Yes, it is Beaver Lake. I was told by a Game Warden that this was an Asian Carp that infiltrated the strip mines during the flood of 93'. Either way, it's an invasive species and needs to be irraticated from the lakes.
I'm pretty sure that is what I call a grass carp. They are filter feeder and are not caught on bait.. They are snagged or shot with a bow and arrow... I couldn't see the mouth. They grow to be a very large fish and they put them in lakes to keep the moss in check. I'm thinking that is what you guys caught.. I would have just reach down and grabbed that fish just ahead of the tail and you could have used that net over the head ... You had the fish wore out... I bet that was fun reeling him in foul hooked and all!! ;-)
It was fun for my buddy to reel him/her in, Bill. It was as slimy as could be. I didn't want to get all that slime in the boat. We figured it out to be an Asian carp from the flood of 93. It was at least 40 lbs. The Kaskaskia river runs along side those strip mine lakes we were fishing and they flooded real back in 1993.
Asian carp. We snag them down below Kentucky dam all the time . A lot of people do t know it but they are some of the best tasting fish in the water but they are full of bones
Yes, it was an Asian Carp. Likely got in the pits in 93 when it flooded. The fishing can very good here at times. The Bass are seasoned and have seen every bait known to man, but there is still a lot of big fish to be caught here. I've fished it since I was about 13 years old (before it was public) and it has been a great place to fish. They are all beautiful lakes. Stealth is the key to success here.
@@kg9pz thank you for the tips . We caught a few today there off shore. Caught them on crappie rigs Bobby garland minnows and crappie magnets. Caught a few bass on a yum dinner it was tricku
Given the location and appearance, it's an Asian carp of some sort (for sure). Either silver or bighead. If they aren't known to be in these waters, contact the DNR.
@@habeebtc yes I know but someone put them in there. I fished those lakes as a kid one I fished tho was on the other side inside town it was the largest one there and the deepest. We called it cemetery lake not because it was by cemetery but because people drowned and they never found the bodies. The water is so clear you can see the fish. We never seen an Asian carp in them. The fish are all huge in those lakes
Yes, it has been identified as an Asian Carp. These lakes are very close to the Kaskaskia River here in southern IL. These carp got into these lakes from when the river flooded back in 1993, and recently, as well. Thanks for your comment & view.
hell yeah back in the 80s we'd catch big ol fish like that and me and the boys would take em back to shore smoke a little grass and use em for that special kind of loving
Nice share!! It is so good to hear from you Scott.
Thanks, Gil. I've become somewhat of a recluse, I'm afraid. Thank you for watching & saying hello, my friend.
I fish both beaver and eagle lake a lot these days. The crappie seem very scarce but seems to be a lot of catfish.
Glad you caught it on video. Becouse no one would believed that fish story. 🐳
Thats a silver carp. I've snagged many on the river but have ever seen one at the strip mines. That lake looks kinda like Beaver Lake?

Yes they are full of bones, but if you take the time to get them out and beer batter them they taste AMAZING! Would recommend it.

We figured out that it was an Asian Silver Carp. It apparently got in the lake when the Kaskaskia river flooded a long time ago.
kg9pz too bad you didn’t remove it from the water. It’s gotta be an invasive species.
Big head carp I think
