    Those notches on the trigger are basically for how hard you want to fish to “pull” before setting it off. The farther down, it’ll be easier to trip, probably the reason you had some go off with no fish

    • @timndel
      @timndel 4 года назад +6

      Exactly. If you find yourself missing some fish, put the line higher up on the trigger, allowing for a less sensitive strike trigger.

    The next logical step would be a device that gets up at 5am, drives 50 miles and catches fish while you stay in bed! For me, most of the pleasure is feeling that first bite and the rush you get trying to set the hook. I, personally, don't want a gadget to take that away.

      @@deathtoliberals7843 bow fin and arapaima are both native to there
      countries (arapaima,South America) bowfin (North America) bowfin are native fish and not a trash fish they are big predators that keep shiners,Shad,bluegill,creek chub , etc in check. They have a good impact on the environment, and if you took bowfin out of a lot of places it would suddenly change the environment and the food chain like, flathead eats bowfin,bowfin eats bluegill, bluegill eats minnow etc, they are Not a trash fish!

    • @Leo-zd7nv
      @Leo-zd7nv 4 года назад

      I don’t understand. The Flathead is a type of catfish, isn’t it? The catfish I have caught were all bottom feeders. I assumed that the first flathead that was caught here, was a bottom feeder because the line was rigged with the worm at the end, with a weight ahead of it, putting the bait on or slightly off the bottom. You said that the size of the first bullhead would make good bait for the flathead. So are the flathead not actually bottom feeders?

    • @MichaelSmith-ck2ro
      @MichaelSmith-ck2ro 4 года назад +1

      @@Leo-zd7nv since no one has answered your question, although catfish are mostly caught on the bottom their not exactly bottom feeders they're all actually predatory fish and prefer the bait fish in their area. But they're not picky and will take an easy meal when it's they get the chance. I say mostly caught on the bottom but can be caught under a bobber and thats my preferred method for Flatheads in slack water. And yes the bullhead is a type of catfish. Catfish are cannibals also and will eat other catfish even of the same species.

    Flatheads are such great fish. I worked for a state game and fish agency one summer. We trapped giant flatheads in big reservoirs and then put them in some of the smaller state lakes, for folks to catch. They can be so impressive! Hope you catch an even bigger one sometime!

    It's nice to see another person who appreciates catching bowfin. I love all fishing, from little 5" bluegill/pumpkinseeds/etc up to the biggest halibut I've caught. But we have a great spot at a local creek that is loaded with bowfin and they put up the best fight, pound for pound, of any species I've caught in the US. I go through a LOT of hooks catching them because they are notorious for straightening hooks and shredding lures.

    I am wondering about how to handle some of the catfish? I have heard a lot of different things like "don't touch the whiskers etc" so does each kind of catfish need to be handled differently?

    • @Apache-Adventures
      @Apache-Adventures 4 года назад +2

      The whiskers wont do anything, they use them to help find food on the bottom, its the side and top fins that you need to watch out for, they are hard as steel and are VERY sharp, like a needle sharp..if they stab you it releases a fluid that causes swelling and alot of pain, the baby catfish are the ones to really watch out for cause they jump around alot, and bigger catfish can be held by the lip for easy grip

    • @texoutlaw1732
      @texoutlaw1732 4 года назад

      APACHE- ADVENTURES they really don’t release a fluid, it’s just the slime that can cause an infection if not treated properly.

    Besides stating the obvious that spring loaded devices are illegal in many states and provinces it is very cool to see it set off. I use jawjackers for ice fishing, legal since the rod provides the hook set. It is so cool to see the trap work, trigger goes off and then the rod bends back down to the hole... so awesome!
