Been catching whites up there right where you started should be picking up soon. Red with green tail crappie jig has been hitting mostly with a few on green or white curly tail grub.

When spillway is running fast, drifting bait works really well for big cats. And from what I keep hearing, asian carp are good eating if you clean them fast and get them on ice.
Maybe just a carp, Nick, but what an epic battle! That's what fishin' is all about, y'all!

I go to Carlyle all the time. When I’m going for catfish I catch a carp and use the guts and put it on the hook it works fast!!!

This spillway is my home lake/spillway grew up fishing it and still do to this day. always a fun time out there. it always a surprise on what kind of fish you catch there. overall an awsome lake!
This one time I was wading and thought I hooked a monster. As I was fighting it, it surfaced about 15 feet away. His tail smacked the water, that’s when I realized it was a huge beaver. I carefully got it as close as I could and cut the line. I saw him swim over to the shore. I think he was okay, poor guy.
Simple Man had one get really pissed at me last trip out. Hooked into a solid 4lber, it must have ran into the beaver because I damn near had my rod rip out of my hands. As my fish surfaced the beaver surfaced too and gave a big angry tail slap on the surface. That was good of you to try to limit the amount of line you left on the beaver.
Man those beavers are no joke.. I’d rather hook an Asian carp than one of those any day

I hooked a seagull in mid flight while mackerel fishing, just cast as usual and saw the lure and gull collide. Luckily it just got hooked into the wing feathers. It dropped straight into the sea and I managed to reel it in and release it ! Mad thing was its distress calls summoned a bloody horde of others, it was like a scene from the birds.
Simple Man beavers are very invasive and destructive to most habitats, even if the beaver didn’t survive, it’s okay

When cooked right the asian carp is absolutely delicious but I am sure it would work as bait too. Catfish really will eat anything.

I was thinking a snagged carp. That happens a lot in spillways. I noticed that no one else was at the spillway, so I knew no bit was on.
I can only imagine what that looked like from behind....lol

This spillway reminds me of a very popular one out here in Manitoba. Loads of pelicans, loads of big carp, drum and of course monsters cats! Average size here is 35”

I had a ten pound bass on I was just about to grab it when it snapped my line and my best lure and my dad hooked into a 10 pound carp

Yeah l had a dudes Boxer get in my line yesterday. Fish were not biting. Dogs were up in my business. Finally left and hit a pond. Biggest Bass of the season. That said, the fish stomp was epic. Keep on, keeping on brother.

Fished that spillway many times over the summer and caught tons of asain carp and some catfish. The carp hit large white rooster tails in the summer very well.

We were the ones who caught the catfish, just based on the title.

What reel do you use on your catfish rod? I like the Shimano Calcutta 700's but I like the look of your reel.
Are they still open thought they would have shut down at the spillway I heard the main lake was closed . Your second spot is the best spot I fish right of the barrels . Wow that waters high I walked through it last summer lol my first spillway video here is doing well just hit 1600 views
