- Sometimes and Easy Out is not so easy. Here is an example when you should not used an easy out to remove a broken bolt. This example by Tom Grafton at Jerry's Broken Drill and Tap Removal illustrates how a broken bolt can not be extracted using an Easy Out bolt extractor when the bolt breaks on the way out. It generally too seized and must utilize a more professional method.
I have never met anyone who has successfully removed a bolt with an easy out. Great channel. Greetings from 🇬🇧
Hi, you’ve officially met someone who’s got a bolt out with an easy out... and it was glued in with blue loctite... greetings from 🇺🇸
I’ve literally done it once out of 30 tries😂
I’ve done several just sucks when you break the easy out😂 why im here
That just happened to me under my trans. I got to laugh out my pain while watching this
I'm in the same situation. Broken extractor in a broken tans pan bolt. Nothing I've tried will even scratch it.
That was hilarious. You broke that tap just like every gearhead I have ever seen use one. I think you did that just to make a point. Good job, as it will happen 99.999 % of the time. Wish there were shops like yours in every town. Thumbs up, nice video.
ThePeopleVerse he clearly tried that
How true! This video should come with the instructions to every set of spanners, ezi-outs, set of drill bits and pistol drill.
A corroded broken off bolt, a home spanner jockey or an inexperienced mechanic/fitter etc and an EasyOut is the perfect recipe for a disaster.
EasyOuts are are as hard as glass and twice as brittle - breaking them off is inevitable in most cases.
thanks for sharing your expertise! though my conclusion here in my garage is that experts would tell me to give up. womp womp
I don't know just by watching this guy work I definitely know that he knew that wasn't gonna come out ....the way he jumped on top of it he didn't care he knew it wasn't going to come out he was just showing you how lame it was gonna be to even attempt it now he's gonna hit her with that bad ass machine he has that burns the bolt out and the easy out...out
Otherwise he would've heated it and lubricated it etc. etc.
The only thing an easy out is good for is if the head of a bolt is damaged, sheered off or if the head broke as a result of over tightening. If it gaulded or rusted in, like the man said, don't make it worse.
I have this same problem rn on a 93 5.0 head bolt.
Great video, JerrysBrokenTap. Have you ever seen the A-SURE OUT extractor? It can be removed in seconds if it breaks, no Welding EDM or DRILLING. After seeing it, only a fool would use anything else! All materials and labor made in the USA! For over 100 years the bolt extractor has changed in many ways, however the failure of a bolt extractor seems to have been carelessly overlooked leaving all users the possibility of catastrophic failure. Help support an American company. Thank you.
What type of drill bit did you use - cobalt? Carbine?....
Hi Jerry, you really have some great videos here. Hope to see more. I was wondering what you thought of the Ridgid 35585 No. 10 Screw Extractor Set or if you had any success with this kind of spine type extractors? You are a true professional,
Don't waste your time or money on it.
I've been there done that.if the head broke off the bolt because it was s cheap bolt then fine but if the bolt broke due to it's corroded in there or warping you will just make things worse as stated here.
What ever happened to you guys? No vids in forever? Ya still alive & well?
I hope he retired - he needs to use that hard work for some good R&R
Camera man needs to learn to hold the camera steady... can't stand the camera wondering around and never really focusing on the target subject.
Now then, as for your use of the Easy-Out... While you were attempting to turn the easy-out, you were obviously leaning down hard to one side on the handle (with your right arm). This is what caused the failure of the bit. I could see that coming from a mile away.
This was interesting until it totally failed, enjoy the gentleman giving the demonstration though.
He is showing you how to fix it when it breaks goof
Great help to me 👍
Of course you don’t mention adding oil or heat . You wanted it to break so you get clients 😂
Never hammer a ez out.....
Why post an unsuccessful video and discourage people from DIY? You just wasted my time and yours....
This video was more of a waste of time then snapping my ez out trying to get my bolt out.
For the do it yourselfers yes but I'm a 14 year mastered tech an have build alot of skills an have yet to back myself in a hole
You should have lubricated the hole with WD-40 or an equivalent for a few hours, and then tried the easy out gently without risk of snapping. If that didn't work, then relubricate and repeat, even leaving the lubricant in over night.
