Does it matter how strong the alcohol is for laminate? Regular alcohol is 70% alcohol, but I only have 90%. I'm worried that might be too strong and cause damage.

My mom offered to clean for me but she works all day and is always exhausted, she also struggles with her mental health. So I decided to do it myself and this video was really helpful!! I ended up cleaning our entire apartment so she wouldn’t have to clean after work.

Spray it onto floor before mopping. Same ratio for buck of water. 7:22 same solution but skip alcohol. 8:20 laminate flooring:. NO SOAP , but 2 cups of warm water, 1/2 cups each of white vinegar and rubbing alcohol, 5 to 10 drops of essential oil. 9:55 makers mop.
We used to have a cleaning service every two weeks and they would always get down and wipe the floors with a microfiber cloth and a bucket of floor cleaner/hot water. To this day it's what I still do and it's not as hard or tedious as it sounds and the results are so much better. There is something about it a mop just cannot replicate when it comes to getting in corners, and you can get the sideboards while you're at it. I feel like it gets every piece of crumb and dirt better too.

I have to say being in the flooring industry for 26 years just has to be the most educated video I haven't heard in awhile on the proper cleaning of the floors although I'm not 100% in agreeance with the solutions you use I am about 90 to 95% in agreeance with the proper cleaning method so good job I actually gave this video a thumbs up because it's rare that I could find someone who gives proper instruction congratulations great job this one deserves the truth comes up now I see why you have as many followers as your do great job continued success for you my friend

Wow. You go gal. You checked all the boxes here. I've owned a commercial cleaning business for over 35 years. We specialize in floor care. We've cleaned every kind of floor material you can imagine and literally 100's of 1000's of sq ft of flooring. Your description and knowledge of flooring material is spot on. Honestly I'm amazed at the accuracy of your knowledge and procedures for floor cleaning. My only suggestion is forget the vinegar in your custom cleaning solution. It is not needed. Use a good high quality synthetic detergent. 99% of all floor cleaners are alkaline based cleaners. Your vinegar is acid based and will effectively neutralize your cleaning solution which will not be as effective. And as you said, when it comes to the amount of floor cleaning chemical use a very small amount. Good video

I'm 76 years old and you DIY formulas are excellent, with no harsh chemicals and weird perfume smells! I watched this video in the fall of 2022 and used the laminate DIY to maintain my flooring in my condo, Worked so much better than the Shaw Floor Cleaner recommended by the builder! (We were given a mop with microfiber heads, a bottle of Shaw floor cleaner and told NOT to use Bona.) Only used the Shaw about once a month because if I used it every week there was a built up on the floors. This DIY formula was wonderful and I was able to easily maintain my floors. I used it for constant quick cleans when I was selling my condo last year! I moved into smaller, new condo with Luxury Vinyl Plank, that supposedly is a commercial grade product, but it is like peel and stick?! Bona was recommended? I work for a tile and flooring company. To be clear about tile and LVT, they are not actually waterPROOF. They are water resistant. If your tub overflows or a pipe bursts,,you need to clean it up as quickly as possible because moisture can still get underneath them. While the product itself is less likely to be damaged, the grout with tile floors can be damaged and both can get mildew and/or mold can develop under them. Small spills are usually not a problem. It’s also important to seal grout before mopping and please never use toilet bowl cleaner on grout.
Thank you for clarifying that correct they are waterproof as far as not absorbing the water however they do need to be lifted if water gets on her knee that's a lot of people argue with you on but thank you for clarifying that US foreign people in the industry have to clarify that on a regular basis I wish these manufacturers would really stop stating that

Thank you for that I had a flex hose burst under my kitchen sink and was not present for 10 minutes. When I found shut water off and threw towels and got a water vac 😢 my floors were cork and no problem after we got fans and dehumidifiers. When insurance turned up they said thank God for cork
At my hospital, the string mops were replaced with the microfiber flat mops years ago. They stack them in a bucket and add enough water to just get them wet. Separate mops are used for the bathrooms and each room to be discarded into a linen bag. They are laundered to be reused the next day. The serious cleaning of the halls are done with floor scrubbers that are so good now, that wet floors signs are only used as a formality. They used to do the same with the microfibers used to clean the tables, toilets, sinks, and other non floor surfaces, but now use the disposable wipes from a dispenser. For these, we use two types. One chlorine bleach based, the other hydrogen peroxide. Of coarse, institutional cleaning is not the same as home cleaning and you are free to do it yourself on chemicals and procedures. Those disposable wipes are pricey. So I use those for spot cleaning in the bathroom in between my weekly thorough maintenance.

My wife asked me to clean the floor do not use any soap on our luxury vinyl flooring she said so I used water and it didn't get the job done then and I tried this and it works great!! My wife loved it!

@@romymccoy3013 i bought the bissell crosswave pet at Costco (couple years ago) and love it. It vacuums then i can switch to mop setting . There is a dedicated cleaner for "all surfaces" that doesn't leave a residue and is safe for pets. There are other dual cleaners out there but do not have the option to switch from vacuum to mop independently. Thats why i like the bissell

I really enjoy your videos, thank you for them. I did want to say I spent over a year trying to decide which luxury vinyl planks to go with and none of them really passed scratch tests for me. We did go laminate (waterproof up to 72 hours) and frankly we love it. It's German made, has great emissions ratings, and so far it's been pretty bulletproof. It feels really nice under bare feet, doesn't leave foot prints or paw prints like many of the vinyl planks did for us. In fact, at times there have been 7 dogs (including a Saint Bernard) scampering across it and playing on it. The manufacture says you can use a steam mop, but still never would haha. This held up so much better in our at home tests than any vinyl plank. Rather than get hung up on "it's a pile of different layers with a photo of something" understand the different flooring types definitely fit different lifestyles just fine. Unless you have actual hardwood, everything is just a pile of something. Like LVP is literally plastic sheets. :)
I'm a retired an engineer, so I'd go with polished concrete. I love the way you break out the different topics in the notes with times. I can watch what I want or later I can go back and review a specific topic. RUclipsrs that don't go this I don't watch much.
I absolutely love concrete! The stamps they have to make it look like wood is so cool too. When we build our home in a few years (hopefully wood will be cheaper then lol) I want that throughout the house.
I have scraped up old hardwood floors throughout my house except the kitchen. We replaced the kitchen floor about a year ago & put in the Luxury Vinyl. It is very pretty. I have been using Swiffer or generic wet mops. It does tend to get sudsy so I will rinse of some of it before putting on the mophead. It does make cleaning my floor very easy.
I tried your formula for my laminate floors and they look better than they have for years. I was just using a spray bottle with water and it always left streaks, even though the floors were cleaner. Now they shine! Thank you.
Love your videos! This one helped me a lot. I moved into hardwood floor apt in Portugal! Gotta say, I do NOT like them, never have. They are cold, can be squeaky, worry about damage, and I think more difficult to clean. Too each their own but I think carpets make a room feel cozier, add warmth, color (other than a wood brown), and yes...need to be vacuumed, and professionally cleaned every few years - but I will be so happy when I can get carpet back!
Thanks for your video. Sometimes I use an attached plain water bottle with a microfiber cloth on my mop to clean my laminate. Every once in awhile I do steam clean it. I have 3 steam cleaning modes on my Bissell power fresh, which uses less to highest amount of steam and attach microfiber cloths on the mop head. So, I put it on the lowest setting. If you are going to steam clean, the key to do it properly is to never mop over an area constantly or allow it to remain in one spot.
I've used steam cleaner on the lowest setting in my apartment for 5 years. Key is to be quick and not to do it too often. I also quickly mop after with a dry microfiber cloth, just in case. Never have had any problems and the air in the apartment is so much nicer after steam mopping. My bathroom is tiled, so there I can go to town with the steamer 😆
We live on the top floor of our condo and had water damage from a hurricane several years ago. Had to rip up our wood floors 😢 and decided to install luxury vinyl planks…well, love the look but hate the “foot feel”…it ALWAYS feels dirty to me. It has held up well, just not sure I would do it again for that reason…thanks for the cleaning tips!
Since I had lots of time during the COVID shutdown I installed LVP throughout my entire home. I love it especially since I have pets and it has proven to be very durable.
I'm I the process of renovating my living room and dining room. I have mixed feelings about LVP. I feel like it's more convenient since I have a dog but I'm afraid would downgrade my house since it's cheaper floor. What's your take on that? Help!
I have and love my hardwood floors. I have Cumaru and they are really durable. I also have carpet because my husband really likes carpet in family rooms and bedrooms, and we have laminate in bathrooms that are going to go out the door when we remodel those spaces. We use Luxury Vinyl in our rental properties because they are fairly durable but defiantly not scratch resistant like many people think and are told by floor specialists. Thanks for videos that I can recommend to tenants who always ask about cleaning floors. I will recommend your videos.
My new Granny flat is *nearly ready,* and the floor is Lux Vinyl throughout - thank you for the recipe and tips on cleaning it! One of my fav Feng Shui practioners (Amanda Gibby Peters) suggests using a few drops of cinnamon essential oil on the broom, which I love! I'm thinking I may do that for my floor spray - the cinnamon adds a nice energetic clearing.
I recently had huge problem with laminate floors. I had leak under kitchen sink which then seeped up thru floors, warpeing entire floor. I replaced it with luxury vinyl plank. Thanks for advice on cleaning
My dream home would have beautiful hardwood floors like the olden days and I may even have some carpet in the bedrooms because I actually love carpet!! Carpet is excellent for stairs too because it’s much quieter to walk on and not slippery!!
I’m doing Luxury Vinyl. Love it so far. Only use a mildly damp mop on it. Just a little moisture picks ups the dust and lint. Have not had any major spills.

Hello, love your videos. I’m not sure if I have missed it but I would like your best advise to clean tile floors. We have the tile flooring that looks like wood. It’s starting to look ‘dirty’ even after it’s been cleaned. Under the area rug it looks like new. I thought about trying Borax but wasn’t sure what that might do. My grout is grey so it doesn’t look bad. Thanks.
My finished hardwood floor installers told me to never use vinegar on them (and even added the words, 'no matter what anyone tells you'). I use Bona only.
You mean the wood they lay down now? My hardwood floor is 65 years old and REAL wood. Not engineered crap. So, yours would need a different cleaner for the fake stuff.

Thank you for your video - I cleaned my beautiful laminate - cherry look - with wrong cleaner and now cannot get rid of streaks and haze . I made the mistake of googling instead of you tube - to correct - I mopped with vinegar and hot water let set a min - rinsed with clear water - no good - then decided my problem I was still using Ocedar spin mop - rinsed but wet. Ok then I change to spraying zep and a dry microfiber mop head - better but still not where they were - I am just sick - floors are super clean but streaked and hazy ! Will the alcohol and vinegar solution bring back shine ?!😢
My sister and I have been cleaning beauty salons for over 15 years. Presently at age 70 we are just doing one on Sunday mornings. We are bartering...we get our hair cut and colored free every month plus $200.00. We only work for two hours . It is hard work but much easier when two people are doing it. We do not take a break. I have done it by myself and it takes over 4 hours. The owner is lucky because we are flexible depending on what happens to be going on..prom week, holidays, etc. We even take care of their plants. The whole place is laminate wood. We only use water from a swifter. I will use your cleaning formula from now on. Thanks for the short concise video.
I love my Maker’s Mop! I recently started using it instead of the Swiffers I used to use. It’s the best, especially for the walls baseboards and corners!! We had a spill during dinner, and it was the best at soaking it all up!!
We put lvp in our large home before we sold it, glad I wasn’t living long in it, didn’t like the sound when walking on it and it seemed to show everything even though it was light, moved to a home with hardwood, love it, love the way it feels underfoot, just vacuum and mop with a damp mop

Before you use any formulas that this young lady is giving out to please check with the manufacturer all of the floor that's in your home because you do not want to utilize them without checking first although they are seemingly harmless you don't want to do them until you check with the manufacturer most manufacturing companies recommend Bona only the bone or products are phenomenal they have them for each individual product hardwood laminate and vinyl just air on the side of caution when it comes to the actual formula part but the overall instructions were phenomenal that is very impressive that
We went with luxury vinyl. We are in our 80s and the softness of vinyl is better for old knees. It is also easy to clean. Our floors look like wood but aren’t! I would recommend this for anyone with arthritic knees

I’d go with traditional, thick hardwood floors everywhere except laundry room/utility room, mud room/entryway, basement, and bathrooms. Those rooms I’d either do a luxury vinyl plank or a nice tile with underfloor heating in bathrooms. I’ve got major allergies but love my pets, so wall to wall carpet is a serious no-go for me. I’d rather put down some nice area rugs in specific areas and be able to clean the rest of my house with a dust mop.
I prefer hard floors. Hate carpets holds in too much odors and makes my sinuses and allergies worse. I have following you for awhile. Love cleaning and you have given me so many great ideas. Great content as always. Look forward to your next video. Thanks so much!

Last years we replaced all of our floors (the house had 7 different types including the original 1973 linoleum in the laundry room) with luxury vinyl throughout except for the foyer and bathrooms which are tile. FYI, LV is not entirely “scratch resistant” as they claim. Sure you don’t get deep groves like with hardwood, but it does get scratched up. After a year of living with these floors, I’m not sure if my dream floors would be LV, but I am certain they wild NOT be anything with grout! 😜 Well at least not in the bathrooms.

I’m not sure if this will make a difference but there are now laminate waterproof floors. At home depot they advertise that you can use a steam mop on them. But I’m not sure if it is worth the risk
Holy s**t you read my mind, I so agree on the concrete floors and forget about everything else- So simple, nice, and easiest to upkeep. I really don’t think people consider practicality as much as aesthetic when thinking about buying, renovating or making a home!
I must’ve watched more than a dozen videos about how to clean hardwood floors as my 1920 home has hardwood floors throughout. All the advice seems to be very inconsistent and contradictory for example some people say never to use vinegar on your hardwood floors other people say it’s fine, some people say to use a store-bought product like Bona, other people say it will ruin the finish… etc. In any case most people agree that using excess amount of water, or a steam mop is a bad idea. End it definitely is a good idea to dust mop your floors every day. And if you have a rule about not wearing shoes in the house that will also help keep your floors cleaner.
There's a new flooring thats a hybrid out of Germany. Its so hard I put it through the knife test and hammer. Not a scratch. Has 22 patterns so no repeats. Waterproof. Some nice colors. LL sells it. I just had floors replaced and really wanted stained cement but I couldn't trust myself to diy it or find a contractor who didn't lose all the color in their face when I mentioned it. Thank you for another great and helpful video.
I have Pergo from the mid '90s throughout my lower level and running a robovac nightly along with using a vinegar, rubbing alcohol, and water combo has kept it looking decent for the last 20 years I've had the home. I use a 1:1:1 formula, but it's essentially is the same.
Melissa, thank you so much for this video! I have seen so much conflicting information on how to clean my laminate floors. Unfortunately, I found out the hard way that you shouldn't use a steam mop but luckily I only did that on my small dining room which has an area rug over it anyway. It didn't ruin it it just took the sheen a pretty dramatically. I would have never thought about putting rubbing alcohol in a floor solution! Now I know.
Ooooh all I could think of when you said polished cement floors was how awful that would be to slip and fall on and how uncomfortable it is to stand on all day. They are pretty floors though!!

Wow. You go gal. You checked all the boxes here. I've owned a commercial cleaning business for over 35 years. We specialize in floor care. We've cleaned every kind of floor material you can imagine and literally 100's of 1000's of sq ft of flooring. Your description and knowledge of flooring material is spot on. Honestly I'm amazed at the accuracy of your knowledge and procedures for floor cleaning. My only suggestion is forget the vinegar in your custom cleaning solution. It is not needed. Use a good high quality synthetic detergent. 99% of all floor cleaners are alkaline based cleaners. Your vinegar is acid based and will effectively neutralize your cleaning solution which will not be as effective. And as you said, when it comes to the amount of floor cleaning chemical use a very small amount. Good video

I watched this video in the fall of 2022 and used the laminate DIY to maintain my flooring in my condo, Worked so much better than the Shaw Floor Cleaner recommended by the builder! (We were given a mop with microfiber heads, a bottle of Shaw floor cleaner and told NOT to use Bona.) Only used the Shaw about once a month because if I used it every week there was a built up on the floors. This DIY formula was wonderful and I was able to easily maintain my floors. I used it for constant quick cleans when I was selling my condo last year!
I moved into smaller, new condo with Luxury Vinyl Plank, that supposedly is a commercial grade product, but it is like peel and stick?! Bona was recommended? I have used you DIY formula with great results!

I work for a tile and flooring company. To be clear about tile and LVT, they are not actually waterPROOF. They are water resistant. If your tub overflows or a pipe bursts,,you need to clean it up as quickly as possible because moisture can still get underneath them. While the product itself is less likely to be damaged, the grout with tile floors can be damaged and both can get mildew and/or mold can develop under them. Small spills are usually not a problem. It’s also important to seal grout before mopping and please never use toilet bowl cleaner on grout.
Thank you for clarifying that correct they are waterproof as far as not absorbing the water however they do need to be lifted if water gets on her knee that's a lot of people argue with you on but thank you for clarifying that US foreign people in the industry have to clarify that on a regular basis I wish these manufacturers would really stop stating that

I am considering this flooring, mostly because my original plan was tile and my husband does not want to do the work to install tile, he wants to lay this lazy easy plastic stuff.
Thank you for that I had a flex hose burst under my kitchen sink and was not present for 10 minutes. When I found shut water off and threw towels and got a water vac 😢 my floors were cork and no problem after we got fans and dehumidifiers. When insurance turned up they said thank God for cork
At my hospital, the string mops were replaced with the microfiber flat mops years ago. They stack them in a bucket and add enough water to just get them wet. Separate mops are used for the bathrooms and each room to be discarded into a linen bag. They are laundered to be reused the next day. The serious cleaning of the halls are done with floor scrubbers that are so good now, that wet floors signs are only used as a formality.
They used to do the same with the microfibers used to clean the tables, toilets, sinks, and other non floor surfaces, but now use the disposable wipes from a dispenser. For these, we use two types. One chlorine bleach based, the other hydrogen peroxide. Of coarse, institutional cleaning is not the same as home cleaning and you are free to do it yourself on chemicals and procedures. Those disposable wipes are pricey. So I use those for spot cleaning in the bathroom in between my weekly thorough maintenance.

@@romymccoy3013 i bought the bissell crosswave pet at Costco (couple years ago) and love it. It vacuums then i can switch to mop setting . There is a dedicated cleaner for "all surfaces" that doesn't leave a residue and is safe for pets. There are other dual cleaners out there but do not have the option to switch from vacuum to mop independently. Thats why i like the bissell

I really enjoy your videos, thank you for them. I did want to say I spent over a year trying to decide which luxury vinyl planks to go with and none of them really passed scratch tests for me. We did go laminate (waterproof up to 72 hours) and frankly we love it. It's German made, has great emissions ratings, and so far it's been pretty bulletproof. It feels really nice under bare feet, doesn't leave foot prints or paw prints like many of the vinyl planks did for us. In fact, at times there have been 7 dogs (including a Saint Bernard) scampering across it and playing on it. The manufacture says you can use a steam mop, but still never would haha. This held up so much better in our at home tests than any vinyl plank. Rather than get hung up on "it's a pile of different layers with a photo of something" understand the different flooring types definitely fit different lifestyles just fine. Unless you have actual hardwood, everything is just a pile of something. Like LVP is literally plastic sheets. :)

I'm a retired an engineer, so I'd go with polished concrete. I love the way you break out the different topics in the notes with times. I can watch what I want or later I can go back and review a specific topic. RUclipsrs that don't go this I don't watch much.
No kidding. I follow another RUclipsr who put out a two hour cleaning video and I suggested time stamps and got a polite no.
I absolutely love concrete! The stamps they have to make it look like wood is so cool too. When we build our home in a few years (hopefully wood will be cheaper then lol) I want that throughout the house.

They are not waterproof just water-resistant.
We built our dream home with LVP! So easy. I’ve had wood, antique wood and engineered but I love the ease of this stuff!
I have scraped up old hardwood floors throughout my house except the kitchen. We replaced the kitchen floor about a year ago & put in the Luxury Vinyl. It is very pretty. I have been using Swiffer or generic wet mops. It does tend to get sudsy so I will rinse of some of it before putting on the mophead. It does make cleaning my floor very easy.

Love your videos! This one helped me a lot. I moved into hardwood floor apt in Portugal! Gotta say, I do NOT like them, never have. They are cold, can be squeaky, worry about damage, and I think more difficult to clean. Too each their own but I think carpets make a room feel cozier, add warmth, color (other than a wood brown), and yes...need to be vacuumed, and professionally cleaned every few years - but I will be so happy when I can get carpet back!
Thanks for your video. Sometimes I use an attached plain water bottle with a microfiber cloth on my mop to clean my laminate. Every once in awhile I do steam clean it. I have 3 steam cleaning modes on my Bissell power fresh, which uses less to highest amount of steam and attach microfiber cloths on the mop head. So, I put it on the lowest setting. If you are going to steam clean, the key to do it properly is to never mop over an area constantly or allow it to remain in one spot.
I've used steam cleaner on the lowest setting in my apartment for 5 years. Key is to be quick and not to do it too often. I also quickly mop after with a dry microfiber cloth, just in case. Never have had any problems and the air in the apartment is so much nicer after steam mopping. My bathroom is tiled, so there I can go to town with the steamer 😆
We live on the top floor of our condo and had water damage from a hurricane several years ago. Had to rip up our wood floors 😢 and decided to install luxury vinyl planks…well, love the look but hate the “foot feel”…it ALWAYS feels dirty to me. It has held up well, just not sure I would do it again for that reason…thanks for the cleaning tips!
Since I had lots of time during the COVID shutdown I installed LVP throughout my entire home. I love it especially since I have pets and it has proven to be very durable.
I'm I the process of renovating my living room and dining room. I have mixed feelings about LVP. I feel like it's more convenient since I have a dog but I'm afraid would downgrade my house since it's cheaper floor. What's your take on that? Help!
I have and love my hardwood floors. I have Cumaru and they are really durable. I also have carpet because my husband really likes carpet in family rooms and bedrooms, and we have laminate in bathrooms that are going to go out the door when we remodel those spaces. We use Luxury Vinyl in our rental properties because they are fairly durable but defiantly not scratch resistant like many people think and are told by floor specialists. Thanks for videos that I can recommend to tenants who always ask about cleaning floors. I will recommend your videos.

One of my fav Feng Shui practioners (Amanda Gibby Peters) suggests using a few drops of cinnamon essential oil on the broom, which I love!
I'm thinking I may do that for my floor spray - the cinnamon adds a nice energetic clearing.

My dream home would have beautiful hardwood floors like the olden days and I may even have some carpet in the bedrooms because I actually love carpet!! Carpet is excellent for stairs too because it’s much quieter to walk on and not slippery!!

I’m doing Luxury Vinyl. Love it so far. Only use a mildly damp mop on it. Just a little moisture picks ups the dust and lint. Have not had any major spills.

Hello, love your videos. I’m not sure if I have missed it but I would like your best advise to clean tile floors. We have the tile flooring that looks like wood. It’s starting to look ‘dirty’ even after it’s been cleaned. Under the area rug it looks like new. I thought about trying Borax but wasn’t sure what that might do. My grout is grey so it doesn’t look bad. Thanks.

Thank you for your video - I cleaned my beautiful laminate - cherry look - with wrong cleaner and now cannot get rid of streaks and haze . I made the mistake of googling instead of you tube - to correct - I mopped with vinegar and hot water let set a min - rinsed with clear water - no good - then decided my problem I was still using Ocedar spin mop - rinsed but wet. Ok then I change to spraying zep and a dry microfiber mop head - better but still not where they were - I am just sick - floors are super clean but streaked and hazy ! Will the alcohol and vinegar solution bring back shine ?!😢
My sister and I have been cleaning beauty salons for over 15 years. Presently at age 70 we are just doing one on Sunday mornings. We are bartering...we get our hair cut and colored free every month plus $200.00. We only work for two hours . It is hard work but much easier when two people are doing it. We do not take a break. I have done it by myself and it takes over 4 hours. The owner is lucky because we are flexible depending on what happens to be going on..prom week, holidays, etc. We even take care of their plants. The whole place is laminate wood. We only use water from a swifter. I will use your cleaning formula from now on. Thanks for the short concise video.

We put lvp in our large home before we sold it, glad I wasn’t living long in it, didn’t like the sound when walking on it and it seemed to show everything even though it was light, moved to a home with hardwood, love it, love the way it feels underfoot, just vacuum and mop with a damp mop

Before you use any formulas that this young lady is giving out to please check with the manufacturer all of the floor that's in your home because you do not want to utilize them without checking first although they are seemingly harmless you don't want to do them until you check with the manufacturer most manufacturing companies recommend Bona only the bone or products are phenomenal they have them for each individual product hardwood laminate and vinyl just air on the side of caution when it comes to the actual formula part but the overall instructions were phenomenal that is very impressive that
We went with luxury vinyl. We are in our 80s and the softness of vinyl is better for old knees. It is also easy to clean. Our floors look like wood but aren’t! I would recommend this for anyone with arthritic knees

I just put luxury vinyl in my kitchen and bathroom and I love love love love it
I’d go with traditional, thick hardwood floors everywhere except laundry room/utility room, mud room/entryway, basement, and bathrooms. Those rooms I’d either do a luxury vinyl plank or a nice tile with underfloor heating in bathrooms.
I’ve got major allergies but love my pets, so wall to wall carpet is a serious no-go for me. I’d rather put down some nice area rugs in specific areas and be able to clean the rest of my house with a dust mop.
I have hard wood except in the kitchen, pantry and bathrooms, they are ceramic tile. It has helped our allergies so much.

Last years we replaced all of our floors (the house had 7 different types including the original 1973 linoleum in the laundry room) with luxury vinyl throughout except for the foyer and bathrooms which are tile. FYI, LV is not entirely “scratch resistant” as they claim. Sure you don’t get deep groves like with hardwood, but it does get scratched up. After a year of living with these floors, I’m not sure if my dream floors would be LV, but I am certain they wild NOT be anything with grout! 😜 Well at least not in the bathrooms.

I’m not sure if this will make a difference but there are now laminate waterproof floors. At home depot they advertise that you can use a steam mop on them. But I’m not sure if it is worth the risk

I would go terrazzo (sp?) which is like agregate concrete with lots of pebbles and stones which is then beautifully polished.
Holy s**t you read my mind, I so agree on the concrete floors and forget about everything else- So simple, nice, and easiest to upkeep. I really don’t think people consider practicality as much as aesthetic when thinking about buying, renovating or making a home!

We just had our floors redone with hardwood. Previously had tile and carpet. We LOVE our new wood floors!
I must’ve watched more than a dozen videos about how to clean hardwood floors as my 1920 home has hardwood floors throughout. All the advice seems to be very inconsistent and contradictory for example some people say never to use vinegar on your hardwood floors other people say it’s fine, some people say to use a store-bought product like Bona, other people say it will ruin the finish… etc. In any case most people agree that using excess amount of water, or a steam mop is a bad idea. End it definitely is a good idea to dust mop your floors every day. And if you have a rule about not wearing shoes in the house that will also help keep your floors cleaner.
There's a new flooring thats a hybrid out of Germany. Its so hard I put it through the knife test and hammer. Not a scratch. Has 22 patterns so no repeats. Waterproof. Some nice colors. LL sells it. Has good reviews. Question: what is your hardwood color and maker in this video - beautiful. Thank you!

I have Pergo from the mid '90s throughout my lower level and running a robovac nightly along with using a vinegar, rubbing alcohol, and water combo has kept it looking decent for the last 20 years I've had the home. I use a 1:1:1 formula, but it's essentially is the same.

Melissa, thank you so much for this video! I have seen so much conflicting information on how to clean my laminate floors. Unfortunately, I found out the hard way that you shouldn't use a steam mop but luckily I only did that on my small dining room which has an area rug over it anyway. It didn't ruin it it just took the sheen a pretty dramatically. I would have never thought about putting rubbing alcohol in a floor solution! Now I know.
