solution. In this video, I'll go through the unboxing, installation, and a brief review of the Auxbeam AR-600 LED Switch Panel. Here's the link to the panel: auxbeam.com/TFR2/AR-600 And here's a discount code to get 15% off: TFR2
I put 35s on my Disco 1!
Просмотров 27 тыс.10 месяцев назад
I've been wanting to put the Disco on (metric) 35s for a bit, and in this video, I'll show you everything I needed to do to make that happen. I'm making it harder on myself but not wanting to use fender flares, so gaining the needed clearance is a bit of work. 00:00 - Intro 00:37 - RTE 3" Springs 05:35 - Rear Suspension Link 07:51 - Making Rear Trailing Arms 16:31 - Driving Impressions
Aux Beam 360-Pro 9" Driving Lights for my Land Rover Discovery

Since I recently took the Hella driving lights off the Discovery to put on the lifted Porsche, I needed a replacement. These 9" LED lights I got from Aux Beam are insane, and I made a quick video showing how I installed them on the Disco. Use code TFR1 for 15% off the lights in this video: auxbeam.com/products/360-pro-series-custom-lens-offroad-led-driving-lights?PRO&J240219&TylerFrasca 00:00 -...

I've been trying to decide what to do with this car pretty much since I got it, and I finally figured it out. In this video, I install coilovers, tires, and lights to turn my 944 into a pretty solid base for a "safari" car.
Land Rover Discovery in the Snow
Просмотров 3,1 тыс.Год назад
I've made a couple videos of this trail for the channel, but never in the snow. This is just a short video of a trip up to the top in my Discovery. Hopefully the forecast is accurate and we get some real snow soon. If and when that happens, I'll go do my best to get stuck.

An unfortunate hack job of a cool little detail 👍 😊
Ahhh man, I felt that slip in the mud....
Also use skater shoes like vans or air walks when you’re metal roof Sheet rock really doesn’t burn so I suggest sheet rocking around your metal fab area
If you’re doing welding, you’re gonna wanna metal building as it doesn’t burn so easy
I’ve welded quite a bit in wooden garages and never had burnt any of them down.
You can put the blade in 180 and not have to dig a hole as far as the Sawall You can flip the blade the other way upside down is what I’m trying to say
You can put the blade in 180 and not have to dig a hole as far as the Sawall
I had a 03 disco and I remember my chainsaw. Fun time in the woods in the PNW woods
I run 255/85r16s on my Nissan Frontier. 33x10ish converted to imperial. They're way better in almost every situation, including snow. In snow, they'll dig down to the bottom and find grip where others can't, but that only works when the snow has a bottom I can reach. If it's more than 2 feet or so, I'll just dig and get buried where a wider tire can float on top a little better.
That’s exactly the size of my tires in this clip. Now I have 315/75. But I agree, if the snow is shallow and there’s a base to dig down to, the skinnies actually work great.
Great call on the high window!!
I wonder if it makes sense to add silicone or something to each screw?
It’d probably be good cheap insurance, but I’m telling myself that there are thousands of leak free exposed fastener roofs out there, so I’m going to let the little gaskets on the screws do their job for now. I did strip two screws putting on the last of the gable trim, and just left the stripped screw in and covered it with a dab of silicone.
Concrete guy is fired.
Yeah, I wasn’t happy when I realized it was that far out. I guess I should have measured the forms before they poured.
Man bro, what an amazing channel. Brilliantly done and the editing is tits bro. New sub here.
I always have a sheathing edge for my buildings. You gotta build your foundation perfect, but it's worth the water tightness. (Sitka has a great product that you can then seal the metal with the concrete and between the inch or two sheathing edge and the sealant, water ain't getting in there
Those knee braces will add a tremendous amount of stability. This looks great.
I recommend megasquirt, I love my MS3X.
Any reason you’d chose the MS over say, a MaxxECU Sport?
came here from your lifted 944 video, only to find I've already seen this full shop build. subbed
Can you please do a little video review of that amazing tree house. Would be a great stand in the forest for either hunting or wildlife video.
Chains.... smdh
All depends on subsurface and snow depth. If you are driving on a road and the snow’s not too deep then the narrow tire wins. It cuts through that the snow allowing tire to get to the road. Big wide tires will float over the snow and traction won’t be as assured and the vehicle tends to slide around.
that´s so cool.
Nice work! 🎉 I’m so jealous
I bet you're really good at putting self-tapping screws in now. One would say a professional truly😂 The sill gasket should not take on water. It is a closed cell product.
Yeah the sill gasket won’t absorb water, I was just commenting about water caught between the gasket and the frame. I’m sure it’s all dried out by now.
I know the project is done, but for the next one... a router makes easy work on the door and window openings. Flush cut bit with bearing. Nice work overall. This is on my to do list, once I have some land to work on.
Thanks. I’ve used a flush cut for that before, but couldn’t find one when it was time to do the doors and windows on this.
How much was you slab? If you don't mind.
11k
@tfrasca thanks friend amazing job
So glad the algorithm brought me to your channel. Loving all your content.
Came for the Volvo content, then got hooked when i saw how you shoot your vids and narrate. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! Man, I can't wait to get back to the old Volvo. I'm making it my goal to have it running at some point this year.
Can you explain the tapping into cigarette lighter fuse?
Yeah, the panel comes with a "fuse tap", which allows you to replace a fuse in the panel with one that has a piggy back mini fuse holder on the back of it. I just found this diagram that probably explains it better than I can in words. www.parkingcameras.com/store/images/D/Fuse-Tap-Piggyback-Fuseholder-Diagram-800x600.jpg
Very nice build
Slighty angle the lift?
I thought about that, but since the space is so much more limited in width I think I'd rather keep it straight to still allow another "bay" next to the lift.
@@tfrasca - Fair point. I had good luck with in in my space and it takes up the same space when no car is on it. You're likely on the very edge of 2-car-wide and then it's not a choice.
@OnlyARoadtripAway yeah at 24 feet wide, it’s a tight two car. And I don’t even think I’ll be putting a car next to the lift, but I want as much space as possible regardless. Everyone told me this would be the case, but now I can confirm that a shop is never big enough.
@@tfrasca - my biggest hack (and I am fortunate as hell with my space) are rolling heavy duty benches/tables. They tidy up so easily but create workspace where really needed. I find that my fixed bench ends up a shelf (unless I have to film and dump it somewhere else...). Do you have a drawn layout already? Oh and I would highly second the "define the dirty space" part, or everything will be filthy.
@@OnlyARoadtripAway If the space you're talking about is where you film your videos, then I'm highly envious. I do have a quick SketchUp layout I've been working with that has a small mezzanine next to the lift, but with open walls to not impeded access to the car on the lift. Then I'd have curtains I could close to turn the area under the mezz into a "dirty" room for grinding, etc. Plus of course storage on top. I like the idea, but I think I need to get a lift installed and start working in there before I can commit to anything.
9k kit?
After shipping and the stamped drawings, yeah.
I think it’ looks good with the windows up top. But the insulation spray or sheet are good options but not good for fire I would of put foil radiant barrier on the outside before the horizontal frame which also acts like a Vapor barrier then use rock wool insulation fire proof and moisture proof
I actually have a bunch of BlueTex radiant foam barrier that I had planned to put on before the siding, just like you said, but I ended up holding off on that so I could still access the inside of the wood siding to add nailers to the seams, etc. I still have the radiant foam stuff, and will likely use it in some way.
6:05….i can tell you how many times ive stepped on the edge of a screw box and laughed at myself as i picked them up😂😂
I want to add another barn like structure to mount some solar panels to align with the direction of the sun. I was excited to see how quickly the steel frame construction went up but as you progressed I concluded that timber frame will be best for me. I was pleased to see 'the light go on', literally, but think you may want to use opening windows for ventilation too. A cross breeze at soffit level will clear vehicle or welding fumes better than any exhaust fan. Great video. Thank you. It has helped me decide about timber vs steel, and timber has won out in my opinion.
Thanks, and glad it was helpful. Opening soffit level windows would be great, but it's just not in the cards right now. I have three small opening windows on the opposite wall now, plus the massive garage door. I'd like to add something on that rear wall too.
You should the Rothmans Dakar rally 911 next. What else is in store for this car?
Man, I wish I had Dakar 911 money haha. Unfortunately, I sold this car last year to a guy who's been racing some rally cross with it. So at least it's being used properly.
I wish I could build something like this. How do people afford these kinds of builds b/c that wood and material adds up big.
I'll be honest with you, I took out a loan to do this. I absolutely don't have $30k sitting around.
Can we get the pattern for the trailing arm mount?
I just looked through my file storage and apparently I never saved the pattern for this, sorry.
Most times getting a permit is not ussually to hard if you use common sized structures. Some counties have a stock approved garage plan ,a few adjustments and you build that and add onto it after permits are finalized. Marion County has a stock 25x25 garage plan.
I wish I had known to ask about that. I was talking to the city for almost a year before I broke ground and nobody ever mentioned any pre-approved plans.
Why have a title splash screen saying never use relays again but use a system that has 6 relays?
I guess I thought “mechanical relay” was implied. This thing uses solid state relays built into the unit.
@@tfrasca I was hoping for a state of the art invention or something. I have a similar aux beam setup.
Nice building. Whats the difference between diy and having it built? What was the total cost with sheathing?
Don't know total cost yet, but it's likely close to 30k before electrical and a bunch of little things. I had quotes for 12k (not including the 11k slab) to assemble an all steel building, but the quality wasn't great, and I don't want steel siding anyway.
I personally like the side windows.
Walker Valley. There and Tahuya are where I taught my three daughters how to drive in my 04Jeep LJ. Nice looking rig you got there.
It’s all about depth of snow. Tall and skinny until you start dragging frame and pushing snow. Then you need pillows for tires to float on top. It’s not really that hard to understand people.
Maybe for a future project you could put an awning out the side of the shed(facing the open yard) with just 4 tested timber posts concreted into the ground. Use a road based or cracker dust for flooring. Buffer out 2m and put a high chain mesh fence to prevent theft or burglary. You can park cars not being worked on but need to kept out of the rain parked out of your working space. By the time you put 1 car on the lift 1 under the lift 1 in front and 1 beside the 1 in front you have 4 cars storage and can't work on any of them if they aren't running are are outside and the weather turns bad. It can be a real pain and downer on your motivation when there is considerable effort involved in shuffling cars. I used to help a mate at his workshop constantly juggling cars or being blocked in and locked in AND unable to work due to lack of space to move when you are at capacity. If you live in a very safe low crime neighbourhood then obviously considerable cost savings in not doing the security mesh fence.....but it does provide peace of mind for longer term storage. A side awning can be made with 4 posts(possibly 8 if you want to keep load stress off the shed gal steel structure) and maybe only as tall to the height just under the eves for pitch and fall of just any water that falls on awning roof; essentially a free standing shelter butted up to the side of the shed to appear attached? This is a common thing in Australia with a lot of our shed packages actually offering the awning. The common thing we see it used for is to park caravan or boat out of radiating sun and rain that can deteriorate both interior and exterior of vehicles. Aussies choose to enclose these open car port awnings with timber lattice semi privacy screens to allow all round air flow dissipate heat (parking a hot car in the garage will convection and conduction heat your house especially if you drive something turbo charged in summer. The lattice isn't really a barrier to prevent intrusion but allows you to get a visual if there IS an intruder (most will have the automatic door override disabled just to prevent opportunistic thieves from scaling the lattice to manually pop the garage door open so they can push it down the street to hotwire it away from the house). Apologies for this unsolicited and possibly totally irrelevant discourse. I'm autistic AF and don't know what normal is? Anyway I just thought that for as little as 4-8 posts, couple bags of concrete cement per post, 3 cross beams and just enough trusses for a few lengths of roofing sheets; yourself got yourself a highly functional storage space that doesn't interfere with the workspace?
Yeah, a lean to off one side is a great idea. I've pitched it to my wife, but the current thought is that the shop takes up enough space in the yard as-is. VersaTube actually offers a lean to option when you buy the kit. I'm not concerned about security, as it's already behind a lockable gate in a fully-fenced backyard, but more covered storage is always welcome. As it is, I still don't have a spot to put the camp trailer, and the awning would be great for that. We'll see how it all shakes out, but maybe that can be part of the next phase of the shop, because I'm pretty sure it'll never be "done".
@tfrasca oh wow you responded and engaged in the subject. That's very rare for RUclips content creators. Always happy wife happy life......but it's always good to have pros that weigh in favour of positive outcome 'see baby we will have a place to store the camper'
Awesome Saab
If nothing else, give yourself a minimum of 24" clearance around all sides of the car and lift columns, not being able to move all the way around the car will get real old real fast.
Yeah, based measurements of the loft I like, it looks like I’ll be able to get about 24” between the post and the wall.
Just curious, no sill seal on the long wall plates?
Yeah, all the sill plates got the foam sill gasket.
could've just flipped the blade in the sawzall instead of digging a hole ! Nice video series on the VersaTube shop
....cool detail-you can always swap it out later.
Speaking of winter-what's the snow load rating?
To meet my local code, this building is rated to 25 psf roof snow load. 41 psf ground snow load.
@@tfrasca Many thanks-Jim
Why didn't you just use the metal roof from the manufacture ? save money on all that OSB boards and labor..
Because I wanted the OSB for condensation and for a more stable roof deck to walk on. Plus, it's cheaper to get the metal from a local supplier and not pay VersaTube's markup.
