Seeing you photo your kids remind me of the days I was starting my photography business. Getting up, down, running back/forth, resetting toddlers all the while trying to focus and get a kid looking in your direction…….. I applaud those who do children’s photography. Me? I think I am scared for life! Lol
Love these pointers. Great to see how a variety in distance will change a background. Your images are so dynamic-thanks for sharing how you create them!
Excellent Video and very valuable tips. Greetings from Calgary where it has been snowing for several days now -14•C as we speak. Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family.
Great video, i like to see how a pro photographer do the family photos without studio lights and stuff. It would be nice to see how you do the travel photos with family.
Sure but the sensor size isn’t the biggest factor... esp when I can set my ISO, aperture and shutter freely. I’d much rather that control than a larger sensor
@@VanessaJoy Oh good to know! I have the 28-70 and was wondering about a small family of 3 with the tree. I see you used natural lighting as well. What do you recommend if using softbox in terms of lighting setup for these family tree photos or do you prefer natural lighting only? I'm visiting a friend who wants me to do fam photos in front of their tree (couple and their baby).
Love this! Just the advice I was looking for. (Any pointers as to how to capture kids' and lights reflection next to a dark window??). I'll be practicing this soon, so it was great to see how it's actually carried out. Really enjoy your videos!!
Just make sure that you’re not flashing directly into the window, if possible put them at an angle to the window so as the light hits the dark window it reflects off in the other direction ☺️
Hi. I have just tried to take some Christmas photos of my two daughters but they are terrible! When watching your video I see my error. I need to get a new pair of daughters that actually sit STILL! I have been threatening them with everything from no candy for a year to we are all going to hell if you do not sit still but they just dont care.... Any tips?
Equipment has nothing to do with ideas, angles, and creativity. You could get the same pictures with any samyang lens. Maybe the auto focus will be faster, but the image will look very similar

Kids always steal the show. They are super cute, great video Vanessa!
Robert Nowell haha they do :) thanks so much!
Lots of useful tips, thanks. Love the matching outfits all round. Felicity is a natural model. She's lovely. Glad the foot is recovering.

My pleasure! I definitely Have the same things going through my mind when I shoot weddings too haha

Daniel Hernandez Omgosh. I would not like that!! Flip flop weather only please :)

This was very helpful!

Allan Marshall Aw thanks!! Haha it’s fake. I know. I’m the worst.

My pleasure:)
Great video! I really enjoyed watching it. You are a great photographer and educator!
Thanks Peter! Means a lot to me 😊
I love this!!! Makes me wish my kid was still little. These are great ideas!!! I may try something with the dog, lol. Thank you!!!!
Patty Mattes haha trust me, the epic meltdown Felicity is having right this second over an itch will have you thinking otherwise
@@VanessaJoy I remember those days, lol. I can laugh about them now. One day you will too.
So so true.
Great video Vanessa! Thank you!))
Thanks for watching!
“Knees together… always… for the rest of your life” 😂😂😂 pretty sure I’ve told my daughter that too. Died laughing
😂
@@VanessaJoy also thanks for the tips gotta take my kids pics tomorrow. Wish I had that 85mm🤤. The sigma 24-70 gonna have to do lol.
Great tips, thank you 👍. I need to get away from zoom lenses 🤦♂️. Do you know a good prime lens for the Sony A7rIII?
I’m honestly not familiar with Sony’s, however I’m a huge fan of a 50mm in general - Check out my vid on that!
I love it! Nice greetings from Austria.
Günther Gaßler thanks so much! I’ve always wanted to go there :)
Awesome! I love that you had the whole family in this! Is that the 85mm ds or the 85? And what do you think of it??
Keith White Photography the regular 85 :) I haven’t had a chance to try the DS yet but it looks cool!!
Loved this video! Literally about to shoot (photograph) my kids and using these tips. Thank you 😊
Perfect timing!

The canon g7xiii is a fav of mine for quick, but controllable, and light gear
Vanessa Joy interesting, i thought you didn’t take the giant 5D with you, but isn’t a one inch sensor a marginal difference compared to an iPhone?
Sure but the sensor size isn’t the biggest factor... esp when I can set my ISO, aperture and shutter freely. I’d much rather that control than a larger sensor
Very useful video , I learned lot from it, looking forward more videos like this keep it up good work, thanks a lot sir R.manohar , india, chennai
It's my pleasure
and barefoot... i love it. Happy holidays!
Haha yes - always if I can help it
Imo 85mm is one of the hardest lenses working with children. The 35mm proximity to the subject is perfect for child photography
Depends on the kid haha - I actually find the 28-70 easiest but that would’ve doubled the cost of gear here 😂

Super cute kids too!
Haha thanks!! Hope this was helpful for you :)
i have another idea for you i just shot a Christmas card maybe you would want to shot one also ? p.s. we do Christmas up here not holidays
Ironically I never send out Christmas cards 🤦🏻♀️
@@VanessaJoy that is funny the card that i created will go out to 280 people
nice video. i could do without the loud music overlay
Good input. Thanks!
It also helps to have more than 3000 dollars in equipment

@@jkinze Yes, I know. I only said it as a joke…
if you have all the props even an iphone would be very useful
Preach Claimore 👏👏👏
