@@Mark_Th3_Gr3at You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. Southern Illinois is very hilly, full of rivers and lakes and woods. You must not understand things.
I fish that spillway very often...summer time is plagued with gar... I like your land fishing vids because i dont have a boat and it gives me ideas...good video
I love gar fishing and I really love the heat of the summer you know you can have a good day fishing when you target gar And a plus is they are DELICIOUS
The channel catfish had moved really shallow over the past couple of weeks following the shad and Crappie spawn. If you fish around the flooded brushes with cut bait, you should do really well. Good luck tonight. I think I'm going to head up there for a while later if I have time.
You were at the part of the damn that I call the locket my brother and nephew fishes there a lot caught a lot of nice keeper crappie there new to your channel glad to see someone fishing my home town lake
That day wasn't too bad. I went back this past Monday and caught a lot more fish. I think I also fractured my tailbone after taking a bad fall on the rocks. Only camera that caught the fall was my chest camera. Definitely going to have to cut that part out because of language lol. But, I kept fishing after the fall because the bite was good.

You gotta fish by the boat dock at Baldwin Lake one day you will love those big blue catfish.. I know you don't like that lake anymore but I promise you once you learn how to catch the big blue catfish you would love it one of my favorite lakes in Southern Illinois
@@TheWeekendAngler fall-winter spring are the best times to fish using cut bait shad and bluegills. If you look up my name on Facebook I have a few videos why did pretty good at Baldwin Lake.. I never fish during the summer time because the water is too hot
Man I couldn’t tell you the last time I fished a rattle trap with both hooks on it. I usually cut the front hook off as soon as I get it out of the pack. I’d have lost that thing for sure! Good variety of fish in them spillways
the spillway is 10 minutes from my house ...!!!
Very good video ... From beginning to end. Thanks !
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it.
Southern Illinois is truly Gods country.
I agree 100 percent
You should get around more. Rend lake is nice and all but Southern Illinois is so damn flat and ugly with nothing around but corn.

@@justreallybored6014 lol I must not because illinois is definitely one of the ugliest states in the U.S.

I've actually been looking for a good place to specifically target some gar. Looks like this may be the place come summertime.
@@TheWeekendAngler If you go to the main spillway the gar are everywhere they are hard to hook but they don't stop biting.
@@TheWeekendAngler I don't know if you ever get that far north but I take a lot, a lot of gar out of the Shelbyville spillway on minnows

Finally, thank you much for making a video at Rend Lake Dam!
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I go fishing there very often.
My son and I are at Rend right now. Going to do some evening crappie fishing and night drifting for catfish

Man that's awesome, idk why but I love those paddlefish. Ive never caught/snagged one but I just think they are so cool.
Redneck Swordfish lol
@@TheWeekendAngler haha right!
@@TheWeekendAngler There's been a lot of people catching them at the Spillway at Carlyle this year. Some of them have been pretty good sized too.
Fishin is fishin, no matter from the bank or from a boat. Content is always good be it on land-@ sea or in the shop. Good stuff sir.
Thanks!
Great video friend
Thank you!
I had no idea we even had paddlefish in Rend Lake, the more ya know.
Nice variety of fish. Great video.
Thanks!
Last time I was at the Rend Lake spillway, I caught a 27.3 pound big head carp.
Looks like you had a good time

The wind sure can ruin a good fishing day.
That's the truth
Those carp make good catfish bait
I've heard that. I caught a couple more earlier this week. Next time I'm bringing a cooler or a bucket. Lol.

When is a good time to fish that lake? It consistently kicks my butt, but I'd love to get a handle on it. Thanks.

It's about a quarter mile west of the main rend lake spillway. Easily found on Google maps
