  • I shoot 5 round groups with 5 different choke tubes ranging from cylinder bore to full and compare the group size. This was shot with my CZ 1012 using Winchester 1oz Super X rifled slugs.

    I've noticed vertical stringing when shooting slugs from my Beretta A300. It shot an almost perfect vertical line above and below the point of aim, about 6" overall with 5 rounds. I/C choke.
    Nice video. Got my eye on a cz1012.

    Remember, when shooting slugs that thin barrel wall heats up much faster than a thicker rifle barrel. This can string shots vertically in rapid fire.

    after teaching much factory and reloaded ammunition in my lifetime i was having the same problem with Winchester 12 ga slugs with scopes and red dots. the problem i discovered by accident. when shooting Winchester slugs i different barrel lengths with the tube out the recoil was pushing slug back compacting wad and you could shake shell up and down and hear and fill the slug moving. greatly affecting accuracy. so when i shoot test or sighted in i load and shoot only one shell at a time increasing accuracy. Winchester the worst I've tested .Remington and federal the best I've tested. the Remington and federal will on occasion will become loose but not like Winchester. for at least the last 4_5 years Winchester has got sloppy in there manufacturing and not just shotgun shells. i would recommend leaving the plug in especially with magnum high brass slugs .reducing the harsh recoil pushing slug back . really a big bear inside 25 yards charging at you 1,2,possibly 3 shots before it's on the ground bleeding out or you just became lunch. papa wishing you well 😊

  • @46camper50
    @46camper50 2 года назад +3

    You need a shorter barrel. A cylinder choke or a rifled choke. Although I have seen shotguns and certain barrels , chokes defy science. I have seen a Remington 1100 with a 28 inch vent rib barrel & saddle mount with a Tasco 4 power scope modified choke. Shoot a inch and half group at 75 yards . Now with that said the tightest groups I have gotten with shotgun was with a Remington 870 SP slug gun . The barrel was a 20 inch choked slug barrel iron sights . I killed a nice Ohio 12 point with it .
    Then I I got a 11-87 SP slug gun fully rifled with cantilever barrel topped with Simmons pro diamond scope .
    Point is when it comes to slugs and shotguns you can spend $1000 and still not have a great shooting gun . Or you can just grab your average shotgun throw some slugs into it and have a excellent shooter . I have never been that lucky . I have had to spend a couple hundred just to have decent slug gun.🤬😁

    Thanks for the test. I’d have to agree, that shotgun does not like that specific slug load. The difference between brands can be extreme beyond belief. The availability not to mention the cost to find the best for your gun, may be money and time well spent.
    You do have a great slug shooting shotgun in you bear defense Mossberg. Just make sure you seal up those slugs it likes.
    Thanks again for the honesty and the video. Take care.

    Vertical spreading is generally a sign of unequal powder loading,, which is very common in 12 gauge shotgun shells. I've never heard of match grade shotgun ammo, but it would be great if they made it for slugs. I'd sure like to know where my slug is going.

      This is why i wish we were able to get slugs to reload. used to get good performance from "Reduced Recoil" slugs from Remington-we used those for MCSO until we went to Rifle only. Biggest spread was 6" at 100yds. sad that remington stopped making them.

    The first shots with the cylinder and imp cylinder weren't awful and would kill a deer at 50 no problem. I have a Beretta A300, put in the imp cylinder choke that thing is deadly at 50yds, rifle like accuracy, using Federal Tru-Ball.

    Nice job on the video and this slug-shooting review. In 12 GA I've found these Winchester Foster slugs to shoot very well for me in my old but reliable JC HIGGINS Model 20 which I had converted to accept a rifled choke tube. I consistently get 2" groups at 50 yards! I suspect it's because my barrel is fixed and not removable. You've got a couple of things going on here, one is as the barrel heats up your shot string rises in every round of five-shot groups regardless of the choke tube. Also since this is a semi-auto and the barrel is not fixed there is no consistency between shots.

    I love shooting slugs and buck. What I have noticed from standard lead foster slugs is that they cause extreme leading in the bores. I have to use a bronze brush on a drill to get it out. I would be curious to know what your bore looks like after 25 slugs. Thanks for the test!

      Diesel I am new to shot guns & the local indoor range requires slugs only. I shot 90 slugs thru my Tavor TS 12 & the gas cylinder had frozen from all the lead from those slugs. When I took off the cap at the end of the gas tube big chunks of lead fell out. Morale of the story is that slugs are dirty ammo & will lead up your shot gun. I was advised to use penetrating oil & let it soak into the gas cylinder. Also a Hoppe's Tornado bore brush in a power drill gets the lead out.
      25 slugs ? That would have been about the time to stop shooting & clean it looking back on it.

    • @dieselten01
      @dieselten01 Год назад +2

      @@ag4allgood that is similar to what I see. I use a rod on an electri drill. Sometimes wrap OOOO steel wool around the bore brush. People who say they don’t get leading from dlugs in their smoothbore don’t know how to look for it. After initial cleaning the leading is the same color as the clean shiny bore.

      They get messy.
      It took me forever to clean my beretta barrel .
      Need to soak the barrel with bore cleaner and let it sit, clean other parts , then at the end, come back to cleaning the barrel. Should be enough time to loosen up the dirt

    • @MegaAppleshit
      @MegaAppleshit 4 месяца назад

      That's pretty much what those cleaner shells are for. The ones that shoot a brush, some patches and some steel shot. They break out that deposited lead from slugs. XD

    Hi Allen, I have an unrelated question I'm wondering if you could answer. What scope rings are you using to mount the scope to your CZ 1012? I have one as well, and was informed by a customer service rep at CZ USA that there aren't currently any scope mounts on the market that fit directly to this receiver.

      They are 1 inch rings that clamp to the 3/8 inch claw mount slots on the receiver. This is a common scope mounting setup for rimfires. As you can see my results were not the greatest, if you do try I hope it works better for you.
