    Had exact same problem. Glued a thin piece of plastic to magazine that body of last round rides up on just enough to not hang up. Works perfect every time now.

      Glad you got yours working, I just had to clean up a lot of the flashing inside the mag in addition to the front beveling.

  • @dieselten01

    Try pushing up on the bottom of the mag to remove the play, then see if it feeds the last round. If it does, then add some tape to the bottom of the mag catch on the magazine and see if that works. If it does, then add a little jb weld or epoxy to the bottom of the mag catch in place of the tape and sand it to fit. Good luck!

    Thanks for the demo. I hope Ruger does not go down the rabbit hole like Winchester and Remington. As a Ruger fan this was a disappointment. Can't imagine what this means to you in dangerous game country. Here in NC even our bears can be reliable handled with a 30-30. 👍

    As always, a good honest review. It almost seems like it is an issue with the follower in the mag not rising high enough for the final round. If it was the feed ramp, I’d think you would have trouble on all the rounds in the mag. If the angle on the finale round is wrong it will catch on the ramp. Seems like the forward portion of the follower is hanging up on something.
    I’m sure you will get the issue resolved. Either thru Ruger or on your own by tinkering with it. I do suggest letting Ruger know about the issue though. I’m guessing you are not the first and they may have a very simple fix.
    Seems like a nice rifle otherwise.
    Thanks for the great video as always.

    I don't think you're making a big deal out of nothing. When you buy a gun from a reputable manufacturer it should work as designed and not require modification by the customer. On the bright side I've had excellent dealings with Ruger customer service, and I'll bet they handle the problem for you quickly. Good luck, and please keep us posted.

    Great HONEST review! I'm a Ruger fan but they missed the boat on that magazine design. My Ruger American 7mm-08 did the samething except inconsistently on the second round out of the magazine instead of the last. Seems to be a hit or miss on the magazine. Some magazines run fine some of them have problems. I'm happy with mine other than the magazine.

    I was planning a trip to Africa for a cape buffalo so I started practicing with my . 458 win mag. And that's when I discovered I was having feeding issues and after about a year and a half and several trips to the factory it still wasn't fixed. I bought a new rifle at twice the cost and it was having ejection issues which could never be repaired by the factory. I bought one more bolt gun that fed and ejected perfectly but it was not as accurate as the first two. I wound up buying a.500 nitro double and all my feeding and ejection problems went away and then Covid broke out and so I had to cancel my trip. However, you probably do need to practice a year or two with the rifle you chose to work out any kinks it may have before a big hunt. Informative video just goes to show what can happen under field conditions.

  • @regnitteoderf
    @regnitteoderf 2 года назад +2

    Mine had the same issue. In my case it was the mouth of the brass hanging up on the front of the magazine. The point of the bullet was well clear of any hangup or feedramp issue. I determined this was the issue by loading up the mag, don't put it in the gun, then one by one pushing the cartridges forward with my thumb. The last one would always hangup and I could not slide it out of the mag. I wrapped a dowel with sandpaper and beveled the front edge of the magazine at about 45 degrees until the hangup disappeared.

    Hi Allen, hey looking at my 6.5 Creedmoor American Predators mag.(.308 multi cal.) I believe it's a weak spring issue. As the mag empties the front of the cartridge dives deeper till the last round then mine will hang on the case mouth.
    The reason I don't have any issues is I'm using longer tipped bullets and they are already up the feed ramp by the time they get that far.

      I agree Don. I have the American predator 6.5 as well. I bought mine a few years ago and instantly realized issues with feeding and ejecting. I called ruger and they sent a new magazine. Unfortunately the magazine didn't help with feeding so I to beveled the magazines and it fixed the problem about 50%. I still have issues with it feeding. It really bugs me when I'm hunting and have to manually chamber rounds. I noticed with both magazines that there isn't enough spring pressure. A single round in both of my magazines will not top out like they should. They end up being recessed just enough to not catch. I've seen these aics conversion kits that people have done. I'm just not sure where to buy them.

    For earlier production Ruger American Predators, Ruger offers a magazine well conversion kit so 308 and 6.5 Creedmoor Predators can use the AICS box magazines instead. ... I purchased a 6.5 Creedmoor Predator on 11/23/2022. It came with the AICS mag-well conversion kit already installed direct from the factory with a 3-round AICS box magazine. For general purposes, hunting with a 3+1 magazine is adequate in Oklahoma. However, I will stash away several 10 round magazines while they're still under the gun-grabber's radar.

      @gunsgearoutdoorsalaska5875  Год назад

      Glad its working well for you. I was never a big fan of those mags, they do feed nice but seem really long for the capacity you get. A 10 round AICS is almost as long as a 20 round SR-25 or AR-10 mag. The flush fit is a little nicer for carrying around.

    I was looking at these. Ruger made a similar rifle in 7.62x39. That is appealing to me as I have other firearms in 7.62x39 plus I reload for it too. I would be frustrated with the last round hick-up as well. See if you can flip the mag spring around. It could have been installed backwards. I fixed a 222 rem magazine by flipping the mag spring around.

    New Discovery, huge difference in the Mag that came with my rifle for the 6.5 and the spare I bought (Ruger Marking 308 Multi caliber) .
    Original has a guide ramp for the brass built into it, the spare mag. has nothing its wide open.
    I can see how that alone could be an issue. In addition the followers are completely different the open style has that floating single follower plate (staggered round design) that's pretty weak on the last round.
    The original has a bar that rotates around in the mag (rotary design) and is fairly stiff on the last round.I'm of the opinion i'd have the same issue with a shorter non tipped round out of those replacement mags. Looking at the 2 mags i have for my 30-06 they both have the guide ramp in the plastic, i think the right mags with end up being the fix.

    One thing I do for any budget rifle take it apart and polish and lube all of the internals. That will solve 90% of any problems that may arise.

    great video, this is not supposed to happen with a brand as famous as Ruger, I will think twice about importing to Brazil now, I would like to acquire the predator Ruger, Now I'm having doubts, waiting 10 months to get my hands on the rifle and having to call customer service, that's not good

      Thanks! That would be a gamble for sure. I am not sure how common the problems are because the rifle has a pretty good reputation.

    No it should work every time no matter what!. You could try another magazine or just call it a 4 shot rifle,bummer it don’t work right not good for them.

    Download the mag by one and and see if it functions. If it does or doesn't the mag is the problem and i would advise contacting Ruger. Bet they will send you a new mag or mags. Any brand name rifle should work out of box regardless of if a $400 dollar gun or a $4000 dollar one.

    Some will say, "you get what you paid for it," but that isn't the truth; you can like $785.00, and still have a problem rifle or more money for a rifle. A $400 rifle isn't much money; gunsmith time.

    I think the best thing to do would be to get a new stock with a different magazine system

    • @gunsgearoutdoorsalaska5875

      That would fix the problem for sure but I am not ready to spend that kind of money yet, would cost almost as much as the rifle.

    Hello::: I got new Ruger American 6.5 CM. I can't get the first shot off. It will NOT FEED. After twisting an arm, Ruger sent me Aics Magwell. I had to order Ruger Aics Magazine. Well guess what, it still will NOT FEED. You know where I would like to stick this POS Gun. People are bending metal feed lips. I guess I need to grind on plastic feed lips. I believe that Sasquatch up on the ridge will learn by now he can get you on the last round. Happy Trails !!!

    Buy a German Rifle😉 Cheers😀🖖🏼 For example….. for Hunting i bought a Brenner BR 20. It doesn‘t need much money to get a verry good rifle even in Europe☺️

      I looked up the BR20, looks nice. I don't see a lot of German rifles up here, especially less expensive models, wish they would import more European stuff. I would like a Blaser but its not in the budget at the moment.
