Old Gun Review: 3 Screw Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 mag
I think you just sold me on a 10mm for Grizzly and bear country.
We love dogs no worries😊
Great channel
Very nice common sense video!
It’s a little irrelevant considering bears are much faster than that target, and nobody on the planet is maintaining their cool while an 800lb death machine is barreling towards them. My local fish and game department stated that the average brown bear can close a distance of 40 yards in 2.5 seconds from a standstill. And most encounters occur from much closer than 40 yards. You will likely have 1 second to face your target, clear your draw, draw, aim, and fire, before you’re underneath the bear. 10mm sounds like suicide in that situation. But that’s just my opinion
Well done
You can test in all ways, paper and gelatin, etc. There is only one way you will find out and that is an actual angry bear!!!!!
binge watching your bear videos and loving them!
MY Alaskan 'bear' gun was (spent ten years of summers up there fishing) also a 12 gauge pump Mossy, however spending all that time on a boat, meant stainless, but painted none the less. Since mine was/is a Military model, it has ghost ring sights and of all things a bayonet lug w the bayonet:) So not only was it a powerful "Bear GUN", it also served as a 'sharp stick" LOL. (Funny thing is not only am I NOT kidding (hat to use a Shottie to get thru Canada's inland waterway- no rifles/pistols allowed on US yachts in those days) GAWD Canada had some stupid gun laws...maybe they still do.
Best video of its sort imo
Cool vid thank you
🤣😂🤣😂 “man these groups are terrible”. Welp it just be like that sometimes
Nice. Definitely take the tang sight off. I just gets in the way. I'm thinking about getting the competition carbine or the short rifle in .357 for my daughter. The competition model is short stocked and slicked up. Learn to load your own. These rifles love truncated cone hard cast lead. Powder coating your bullets need no lube, and keep your bore from leading up.
Was that a completely new wooden setup though or did you use the same setup that had been damaged by the 10mm? That might skew the results.
I’ve backpacked and hunted in Idaho, Montana, Canada and Alaska. I always carried a 44 mag. I’m switching to a S&W 10mm just because it’s so much lighter and accurate. 44 mag has lots of power for sure, but it kicks like a mule and that has a negative effect on accuracy. Not good if your shot is off target and you’re face to face with a bear. With the 10mm you can get more shots on target with good enough penetration to kill any bear. You can carry two 15 round clips and still be a bit lighter than most 44 mags with ammo.
Seems foggy.. not sue this was done
Well done video. Very informative without a bunch of rhetoric. I just picked one up today.
Absolutely spot on dude. Wake up call . No more 10 mm hand gun. Taking my AR. Would those be a kill shot .
Thanks for the review, I was wondering between this and some other Turkish made budget designs, but I think I made my mind, the CZ it is.
Good job, I wonder does the full choke affect penetration? Example, full vs Improved penatration.
Did you by chance go to the Library when you were in Kodiak? I thought I saw you there and I was going to ask if it was you but wasn't completely sure.
I always felt the chest holster made my glock 19 feel a lot heavier. Your straps seem a lot heftier than the rig i had though. I just carry a 43x in my pants pocket and don't even feel it's there
I was wondering the same thing, you got right on point. Thanks for sharing!👍
Thankyou !
I think you learned to also carry a big knife.... just in case right?
I do have a Glock 20 and a Taurus 44 Mag Tracker DA revolver so I guess I could do this torture test... the thing is, I'd have to find a way to make snow.... and I live in San Antonio Texas ha haha. So I guess I'll just go with your results.
Thanks for the review. I just found a 44 Mag Blackhawk 3 screw flat top 6.5" - pre-super made in 1957. And I got it for what I regard to be a ridiculously low price - esp considering it was an auction on gunbroker! It's in VG-excellent condition. Bore is excellent. Had aftermarket grips but other than that, unmolested. I'm looking forward to shooting it.
I like both, but if I had to choose, it would be the 44 mag simply because revolver will give you six rounds without a jam!
When a Bear is running its head is moving up and down, so maybe make the ground with little up and down hills as it's pulled along towards you to simulate the head movement,
If you are right handed and only have a long gun for bear 🐻 defense and you are close to thick cover on the right side of you, where the bear is hidden, you most likely will not get a shot with the long gun before the bear is on top of you, and if the bear is on top of you and all you have is a long gun, you're out of luck, might want to get a big knife,
You could use 300gr 44mag +p+ for your first and last shots and regular power level rounds at 200gr hard cast, for the 4 shots in between, that way you get better shot placement for more rapid shooting,
Good Stuff
I've got the s&w 44mag. 4in barrel, n frame. With the kidex chest holster.
You need to clean the barrel
Impressive group with a 44
Thanks i never noticed the pin moved on mine and it does SURPRISE
Awesome presentation. Please do more.😊
What ammo is he using for besr defense i cant find hardcast or extreme penetrators anywhere for 50ae
I walked up on a cow and calf. Surprised both of us. I thought I was gonna get it but she chose not to charge. I was lucky
I'll just stay away from parks that bears inhabit.
Not tacticool is the real cool. Thanks for the great video!
Good video, but to answer you question "Now what does that tell you?" after watching you shoot both handguns ... Answer: No offense, but you need more practice!
Amazing information as always good sir
Nice rifle!
Great video. Thank you very much. I was looking at those to maybe buy. You helped me decide that a big shovel at 5’ would be much more effective on a snake.
Knowledgeable, easy to listen to. So humble. Causally mentions.... "I had to use this shotgun to defend myself from a charging Moose". Bro... that qualifies you for the most ACTUAL self defense use of a gun. By ANY youtuber ive watched in years. you rock!!!
Great videos. I've watched the first 2 (10mm and 44 vs bear). I think the 10mm wins because there is not a safety (switch). And the semi surely reloads quickly. Thank you. Awareness = TIME. Time to take action gives you more of a choice.
22 lfb better
after teaching much factory and reloaded ammunition in my lifetime i was having the same problem with Winchester 12 ga slugs with scopes and red dots. the problem i discovered by accident. when shooting Winchester slugs i different barrel lengths with the tube out the recoil was pushing slug back compacting wad and you could shake shell up and down and hear and fill the slug moving. greatly affecting accuracy. so when i shoot test or sighted in i load and shoot only one shell at a time increasing accuracy. Winchester the worst I've tested .Remington and federal the best I've tested. the Remington and federal will on occasion will become loose but not like Winchester. for at least the last 4_5 years Winchester has got sloppy in there manufacturing and not just shotgun shells. i would recommend leaving the plug in especially with magnum high brass slugs .reducing the harsh recoil pushing slug back . really a big bear inside 25 yards charging at you 1,2,possibly 3 shots before it's on the ground bleeding out or you just became lunch. papa wishing you well 😊
I carry a Walther PPQ .45 +P ACP 12+1 in bear country I think I’ll be alright 🤔 hope so .. shot placement is everything
