I stopped fishing about 8 years ago due to hardly any time with work and having a child but found this channel and been binge watching you the last week or 2 and got me back into fishing, getting a new set up shortly and getting back out fishing cos of you so thanks man
That's awesome bro
Richard
Better times ahead, my daughter started landing large mouth at age 5, she. Out fishes me most of the time( she be driving soon)
Best fishing buddy EVER.
Bet you will feel the same!!
Been a good 10 years for me. I moved and don't really live that close to any decent locations anymore. When I was a kid we had a lake within a 10 minute walk from my house. That place was like my back yard.
@@craigdaubbeats-rapinstrume9185 I live in England it's totally different the places to fish here compared to America, got quite a few local rivers between a 15 minutes walk and half an hour drive, there's a big reservoir about 20 mins drive and quite a few lakes within an hour drive aswell, I live in a little town on the edge of the open countryside so handy for fishing
@@richardkennedy7941 That's awesome! I've never been outside of america except for Canada. We used to go up there fishing for vacation when I was a kid in lake Ontario. There's some massive bass, pike and lake trout in there. Unfortunately my dad was an abusive alcoholic and would ruin our vacation every year so eventually my grandpa decided to stop going up there. Soon after that we just stopped fishing, life got the best of me for awhile, did some time in jail due to being a drug addict. Once I got out I moved out of town and never looked back. Been clean ever since, now since 2010. I would like to start fishing again eventually but I have some life goals I want to achieve first. Got clean and got mental health in order, now onto my financial goals. Soon I'd like to leave my home state of pennsylvania. I'd like to move to Delaware. Lots of great fishing down there, both fresh and saltwater.
Anyway, thanks for the chat!
A man who is friends with every fish.
"See you later, buddy"
My favorite part of every video!
Thanks for all you do, buddy! Keep them coming and #fishon!!
Maybe fish with chicken lungs tough bait land some catfish bowfin arent prize fish
Not every fish, some he uses for live bait
unless you are a bluegill
Except the fish he uses to live bait
Guys, his use of catch for bait is fine. Fish eat fish, right? That's a lot of most fish diet. The important thing is the integrity of the ecosystem and not depleting its energy balance by removing too much biomass by over harvesting.
Your videos have actually helped me with how to fish for larger fish such as catfish or bowfin. Not only have I been hooking and landing more fish, but I also caught my first ever bowfin!
Congrats man that’s awesome!
Thank you for being a role model for the fishing community. It’s refreshing seeing someone respect the land the way you do, and as all should.
You made me feel for the bowfin, real fishermen care for the land and the wildlife.
With all due respect what's the difference in cutting heads off grindle and cutting heads off sunfish just to use for bait? I don't care either way quite frankly I care more about the grindle being discarded I use cut bait myself just saying it could be a bit hypocritical.
@@bignck they werent using them from bait from what I could see. A lot of folks down here kill them because they dont like them scratching up their baits. It's a native species that belongs in our waters.
@@possumwalkeroutside9054 You're right it does belong in the water! My point was At the end of the day they both were killed for nothing. That's crazy people just kill them because they scratch up baits smh.. I mean how dare they go and bite something that mimics food smh

Thanks Nick. I love your videos. As a shore angler, you are so lucky to be allowed to use multiple rods at one time. Here, we can only have one line in the water at a time. :(
In TX you can have 50, with 100 hooks

This makes me want to go to my local spill way and start fishing again great vid!
Just reminds me of when you found a bunch of line in episode one of the tiny lure challenge. These people give all fisherman a bad name.
I used to fish almost exclusively for catfish - everyone else was after bass, but I wanted the biggest fish in the lake - but after I caught a 3' and then a 4' channel cat, I switched to trout. After I caught two huge steelheads, male and female, I switched to bass.
Haven't had much time to fish this year, and haven't caught a single bass, but I have gotten a lot of really nice bluegill (always my favorite fallback). Anyways, your videos make me wanna catch a nice catfish again!
You should try bottom fishing with live crawdads, they will catch anything from flathead to freshwater drums
I've caught some huge gaspergoo on crawfish
Big alligator gar will hit them to
Small crayfish catch big trout as well
And that is how my dad found out that Zebco 33 rods float
I've done that before, I'm not sure exactly what it was but i was using 30 pound line and i put up a 10 minute fight until the line snapped. I was so mad. Whatever it was it was *BIG* wish i could have caught it. It jumped out of the water once, i think it was either a catfish or a Sturgeon. I was fishing up in Michigan on Mullet Lake which is connected to lake Huron.
You make it look so fun. Thanks for sharing this from a senior woman. Your a true gentleman to the fish and environment. 🐟🐠🐡🦈🐬🐋🐳
Mad respect for taking care of those bowfin, one of the reasons why this one of my favorite channels out there.
I love the excitement you bring every time you catch a big one, I never get tired of it. Thank you.
It looks like you had a heck of a day catching bowfin young man. They were all nice fish. Great video and thanks for sharing.
Definitely turned out to be a good day of fishing. Thanks for watching!
Every time I watched you struggle to walk the fish down to the bank, balancing and stepping through all the clutter.. all I kept thinking was “Man, the other side with the manicured lawn looks much easier to fish”. Enjoy the videos, keep em coming!
"I'll be honest guys, I was out here a couple days ago and I didn't catch anything but Snakeheads..." *plot twist*
I swear, Scooby Doo with a fishing pole couldn't find more adventures with mystery backstories than this guy. It's either a new PB or a murder mystery involving a perch in well trafficked creek.

😂😂😂so true. “This is one of the biggest ones I’ve ever caught.. see ya later buddy”
Been following you for about a month now. The kayak episode was my favorite but I really enjoy how you base most of your fishing right off the bank. Gives alot of us smaller guys the will and hope to keep fishing. Thanks man
Never seen someone catch as many bowfin as you, I feel bamboozled 😂😂 but I will keep watching for that one video when you finally catch that flathead
I was thinking" he should fish for bowfin. He would probably catch some catfish."
Haha I know! A couple years ago that was the species I always wanted to catch and now I find them almost everywhere! I’m not complaining tho!
Yes! Me too. I LOVE this dude’s video production. Beautiful shots. Great effects. Great editing. High production value.
But it drives me nuts that he only catches mud-fish.
Don’t get me wrong, they are fun to reel in, but they are easy trash fish.
Also... bowfin may very be native, however, just because a species is “native” doesn’t mean that it isn’t harmful to the ecosystem of that waterway. Mud fish eat anything and everything. They take over. (Why do you think he isn’t catching the cats we all want to see?)
In fact at many State Parks, Rangers have direction to dispatch any mudfish they catch so that other species have a chance to thrive.
Keep up the good work on the videos, avoid the mudfish, catch some cats.
@@basslikethefish613 yes I caught one and nearly killed it and a guy got pissed at me
I asked him why nobody catches pike or Walleye in that area, simple because Bowfin eat everything else and once they get big enough nothing eats them because of some taste they let out, they spread like a sumbitch and destroy everything in their path, but they're fun to catch
@@braedengoemer1099 are bow fin good to eat?
love your attitude and how you’re always positive. literally makes me smile just seeing you have so much fun fishing man. keep it up

I love how you respect every single fish you catch even if you use it for bait, great channel. Keep having fun and putting put awesome content
I know a guy who says he used to take long nose gar and shove their beaks into the sand and leave them. So stoopid man. They are a native predator fish and very cool looking.
How sick and cruel you would have to be to do that
They are evasive your supposed to do it
Why I can’t stand bow fishing.... no catch and release there, just killing
I’ve also heard some people that fish with hookless hair jigs for gar, since they can’t get the beak untangled they just break that beak off, It’s harsh to such an amazing fish
I was fishing in the wabash River and a guy came up to me cause he saw I cause a gar and he stomped its head out without even saying a word to me!!! I agree man the only fish I’ve ever thrown on the bank was Asian carp and it was when I was bowfishing
Just got into fishing because of this whole Covid Pandemic, founded to be something calming to do and man your videos are great . Your whole setup is nice. Glad I ran into your Channel brother
We should start giving names to your locations.
I move to call this spillway "Bowfinland". Can I get a second on that motion?
Seems fitting!
I was thinking Bowfin Channel.
I second that motion
Same here I second
Almost 300k views in just 2 days. Love the way your channel is growing, man. You deserve this.
I am pretty certain that if I fished there, all I would catch is snags.
Interesting how you rarely, if ever, run into any crowds when you go fishing. I enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.
you should call fish and game! they are great and finding out who’s doing that crap
Hate to say it but there is probably too much work for those fellas. Way under staffed in IL and wayyy under paid
Awesome video! Your Bowfin fishery is insane! I’m lucky if I catch one or two a year. It really makes me sad seeing them killed and left on the bank. People need to educate themselves on identifying the difference between a native Bowfin and an invasive Snakehead. If they’re unsure just let the fish go. It was already there. That’s the way I see it. Unless, on other hand, they just despise Bowfin for the fact of them being a “roughfish”. Those claim they “hurt the environment” or “are bad for other fish”. When in reality it’s the complete opposite.

Snake heads are our friends too
Damn these were some beautiful bowfin... saw something similar recently at one of my favorite lakes, lotta big beautiful bream with their heads cut off... pisses me off. Anyway, awesome video as always!
Maybe they were going to use the brem as live date but just had to leave.. lol I catch shad in throw nets and use them for bait. Yeah it is stupid to just kill shit for no reason but I think it's slightly hypocritical when somebody says some stuff like that and then catches a fish and cuts its head off for recreation that recreation being catching another fish with it for catch and release
Bream maybe got confused with common carp..? Carp have infested my local waters and most of mine ended up as crawdad food, but I don't leave them around like that.
@@devincook2736 Nope here in Germany we don't have that carp problem. Some that are fishing for carp and a big bream takes the bait are pretty annoyed of them. Not the first time i saw that, sadly.
@@bignck yeah it's sad what they do. They definitely didn't want em for life bait tho, using life bait is illegal here in Germany, plus these bream were way too big.
@@devincook2736 and what's the problem with carp? it's not like they eat other fishes

Back in the day, my fishing buddys wifes name was Annette... laughter ensues
From my experience, if you want to catch giant flatheads they hang out closer to the bank. Try casting the bullheads and sunfish closer to the bank. Maybe use a bid bobber.
You should do bowfin catch and cook cut top like gonna fillet but then scool meat with spoon and when cook mix meat 2 parts mashed potatoes 1 part bowfin meat and cajun fish fry
It seems like in all the videos at this spillway; bowfin are the primary species being harvested. That or else he's the bowfin whisperer......

nice vidéo again Nick , if you remember , i ask you what is the difference betweew bowfin and snakehead , those men probably don't know ! peace from Fance ^^
Snakeheads are an invasive species in the United States, originally from India I think. They have much longer heads than bowfin and have a dark brown, sort of stripped body. Here in Arkansas where I’m located, it’s illegal to keep one alive or dead. If you catch one you have to kill it immediately and call Arkansas Game and Fish Commission about where you caught it.

My Dad taught me, you never kill anything your not going to eat. Words to live by. My Dad had a deep respect for all creatures, he fished and he hunted, he never trapped animals, he said that it was very cruel way for an animal to suffer. I have deep respect for my Dad.

I hunt and fish too and I respect the animals. I never kill it unless I'm going to eat it and I agree with your old man, trapping is a horrible way for an animal to suffer. A buddy of mine uses dogs to hunt wild hogs here in Florida. I hate it because the dogs tear those hogs apart. I hunt them with my bow and make sure they never suffer. Such quality in these videos.. bowfin are by far my favorite fish to catch, they’re so ruthless. Nice video man
Man, I have been trying to find bowfin like that for a few years now. My buddy who is about to ship wants to catch one, does anyone know of a good spot to try around the southern twin cities?
You can find big bowfins in mid to late summer at Hudson.
Yes the St. croix will produce nasty dogfish good luck bud.
Plenty of places to catch them where nobody likes to fish. That’s why he’s the only one fishin there because those fish eat everything they see and deplete the area of any other fish but it
